Actually the dogs had to be put to sleep because of the violence he had used them for, they were considered violent by animal control. I was living in Richmond at the time and it was a big deal.

I think we are so out of line with muck raking of our canidates. The American people are so Jerry Springer orientated that we miss the point of whats important. As a voter I don't care if her daughter is going to have a baby. That just makes her like one of the other thousands of unwed mothers. I don't care where Obama's ancestors were from. What I care about with all the canidates is there experiance, and vision for this great country of ours. Although, I am only one of the little people at grass roots level I believe that is what most American voters think.

Thank you! I wish all four candidates positions on all major issues could be clearly explained and put in print and on the internet for everyone to read. Also, a complete and fact checked resume for all four also, Including college transcripts showing classes and grades (this is more important for Obama and Palin since they have shorter records). I want this to be more like a job interview than a Springer episode!

Thank you for finally reporting something TRUE about Governor Palin.

  • Posted By: Bamboo2 @ 09/09/2008 9:56:55 AM

All these "facts" are irelevant. As liberal demoncrats, we must stand united in our absolute contempt, disdain and unmitigated hatred of this Palin "woman."

    • Posted By: seaholly @ 09/09/2008 10:46:49 AM

"Facts" irelevant???? You have got to be kidding. Well here is a fact for you..if you want to be led down the path of socialism with someone who hasn't got the backbone to stand up to our enemies...then vote against the "woman"!!!!!

Its obvious the fact checking was done by a republican...of course none of these claims are true...these aren't the droids you are looking for....its the old "Jedi" mind trick....Very Sad...Very Sad Indeed...JC

The fact that this woman is being skewered like this by the media quite frankly nauseates me. The

double standards, the molecular-level dissection that has been and is being performed on Palin is

nothing if not utterly disgusting. The media, and consequently many, many liberal Americans

themselves simply cannot fathom the idea that Sarah Palin just might be perfectly qualified for

the office she seeks, and this medieval witch hunt itself should horrify Americans more than any

perceived flaw of hers that has been uncovered to date. The whole thing is so appalling I feel

like showering after reading any of these pieces of amateurish drivel.

I don't care how religious she is or isn't. Why do you? We have a separation of church and state

in this country, don't we? Can she govern? Can she build consensus? These are the pertinent

questions. Can she motivate and inspire people to act to improve their own country? Can she

exercise fiscal responsibility and sound judgement? 80-something percent of Alaskans think so. The

highest approval rating of all 50 governors. Wouldn't they know? Do their opinions count in Keith

Olbermann's mind? Or are they just idiots too, Keith? But the media are trying to convince us that

her first act as vice president would be to nuke the Godless communists, and her second act would

be to institute Tuesday night science textbook burnings in town squares all over America.

Maybe instead of mocking her strong religious beliefs and refusal to abort her disabled baby, harmless though those things clearly are to you, you should instead see them for what they are: signs of strength, to be admired in a national leader. Indications that she refuses to take the easy way out for expediency or efficiency. Indications that she does the hard things willingly, even if they create a lifetime of challenges and commitments for her personally. She has proven to me that she does things because they are right, and in the best interests of those she governs. That's good enough for me.

      Hi,

It's refreshing to read a comment that appears to have a self thinking and independent mind that can navigate through the roadblocks of so much mis-information on the media platforms available to us. more people need to think for themselves instead of quickly believing what they think they might have heard and/or adding their own misrepresenting spin to the negative hysteria already on the rampage.

      thanks,

Notice how Palin increased funding for special needs children only AFTER she knew she was carrying a Downs Syndrome baby. Then she tripled spending. But BEFORE she was pregnant, she cut spending. Sadly, republicans don't get it until it happens to them.

  • Posted By: satinj @ 09/09/2008 10:36:59 AM

All I want to say is that before you publish a NEW article you should do your research first. Just yesterday, you, News Week, printed the exact opposite of all these statements. And many other places reported many of the same at about day two after the announcement of her as VP. Is it not a fact that she is so far right she's scary? Is it now not a fact that her husband was a member of the Alaskan Independant Party for 8 years? Strange how all of these facts are now fiction. Honestly, it sounds to me like a buy out - just another scandal. You can't have it both ways. Either half of the press in American really isn't doing their job by getting information first (again, including News Week) or it was/is true and some how we are just going to 'make it all go away'. Also, when you talk about Sara Palin's spending, why are we comparing it to her predecessor? What he did or did not do isn't relevant to HER spending, it is amazing how the facts cannot be printed for what they are. Let's make her 'look better' by comparing her to someone eles. So he ripped off the state and she did to, but he is not the issue here, is he? Another thing, I am so tired of her tramping around carrying her down syndrome baby to make her look like some type of hero mom. There are plenty of people in this world that choose to keep children with many more problems than that child will ever have and we are not praising them in our media! She is using that kid to her advantage as a ploy of 'look at me and how wonderful I am' - I don't buy it.

I hope the media is paying attention. I'm sick of seeing the MSM trotting out lie after lie about Gov. Plain even after they have been thoroughly debunked.

  • Posted By: Lark1 @ 09/09/2008 10:35:46 AM

Tennismom is her graduation degree a fact? I never see anything listed except that she attended the University of Idaho college for a time. i used to live in Alaska and college costs are next to nothing in comparison ,and people usually attended the OUTSIDE for degrees not offered in Alaska.

  • Posted By: dougmn @ 09/09/2008 10:30:50 AM

Thanks for clearing all that up. She wore a Buchanan button as a courtesy like I would wear a David Duke or Slobodan Milosevic button if one of them came to visit me.
I suppose this one about her getting paid by the state just to live and eat at home is just a rumor too: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/08/AR2008090803088.html

It is interesting that FactCheck mentioned several items in Ms Kilkenny's note that they debunked. However, they did not even mention the several issue-related items in Ms Kilkenny's email (taking Wasilla from in the black to heavily in debt, supporting the "Bridge to Nowhere" before it was convenient and keeping the money Congress gave Alaska for the bridge, and others). Does FactCheck normally pass over mentioning those things that they analyze and find are true?

Watching what has happened to Senators Obama and Clinton on the internet rumor-mongering (the whole "secret Muslim Terrorist" idiocy mentioned by Huberc being a prime example) I fully understand the need to shine light on the wilder claims out there. But focusing only on those rumors while ignoring the substantive issues (like running one's town into debt or lying about one's position on things like the "Bridge to Nowhere") is to support the RNC narrative that any questioning of Gov Palin is inherently a plot to discredit a Crusading Reformer. Gov Palin is applying to be VP of the US behind a 72 year old man with a history of cancer with a father and grandfather who died of sudden heart attacks at ages younger than 72. It is NOT wrong to challenge her statements with substantive critiques, and the campaign's refusal to let that happen does a disservice both to Gov Palin and the American people. "Country First"--unless it interferes with the RNC campaign.

The interesting question is, WHEN THE iNEVITABLE HAPPENS AND OBAMA LOSES, will his avid supporters blame Bush?

    • Posted By: Huberc @ 09/09/2008 10:27:31 AM

      Entr Your Comment
No, we will blame the very rich, the far religious right and the woefully uneducated... The very rich are voting for their own interests, the far right are determined to "save" us all from ourselves no matter the cost, the uneducated are easily played by the other two groups. In the end, its this country I love and all our futures which will be destroyed.

"many of the books on the list that Palin supposedly wanted to censor weren't even in print at the time, proving that the list is a fabrication"

This is a nonsensical statement and should cause people to wonder if the writer has an agenda. Whether a book is in print or not has nothing to do with whether a library might have it or not. All libraries have books that are out of print!

    • Posted By: Liquidity @ 09/09/2008 10:25:43 AM

You might wish to work on your reading skills:

The list includes the first four Harry Potter books, none of which had been published at the time of the
Palin-Emmons conversations. The first wasn't published until 1998. In fact, the list is a simple
cut-and-paste job, snatched (complete with typos and the occasional incorrect title) from the Florida
Institute of Technology library Web page, which presents the list as "Books banned at one time or
      another in the United States."

But, I suppose you probably one of those Obama supporters that want us to credit him with all kind of legislative experience and accomplishment that thusfar just has not occured. Once he goes back to the Senate, we will find out if he is actually capable of authoring and passing substantive legislation.

travvler seems to be implying that Gov. Palin is psychic -- because it is one thing to address a long-ago published book that is out of print but quite a different matter to know well in advance the title of a book that has yet to be WRITTEN! But let's not let simple things like FACTS get in the way of our bigotry. On another note, NOW has argued that Gov. Palin is actually a MAN, which if true would make her the first man to have borne five children ... a feat which would of course make her a SUPERMAN! Of course, no Obama supporter even cringed when Jimmy Carter called him a "black boy" -- and the Klansman Harry Byrd still robs us blind from his Senate seat long after talking publicly in recent years about "white ***" ... I do feel sad for those who cannot see the truth right in front of their own eyes ... because they dare not learn the truth.

From the minute Bush was elected, the democrats, left wingbloggers, and pundits such as Chris Matthews and Olbermann engaged in pure insanely-unaware submission to hatred and that's before 911 and Irag, and continued hating for 8 years! How can they stop now? They're in desperation mode of hating because Palin is so refreshing, and overpowers Obama manipulations. Such pure livid hating = democrats.

    • Posted By: nailbunny @ 09/09/2008 10:18:02 AM

Did you ever read Ann Coulter? Seriously. That is hate. I could name so many more so-called political writers who just flung lies and if anyone like Factcheck.org went through and found all of the lies she and her ilk were telling, they just called them bleeding heart liberals and unpatriotic. Get your history correct.

The spin and smears are dizzying. A friend of mine's church secretary sent out emails claiming Obama is a secret Muslim terrorist. What is going on in America today? I'm afraid at the end of the day, Karl Rove will win the spin, and the American people will have another 4 years of failed policies. Its interesting to watch us tear ouselves apart. We will be our own undooing. A world with China as the only super power will interesting.......

These rumors surfaced in ONE WEEK. In addition, I find the attacks on her UNDER 18 daughter and infant son totally disgusting. Just last night a Democratic Underground POSTER put her son TRIG ON EBAY. i THINK he or she needs to prosecuted. Are they intimidating her to drop out????? This is NOT democracy.

It isn't fun when the tables are turned, is it? This is the constant abuse that we all suffered in both Bush Campaigns. You can dish it out, but you can't take it.
