Sarah Palin is not the issue. The issues are the economy, oil prices, the War in Iraq, Afghanistan,etc.,etc.. We need to stop the madness and stick to the issues. McCain made the same "lipstick on a pig" comment earlier about Senator Clinton's health care proposal. Why is it that when Senator Obama says it, it's considered sexist? The country is in trouble and there's no time for politics as usual, but that's what we get.

This is all that Newsweek has to write about? Now I know what is meant by "yellow" journalism! The media could use it's power to hold candidates accountable to their promises - but instead they choose to make a soap opera out of the democratic process - covering fluff and uncovering "dirt" to boost their ratings. Issues which truly effect our nation are not even discussed - and candidates are not strongly challenged on any faux pas. What a travesty the fourth estate has become! You might as well put up a "foreclosed" sign on journalists' conciences - because they have become morally bankrupt!

PART 1: How ironic. Our forefathers, my ancestors who were amongst the very first colonists and founders of this country and its government ( now ROLLING.. o SPINNING UNCONTROLLABLY ) in their graves ....came to this country for religious FREEDOM. That freedom not only freedom OF religion, it also embraced freedom OF religion. It is coming up on 375 yrs since the fleeing from England and other parts of Europe to AmericanAmerica.

In what is a relatively short amount of time in comparison to the rest of the world, our new nation has managed to BECOME everything our forefathers sought to escape, fought and died for and tried to change for the better.

IF the McCain/Palin ticket wins it will be Americans fleeing from AMERICA because of religious intolerance, bigotry, oppression and seeking refuge in truly progressive countries where THEISM has no part in government....namely EUROPE for the most part. We'll have come full circle.... escaping from oppression in Europe only to return to escape political/religious oppression in the US.

If these Taliban-mentality ZEALOTS get ahold of the highest offices in the land we are destined for social, political, environmental and financial ruin. Palin is clearly and undeniably INSANE and McCain clearly and undeniably incompetent. Both represent the utter hypocrisy of the religions they claim to represent. Serious.. if there WAS a Jesus.... WHAT WOULD JESUS DO ?? Would his life, actions and deeds mimic that of Sarah Palin ?? Of Grampy McSame ?? Can anyone honestly believe that EITHER of these two are CHRISTIANS ??? Is that what christians do ??? Lie, commit adultery, act on vendettas, sell their souls, put the importance of money and power over their 'god' ?? Does anyone actually think if there WERE a god... he would advocate and support their actions, lifestyles and ideology ?? I shudder to think he would and am taking a wild guess that the answer would be NO ? So why on earth are the mental morons in this country supporting them ?? TO BE CONTINUED ....

    • Posted By: Livingwithcommonsenseandreason @ 09/10/2008 4:22:47 PM

Part 2 : Does Palin deserve anyone's vote SOLELY because she's a religious nutcase who is PRO-LIFE ?? What about the other hundreds of IMPORTANT issues that affect the future of our country, our environment, our economy ?? Does anyone stop to think that everything else about her is corrupt and immoral ?? Just because she's waving a cross and spewing rhetoric, does anyone actually consider what the CONSEQUENCES of her actions will be.. for ALL of us ?? Funny... I don't recall ANYWHERE in the BIBLE where god commands us to save babies but gun down wildlife from helicopters and hunt for animals that aren't an absolute NECESSITY for our pure subsistance. Hunting for food when you have access to a supermarket is NOT an acceptable action. Hunting for food when you're stranded, starving and 1000 mi away from a supermarket and it will literally save your life is acceptable. In Sarah Palin's opinion god gave humans free reign to destroy everything he created BUT human life. Does anyone else find that horrendously SCARY ????

Unfortunately the mental midgets that comprise the majority of the Neo-con/Fascist Repug brigade, extremists and non-extremists don't have the foresight or intelligence to look or delve any further into anything that isn't right in front of their noses. They fail to realise that the stupid and uninformed, uneducated choices they make have repercussions for EVERYONE. Why can't they just live their own damned pathetic lives the way they want to and leave the rest of us to live ours the way we believe. Just who the hell do they think they are to impose their warped and twisted views on life on us ???

You think the other nations of the world hate us now ? Wait til these two get into office. We'll be the laughing stock of the industrialized world. We'll be branded a REGRESSIVE nation instead of a PROGRESSIVE one. We're already so far behind the EU and other nations on so many issues because of the close-mindedness and inability of the people in this country to accept change, take risks and look for new answers, solutions and to investigate for ourselves with open minds not biased by bullshit.

I could go on and on but frankly this whole thing is giving me an ulcer and a migraine. Come November I'd better have my passport in order because I can't trust the people in this country to do what's best for ALL Americans.... just the ones that like them, don't have 2nd thoughts about drinking the kool-aid. <sigh>

        • Posted By: heromommy @ 09/10/2008 5:57:52 PM

I think it's interesting that in your first comment you talk about freedom of religion and then in the second comment you blast Palin for her religious views. I'm sorry but you can't have it both ways.

"Deposed" (in this context) means subjected to a deposition. For those without a lot of legal background, that means responding to questions under oath in a formal setting, but not in a courtroom.

Palin's own state, "Anchorage Daily News" wrote an overall review of Palin's office. As an intelligent woman, she has done has some things very well, but she also definitely has some strong personal opinions of "what's right & what's wrong". Problem with that is that she likes to punish those wrongdoers herself. That's why we have a constitution & judicial system in this country. Palin is dangerous to women & to the US.

In case you all missed it, in his interview on CNN, the trooper admitted to tasering the boy, to drinking on the job, and to shooting the moose illegally.

    He should have been fired.

The headline here is very misleading. The only person the judge was warning was Palin's sister, not Palin.

Palin wasn't under the judge's jurisdiction, she wasn't a party to the case, and he couldn't order her to do anything.

Muluk Palin is as corrupt as Cheney and Bush. McCain is more corrupt than Bush, but what they all have in common is an uncommon ability to lie, and do it with a straight face. But what is so unnerving is how republicans in general love the lies. Websters Dictionary new definition for republican is liar, cheat and ***.

I know you think that every little bit will help Obama, but please. Why dont you run an article explaining how Obama is goin gto bring all this Change he is promising. Maybe undecided voters could actually decide. Im not going to vote for Obama foar Change sake, thats whet every single politician has been promising for hundresd of years.

Karl Rove's Electoral Map Favors Obama as Discussed on Fox news Sunday Morning (260)

Looking at Karl Rove's electoral map which was done by polling in all the states, Obama currently has (260 Electoral Votes) based on states that are solidly in the democratic column. You need 270 to be president.

The biggest changes since 2004 so far is that Obama now leads by double digits in two states that Bush won solidly in 2004. Those two states are New Mexico and Iowa which combined is an additional 12 points for the democrats and minus 12 for the republicans. Obama only needs 10 electorial votes out of the remaing 7 battle ground states which combined is 57 electoral votes.

looking at the electoral map, I would put most of my resources in Ohio, Virginia and Colorado if I were Obama. I say Colorado because if Obama some how lost both Ohio and Virginia, Colorado combined with any one of the remaining states would put Obama over 270. We all know Nevada is leaning democratic so Colorado and Nevada would do it. Colorado has to be in that state "combination mix" if Obama loses Ohio and Virginia because Colorado has 9 electoral votes. (just looking at the worst case scenario) If Obama wins either Ohio or Virginia, it would put Obama over 270. There are other combinations of Obama winning but it would require him to win alot more states which may be difficult to do. But because of Obama picked up Iowa and New Mexico, it has allowed him to be able to win the presidency without Ohio and Florida.

Keep in mind in most polls Virginia is tied. The state hasnt been this close in turning blue since the 1960s. Its a state in which the black vote could put Obama over the top in Virginia which would then give Obama the presidency.

with less than two month til the election we can now get a clearer sense who is likely to win. I tell people dont focus so much on national polls. Both the campaigns are focusing on the electoral map and where they are up in each state. The map favors Obama which is why McCain made such a bold move by picking Sarah Palin to energize the republican base. But I think its too little to late. Obama has a strong foundation laid in these battleground states and he has a good chance in taking Ohio. John Kerry loss Ohio in 2004 by 200,000 votes. If John Kerry had won Ohio, hed be president now. The Obama campaign has registered almost a million new voters in Ohio while republican voter registration has declined in the state. Do the math. Kerry lost by 200,000 votes and Obama has gain almost a million voters through a kind of aggressive voter registration campaign which won him his seat in the US Senate. But even though Colorado, Nevada and North Dakota are toss up states in the margin of error, all three are slightly leaning towards Obama. So this is a good sign for the Obama campaign.

He has the common sense to admit a mistake and try to get us out of there. McCain and Palin both think we should stay.

Let Caribou Barbie speak for herself. McCain no longer has the mind to, so we've given up on that. And I call her Barbie because that is how she is being treated by the republicans. I don't like her views, but don't doubt her intelligence. So let the woman speak and answer tough questions. If she can't stand up and discuss things with our press, how on earth can we expect her to handle any overseas challenges as VP? Or president, because let's face it, McCain is elderly and has had a tough physical life.

Stop babying her or admit she is unqualified.

        • Posted By: oneamerican @ 09/10/2008 3:31:59 PM

Apparently you are drinking the Obama Kool-aid. No one wants to stay in Iraq. If McCain was looking for a war, he obviously has other places to go where there is ample opportunity to kill bad guys. We have to stay in Iraq until they can fend for themselves. You all know that if we would have waited beofre going into Iraq, we would have looked like cowards to Al-Queda, and they would ahve attached us again. Sure, maybe in hindsight it didn't go exactly as planned, but if Hussein didn't have WMD, he was obviously in the process of getting them. Why do you think Germany didn't want japan to bomb Pearl Harbor - they knew the US entering the war would be bad news. We entered Iraq with all the evidence we had, and have been safe ever since.

          • Posted By: TheVigil @ 09/10/2008 4:46:31 PM

"We have to stay in Iraq until they can fend for themselves."

Most political science scholars agree that no modern democracy can exist without a sizable and relatively educated middle class. Iraq's middle and upper classes fled when the war started. Iraq doesn't even have a true "national" identity - it was a partition drawn up after World War II. Iraq actually had the most nationalism it had ever experienced under Saddam, dictator though he might have been. These days most "Iraqis" feel more connection to their ideological or cultural group, Sunni, Shi'ite, or Kurd, than they do to an "Iraqi" national identity. Iraq may *never* develop representative democracy, not as the borders are drawn up right now. People think that if we just stick around long enough, the people will see the benefits of wonderful modern democracy and go "Whatever were we thinking before?" It's not going to happen that way anytime soon, especially with civilian deaths by American troops numbering 100,000 or more.

Look at our own "wonderful" democracy - are we free from the kinds of partisan strife that's racking the country? Only in terms of violence. Republicans and Democrats are at each other's throats. Gangs and cops are in a perpetual war for control of our inner cities.

Wake up and smell the screaming, man. We need to fix our own problems before we foist "democracy" and capitalism on the rest of the world. As a matter of fact, our own energy problems are largely a result of greater world demand for oil now that a significant portion of it *has* adopted our own petroleum-based economy.

          • Posted By: msles59130 @ 09/10/2008 4:18:59 PM

The Obama Kool-Aid. I wish they did have it, then we could serve it to people like you and get on the road to fixing this country.

We did not attack Iraq because of 911, and even Bush didn't say that we did. We did it for WMD. And to rid Iraq of a dictator. There was NO evidence that Saddam was trying to acquire WMD, and any half-baked claims that he was have been thoroughly disproven. But Bush wanted his war, so took the focus from Bin Laden to chase down Saddam. He had to look tough, if you remember, after getting punked by China and letting the WTC and the Pentagon get blown up.

You need to use your brain. I am not even saying agree with me or Obama, or anyone else. Just stop watching fox news and read something and connect the dots. We are in this mess because of Bush and Cheney. Palin and McCain agree with them on average of 95% of the time between them . And you want 4-12 more years of this.

A 2nd grader with an unsharpened pencil could connect the dots and tell you that voting for McCain/Palin is stupidity, unless you absolutely love the state of our economy, foreign relations and energy situation right now.

          • Posted By: geewhiz @ 09/10/2008 3:43:55 PM

and apparently you bought all the Bush/Cheney lies and scare tactics too. It is disgusting that the American people were duped into something that has caused such an enormous amount of death and destruction...all due to Bush, et al, taking false information to the UN. People are unbelieveable. Everyone was afraid after 9-11 and when the media was told to shut up, they did and now look where we are. Why do you think Colin Powell walked out on the Bush administration.......he knew it was a lie.

This isn't what the candidacy is about. It's about NOT using smears like that. If you are planning to support Obama, you should work for the positive, not give in to the negative.

Obama said, "The one area where [Rezko] did have a political interest in Springfield that emerged - this is all pre-Blagojevich - was gaming. He was one of the minority investors in Rosemont. That's one area where he could have asked me for favors, but did not, partly because I was clearly on record as being opposed. I was a gaming opponent as [Sun-Times Springfield Bureau Chief] Dave McKinney will recall."

    http://www.suntimes.com/news/politics/obama/844597,transcript031508.article

But Obama did support gambling interests with his vote.

On Nov. 14, 1997, he backed legislation to permit riverboat casinos to operate even when the boats were dockside. The measure, pushed by the gambling industry and fought by church groups whose support Obama was seeking, passed with two "yeas" to spare -- including Obama's. He wasn't exactly up front with his constituency, telling a church group on a 1998 campaign questionnaire that he was "undecided" about whether he backed an expansion of riverboat gambling. The senator who led the opposition to the gambling measure, Republican Todd Sieben, said "He was obviously paying attention to this vote. It was a major, major issue in the state, and it was a long debate," Sieben said. "The inadvertent 'Oops, I missed the switch' -- I'd be kind of skeptical of that."

Obama is the unnamed "political candidate" referred to in a section of the indictment that accused Rezko of orchestrating a scheme in which a firm hired to handle state teacher pension investments first had to pay $250,000 in "sham" finder's fees (Note: he was found guilty). From that money, $10,000 was donated to Obama's successful run for the Senate in the name of a Rezko business associate, according to the court filing and the source.

Rezko, who was part of Obama's senatorial finance committee, also is accused of directing "at least one other individual" to donate money to Obama and then reimbursing that individual -- in possible violation of federal election law (Note: he was found guilty).

Obama donated more than $44,000 in Rezko-linked contributions to charity last year, including the $10,000 donation mentioned in the court filing.

That money was donated to Obama by Joseph Aramanda, a Glenview businessman and Rezko associate who, sources have said, is the ???Individual D??? prosecutors say received the $250,000 in finder???s fees demanded by Rezko. Individual D did nothing to earn those fees, according to prosecutors.

The $10,000 contribution to Obama was given in Aramanda???s name on March 5, 2004, records show. While Obama???s camp has said the senator did not know Aramanda, Obama???s office hired Aramanda???s son as an intern in 2005, at Rezko???s urging.

    From www.dallasobserver.com/2008-02-28/news/obama-and-me/

Several months before Obama announced his U.S. Senate bid, Jones called his old friend Cliff Kelley, a former Chicago alderman who now hosts the city's most popular black call-in radio program.

"He said, 'Cliff, I'm gonna make me a U.S. senator.'"

"Oh, you are? Who might that be?"

    "Barack Obama."

Jones appointed Obama sponsor of virtually every high-profile piece of legislation, angering many rank-and-file state legislators who had more seniority than Obama and had spent years championing the bills.

"I took all the beatings and insults and endured all the racist comments over the years from nasty Republican committee chairmen," state Senator Rickey Hendon, the original sponsor of landmark racial profiling and videotaped confession legislation yanked away by Jones and given to Obama, complained to me at the time. "Barack didn't have to endure any of it, yet, in the end, he got all the credit.

"I don't consider it bill jacking," Hendon told me. "But no one wants to carry the ball 99 yards all the way to the 1-yard line and then give it to the halfback who gets all the credit and the stats in the record book."
