Face it - Americans are idiots, plain and simple. No one looks into facts, just listens to the garbage on the local news. The media is out to create stories, not report the facts on the stories. All they do is try to stir up trouble. And the worst part is people believe it. ALL news has become "The National Enquirer" - CNN, FOX, MSNBC, Newsweek, Time, and on and on. And what really kills me is the number of "White Women" (I'm white, so I'm not trying to be biased - but this is True!) that are for Palin just because she's a woman! They don't know anything about this woman, yet they are for her just because she's running. Just because it's a woman does not mean that she stands for what you believe in. Just because Obama is black (or half at least) does not mean he stands for what blacks believe in. Just because McCain is white does not mean he stands for what White's believe. Wise up and check facts before you make a decision people! Government is a game and that's what they are all playing. Their research showed that women would vote Republican if a woman was on the ticket, good or bad, and they are right. You are all statistics and they know how to play you. The government is a puppet master and we are all the puppets. And they know exactly what strings to pull and when. There's suddenly stories about terrorist fears again - guess what, it's election time! Of course there are going to be stories like that to stir people up to vote Republican. Yes, the Republicans will save us from terrorists. BS! The Republicans created 9/11 to justify the war in Iraq - which is not even where the terrorists came from! America is stupid and gullible. Grow up and get educated before you make your decision for this election. And remember - we are not voting for a short term fix - think about the future and the future of your children before you make your choice. Quit thinking just about yourselves. The are over 200 million people in this country affected by your choices. And to a higher degree, so is the rest of the world. You are just a spec of dirt in the scheme of things, but your collective decisions make a difference on the future. Don't make that decision blindly or out of emotion. Check the facts. Vote for what is the right thing to do for everyone, not just yourself.

You don't sound factual, unbiased or informed. You sound opinionated, narrow and scared.

      • Posted By: wolfman6 @ 09/09/2008 2:11:55 PM

Opinionated - maybe. Factual, definitely. Narrow, hardly. I am very open minded. But scared - yes - by stupid people who don't check facts before making a decision. That's probably 95% of this country. Check the facts. That's been published too!

"The Republicans created 9/11 to justify the war in Iraq - which is not even where the terrorists came from! America is stupid and gullible. " Reverend Wright - you forgot to take your meds again...

It never ceases to amaze me how many people are so blinded by emotion and contempt for something they know little to nothing about. The argument that 8 years of republican rule has done our nation harm can be said the same for the 8 years of clintonian rule, which set the stage and opened the door for the tragedies of Sep. 11. As far as Sarah Palin is concerned, she has just as much right to run on the ticket as the next person. Furthermore, many Obama supporters have no problem picking up the pieces of gossip and using them to fuel the fire of contempt they have for their opposing political party. But heaven forbid anyone say anything negative about their candidate, for fear of being labeled intolerant, racist, or ignorant. Face it folks, there are opposing sides and views that among some, will never be reconciled. So stick to the issues, the candidates positions and most importantly, their legislative and executive experience and history. Then vote your mind, and quit using pathetic, manipulative methods to change the minds of others, as if we were ignorant sheep that would follow the voice of anyone willing to cry out.

There is more and has been for a while of lies and misleading facts about Obama, but I guess is ok. When Newsweek fact's check everyone fairly, then maybe I will take them seriously. You are the ignorant sheep for falling for this crap.

99% of what you are talking about was brought up by Hillary Clinton and her democratic Clinton Machine, so go jump on the democrats, not the Republicans

  • Posted By: axlenut @ 09/09/2008 12:14:48 PM

Sarah Palin is exactly the person I want in the job, right alongside McCain. I know enough about her to see she is the ideal American woman, just as my mother was. She worked from the shipyard to industry, was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, raised children, knew how to shoot, clean and butcher game and persevere. Palin is not a self-serving black racist socialist like Obama, good enough for me.

    • Posted By: TJ21 @ 09/09/2008 12:35:12 PM

A black racist socialist? Really? Can you explain that? Is he racist against his white mother or his black father? Please clarify

      • Posted By: oneamerican @ 09/09/2008 2:07:44 PM

He is racist against black or white, whichever happens to benefit him at that moment.

Within 10 day, Alaska Governor Palin has the entire Obama media cartel jumping off a cliff thinking they can fly :)

Obama himself is hanging on the ropes and the only thing he thinks will help him is more hateful smears from that same stooge cartel :)

Is Sarah Palin qualified to be president?
Judging by her brilliant handling of Obama and company, I'd bet my money on Sarah when she faces off against Putin-tang and company

    • Posted By: Jurr @ 09/09/2008 12:34:37 PM

Her brilliant handling? She a few speeches that someone else wrote. 10 years as mayor/city council, wow that's something if you are talking about a real city, not just a few igloos pushed together.

San Antonio Texas has roughly twice the population of the entire State of Alaska.

      • Posted By: oneamerican @ 09/09/2008 2:05:49 PM

I don't see Obama and many millions of democrats running scared from San Antonio, but I do see them running and ruthlessly and vindictively attacking Governor Palin.

  • Posted By: Daniel Shaw @ 09/09/2008 1:34:23 PM

say, why don't we fact check the adultery charge against the Rev. Wright ? Oh yeah, I forgot, Newsweek is on the job to get Obama in the White House. How silly of me.

    • Posted By: RightStuff @ 09/09/2008 2:04:51 PM

Yup, I think it would be nice to hear about the good Rev. Wright and this alleged affair. Wright is truly a maggot.

All news stories quoted from the past verify firing librarian verify you calls slime.. See also Sitka Sentinel 2/11/97. Memory is not as good as black and white. Only community action caused the women's retention. Palin may have been at the 94 convention as that was during the time her friend Wally Hickel rented the AIP to become Governor, but returned to his republican digs once he became held that office.. Your Buchanon story is correct.. What about her cutsey lie about the bridge to nowhere. What about claim of 80% positive rating, see Faribanks News Miner 8/3/08 64%.

    • Posted By: oneamerican @ 09/09/2008 2:04:03 PM

64% is still better than the 9% approval of the democratic congress which includes Joe Biden and Barrack Obama and John McCain, so mathematically, an approval rating average of approximately 37% for the McCain /Palin team is better than 9% for Obama/Biden. I would venture that the numbers have also dipped (due to some vengeful and running-scared democrats) to make her look bad

I find it very interesting that Newsweek has delved as deeply into fact-checking the rumors swirling around Palin. As a long-time subscriber of Newsweek, I don't ever recall seeing an article delve as deeply into fact-checking rumors(lies) regarding Barack Obama. Many of the lies that continue to plague Senator Obama could have been put to rest. So much for "fair and balanced". The media fear of appearing sexist is deplorable. Why is the media trying to make Palin into something she is not.? Where is the outcry of a lack of experience that everyone seemed to believe was so important for Barach Obama to have? Why isn't Newsweek spending as much time examining her experience as it did examining Senator Obama's experience? Shame on Newsweek.

    • Posted By: stematwork @ 09/09/2008 2:02:16 PM

And Shame on you for not reading all of Newsweeks articles dedicated to obama's religion, rise to power and dubious connections. They've defended and fact checked him from day one. Is this your first time here or what?

  • Posted By: Lovemycountry @ 09/09/2008 1:22:54 PM

THis is a very one sided article. What about the rumors that are true? Where is that information? And maybe if she had been vetted properly, most of this would not have become 'rumor'.

    • Posted By: retz @ 09/09/2008 2:00:53 PM

Vetted or not the rumors would still fly on the internet. Obamas supporters are spinning his life and accomplishments while spreading lies about the other side and McCain supporters are doing the same. My favorite recurring spins are raised by a single mother and poor community organiser struggling to pay off large student loans. My heart might bleed if his mother hadn't remarried after two years or if she hadn't taken off again after she secured her degree leaving aged parents to raise him. The struggling to pay debts would be more believable if he hadn't spent 2 weeks in Europe, 5 weeks in Kenya and 3 months in Bali during this time. Spin is spin everybody has there version but calling facts spin is ignorant.

    • Posted By: Thea @ 09/09/2008 1:26:14 PM

She hasn't been vetted properly but that's coming. Wait until October, things will be very different.

      • Posted By: stematwork @ 09/09/2008 1:34:34 PM

she hasn't been "vetted" properly? obama was NEVER vetted by the media untill right wing talk forced a second look in his church. other than that, it's been a giant love fest. FactCheck is pretty unbiased. They've spent considerable time unravelling all the stupid stuff about obama being muslim, obama's faked birth certificate and michelle's supposed "whitey" tape. they blow the whistle on both sides.

        • Posted By: TJ21 @ 09/09/2008 1:45:42 PM

Obama was voted into the position he is in. He ran a campaign against the most recognized Democratic name in the Clintons. Running that campaign is part of the vetting process. Sarah Palin was chosen by McCain last minute to appease the base and try and go after women voters. McCain isn't picking her if she's not a her. The Media has just started questioning her and the same people that went after Obama for petty things is getting mad at the media for doing the same thing to Palin.

      • Posted By: gig'em99 @ 09/09/2008 1:33:35 PM

Admit it...most of ya'll never used, or even heard the word "vetted" before Palin's pick. ;-)

  • Posted By: savanna26 @ 09/09/2008 11:18:25 AM

TO MY FRIENDS THAT SUPPORT OBAMA:
Please stop the seemingly endless barrage of attacks on Sarah Palin. We are only energizing the opposition and not helping our own cause. Let the media dig up the dirt on her, which they will inevitably continue to find, for the world to see her for what she is. Barrack is staying positive. Follow his lead. Stay focused on the real issues and the significant differences on the issues. That is where our advantage lies. That is where the truth is. After the last election, we all said NEVER AGAIN. For the same reasons, it is happening again. GOP brought on Palin as a distraction and the Rovean tactics are working again. Don't fall for it, please! We will never convince the other side to think like we do. All we're doing with the petty comments is firing up people that normally wouldn't be fired up to vote in spite of you. It's a mistake. If it happens again, shame on US.

    Respectfully,
    OBAMA/BIDEN08

Obama is spending his whole campaign trying to criticize palin. What is so positive about that? The bias media is digging up dirt, fed by the funds of the Obama team. How is that positive? It is only a matter of time before America sees Obama for the fraud he is. Hopefully, it is before November 4.

      • Posted By: cbat @ 09/09/2008 1:10:56 PM

Thank you! At the end of the day, no one needs to invent or exaggerate anything. 8 years of Repbulican rule in Washington and all it has wrought is all you need to prove that they need to be kicked out. Anyone who thinks that Palin has foreign policy experience because she lived in Alaska which is next to Russia, would vote for her no matter what. No need to argue that that is stupid. Publish her views as they are, that is scary enough.

I am begging you Libs to keep insulting Gov. Palin and her family. Please, please do not stop. Isn't it about time you start calling the independents and white women who now give McCain a majority in the polls RACISTS? You have already insulted the senior vote by calling McCain senile. You have already insulted parents with special needs children by calling Gov. Palin's baby a "sympathy baby." Please keep showing your true colors. It is great!!!

No body complains about proper vetting, but the personal attacks on children and babies is disturbing. Why are you Dems so angry? I am having a great time.!! I am just asking that you "continue" the personal attacks and name calling. I do wonder how these rantings are working for you. Why do you take offense to the title Lib or Liberal. Is it something to be ashamed of. If you consider this an insult I am sorry. Who have I smeared? What lies have I told. Have any of you Barrak Obama enthusiasts taken the time to research his actual record of "accomplishments?" Are you at all familiar with his personal beliefs and ideology? Or, because of your excitement about a black, liberal, candidate, did you simply take him at face value? Reality check: he does not write his own speeches. From it, even democrats, know little about him, except it that for 20 years, he "didn't know" that his Reverend was an America hating racist, or that he didn't care that the Weather Underground actually killed people! For a major black candidate, I thought it was a vacuous speech, with a lot of worthless platitudes. I have since learned, it also was not very factual.

The thing I find the most troubling about the selection of Barrak Obama as U.S. President, is that he is NOT the most qualified Democratic Party man for the job. Which made me wonder, why did the Dems pick him? (Aside from their obvious fascination with his hard leftist ideology, and his race,.) He has said Biden is his "soul-mate." Which means that he thinks he is a so-called "maverick," like him. But, it appears that Obama may be in for a shock, as only recently has he come to know about the Weather Underground, and his "mentor" the Reverend Write.

"My friends," please do some research of your own. While Obama may seem appealing to you now, you too may be in for a shock when you find out more about him.

Regardless of how you feel about Gloria Steinem, PLEASE, at least, be fully informed about Barrak Obama before you vote.

    • Posted By: TexasDoc @ 09/09/2008 1:54:35 PM

You are hardly informed about Barack Obama. You can't even spell his name correctly.

First, about Rev. Wright. He served his community for over 30 years, helping people who had absolutely nothing. Don't judge him for a few brash criticizims of our failed executive branch. I don't agree with all his statements, but I won't disrespect his service.

Second, Barack has done far more than Palin or McCain for the lower income of our country. Yes, he was a community organizer. If you don't know what that is, look it up before you judge it. And as someone stated above, "Jesus was a community organizer." There is nothing greater than giving up wealth and riches to help those in need. Your one day of "Meals on Wheels" or dropping money in the Salvation Army tin at Xmas doesn't entitle you as "giving back to the community."

Third, McCain is not a maverick. Find something in the last 4 years on which McCain completely disagreed with Bush and still disagrees (he's flopped a few times). He has nothing to run on but his war record, and frankly, as a member of the USAF, I feel prostituted every time he brings it up as an issue.

Republicans have lied endlessly and thrown false accusations at the democrats throughout this campaign. First they pulled the "sexism" card out against Obama during the primaries while they fake supported Hillary. Then they 'played the race card' card against Obama before Barack had even thought racism, (Read that sentence carefully so you understand what I'm talking about). They faked outrage by claiming Barack was shouting racism when he hadn't yet and wasn't going to do so. Then they cried "agism" when someone stated McCain "lost his bearings." (Which I believe he lost long before he got old). Now they are back to the "sexism" fight. The republicans are taking all these progressive words of equality, fought for by the greatest community organizers of our history, and using them against those who continue to fight for equality. What a hippocracy the republican party is.

Oh, and reality check. McCain doesn't write his own speeches either. He tried early on, but the ink from the quill kept screwing up the scanners. Carl Rove's ghoulie offspring write them. Besides, the guy can't even use a computer. 3yr olds can use a computer. The republican nominee for Leader of the Free World is not just McSame, he's McStupid.

James, your candidate has been in the senate for 26 years and only now can he save the country! The same can be said about Sarah Palin! let the media interview her and let continue to examine her as a leader and "American" instead her hiding her behind Mr McCain. Is she still learing all the information about government and global issues that she hasn't a clue on. She's going to sound like a rehearsed child in a play when you do let her out!!!

        • Posted By: James X @ 09/09/2008 1:21:24 PM

Nobody can "save the country". It will take a collective effort by the basically apathetic American populace! I have nothing against the candidates being interviewed. My gripe is with both Congress and the White House being under "same party" control!

I really don't care of what the media say about both Palin and Obama (bad or good). I concern about the real policies. I don't want out country to become: a big "baby-sitting" country. I am the "middle class" group described by Mr. Obama, and to be honest, who doesn't want more money in our pocket? However, I am scared about Obama's economic policy. "When thing is too good to be true, it is too good to be true". Don't be fooled by this reallocation of wealth policy. it may sound good to many people now, but it can only hurt our country at the end.

I am a Democrat living in Alaska and I am so tired of all the untruths surrounding Sarah Palin. No, I do not agree with all her personal beliefs, however she does not force them onto us. She listens to what the people want and then 85% of the time delivers it. She has been the best leader our state has had in over 30 years. I am a minority woman & my vote was for Obama until Sartah was added to the GOP ticket. She will bring reform. She does not put up with corruption from either party. I would rather see the change she can actually bring to government, the long term change, than to sit by & hope that change is on the way.
I know many of you out there will say I am a traitor. The way I see it I would rather cast my vote for the long term good of the country, not for what is good for my party, not for what looks good for the next 8 years.
By the way on the whole "troopergate" investigation, if any regular citizen tazered their child, drinks & drives
( in the patrol car no less), or harrassed &/or threatened the Govenor of their staste they would be put in jail for a very long time and lose their children.Instead Wooten was given a 10 day suspension which was later slashed to 5 days. How about that for justice and upholding the law? Please people, know the facts before you cast judgement.

On the intenet there are a lot of pictures showing Palin in a two peice swimsuite holding a BB/palet gun at a swimming pool. But what I find distrubing is the fact in the background are teenage boys smoking and drinking what looks like MILLER Beer and smoking. Also in this picture you see another teenage boy sitting with his feet over the edge with a BB/Palet Gun.

I like to ask what does this say to our kids that it is alright to mix guns and drink.

Also I like to make a comment to Palin as to Obama being a community orangizer what does she think Jesus Christ was? Jesus was one of the BIGGEST community orangizer in history. It was community orangizer that started the US Revoluation, the Civial War to free the slaveies.

But still I like to ask the RNC what makes her knowledgeable to run this country when it took 6 years (attending 5 colleges) to obtain a BS Degree in Journalism, and does having only a BS degree in Journalism

Please, Please, Please tell us that you didn't believe that photo was real. I hope that you do not plan to vote, because you just leaving your house may infect us with whatever idiot germs you are carrying? Although, I must admit the picture of Obama I saw holding the White House in one hand and Iran in the other looked pretty real too! I didn't realize Iran was only about 3" by 5". How can they cause so much trouble?

That photo is not real ... ever hear of Photoshop? As great as the internet is as a source of information, not everything is real or true.

The most disturbing part of this article for me is that she asked all of her department heads to resign to "test their loyalty". This is no Maverick choice. This is mainstream Republican politics - personal loyalty above party, party loyalty above country, and country loyalty above reason. No brains, just chains.

Sounds like what the Obama supporters were telling the HRC supporters when he didn't pick her to be his VP -- you need to support the party anyway, loyalty to the party above all else, including what you know about Obama and the DNC and the way they mistreated HRC.

This line of argument won't work. Palin challenged her own party bosses, risking her political career. She and McCain represent fiscal responsibility, exactly what this country needs when the bill from our overseas creditors comes due.

Obama, on the other hand, has no problem spending a million dollars a day of the taxpayer's money on special interests, a few million for his big financial supporters at Excelon, a few million for his big political supporer Emil Jones, Jr., a few million for his wife's employer.

We do not need that kind of self-dealing cronyism and fiscal irresponsiblity.

It's not a "line of arguement". It's the way standard off-the-shelf Republicans work. She is no different - her own personal power is more important than both the people who server her and those she is supposed to be serving.
