Conservatives: I am a conservative and I do NOT think that Obama is a sexist. I really don't see anything there to support it.

Let's win this conversation based on truths and facts. Don't become hysterical over any of the lipstick comments. Has the election come down to Jerry-Springer levels?

Increasing regressive taxes, decreasing progressive ones, and promoting property tax cuts that help corporations more than residents. This appears to be spin. The sales tax was enacted in 1992. Before Palin was Mayor. Reducing the "unusually high" corporate taxes more the reducing residents taxes brings the corporate contributoin more in line with the norm. Note that EVERYONE's taxes went down. http://www.city-data.com/states/Alaska-Taxation.html "The most unique feature about Alaska's state taxes is that over half ($552 million in 2002 amounting to 50.6% of total state tax collections) come from severance taxes, a very minor source of revenue in most states" (severance taxes are levied on the extraction of natural resources, read OIL) "Alaska is the only state that has neither a state sales tax nor a state personal income tax. Corporate income taxes make an unusually high contribution, amounting to almost 25% in 2002" (in 2005 the top 10 taxpayers were corporate and paid 27% of the total taxes) and "In all, Alaska has the lowest combined state and local tax burden in the country, 5.5% of income in 2003, compared to the national average of 9.7%." The City of Wasilla property tax rate went from 16.75% on assessed value in 1996 to 15.03% in 2002 and is still falling. It is at 13.7% in 2005. it dropped almost 1 3/4 points during Palin's terms as mayor. The city's portion DROPPED from $469,000 to $324,000. A 30% drop.
"The huge increases in tax revenues during her mayoral administration" and "These are small numbers, but Wasilla is a very small city." Make up your mind. Huge or small. See the percentage info above. I can't find actual numbers prior to 2005.

Zero debt to over $22 million. According top the city from zero to $19.6 million. no details in the report I looked at. Why stretch the truth?

Lawsuit? Borrowing that was unneccessary? I don't have time to research everything. Some is probably true, some is probably conjecture.

Alaska has a budget surplus. So very true. The high price of oil has created a budget surplus in Alaska. Talk about a flat out untruth! Alaska has had a surplus since AT LEAST 1982.Rather than invest this surplus in technology that will make us energy independent and increase efficiency, as Governor sheproposed distribution of this surplus to every individual in the state. Again very true. But then, so has every governor for OVER 20 YEARS. http://www.pfd.state.ak.us/dividendamounts/index.aspx

Increaased revenue by 38%and expenditures by 33%. Anne did not take into consideration population increases yet admits it went up. She does not say what caused the 33% increase. Using the 5460 number she cites and the about 7,000 figure bandied about. This a difference of 1540. 1528 is 28%. Probably within tolerance. According to the City of Wasilla population went up about 25%. From 4,635 in 1996 to 5817 in 2002. Property assesments in 1996 were about $250 million. In 2002 they were about $381 million. GROWTH OF PROPERTY ASSESMENTS WAS OVER 50%!!! 50% of $250 million is $125 million. They added that PLUS another $6 million. Does she say why the city revenue only went up 38%? No. Why didn't revenues go up 50%? Because EVERYONE got a tax reduction. She cites "low inflation". Look at the tables here. http://inflationdata.com/inflation/Inflation_Rate/HistoricalInflation.aspx?dsInflation_currentPage=0 Inflation is like compound interest, unless there is a negative inflation rate. The compound inflation rate for 1996 to 2002 is 18.05%. 50% property value increase, 18% inflation, and 25% population growth. Guess what, it costs more to grow infrastructure than to maintain it. I missed the problem in her math. According to the City of Wasilla's own website, in FY 2005 "The City of Wasilla is located in the fastest growing area of Alaska" http://www.cityofwasilla.com/index.aspx?page=67According to their budget they spent $6.6 million in 1996 and $6.75 million in 2002. Where is the 33% spending increase? Police & public works almost doubled. Investment income increased over 250%. How about the 38% tax increase? Looking at only taxes is misleading. they actually went up more than 38% but that was due to increased sales tax revenue because of increased retail sales. Sales taxes went from $4.2 million to $6.5 million. That's over 50% growth because people spent more money at the store. How is that Palin's fault? Actual total city revenues went up less than 33% Again, from the city budget, revenues went from $7.1 million to $9.33 million. This is just under 33%

Their life has never been like a native Alaskan. I don't know where she was born but she doesn't look like an Eskimo to me. What exactly is Anne referring to? What constitutes native alaskan? Does Anne lead a typical native Alaskan life? I don't know that many stay at home moms. I also cannot name a single governor or higher politician that lives like I do.

The family are avid hunters. My guess is that is more the norm in Alaska than avid non-hunters. Unless you live in Alaska I don't think you can judge her on this one.

She's smart. I call this another positive.

Mayor of a small town and governor of about 670,000 residents for 2 years. Anne neglects to mention that: "The governor is commander-in-chief of the armed forces of the State. He may call out these forces to execute the laws, suppress or prevent insurrection or lawless violence, or repel invasion. The governor, as provided by law, shall appoint all general and flag officers of the armed forces of the State, subject to confirmation by a majority of the members of the legislature in joint session. He shall appoint and commission all other officers." The governor may proclaim martial law when the public safety requires it in case of rebellion or actual or imminent invasion. Martial law shall not continue for longer than twenty days without the approval of a majority of the members of the legislature in joint session. Subject to procedure prescribed by law, the governor may grant pardons, commutations, and reprieves, and may suspend and remit fines and forfeitures. This power shall not extend to impeachment. A parole system shall be provided by law. All executive and administrative offices, departments, and agencies of the state government and their respective functions, powers, and duties shall be allocated by law among and within not more than twenty principal departments, so as to group them as far as practicable according to major purposes. Regulatory, quasi-judicial, and temporary agencies may be established by law and need not be allocated within a principal department. The governor may make changes in the organization of the executive branch or in the assignment of functions among its units which he considers necessary for efficient administration. Where these changes require the force of law, they shall be set forth in executive orders. The legislature shall have sixty days of a regular session, or a full session if of shorter duration, to disapprove these executive orders. Unless disapproved by resolution concurred in by a majority of the members in joint session, these orders become effective at a date thereafter to be designated by the governor. • Posted By: notunderage @ 09/09/2008 7:41:47 PM

Among other obcenities, you invent a new word "libtards" -- now that's just ironic isn't it, given that Gov. Palin's infant son has Down's Syndrome. There are lots of reasons I find Sarah Palin scary, but one of them isn't because she's demeaning to people who have learning disabilities. But maybe you have a learning disability because you can't write a simple sentence without spouting nonsense and obcenities. Sorry about that! I'll see if Barack can find it in his education policy to get special education funding for you.

Ezra, here is a quote from the website (below):
Here is the truth about Mr. Obama's name, and his father's ancestors:

"True Negro tribal members of western Kenya where his father was born have Christian names, not Arabic. His father's decision to name him with an Arabic name is a matter of his father establishing his ethnic identity in Africa - it is done deliberately to separate him from the African tribes. He may live among them, but he is not one of them. His father's message is that he is Arabic, not Negro." As I said before, you should always give thought to "the source" of a quote. You may believe that the quote is nothing but Jewish Lies. I can't help you with that.

    • Posted By: Ezana @ 09/09/2008 7:18:56 PM

I believe the quote is BS period...where "Jewish" is part of this I don't know....

      • Posted By: tinaweha @ 09/09/2008 7:36:35 PM

Jewish part refers to Richard Cohen. Muslims are taught that Jews are ... well, I don't want to get into this.

  • Posted By: tinaweha @ 09/09/2008 6:55:15 PM

Ezana, why does it make a big difference to you if Obama is black or not? Will you change your vote if he is only a small percentage black? You are a terrible racist. Your logic makes me ill. Let me vote for Alan Keyes, I say AGAIN. Race has nothing to do with it. I am saddened that so many of you care one way or another, however... why is Obama hiding from his background? That is the question.

    • Posted By: Ezana @ 09/09/2008 7:03:01 PM

Because like it or not American's are afraid of Muslims since 9/11 and for a lot of people Arab equals terrorist. I am Ethiopian and white mixed (from a long line of Coptic Christians) but I look Arab. So this whole line of bull/race baiting just ticks me off. Also I just don't like liars.

      • Posted By: tinaweha @ 09/09/2008 7:08:28 PM

Good God, I am not afraid of Muslims. I am afraid of Wahabi extremist Muslims. Obama is not Wahabi is he?

I know that. Why does he run from his background?

Don't take it personally, my daughter has curly black hair and Mediterranean skin. She gets flagged when she boards planes. The airplane Nazis even brushed through her hair looking for something... not sure what.

8 years of Republican rule not enough? The defecit not big enough? The republicans are acting as if they have been out of power these last 8 years. They don't want to own their mistakes. If things aren't bad enough for you now... another 4 years of this and I'm afraid to even guess how bad it will be. Of course, it will still somehow be the fault of the dems....

      • Posted By: ben1word @ 09/09/2008 4:23:29 PM

The last eight years have been simply awesome for me since I actully work for a living. The only problem was Clinton left us with a major terror network and lenders lent money to democrats who couldn't pay thier mortgages. I'll take 8 more years of Bush over Obama anytime!

the deficit just hit 408 billion. The highest in the history of this country. You personally may be doing fine, but many many hard working people have lost their jobs and their health care. Think of others besides yourself. Besides, you may not be safe from this disaster forever

          • Posted By: jjnorman727 @ 09/09/2008 7:21:24 PM

The past eight years have been great for me too. Things have only begun to get a little tight since the Democrats took over congress. We choose to live within our means. We could have bought the bigger house, but we didn't. We coiuld have taken the ARM mortgage, but we didn't. It is about making the right choices.

        • Posted By: modanofan @ 09/09/2008 5:45:31 PM

Someone forgot to tell Freddie and Fannie that Dems won't bother paying them back. Don't worry those loans are covered by the government, whoops no one told them that the government gets it's money from us. Dang it, let's make more government because we know how great it will be when we all work for a government an then , whoops there won't be anyone to pay taxes.... nevermind

  • Posted By: Truthyness @ 09/09/2008 6:45:49 PM

    Here's some current facts:
Palin is a grossly huge liar, she said on Sept. 8, 2008 at John Knox Pavillion, about Obama's earmark spending for Illnois,
"???In just three years our opponent has requested nearly 1 billion dollars in earmarks."

The truth is that Obama has request zero dollars for earmarks. She either stupid or a liar, but most like both. In contrast, her state of Alaska, during her term, is on record for asking the most in earmarks.

She's also on record for promoting the "bridge to no where". In the Anchorage Daily News on October 22, 2006, she was asked: Would you continue state funding for the proposed Knik Arm and Gravina Island bridges? Her response was "YES" and "Yes. I would like to see Alaska's infrastructure projects built sooner rather than later. The window is now--while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist."

Palin accepted $223 million dollars for the project that she DID NOT RETURN. She now claims to have said "thanks but no thanks" as stated during her GOP campaign.

Its quite obvious that she is a blatant two faced bitch, liar and manipulator. She is about reform however, and will definitely make Dick Cheny's flaws look like absolute perfection.

I suggest you get your facts straight Sen Obama requested $303,546,475 in earmarks with an additional $78,000,000 for national groups with other senators. If you don't believe it I suggest you visit his Senate site as that's where I found the numbers for this year only.

What I want to know- when will somebody get to the truth about the downs-syndrome baby ? She didn't look pregnant... all of a sudden she's 7 months along and flies 11 hrs after her water broke to give birth.... oh yeah, the daughter was out of school with "mono" the whole time? Do any of you idiots really believe one word of that ? And pleze - don't point me to some photoshopped pregnant body with a Sarah head on it. What I want is a DNA test... and a statement from THE DAUGHTER's doctor saying "yes I delivered the baby". Also... the last I knew the placenta is kept from all live births for some period of time - and tested. I'd like to see those tests as well.

    • Posted By: JenRN62 @ 09/09/2008 6:53:30 PM

Hmmm, let's see, Trig was born in April ... five months ago. Bristol Palin is now five months pregnant. I think it pretty safe to say that she didn't get pregnant again immediately after giving birth no matter how fertile she may be. Oh & btw, when I entered puberty and needed to start seeing an OBGYN for annual checkups, my mom took me to her OBGYN ... we had the same doctor too. If you're going to try to make something up, at least trty to make it realistic.

TO: NBC, MSNBC, CBS, CNN, NYT, CT, WP, Newsweek, Atlantic Weekly, LAT---

WHAT MAKES YOU WORTHY OF TELLING US WHAT YOU THINK?

The Main Stream Media should be ASHAMED AS HELL OF ITSELF; but, we know, it has NO SHAME!!! It NOW thinks it should get involved in the vetting of a VP, while it GAVE A SHAMELESS PASS to OBAMA for the PRESIDENTIAL SLOT.

So you think giving SOFTBALL questions to OBAMA in the debates proves anything. Do you think not tracking down his associations, record, accomplishments or lack thereof proves anything? Do you think that attacking a 17 YEAR OLD GIRL of a candidate AND THE CANDIDATE HERSELF MAKES YOU WORTHY OF TELLING US WHAT YOU THINK?

It proves that the MSM is trying as hard as we have ever seen to CONTROL an election like a Chicago Party Machine, or a government controled, Banana Repubic press.

The MSM press has been disgraceful and there has been and will continue to be a decline of the MSM into tabloid, celebrity, and sexism journalism.

With some MSM outlets like NBC, MSNBC, CBS, CNN, NYT, CT, WP, Newsweek, Atlantic Weekly, LAT, and others becoming tabloids following DailyKos, MoveOn.org, and HuffingtonPost, the vast majority of normal, middle class, independent/moderate WILL BE SICK OF YOU.

    ANSWER THIS QUESTION:

WHAT MAKES YOU WORTHY OF TELLING US WHAT YOU THINK?

      Hi!

I agree with you, but let me give you a friendly tip. The best way to convince people is not by getting in their face or insulting them. You can catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

True, no matter what you do it's not likely you'll be able to convince the MSM. But if you try to persuade, rather than attack, you might be able to convince other people reading your posts.

No offense (remember, I'm on your side).

    • Posted By: Ezana @ 09/09/2008 6:44:20 PM

You're right I think I'll listen to anonymous emails, Rush, The GOP (who has no vested interest in anyone asking Pallin a serious question), and some redneck hiding in a compound. I don't remember any repube-ican bloggers using the word sexism when Clinton was being grilled. I don't thinking you noticed them crawling up Obama's nose either because all you saw was terrorist in the first place or a guy who is smarter than you. I than one who can read a book from beginning to end would rather have a president I can have a beer with.... k!

To JenRN62 - You are misinformed. Separation of Church and State was set up in the First Amendment of the Constitution. It is known as the Establishment Clause and it says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion..." It's followed by the Free Exercise clause which says "or prohibiting the free exercise thereof." Basically, it protects the government from religion and religion from the government.

    • Posted By: JenRN62 @ 09/09/2008 6:44:35 PM

OK - 1) The government was prevented from STARTING a mandated religion (a la the Church of England)so 2) how do things such as prohibiting voluntary prayer in public schools speak to the "prohibiting the free exercise thereof"? Being barred from declaring a religion "the one" does not take religion out of the government.

Hey AlissaSal, there is no separation of church and state of the type you imply in the constitution. That provision was in the constitution to prevent a single branch of religion such as the catholics, baptists or whomever from becoming the mandated religion a la Great Britain. What do you think Thomas Jefferson and the rest of the founders were doing by hiring a chaplain and opening sessions with prayer?? They certainly weren't playing marbles. They firmly believed religion and government mixed just fine; but not as a mandate.

I'm thinking one is a lot more likely than the other. As a matter of fact your theory sounds completely bats**t to me. Think about what country you live in. Now realize how powerful we are! than factor in how that could ever happen at the behest of just one person. Seems pretty idiotic now, doesn't it?

He's not Arab either. Glad to know someone is trying to think though. Kenyan is as black as it comes. He's pure American Mulatto (like what your daughter would have had if she had married the young man you speak of). A huge hunk of black Africa is Muslim. A less strict version than any you would see in the middle east but Muslim nonetheless. Remember Muslim is a religion not a race. There are blond haired blue eyed muslims in the Balkins!

I believe you are mistaken. I will find it online to support this. Why is it a bad thing if he might be part Arab?

It's not a bad thing it's just not true!

Yes, child. I have been to Turkey. They are Muslim, but not Arab. I'm not your typical Republican or Democrat idiot.
