Being engrossed by the beauty of a woman almost cost Solomn his life so I hope all those men who are drooling over Palin will take heed.

It's interesting that some of the support for the Democrats is being driven behind the fountain of knowledge they possess becuase of their higher education. Let's keep it in the classroom to be consistent. I have found that professors I have had that have never actually worked in the real world don't offer the same experience or utility in what they are teaching as compared with adjunct professors that actually hold down an job in their area of expertise as the same time. There's no better teacher than actually doing something. If the top guy on the ticket was only going to be responsible for arranging State dinners at the white house then I would agree that the Democrats are the way to go. If you want someone who has actually been responsible for making real decisions then I think you need to go with the Republicans. Voting Democratic in this case is like taking Marital and Family advice from your Catholic priest. There are certainly some things that may be relavant and helpful, but it's really all just theory and conjecture from their part becuase they have never actually lived it themselves.

Why then does the economy tend to do better under a democratic admistration. My investemnts have returned more with the democrats than the republicans.

      • Posted By: rooster83 @ 09/10/2008 3:56:39 PM

My comments in this specific case relate to the two candidates we are left with, not the overall parties in general, but if you think back regarding over the last 20 years about what has contributed to to your investment gains/losses they would probably be the following: 1990''s big tech boom that I'm guessing you credit to Al Gore for inventing the internet. Ok, but I think it's more that they just happened to be in office during that boom time and had little to do with initiating it. 2000's - Tech bust - They were still in office for the beginning so I guess you can either credit them for that as well or just chalk it up to them having just been there, just like the during the boom. 2001 - September 11. Plenty of evidence to show information was available under the Clinton administration that was never acted upon, so one could make the argument they are responsible for that stock market downturn, they just didn't happen to be in office at the time to be blamed for it. 2008 - Mortgage meltdown - take your pick - plenty of greed and lack of regulateion to go around for everyone I'm sure. There are plenty of scary people representing all of us on both sides, but if you look at it objectively we've got a pretty boy from Harvard that's not really had any kind of responsibility of any kind laid upon him vs. John McCain. Maybe not the best candidates that either side has to offer, but that's what we have.

I tell ya, this woman is dangerous.

  • Posted By: kirkmrtek @ 09/10/2008 3:01:33 PM

Obama or should we call him insane Husien, or how about Barry, no thats too white! Hes looking like a mad cry baby now that his lead is all gone. The way he did Hillary bynot picking her for VP is going to be the end of him and Hillary could not be happier, she can run again in 4 years and not 8. Since the conventin her and Bill have disappearedand Bill will probably tell Obama to attack Palin she is the key. Dont talk about the economy or the housing mess or gas prices, go after her on experience and being a woman that cant be president! The Clintons are loving this seeing Obama loose more and more lipstick wearing white women to McCain daily. He's getting desperate and he has the race card in hand and is going to play it the first time he can about anything. Palin was a brilliant play by the republicans, Obamas camp said theres no a man alive that McCain can pick for VP that has not said tons of bad stuff about McCain and they were ready to pounce on which ever one he picked. Well he tricked them and picked Palin who has never said anything about McCain and is a Woman and with what Barry already did to Hillary and the fact that her only weakness is experience, but she has more that Barry has, is just causing a serious problem for the Dems. She can attack them relentlessly and they can't fire back. Biden, what a horrible pick. Wasn't he supposed to be the attack dog for Obama? Is he still alive, I haven't heard anything about him or from him lately. If McCain wins this the Palin pick will be the greatest VP pick in history and Barry will be the sorriest choker in history. To Bill and Hillary, cheers and you were right again, Hillary was the most electable and Palin wouldof meant nothing had hillary been onm the ticket as VP or president. At least its entertaining now!

Thank you showing us how REPUBLICANS divide and conquer. Use the crocodile tears for Hillary and Bill and open old wounds. Emphasize his middle name as a scare tactic and that too is fading fast. The more you mention it the more it desensitizes the American public. I think the grade school saying 'that's my name don't wear it out' comes to mind.

If Cheney did not abuse his power Washington for 8 years, Palin using her power to get someone fire would not be as much as an issue as it is now. However we've already tasted the abuse of positional power for 8 years. Bush knew how effective that would be to get his way. McBush knows it too and he found his Cheney.

      Four more months!

    • Posted By: Bethany724 @ 09/10/2008 3:32:51 PM

It is with typical republicanism that you attack the person and not the issues. You are so ready with lies and propaganda to somehow support your warped sense of reality. It is unbelievable that republicans can actually think that the American people will swallow any of this swill. And for those that do, what goes around comes around - no one is safe. The Righteous Right will always get even. But only at the tax payers expense. When you take responsibility for the errors you are responsible-then you have the right to point out others. Isn't it said somewhere in the incredible Christian Coalitions good book. Those without sin throw the first stone.

Give it up Palin--when the questions get asked-and they will-your silence or stammering will be answer enough for 54% of the American people. And guess what folks--that will be more than enough win the election this Nov.

Somehow the more you republicans are wrong - the more personal the insults. Go figure.

He's andry and fighting back because McCain and Palin called him a child molester essentially. I would have called both of them a lot worse, and done with a photo of McCain looking at Palin's behind, as he so often does.

You people have nothing so you lie. It is sick. Why not have the candidates tell us what they are going to do for our country? Oh wait, that is because they have no plan for our country.

  • Posted By: kylekpate @ 09/10/2008 3:22:35 PM

This article seems to just be a small inight as to how the Palin family functions. This isn't the first article I've read that suggested Palin abuses power. There was a completely seperate case in which a man tried to sue Governor Palin for firing him on a "personal basis".

    • Posted By: Therese in NV @ 09/10/2008 3:33:00 PM

Of course, because we are only hearing "his side of the firing" it must be gospel. Right? A Governor in any State, termininates many employees for job related issues over the course of their tenor. This disgruntled employee was fired for what he calls "personal reasons." Which could have been anything from continued tardiness, mismanagement of job, inability to work cohesively in a team environment, etc. What really appears to be happening here are Democrats unable to deny Governor Palin's accomplishments; so they are trying to steer issues away from politics to petty issues.

      • Posted By: lilysdaddy @ 09/10/2008 3:48:44 PM

Actually this was big news in Alaska months before Palin was announced as a nominee. Palin's actions speak to her character. The cover up of her actions speak to her character.
We were looking into this and now that Palin has exploded onto the national scene, Republicans are sceaming "Witch hunt".
Palin ran on "transparent and open government". She told Alaskans to hold her accountable to a high standard. We are. If the Republicans are unhappy with that, that is fine with me.

It's unfortunate that Palin backers prefer to jump to conclusions about this case rather than examine the entire facts. THE FACTS state: A) Whooten provided the child a diminished "training" type taser at the child's begging to be tased. Dad Whooten is a training officer for the department. He gave in to the child's request to be tased, and the following day the child bragged to Grandpa what a big boy he is. These are the facts revealed during the AST investigation. The media keeps reporting this incident as if the father abused his child. That is false! As Obama sayys, you can't just make stuff up!

    • Posted By: azureblue @ 09/10/2008 3:47:27 PM

So the logic is "the child asked for it" and Wooten was bound to comply?!!! What sense does that make?!! You make even less sense!!

    • Posted By: HippyGrewUp @ 09/10/2008 2:56:23 PM

YOU'RE RIGHT..... IT IS unfortunate that Palin BASHERS prefer to jump to conclusions about this case rather than examine the entire facts. THE FACTS state: A) Whooten USED VERY POOR JUDGEMENT AND TASED A CHILD with a "training" type taser USED IN "TRAINING" at the child's begging to be tased. Dad Whooten is a training officer for the department., BUT LACKS THE PARENTING SKILLS TO SAY NO TO A CHILD WHEN IT COMES TO ENDANGERING A CHILD OR ELSE ENJOYS INFLICTING TEMPORARY PAIN. He gave in to the child's request to be tased, and the following day the child bragged to Grandpa what a big boy he is. These are the facts revealed during the AST investigation. The media keeps reporting this incident as if the father abused his child. That is false! AS LONG AS A MINOR CHILD ASKS FOR PAIN, HE SHOULD HAVE IT. As Obama sayys, you can't just make stuff up!

No problems with the budget process. Monegan had zero feedback on the budget for the Department of Public Safety. Monegan has a comprehisive study done on the future of the department. He got zero feedback. He was fired.
Monegan is a man of high integrity. He had no idea why he was fired, but there was pressure from the Palin administration to fire Wooten. I am curious what Monegan's replacement, Kopp, was given as marching orders. Kopp served for two weeks, then quit and was given a $10,000 severence pay after signing paperwork the he would not sue the state.
As we say her in Alaska - Fishy, Fishy, Fishy.

    • Posted By: rlb1961 @ 09/10/2008 3:47:01 PM

Monegan has already stated that no one ever ordered or even asked him to fire Wooten. The original conversation about Wooten after Palin was elected was at the request of the detail charged with protecting Palin, because he was viewed as a potential threat due to his verbal threats to the family.

It's amazing the justification that people will find to support a position. When you put aside personal favoritism and you look squarely at which candidate has demonstrated the ability to make sound decisions based on the facts at hand, which candidate shows the ability to lead our country to its former glory, which candidate can logically execute peace on our behalf; then nothing else need be said.

    • Posted By: marcelwawa @ 09/10/2008 3:46:39 PM

  • Posted By: starkgranger @ 09/10/2008 3:31:45 PM

I wonder how the headline would read if Sarah Palin had not asked the Commissioner to look into the drunken antics of this trooper? "Gov Palin Abuses Her Office To Protect a Former Family Member"

    • Posted By: Betty in Wichita @ 09/10/2008 3:41:58 PM

Actually, I doubt that's what the headlines would say. If you respect the integrity of the staff that has been hired to do their job, then you would understand that the job would have been done withou her interference. If she has to do everything, then it's hard to explain the role of government employees.

    • Posted By: lilysdaddy @ 09/10/2008 3:40:58 PM

Wah.....???? By not doing anything it would be an abuse of power??? Getting involved in firing a trooper is micro management. Let's see if I can make a semblence of the chain of command - Governor, Lt. Governor - Commissioner- Dep Commisioner - Colonel - Major - Captain - Lt. - Sgt. - Trooper.
It's only about nine steps away in the chain of command.
If Palin wanted to clean up the troopers, she should have. That would have been done at her level. Firing a trooper is at the level of a Sgt.

  • Posted By: notalefty @ 09/10/2008 11:54:29 AM

What if this guy really did threaten them? Did anyone ever think of that? And then let's think about abuse of power for a minute. Travel back in time to the Bill Clinton era. Anything come to mind. Papers suddenly appearing on a coffee table. Some guy suddenly DYING!!! Talk about abuse of power. Even after he is impeached, he won't leave. Give me a break.

    • Posted By: lav50 @ 09/10/2008 12:51:03 PM

We are not talking about the past Clinton Administration, we are talking about the Vice Presidential Nomination for this election. Shouldn't we learn from past mistakes? It sounds like what you're saying is, it's ok to continue corruption in politics, and that's why we need change.

      • Posted By: katykay @ 09/10/2008 3:37:47 PM

Touche! Thanks for reminding me! Yes, let us not forget the Clinton years and their deceit. There's no way you could compare them to McCain/Palin!

So Betty are you a nurse for Tiller the Killer there in Witchita? Is is all about killing babies for you folks? Just wondering since you had the snide post.

      • Posted By: Betty in Wichita @ 09/10/2008 3:34:48 PM

My question had nothing to do with that, I merely would like to understand the motivation of the EVANGELICANS.

A little thinning out will help the cause and provide a good meal. Thanks for the update and while I'm at it maybe it will be a Fee per Plate Breakfast but just in case I am going to send my $700.00 to the McCain/Palin campaign now.

Daughter pregnant, fires people that don't do what she says, does what she thinks is right, supports guns, off shore drilling and lies about things she has one, oh yeah, and a governor of a large land mass state. Does that sound just like George Bush except for the pregnant daughter.

Palin is by far the completely wrong choice for McCain. He has chosen her for reasons other than her less than spectacular record as running Alaska. She carries far too much baggage with her to be a VP, as well as far too little experience. She seems like a woman scorned and, as a VP, such emotions and behaviors are improper. She lacks in almost every field, and, in my opinion, is a crutch more than a second leg in McCain's campaign.

  • Posted By: Lee Holmes @ 09/10/2008 3:19:48 PM

I find it strange that there are those here[ostensibly Obama supporters],who make the curious claim that the mistakes[to put politely,Lies to put it more plain], of the MSM regarding Palin are not subject to refutation if the opposition opinions [or facts],come from ''rightwinged sources''[as opposed the the alleged veracity of the ''leftwinged or liberal sources''which we will get to in a moment]. Here then, are specific instances of untruths or incomplete stories regarding Palin distributed by a ''mainstream press'' which were verified by independant or non-partisan sources. This is critical to the discission.

The non-partisan VOLOKH Conspiricy, which is a discussion site for jurists, lawyers law professors, clerks and others in the legal community took issue with a Washington Post piece yesterday [repeated on NEWSWEAK],which inferred that Palin was going above legal limits in garnering state travel allowances while at her home outside of Juneau. At a minimum,it was an attempt by the Post,NEWSWEAK,and later KOS,which picked up on it,to create a story out of a non-story. Palin was vindicated by VOLOKH factchecking which found that her allowance reciepts were entirely legal, and were in fact less than her predecessor.[Murtkowski]. The Post is now under criticism for its shoddy journalism.

    www.volokh.com

The New York Times ran a story on Aug.29,2008 which placed Palin as the ''member of the Alaskan Independance Party''. The Times would not retract their story for ''a week and a day''even after being corrected by the states voting commissioner that released documents showing that Palin had been a registered Republican for the entirety of her voting life.

A reporter[Soledad] on CNN made the remark that Palin had ''decreased funding''to special needs /special education children. This untruth was uncovered by the non-partisan ANNENBERG PROJECT[University of Pennsylvania],FACTCHECK which provided evidence you may see elsewhere on NEWSWEAK that refutes CNNs position.

A bogus ''list of Palin-banned books''was circulated by THINK PROGRESS and DAILY KOS,both virulant leftwinged websites, and made its way as gospel even into these NEWSWEAK blogs. The very existance of this list was found to be fabricated by the aforementioned FACTCHECK.

The New York Times. The Washington Post. CNN. The very bastions of what is considered ''hard ''news which yet allowed unvetted dishonesty to flourish and take root before being uncovered. What else are they being dishonest about I wonder? How much faith is being placed in the ''Obama Airborne'' cartel of lawyers and other diggers now trolling through Palins history in Alaska that are based upon second-hand conjecture yet allowed to be published as ''news'' back in the Lower-48? The press is already paying a heavy price for their unabashed support of Obama .[you may view polls at GALLUP and the non-partisan PEW Center for People and the Press to see how low the press has fallen in the estimation of Americans]
