The list may be false, but your interpretation of the fact pertaining to "book banning" seems pretty generous:
"Time reported last week, for example, that Palin asked the Wasilla librarian, Mary Ellen Baker, about the process for banning books. Baker was reportedly "aghast" at the question. Palin dismissed Baker for not Giving her "full support."

    • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/09/2008 11:52:28 AM

Asking about the process is a legitimate question for an administrator, whose job is to ensure that appropriate procedures are in place. The key point is that Palin never asked that any book be removed from the shelves or even restricted to limited circulation. She does not have a history of wanting to control people's choices.

Hey Dougmn: If you are going to cite refrences, you might try reading the material. All of her per diem expenditures were within state guidelines. Her airfare which was thrownout early in the article as $93k, it turms out was over $300k less than the previous Gov's airfare the year before. Citing something makes you look smart. Citing something which shows you can't read makes you a fool.

I only have one comment for you. I read the article and want to know why we are comparing her to her predecesor? He has nothing to do with the VP spot - he shouldn't have been mentioned in the article! And, may I point out, within guidelines or not does not mean it wasn't unnessasary spending that the state of Alaska paid for. Also, I would like to know if it was in the state guidelines for her to keep federal funds instead of returning them. Why are we not hearing anything about that?

      • Posted By: DaleW @ 09/09/2008 11:44:15 AM

you will endlessly compare Obama to his predecessor should he get elected.

  • Posted By: Interesting Approach @ 09/09/2008 11:26:23 AM

i think it's rediculous, the mud slinging by the press, and the bloggers is outrageous. why can't we focus on the issues, and the people trying to capitalize on palin's sudden popularity is insane like this one - www.getsarahpalinonoprah.net and this guys blog www.rambopolitics.blogspot.com

let's get back to fixing the economy people, and fixing the oil issues.

    • Posted By: cowalker @ 09/09/2008 11:34:28 AM

It would sure help if Palin would go on the Sunday political shows and express her stand on issues. Until she does, the media doesn't even have an ethical choice to make on whether to focus on details about her past life or to take the high road.

      • Posted By: Cimarron @ 09/09/2008 11:43:42 AM

ABC will be spending two days with her this week for interviews with no restrictions. I'm sure this will just be the start of her interviews.

I'm sorry false Internet rumors swirl about EVERY ONE of the candidates. Sara Palin is not exceptional in this regard. As a matter of fact, it's fairly obvious Sara Palin is not exceptional at all. Just a mom and a small-town mayor who seized the moment and became governor after the Republicans who'd had Alaska's major political offices rotted out from within. The bottom line is, do we want exceptional people running our government, or are we looking for more C students?

  • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/09/2008 11:42:43 AM

lhen1 you obviously have no idea what it costs to staff a special needs classroom in a public school. In most classrooms, there is one teacher for 20 or more students. In the special needs classroom, it is more like one to one or at most one staff member for every two students. And the staff have to be medically trained because many of these children not only require medication but sometimes lifesaving strategies if e.g. their portable equipment stops working.

And we aren't even talking about the special equipment need that enable these students to communicate and learn. Just because a child is blind or deaf or mute doesn't mean his/her brain is any less active than a "normal" child. How much do you think a special computer for a child with limited motor skills costs?

I guess you'd rather these kids be set in front of a video machine and fed Disney cartoons all day. That would make them such productive members of society, wouldn't it? NOT!!!

Many Autistic children are also geniuses in certain areas. To serve that child you need special gifted programs in music or math or whatever gift the child has been given. We need these special children to develop their skills so they can be productive, happy members of society, not blobs in front of a boob tube.

Also, I forgot to add to my statement, isn't it convienent that Palin has plenty of time to pose for a magazine cover but no time to talk to the press about her qualifications or issues with this country? Strange, isn't it? Could it be because she is good at playing the 'bully' but actually has NO CLUE what the hell she's talking about? Yeah, I think thats it.......no clue. I have been a republican for many years, but not this year. This is a sad choice and as a woman I find her unqualified and would not want her stepping in to take over if needed.

    • Posted By: Cimarron @ 09/09/2008 11:39:04 AM

You are overlooking that ABC will be spending two full days with her this week for interviews with no restrictions. But, hey, feel free to ignore any facts that don't fit with your ideology. It is a free country after all.

      you are a liar, satinj

      • Posted By: satinj @ 09/09/2008 11:34:14 AM

Boy, some of you are dumber than I thought.
That was a good one !! Liar, huh? NOW you should KNOW that I am a republican by most people's standards. I, just this year, changed my voter registration because I am watching people around me who I care and love struggle...............due to the economy..............and I believe it is time for a change in office. It is amazing how people think they know something when they really don't. Don't you think that maybe I am educating myself on what is best for my family, my town, and my country. I feel that after 8 years of failure in government how could this be any worse? Next time be more specific so I know what I am 'lying' about.

    • Posted By: ShariPie @ 09/09/2008 11:04:48 AM

Satanj, you are so funny because you are so hypocritical! Obama has been on more magazine covers than anybody eles by far. He has avoided talking about his qualifications or issues more than the others by far! Strange isn't it? And don't lie, you have never been a republican, if you were, you'd be voting for a capitalist (which is what our country is founded on) and not a socialist, Marxist or worse--a communist (all of which believe that our money should pay for a huge government so that they can take care of us--just like they do at the DMV)

      • Posted By: satinj @ 09/09/2008 11:26:06 AM

First of all, when you actually know my voting history you can then call me a liar. I voted for Bush not once, but twice - stupid, but I did. Now look at our economy. When Clinton was in office we had a surplus now we have a deficit that we'll be lucky to recover from. But beyond that - Obama has and is campaigning - he is not afraid to talk to the public or the press because he is afraid of the questions (unlike Palin). Where have you been? Do you not watch the news or see the world going by. When you get your head out of your ass you can make a personal judgement of me.

    • Posted By: Liquidity @ 09/09/2008 10:56:19 AM

And which "magazine cover" would that be? Any of the several real and imagined covers that have been photoshop created?

The good news is that your view is irrelevant to the fact that she and McCain will win the election, The polls already make this obvious. Only a huge stumble will jeopardize a McCain win.

  • Posted By: LondonInNY @ 09/09/2008 10:51:12 AM

NEWSFLASH TO SARAH PALIN: John McCain has a severe oedipal complex and will do anything to touch and fondle other women. Does it not strike you as odd that McCain and Palin look more like lovers on the campaign trail than political team members? Ironic how in America our press seems rarely willing to cover Republican scandals involving marital infidelity. McCain was unfaithful to his first wife, whom he cheated on and eventually dumped to marry the wealthy Cindy Lou Hensley of Arizona Budweiser wealth. Evidence that McCain has cheated on Cindy Lou Hensley with Lobbyist Vicki Iseman has been swept under the rug by the same mainstream media that stalked John Edwards. Ironic that Vicki Iseman looks strikingly similar to McCain's mother and a young Cindy Lou Hensley. Now McCain, who was literally a dead man walking has his campaign viagra in the form of Governor Sarah Barracuda Palin and John McCain can't keep his hands off her.

    • Posted By: KyleCope @ 09/09/2008 10:58:24 AM

Hey, idiot: an Oedipal complexes refer to men who are attracted to their mothers. Sarah Palin is not, nor does she even look like, John McCain's 96 year-old mother.

God, you liberal Kool-Aid drinkers are so stupid.

McCain is a pawn in this choice. I think he wanted Leiberman but the religious right would have freaked out. Not an Oedipal complex, but it does look creepy to see the old man flanked by two much younger women (Cindy and Palin). Like an old man's w*t dream.

      • Posted By: KeriTail @ 09/09/2008 11:30:13 AM

It's also used for those who are attacted to a person who has the personality of their mother or is a mothering figure. Just wanted to point that out, it's not all about looks.

    • Posted By: Liquidity @ 09/09/2008 11:01:11 AM

      What a genuinely pathetic post.

    • Posted By: KyleCope @ 09/09/2008 10:56:19 AM

Idiot - an Oedipal Complex is when someone is attracted to his mother. Sarah Palin looks nothing like McCain's 96-year-old mother, you boob.

  • Posted By: Woodyblack @ 09/09/2008 8:09:15 AM

Exactly HOW has Obama been vetted by the media?! There are STILL questions about some of his alliances, questions which the media is NOT asking, and it is EASY for a Democrat to sit down with every major new source; THEY ALL AGREE WITH HIM! The old media is a bastion of liberal thought; which ironically enough means no thought at all.

C'mon, everyone, let'f focus on the issues with this election. The press has been spraying mud out of a firehose, not slinging it. all sides have been looking into each candidate with a fine-toothed comb, trying to find something to exploit. I even see people trying to capitalize on Sarah Palin's sudden rise to stardom,.. like this guy www.getsarahpalinonoprah.net . nothing more than an obvious attempt to sell Sarah Palin tshirts. or this guys new blog www.rambopolitics.blogspot.com just crazy stuff.

...and then when McCain wins, you will be bitchin' how awful and scary his Presidency is, and how nuts his VP is...you can't have it both ways. Thanks to FOX, there is no such things as "fair" journalism anymore, you NEED to take sides...it is clear which side you have taken.

It's important to do stories like this, but this presentation of this piece is as misleading as many of the rumors about Sarah Palin. If you read only the first part, you'd think that Palin was being "slimed" by a lot of nutjobs. When you read the analysis closely, it turns out that these claims in a viral email are based on misinformation or exaggeration, but are often based in rather disturbing truth. She looked into banning books (but didn't proceed with it), she attended a meeting of a successionist group that her husband was a member of but she never actually joined, she supported Steve Forbes not Pat Buchanan, and she has said that creationism should be taught in schools even though she has never made it a policy issue. You've of course left out Trooper-gate and the lies about earmarks and the bridge to nowhere. Yes, there are people out there trying to slime Sarah Palin, but there are also people out there trying to find out information about somebody we don't know much about. Please write honest stories rather than articles as if designed for link to drudge that seem in the spirit of silencing rather than encouraging honest questions.

These types of forums show how divided our country still is. Instead of bickering and complaining and criticizing each other, why don't we try to work together. I have my opinions and you have yours as to who would be better able to lead our nation. That person must have character. Our vote must be based on something, because realistically the average person is helped some no matter who is in charge, as long as things are good. When things are bad, it is easy to see government's shortcomings. Don't expect too much. I will base my vote on the character of the individuals running. What has each man given up of consequence. Obama gave a up a potential wall streer career to help others. he soon turned that into a political career for his own purpose. McCain gave up his right to freedom in exchange for more torture and the years of not knowing if he would ever return home.

The party of change. The old Washington. Politics as usual. Wheres the change Obama? Riots at Dem convention and riots at Rep convention? Why would you be a Dem unless you need a hand out.

Liberals are embarrassing. They will fight each other, you, me and anyone else because they are worthless. They stand for everything but what is right.

And I was worried. I keep asking Obama supporters why they like Obama and NO ONE can answer the question.

Why did the chicken cross the road? Because he wanted change!!!!!!

Next time a lib say they want change tell them you don't have any.

    • Posted By: satinj @ 09/09/2008 11:17:15 AM

This is one of most thoughtless comments on this post. You need to find something better to do with your time. If you fit into the 'upper class' america, good for you but most people do not. People who are democratic are not 'looking for a handout', they are your hard working people who are working in the trenches. In fact, look at the military, are those people looking for a handout? I don't think so. I think they are hard working people, and, by the way, they do not fall into the 'upper class' america.
And, if 'change' is so bad - why is McCain now using it as his new slogan? Is he too old and too tired to come up with something himself?
Also, the riots were simply people who were protesting the war - not specifically democrats or republicans. And, in case you didn't know, in America we have the freedom of speech. So, if you don't like it - leave.
And when and if you have something intellegent to say - post another one!

I am an Obama supporter and I can answer the question why I do. Because he is intelligent, caring, understands the world; is not knee jerk reactionary. He will help the people of America get better education, better health care and not get stiffed by taxes while the corporations get tax breaks and continue to exploit the illegal immigrants as cheap labor with no responsibilities to them, and hide behind phony excuses. I like obama because he believes in alternative energy and investing in it. He knows what it's like to owe money on student loans. He wasn't born with a silver spoon in his mouth and he is the brightest brain around, showing a great willingness to listen and learn and refusing to engage in the gutter politics so loved by the right wing, neo conservative radicals who run things. He will not take us into
war and if we elect him the world will be a better place in 4 years time.

So you say she INCREASED Special Needs funding by TRIPLING it while pregnant and HIDING the Down Syndrome diagnose from her other children? This is a checked FACT. She herself has admitted to not knowing if she could cope with a special needs child...did she not have faith then? I guess that part can no be "fact checked"

    • Posted By: Cimarron @ 09/09/2008 11:12:46 AM

Wow, you are undoubtedly male, but if you're female, you certainly have not given birth. When I was pregnant with my first child, I often wondered if I/we could cope with being parents even of a normal, healthy child. Not having such doubts and apprehension would be abnormal.

ImpartialThinker, you certainly have alot to say about something that you probably know nothing about!!! As the mother of a child with a disability, I have on many occasions asked myself if I had the strengh to cope. One never knows until you actually live the life. I pray YOU never have to find out.

Look at the leftist with the smarts. If you read the article carefully you will not that she raised funding over the last THREE YEARS. Let me explain to you how childbirth works since for most liberals the baby doesn't last the whole term because its good give mothers the choice to kill their children.....It last for nine months not three years. She would have no way of knowing when she started raising the funding

Newsweek: that's for *starting* to realize that impartiality actually belongs in journalism again. Heed what happened at MSNBC, the Obama network: Olbermann and Matthews got bounced from their political anchor chairs for their biases.
