There must be a meltdown on Newsweek's server. Nothing new is posted

      • Posted By: tinaweha @ 09/09/2008 4:44:08 PM

Oh, I think they are only posting things that are NOT controversial. And, by the way, learning the Q'oran is not necessarily a negative. I haven't "studied" it in school but I have read a fair amount of a version in English. I was impressed with many parts of it.

"What if . . ." is bad enough. What made her even think about the possibility of removing some books from the library. What made her think she should decide what the folks at Wasilla should have access to read.

    • Posted By: tinaweha @ 09/09/2008 4:40:52 PM

I don't recall anyone questioning Jimmy Carter's stance on library books. He came from the same background as Palin.

  • Posted By: wolfman6 @ 09/09/2008 1:05:51 PM

Awful strange how Palin has been kept away from the media except when she is with McCain for the last two weeks. That's because they are busy coaching her. They can't let her speak on her own until they've drilled their answers into her and she can spit them back correctly. Another puppet! And please - on July 31st she gave an interview (before anybody knew who she was! and before she was chosen) in which she asked the question "Just what does the vice president do? I have no idea!". Oh yeah, that's a good candidate for the job - one who has no clue what the job is!

Just wait until the truth comes out about the baby! This woman is Bree Hodge with glasses! Next thing, she'll be pimping out her gay son to get something she wants! Good lord, will people ever learn?

    • Posted By: oneamerican @ 09/09/2008 1:32:13 PM

You don't think Obama is being coached? He speaks greatly at gatherings where he gives prepared remarks. ANy interview I have heard with him has many ums and other space fillers before total nonsense escapes from his brain through his mouth.

      • Posted By: wolfman6 @ 09/09/2008 1:50:00 PM

Of course he's being coached. And so is the American public! That's my point. Read my other posts. Americans will believe anything that is spoon fed to them because we have been brainwashed into being a fast food, right now society. No one thinks about the long term effects of their decisions. I'm not saying either side is right - Obama has issues, too. The truth is I do not trust a single politician in this country. Not a frakking one! Politicians are not doing what is best for the country or their constituents. They are doing what's best for their bank accounts and their power to control. Nothing else. I have grown to hate this country and it's stupidity so much over the last 8 years that I am seriously considering moving to Canada, Australia or the UK. Those people have more sense than Americans do. What happened to moving into the 21st Century? This should be the age of enlightenment and education. All we've done in the last 20 years is to go 80 to 100 years backwards. The US is going to be left behind if we don't grow up. We're all a bunch of children waiting to be spoon fed the latest drivel. Americans are stupider now than ever. Educate yourselves before making decisions! I don't care who you chose as long as you've done it with all the facts. The problem is that we are not getting the facts, but the media is making us believe that we are. And we are stupid enough to believe it and make decisions by it. Truth is, I have no idea what McCain really stands for - he hasn't said. All he does is put down Obama. Obama, puts down McCain - what's the truth? What are they really going to do? I don't know - does anybody??????

Coached? Obama is jaw-droppingly stupid, and incapable of being coached. He is a puppet, with his strings being pulled by the radical American left.

  • Posted By: Bounder @ 09/09/2008 1:03:17 PM

The books on the list didn't have to be in print at the time. They just had to be on the library's shelf.

    • Posted By: JenRN62 @ 09/09/2008 4:36:55 PM

It's not just that they were out of print - they hadn't been WRITTEN yet. The list is bogus.

  • Posted By: tinaweha @ 09/09/2008 4:34:36 PM

Palin comes from the same religious background as Nobel-prize-dufus Jimmy Carter. Obama studied the Q'oran in school. Am I missing something?

  • Posted By: adams54newsweek @ 09/09/2008 4:31:51 PM

AHHH . . . getting to the truth or, at minimum, if you're going to report on one side then you better report the facts about the other side.
All of this crap about Palin's support / non-support of the 'Bridge to Nowhere' . . .
Has the press offered up the fact that BOTH Obama and Biden voted FOR the bridge?
The press and news outlets are ALL biased - - does anyone not know that?

Check out the 6 minute mark of this video from a meeting of the Alaska Independence party, where the chair CLEARLY states that Ms. Palin was a member of the party until she became Mayor of Wasilla, then YOU tell ME she wasn't a member. LInk: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_NK2sFJebGc

Hmmmmm.....I wonder how the McCain likes to have lies emailed around the country about his running mate, just like the many, many emailed lies that are emailed around the country about his opponent, Obama. Maybe the news media will pick up the emailed lies, as they did about Obama, and talk about them SO OFTEN on the news that anybody who wants to can believe them. An even playing field in this election demands that a multitude of lies be spread about McCain and Palin just like a multitude of lies have been spread about Obama. It is just too bad that we didn't have over a year to hear the many lies about Palin as we have about Obama. It is hard to feel pity for Palin or McCain since they are helping to spread negative lies about Obama and positive lies about themselves.

    • Posted By: tinaweha @ 09/09/2008 4:26:35 PM

Do you mean the lies about Obama learning the Q'oran in school?

  • Posted By: Devvie1961 @ 09/09/2008 11:46:19 AM

Have you seen the Salon article that calls her a dominatrix? How sick is that? As a democrat and woman I'm disgusted. I'm also disappointed in emails from the Obama camp. I signed up to receive them and after Mrs Palin gave her speech they out and out misled what she said. Obama is losing his mojo some say. I'm not sure if it is arrogance on his part or his top advisors, but it's turned me off. I'm not all of a sudden going to become a right wing Republican, but I just might support McCain/Palin as they are more moderate than what I am seeing from Obama/Biden. I don't even recognize them anymore.

    • Posted By: sendyoume101 @ 09/09/2008 12:12:30 PM

Sorry to say that you were never a true Democrat from the jump... They have lie totally about Sen. Obama. Now they think that someone like Gov. Palin can unite the GOP. Get Real. There are a lot of woman out there that are doing just what she is doing each and everyday... They might not be a Gov. of Alaska, but nevertheless they are doing what any Mother would do and is doing... So don't get is mixed up... The GOP put her there for ONLY one reason and that reason is to get the 18 millions cracks that Sen. Clinton had. Let's be real abou this... She talks about getting the 45 and younger vote what about all women's votes. Tell me this how many Minority Women has Palin talked too.. Please take a look.. This country is not just made-up of the GOP, but if you looked at the convention you would have thought it was. At less with Sen. Obama, he knows what it is to be Black/White... Please take off the rose color glasses and really really look at this election... It's really isn't about the issues that 99% of people are concerned about, It's really about Race. Can you trust America in the Hands of a Black Man.

      • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/09/2008 12:16:27 PM

It's always about race with Obama supporters.

        • Posted By: vinman @ 09/09/2008 4:26:34 PM

Don't forget that one of their heroes, Robert Byrd, was part of a group of senators that tried to block the Civil Rights Act of 1964.

      • Posted By: oneamerican @ 09/09/2008 12:35:10 PM

Obama is balck when it is to his advantage. His comment that he is not like all the other presidents is obviously racist. In cannot be take otherwise. He has more money than most of them ever had. He has a better education than most of them ever had. How is he worse off than any other president?

      • Posted By: James X @ 09/09/2008 12:33:05 PM

"A true Democrat"??? You mean as one who celebrates FDR....who put Japanese-Americans in, how do YOU call it?....."Internment Camps"? Or perhaps you mean those Lions of the Civil Rights Struggle: "Bull" Conner, and George Wallace? You forgot about the fire hoses, the beatings, and the attacking dogs....the Jim Crow Laws.... Are you a self-loathing black woman?

    • Posted By: sosad @ 09/09/2008 12:08:26 PM

You are not a Obama supporter. the lies spoken at the Republican convention were undeniable! If you ever supported Obama there is no way you would support McCain there views are totally different so stop the games. Let's vote Jessica Lynch as VP she has more scars than McCain and her POW status is much more recent than his!!! So Sad!! Look past his color and look at what he stands for "The American People"

      • Posted By: oneamerican @ 09/09/2008 12:37:40 PM

It's too bad he doesn't look past his own color, continuously using the race card. He has risen further politically than any other black man in American history and he still whines, saying he is not the same as any other president. Obama stands for Obama and nothing more.

    • Posted By: nailbunny @ 09/09/2008 12:12:00 PM

I don't believe for a single second that you are a Democrat and a woman, Devvie1961. Democrats don't vote on 'mojo', they vote on issues. Also, a woman Democrat would never vote for anyone who is anti-choice, especially since Palin opposes abortion even the case of rape and incest. You are not fooling anyone.

      • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/09/2008 12:14:47 PM

A woman democrat would vote for someone who is pro-life, as long as she isn't trying to ram her choice down other people's throats.

Yes, Palin is pro-life, even in the case of rape, and opposes same-sex marriage and favors the discussion of creationism alongside evolution in schools. But she hasn't pushed for legislative changes in any of those areas.

The Associated Press reported Sept 3: "Palin's children attend public schools and Palin has made no push to have creationism taught in them. ... It reflects a hands-off attitude toward mixing government and religion by most Alaskans."

She even vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships because she said it was unconstitutional.

That says plenty. It shows she knows the limits of government, and believes that government isn't there to tell us what to do.

Obama seems more inclined to use government to control what choices we have than Palin does.

  • Posted By: tinaweha @ 09/09/2008 4:24:58 PM

I'm responding to Yes who says, "Sounds to me like Sara Palin is George Bush with Lipstick!! " Actually sweetie, Sarah Palin is more like Obama with lipstick". The difference is: Palin has been a Christian (maybe a whacky one) her whole life, and Palin has never learned the Q'oran in school.

  • Posted By: GeorgeFedoris @ 09/09/2008 11:54:53 AM

No amount of nitpicking will change the fact that McCain is reckless & warmongering & that Palin is a right-wing fundamentalist of the most extreme kind. Plus shamelessly pimping out her pregnant daughter & disabled son for sympathy & attention. Any Democrat that would consider voting for them is appallingly willing to support the overturn of Roe v. Wade, continuation of illegal spying on US citizens, and many other Constitutional violations. Like separation of Church and State, for example. Shame on you for considering it!

    • Posted By: JenRN62 @ 09/09/2008 4:24:38 PM

Separation of Church and State is not in the Constitution. It was discussed in letters between the founding fathers.

    • Posted By: oneamerican @ 09/09/2008 2:42:23 PM

what about the constitutional violating of taking away my right to bear arms. That is the most important. Without that Barrack can do whatever he wants and I can't defend myself

    • Posted By: Hollywood_limousine_liberals @ 09/09/2008 12:52:35 PM

Roe v Wade - will never be overturned - it may be given back to the state level at worst (or best) ... why to you LIBS think that everone is SO concerned about abortion rights?!?!? It's a 3rd tier item at best - it that the standard trump card?... well what about women's rights for an abortion - LIBS: it's OK to KILL a fetus but God forbid killing a terrorist or animal

So You Are Suggesting Everyone But Palin is Lying?

Palin gave signed letters to Emmons and Stambaugh on January 30, 1997, that stated: "I do not feel I have your full support in my efforts to govern the city of Wasilla. Therefore I intend to terminate your employment..."[26] Palin rescinded the firing of Emmons the next day after meeting with her and after what the Anchorage Daily News called "a wave of public support for Emmons."[25] Palin stated that her concerns had been alleviated when Emmons agreed to support Palin's plan to merge the town's library and museum operations.[26] Palin also spoke with Stambaugh at least three times about the matter, but ultimately he was fired as planned. Stambaugh filed a lawsuit which was later dismissed by a court that found the mayor had the right to fire city employees for nearly any reason, including a political one.[27]

    • Posted By: JenRN62 @ 09/09/2008 4:22:46 PM

You see it when a merger happens too - the new boss just doesn't get along with some people - and the boss isn't the one who goes, the disgruntled employee does. We've seen what happened when the Bush administration didn't purge the Clinton supporters from his administration. I own a business and I want people in my company to support me and my policies.

    • Posted By: oneamerican @ 09/09/2008 12:40:18 PM

This shows me great courage on Palin's part to stand up for her principles, yet admit she made mistakes Even your attacks show her outstanding character. I have never heard Obama say is even remotely close to wrong on anything.

  • Posted By: Yes! We ALL Can @ 09/08/2008 8:53:52 PM

Newsweek - It's so nice that you did this same type of story for Barack Obama when he was being smeared!!! Nice that you are in the pocket of corporate interests!

Are you going to do a piece on where she stands on her EXTREME issues and policies - how she views the world, or are you going to cover that up too with the help of the McCain Campaign?!!!

Palin went to 6 colleges, yes SIX count them colleges before she received her BA degree. She doesn't even know what a VP does. She has NO internationl experience.

She wants to cut taxes - but only for the 5% rich of this country.

Yes, American she is LYING to you so you can vote for her and then do exactly what bush did: forget about you!

The republiCONs only care about the top 5% - and meanwhile, THEY MUST THINK YOU ARE STUPID if you vote for them because they will do nothing for you.

And that "bridge to nowhere". Here ads says she opposed them. She LIED to Americans, and anyone who votes for her and McCrazyCain is pretty much STUPID.

Stop the dumbing of America, and start fighting back against the republicon LIES that McCain and Palin put out.

    • Posted By: Crestlinecbs @ 09/09/2008 4:21:46 PM

You sound like a child having a temper-tantrum. Everyone who disagrees with your point of view is stupid? Lying? Dangerous? Really, are you now going to hold your breath until you turn blue? Honestly...

  • Posted By: mugsy5 @ 09/09/2008 3:47:04 PM

Democrats don't get it. They have no substance so they have to spread lies to create doubt. What they don't understand is the American people aren't stupid. THESE ARE NOT MY PARENTS DEMOCRATS, these are far left scumbags....

    • Posted By: Huberc @ 09/09/2008 4:21:05 PM

My mom was an old time republican. what that used to mean was they believed that government should stay out of individuals' personal lives, should remain small and not meddle with other countries. It was a sort of mildly isolationist philosophy. This is now more of a Libertarian belief. My mom switched to Dem when the Neo cons took over her party and the whole abortion issue became a mantra. She believed the government had no right to tell women what to do with their bodies or anything else. The Dems have moved too - we aren't as big into welfare as we are into keeping good paying jobs here. Also, most Dems really don't care about people having guns - as long as they aren't felons and they aren't buying a machine gun.

    • Posted By: FightForFreedom @ 09/09/2008 3:58:48 PM

republicans don't get it. they think their party is still representative of small government, and the blindly believe the lies told to them through smiling mouths. What the current republicans realize is that the populous IS stupid and can be controlled with very little effort. THESE ARE NOT YOUR PARENTS REPUBLICANS, these are dictators in disguise...

The real truths about Palin will come out in time. There's no way she can learn what she needs to know for this position in 2 months. McCain has been bad news from the start, he just says what he has to for a vote. His judgement shows he has never put this country first...only himself. I don't believe Palin should run for VP if she can't take the press and pressure like all the other candidates had to do. Hiding from the press just confirms to me she should not be VP and is incapable of handing the job. I had a great fear of John McCain answering the phone one night one of his rages; I'm even more frightened at Palin answering it. Too much is a risk right now for Americans to vote for an absolute joke and bunch of lies. I am an elderly Repulican woman in Florida and will definitely be voting for Obama and Biden.

    • Posted By: Crestlinecbs @ 09/09/2008 4:20:13 PM

Anyone can say they are a Republican, that doesn't make it true. Unless you are a liberal. Then "feeling" it or "wanting" it is the same to them as doing something.

The more Palin is attacked, the more independents move to Palin. The Obama bloggers are damaging the party. Palin is viewed as middle America. The election will be determined by swing voters in swing states. The Dems should focus on policy issues with McCain and back off Palin.
