Nothing either camp will say in this election can change this history:
Our nation suffered its worst attack on the Republicans' executive watch, while the President setting records for taking time off.
Our nation has sunk from a state of financial health, to be mired in the greatest public debt in history, and suffering from the Republicans' bedding down with every form of corporate crony there is, from no-bid government contracts to turning a blind eye to shoddy Wall Street and banking practices.
The American people are keeping an eye on this ball, you can bet your sweet bippy.
It's high time to fire this greedy, crooked, spend-happy Republican government with a resounding vote of No Confidence this November.

I don't like Bush II,!!! But he was only in office for less than 9 months before 9/11, and had only taken one vacation period since his Inauguration and that was for family reasons, and for four days. Since then he has been away frequently it is true. 120 days less than the democratic Congress, and never just to avoid a vote. Bush sucks, but the blame for 9/11 is not on him but rather on my hero Bill Clinton, unfortunately for not addressing the terrorist threat while in office, but the economy was good and we all felt safe until then.

Comment: The I.Q."s of this Nation have dropped conciderable over the last 15 years. The media understands how to twist the stupid American public into believing that Sarah Palin is even worth consideration. Women are asking for Sarah Palin like Glasses by the thousands. We have become a nation of reality shows, were no thinking is involved. So, get ready to fall into the "dust-bin-of-History". We will get what we deserve. Most American's are suffering, perhaps we have not suffered enough. Can you imagine Sarah Palin in the White House as President. It will make for a real soap opera reality show. We will all be the losers.

Wow. The Summary took WAY too strong a stance & painted a 1-sided picture of Palin that the details do not support. I've never disagreed w/ you guys more strongly.

Palin did not stop the Bridge to Nowhere -- CONGRESS did. They killed the funding & she is on video pushing for the Bridge when running for governor. She then "killed" the bridge after it was already dead & had been exposed for the fraud it was. She changed her stance -- FLIP-FLOPPED -- when it became a political disaster. She then backstabbed other Republicans b/c that's what politicians (Dem & Gop) do to get ahead. She kept the money for the bridge and uses lobbyiest agressively to get millions in earmarks for her state & city.

She's LYING when she tells people now -- dispite it being disproved -- that she "killed" that bridge.

Palin was NOT in the AIP but she DID appear at their conventions and meetings on more than one occasion. Add her husband being officially in the party (till 2002!). Her claim that her attendence was "a courtesy" is BS. What AMERICAN mayor should support a Secessionist party as a mere courtesy? At the least it shows poor judgement but seriously who are we kidding here?

BTW, other than hypocrisy & lying about it, I don't care if she was with the AIP. People do dumb things sometimes. Admit it, say you learned from it, move on. Don't LIE!

When the mayor of your town asks you about banning books, do you really think there's no pressure there? If the President said the same thing, wouldn't the typical person be intimidated? And don't all politicians (DEM or GOP) speak in code to cover their butts?

Do you really believe Palin was asking the librarian a rhetorical question? What nonsense! And what of the 100+ people who fought to re-instate the librarian after Palin fired her?

Palin applied that same "rhetorical" pressure regarding creationism.

If that's what she believes, fine. That's her right. But again DON'T LIE!

Lastly, Palin left Wasilla in the red. That makes her claim about being a fiscal conservative a LIE as well.

The woman is flat a LIAR & this report is covering for those lies.

Usually factcheck is decently reliable & in tone professional. This is the 1st post i've seen that's so off base that i have to wonder if there was a mistake & a partisan writer let in.

You discredited your site with this summary.

If the news media would be fair, they need to bring out every ounce of dirt on this woman from her stealing tax dollars, to her dislike for gays and lesbians, to her lies about the bridge to nowhere and the list goes on and on and on........I never would have voted for McCain but I did have respect for him. Now, I have more respect for a rattle snake than I have for him and his party.

Palin is pro-life, even in the case of rape, and opposes same-sex marriage and favors the discussion of creationism alongside evolution in schools. But she hasn't pushed for legislative changes in any of those areas.

The Associated Press reported Sept 3: "Palin's children attend public schools and Palin has made no push to have creationism taught in them. ... It reflects a hands-off attitude toward mixing government and religion by most Alaskans."

She even vetoed a bill that would have denied benefits to employees in same-sex relationships because she said it was unconstitutional.

That says plenty. It shows she knows the limits of government, and believes that government isn't there to tell us what to do.

Obama seems more inclined to use government to control what choices we have than Palin does. Have you seen HR 800? The democrats are trying to eliminate the secret ballot in union elections. That will mean another hand in the worker's pocket (for dues, which have to be paid before the worker can even get the job), and less opportunity to advance on the merits when you do have a job.

I bet all those small businesses our economy is so dependent on will be so happy to know that the democrats want to unionize every business in the country. That will definitely make their products and services more competitive with foreign competition.

I notice you don't address the only issue that concerns me. Palin claims she said no to the funds for the bridge to nowhere. I hear that Alaska actually got those funds and used a portion of them for a highway to nowhere. Is this incorrect. If not, then why does she keep lying about it and why do you spend your time pointing out the error in the stupid stuff instead of exposing this clear lie that is right under your nose?

    • Posted By: Jill from Florida @ 09/10/2008 1:10:18 PM

You mean the lie that Obama is NOT A PORKER asking for $1 Million per day in the Senate? Or the one about him not taking money from lobbyists - but does from their member and staff members? Like Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, ExxonMobil and BP Oil Company (the world-wide largest oil company)??? Or his definition of Middle Class are families making between $200 k and $0.5 Million? Which one is MORE important?

      • Posted By: flucky @ 09/10/2008 1:21:36 PM

Ok, enough. What were the earmarks that Obama requested for? Do you have a clue or are you a parrot?

And on the donation scene, do you have a list of these 'Donors' with amounts donated? As far as I know, there is a limit to how much an individual can donate to a political campaign, so are you saying a law has been broken? It's time to put up or shut up.

        • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/10/2008 3:38:37 PM

One of Obama's top supporters, James Crown, serves on the board of General Dynamics, a military contractor. Crown is a member of Obama's campaign finance committee and a big superbundler for Obama. He is also on Obama's Illinois campaign committee.

Obama made an $8 million earmark request in 2006 for a program that was overseen by General Dynamics.

Obama also made a $3 million request for renovation of a space center named for Crown's grandfather, Henry Crown, at the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago.

Obama also secured several million dollars for a project at Chicago State University. Emil Jones Jr., the president of the Illinois State Senate and an early and powerful political benefactor of Obama's, has been a dogged champion of Chicago State, and one of Senator Obama's closest friends.

Obama also requested a million dollar earmark for the hospital where his wife works and which gave his wife a huge raise.

Thank you for your refreshing remarks. This conversation was on the verge of going down the proverbial rabbit hole.

On Obama's money raising, it appears that people he knows are helping him. I can see friends doing that if they believe in him. Note: I didn't notice any oil entities in your list.

On his earmarks, I didn't see anything sublime there, just money for museums, schools, hospitals which seems honorable to me.

Is there something in particular in there that I should focus on? I'm not baiting here, just asking questions about your excellent reporting.

        • Posted By: Jill from Florida @ 09/10/2008 1:42:10 PM

Go to the Center for Responsive Politics. It includes the lobbyist money and political contributions made - directly from the reports submitted by each campaign.

As for Obama's earmarks, they were clearly stated BY HIM at the beginning of his campaign when he didn't realize that "asking for money for specific projects for specific recipients" equals EARMARKS. Google Obama - Earmarks for yourself.

          • Posted By: pearsoncrz @ 09/10/2008 3:41:25 PM

The list of Obama's bundlers is too long to post here, and getting longer, but if you want to see it for yourself, do as Jill suggests.

While pledging to turn down donations from lobbyists themselves, Senator Obama raised more than $1 million in the first three months of his presidential campaign from law firms and companies that have major lobbying operations in the nation's capital. Shunning money from lobbyists registered to do business on Capitol Hill does not extend to lawyers whose partners lobby there. Nor does the ban apply to corporations that have major lobby operations in Washington. And the prohibition does not extend to lobbyists who ply their trade in state capitals including Springfield, Ill., Tallahassee, Fla., and Sacramento, Calif., although some deal with national clients and issues. Obama accepts money from lobbyists' spouses and other family members, their partners at the law firms where they work if the partners aren't registered to lobby, senior executives at companies that hire lobbyists, and state-level lobbyists. Among his top fundraisers are at least a few who were registered lobbyists as recently as last year.

Overall, the same wealthy interests are funding his campaign as are funding other candidates, whether or not they are lobbyists.

          • Posted By: flucky @ 09/10/2008 2:06:54 PM

Why don't you just post them yourself for everyone to see?

            • Posted By: Jill from Florida @ 09/10/2008 2:17:25 PM

I bet you will be first in line for the handouts Obama is promising. Rather than doing something on your own for your own benefit, you DEMAND that I do it for you. You are either lazy or just plain ignorant. Either rate, you are showing that you are a waste of my time and my tax dollars.

              • Posted By: flucky @ 09/10/2008 2:37:51 PM

More insults. A typical Republican. If you are going to make outrageous claims, like Big Oil is donating to a political campaign, which is illegal btw, then you should contact the appropriate authorities instead of telling us to guess where you get your information.

Where does Obama's money come from?

One of his bundlers is Scott Blake Harris, the managing partner of the Washington, D.C., firm Harris Wiltshire and Grannis, which handles such legislative issues as Communications/Broadcasting/ Radio/TV, Science/Technology, Telecommunications, and Trade (Foreign and Domestic), as well as representing the Computing Technology Industry Association. As an Obama bundler, Harris raised $200,000+

Another one of Obama's bundlers is Thomas J. Perrilli, managing partner in the Washington, D.C., office of Jenner and Block, a Chicago general practice law firm, which includes among its clients the National Cable and Telecommunications Association and Time Warner Inc. As an Obama bundler, Perrelli raised $200,000+.

And look who funded his campaign for the senate.

          2003-2004
Listed among the top 50 contributors to Barack Obama 2003-2004 are found the following political action committees:

          AT&T PAC IL
          Allstate Insurance PAC
          Credit Union PAC
          Community Banc PAC
          Zack PAC
AIA IL PAC (American Insurance Assn)
          IL Road Builders PAC
          MCI Midwest Employees PAC
          Peoples Energy PAC
          Spirit PAC
          ICTA-PAC
          IL Manufactured Housing Assn PAC
          IL Mortgage Bankers PAC
          ACPAC (Automobile Club PAC)
Another one of his bundlers is "lobbyist on leave" Emmett Beliveau. Clients such as Oshkosh Truck and Pinkerton Consulting paid more than $700,000 for Emmett Beliveau and his colleagues at Patton Boggs to represent them during the first half of 2007.

Have you heard of the word BUNDLER? One who bundles money for a campaign. Includes family members and staff members and personal associates.

Why did Pat Buchanan himself say Palin supported him? Just as people are so quick to believe negatives about Sen. Obama, I believe all the negatives about Liptstick Palin. She seems to be a very forceful woman who has a henpecked husband and a child out of control. Action speaks louder than words. She's such a ptibull, how could she feel offended by the statement Sen. Obama saying about a pig wearing lipstick? If you can dish, then you've got to be able to take it Ms. Pitbull. And, Obama was talking about McCain, but if the shoe fits, wear it well Ms. Pitbull.

Am I the only person that thinks it is a rather fascist way to find out if a librarian would be willing to ban books on command by Palin, to fire her? Sounds like Palin fired everyone, and then waited to see who would grovel to get their jobs back when she took office of governor. I find this very disturbing. I hope to see Emmons being interviewed live by CNN.

This is politics and there will always be false claims and rumors. Both parties and all candidates are guilty of it so we need organizations like factcheck.org. What we really see from the facts is that all 4 candidates are reasonably qualified to lead. Bill Clinton probably said it best (and I don't think he was taking a shot at Obama) when he said no one is entirely prepared to be President. How could you be when you've never done it before? We did okay with Lincoln, who had less experience than Obama and had a far more difficult situation than what we face now!

A key skill to me is that in working as a community organizer, Obama had to work with whoever was there. He did not have the "luxury" of firing those that didn't support him. He had to find a way to appeal to them and get them to help him. I'm not attacking Palin. She was empowered to fire if she found it necessary. But I would much rather have someone that tries to work with the opposition rather than just getting rid of them. The President (or Vice President) can't just fire the congress if they don't get their support. They need to find a way to work with them.

If you put the qualification issue aside, then you can look at issues. Obama wants to cut taxes for the middle and working class, he wants to encourage manufacturing in the US by providing tax breaks to companies that manufacture in the US (not those that ship their work offshore), and he wants to use the skills he developed as a community organizer to bring people together and solve our country's problems.

What I've heard from McCain/Palin that drives me away is that they want to give tax breaks to everyone (including the super rich) and all corporations (including those that ship jobs off shore), and they think the war in Iraq is necessary and vital to US security. While these aren't their only positions, I don't agree with them and thus believe Obama/Biden are the better team. I also cannot understand the logic of continuing to fight a hugely expensive war at the same time we are cutting taxes for everyone.

      chris.kite ...

You state that "A key skill to me is that in working as a community organizer, Obama had to work with whoever was there."

That would only be considered to be a skill if it produced verifiable positive results.

Obama has not provided the following -
The number of applicants requesting assistance.
The number of applicants that actually obtained significant assistance.
The number of applicants that achieved re-employed in productive jobs.
The number of improvements that were made to the educational system.
A demonstrated reduction in the number of shooting deaths in the city.

With regard to the last consideration, the number of shooting deaths in Chicago over this past summer rose to 25 - more than double the number of shooting deaths for US military serving in all of Iraq.

Also, Obama conveniently avoids mentioning any activities in which he engaged with ACORN.

      In summary - how convenient!

Officials of the Alaska Independence Party say that Palin and her husband were indeed members.
    http://blogs.abcnews.com/politicalpunch/2008/09/another-aip-off.html
As recently as August 31 of this year, Palin herself made a video telling the Alaska Independence Party to "keep up the good work." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZwvPNXYrIyI

I am a Canadian who travels around the world annually on business. I have been doing so for 23 years. I am alarmed and saddened at how the reputation of such a great nation as the United States has deminished on the global stage. When I first travelled abroad I was so
impressed by the positive attitude toward your great nation by so many people in so many
countries. So much so that I was jealous of the accolades bestowed upon you. I believe if Americans could see how the feeling have changed so drastically ... how much you are despised all over the world ... perhaps you would think twice about the republican policies that have left your country in shambles. With unpopular security acts... with a bogus war... with econic termoil... and the thousands of soldiers who have died since 9/11....with a republican president that is hated world wide... and the populatity of your country at it's lowest
point ever.... are you sure the terrorists didn't win?
