Seems that we are in for a very dangerous 4 years. Obama's staff seems lack character and have a hard time keeping top secrets

What does Obama or his staff have to do with this article?

  • Posted By: C. MacLean @ 11/11/2008 5:49:23 PM

"If [Leonard] is right, not only are the defendants innocent, there was no crime."

Oh, there's a crime, all right - allowing Dick Cheney to subvert the government, the constitution, and the office of the vice presidency all fall into the category of high crimes and misdemeanors.

The man needs to be impeached, and then tried for war crimes.

The best post by far is the one that said that Obama will "tell our enemies our weakest areas and how to get through it." Does anyone believe this nonsense?

    • Posted By: Braes @ 09/09/2008 7:29:10 PM

Unfortunately, almost half of the half that votes.

Just as a bit of irony, Bin Laden told us the entirety of his plans shortly after 9/11 - to attempt to bankrupt our economy, as opposed to defeating our military. He told us himself that the attacks were diversionary and that his true purpose was to cause America to spend billions on needless wars! As far as I can tell, his plan has been a near-complete success.

Sometimes I wonder if Bin Laden's unfortunate effectiveness has been partially due to demoralizing people who know what's going on by explaining his strategy, and watching that information be completely ignored by the half of America who can't stop screaming, can't calm down, and hates anyone who gets in the way of their vindictive revenge. Much as I'll never forgive him for what he's done to the country, and world, I have to admit that his strategy has undeniably been horrendously effective. The physical terrorism is just a diversion. The true thrust is economic, and we are losing that battle badly.

Somehow the entire subsection of America that votes against peace and accuse others of "playing right into the terrorists' hands" by doing so are...playing right into the terrorists' hands.

Yeah, he has really gotten us to do more harm to ourselves than he can anylonger. I suspect he sits in a nice Villa in Pakistan under the care of the ISI, as an asset more valuable to them than their nuclear stockpile. As long as he lives, we will pour cash into Pakistan in aid and arms. Mr. 10%, their President is a Saudi Stooge. The Taliban are quietly taking major cities now.
          We look like idiots.

Hard to get media to jump on Israel. Heck I even have a real hard time with it. After having seen Dachau while stationed in Germany I have a soft spot for them. They spied on us before with Pollard, and have done it again, through a K Street shop. Look up AIPAC and PNAC.

who did Weissman and Rosen get "Secret" information from? And why are they not in trouble?

    • Posted By: Braes @ 10/16/2008 12:07:06 AM

I think the root is the Lawrence Franklin Espionage Scandal, and he plead guilty, I believe.
Agents for the right wing in another country fed Cheney things in one door and got secrets out the other.
Also remember this Justice Department wanted to confiscate the papers of Jack Anderson, after his death. They made a state secrets case there too that bombed.

Our governmental system is as Ron Paul would say full of liars and crooks. There are no honest people left in this country.Dick Cheney and the Bush administration our the biggest traitors of our time right next to the Clinton commies.Justice will be swift and painful in the new world make no mistake.

GOD SAYS NOTHING WILL BE KEPT SECRET! ALL WILL COME OUT INTO THE LIGHT! AND IF OBAMA DOES BECOME PRESIDENT -WHICH I HOPE HE DOES THERE WILL BE SOMEBODY WITH BRAINS TO MANAGE AMERICA FOR ONCE!BUSH MCCAIN SUCKS!

    • Posted By: La. man @ 09/09/2008 9:49:30 PM

Come on belly, you've got to be kidding, brains, he can't find his ass with both hands much less lead America . If he does win GOD Bless America because we'll need it with this muslim as President.

      • Posted By: TheVigil @ 09/10/2008 6:17:13 PM

Obama is not Muslim. And most Muslims are fine and honorable people who love their families and work hard at their jobs. You're full of hatred, and it's a disgrace to our country.

  • Posted By: La. man @ 09/09/2008 7:15:34 PM

There are things that are best kept secret like our plans of protection and the likes. It will be worse if Oboma should get in office, he'll tell our enemies our weakest areas and how to get through it.

    • Posted By: TheVigil @ 09/10/2008 6:15:53 PM

Bin Laden outlined the extent of his plans back in 2004 and earlier, stating that his aim was not the defeat of the American military forces but the destruction of the American economy by disrupting his normal operations.

Since then, the nation has seemed to either completely ignore this or else take the man's advice, spending hundreds of billions on unncessary operations and throwing the American economy into near-recession.

So stop talking about "telling our enemies our weakest areas". Bin Laden telling us his own plan and thus his weakness didn't seem to deter the effectiveness of that plan any. And our weaknesses are plain to see. We're a huge country with thousands of major ports, all of which are rife with the potential for terrorist incident. I shake my head at the air marshals sometimes, because the next logical target for any terrorist attack isn't in the air, which now has security. It's probably a chemical, biological, or combined explosive attack on a major American port or frieght center.

As a large country with semiporous borders, we are going to be very significantly exposed to the risk of asymmetrical terror attacks, possibly for our entire existence. That's why the best tactics, and the most successful ones employed so far, are diplomatic and economic solutions for the countries fostering terrorism and intelligence-based small-team strikes against known terrorist bases.

      And it's spelled "Obama"...

    • Posted By: Braes @ 09/09/2008 7:27:45 PM

Yeah, you bet that's going to happen. I bet he is going to stay awake at night reading the information he wants Al-Qaeda to have to Bin Laden over the phone.
      Pffffffffffffffft.

  • Posted By: TheVigil @ 09/10/2008 6:08:26 PM

Given the Bush administration's views on "executive privilege" - heavy emphasis on "privilege" - I think it will be criminal if the Justice Department manages to force this man to be quiet.

This smells a lot like the federal government acting like - not to pull punches - a street gang. This is someone who was known for standing up to Rove and his dirty brand of politics. I've seen gang members who used less coercion than this.

Remember when people were asked about things like the privacy act - "if you did not do anything you don't have anything to worry about" Yea right - the current adm. policy is closer to fascism than I ever thought possible in this country - sad

There is so much dirty dealing going on in the White House, that even now it is being exposed. Bob Woodward put a couple books out, and Ron Suskind has too. This Administration deliberately mislead this country into an unneccessary war, has allowed jobs to go overseas, and worst of all they perjered themselves before Congress. That CIA memo that was backdated and used to convince people of Iraq's WMD program, those people think they are above the law. If you want 4 more years of Bush policies, vote for Mc Cain. You people in Ohio have been fooled TWICE, how many jobs has ur state lost? Ur jobs got shipped to China, and Bush&Co blessed it and gave those companies TAX BREAKS to boot!!!! How stupid can you be? Cheney, that evil s.o.b. has made BILLIONS through Halliburton, and not caring about the health of the Soldiers Marines, Airmen, and Naval personnel at all. CONTAMINATED water, electrocutions, coz the wiring was "jerry rigged"....these people want to do away with the BAKER-DAVIS ACT, which has to do with prevailing wages, giving wat unions that are left in this country a FAIR wage. That bill gets dumped, YOU will be assembling cars etc. for about $10 dollars an hour, paying ur own health care, thereby dismantling the unions, and the mid-class for good. WAKE UP OHIO!!!!!

Being angry at Bush is all well and good, I am too, but the real issue here is whether or not the information being disclosed for the court is secret or not. If it is then by all means Leonard should be prosecuted. The esponage act is incedibly important to national security. It is how we defended ourselves against the soviets during the cold war and how we now protect ourselves from the chinese, russians, and a number of terrorist states getting their hands on military and congressional secrets. Remember, not all government secrets are executive. What would happen if a foreign government had information on the various commitees in congress? The meetings held behind closed doors are behind closed doors for a reason. That said, based on Leonard's fued with Addington it does not seem to me that Leonard would lie about something not even being classified. In that instance an inquery on abuse of the power to make information classified should be held, and Leonard aquited.

Uh, excuse me, isn't revealing secrets called TREASON?

    • Posted By: jarcher1 @ 09/09/2008 9:44:59 PM

Actually its not. Treason is closely defined in the Constitution in Article 3 Sec. 3 as "Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying War against them, or in adhering to their Enemies, giving them Aid and Comfort. No Person shall be convicted of Treason unless on the Testimony of two Witnesses to the same overt Act, or on Confession in open Court." I don't think this rises to either occasion.

    • Posted By: randyg71161 @ 09/09/2008 7:35:50 PM

Not necessarily. Only in the case where national security is at issue. The president has the ability to classify meeting dialogue that he doesn't want the general public to discover. In fact, more than 50% of all state secrets have nothing whatsoever to do with national security, mostly political secrecy.

  • Posted By: clevelong @ 09/09/2008 9:30:24 PM

This is for sure selective threats for most likely something else this guy has done or will do. And as mentioned in the previous comments, this is nothing to do with national security but covering up criminal activity that could possibly get pelosi off her stubborn ass and go after w & dick. I would say for our democracy's sake that there needs to be a whole heap of transparancy of our 'secret' government. Air out all their dirty laundry.

  • Posted By: drocmor @ 09/09/2008 8:24:27 PM

All of the secrets start with bushy. Was everbody really satisfied with the texas air guard answers? Not me or or any of my vet buddies.23Oct72-15Oct75.I'm 54 now and would go now if I were asked

  • Posted By: cynric52 @ 09/09/2008 8:02:57 PM

Secrecy is stupid and the overwhelming amount of secrets are not about national security, but rather profit for an individual or to cover up and individual's crime. When something is secret people rightfully assume the worst. Government secrets do far more harm than good to our national security.

We need more government in the sunshine. I don't trust those guys up there running the government and making crucial decisions without the public's input. They could take us to a nuclear war without us having any input.

Wait??? didn't Cheney's office previously assert executive privilege, when refusing to honor Congressional subpoenas for testimony from Cheny's staff? And for the minutes of Cheney's closed-door meetings with oil industry executives when formulating national energy policy? The Cheney office is, in effect, a sovereign entity.
