There is likely no merit in the ethics complaint against Governor Sarah Palin and Sarah Palin should not have to wait until her sister disappeared before she intervened. Even if there was any merit to the complaint one could argue convincingly that it would have been prudent for her to intervene in this case given the recent publicity regarding the disappearance and death respectively of the last two wives of former and now retired police Sergeant Drew Peterson in Bolingbrook Illinois a Chicago suburb, the apartment shooting deaths during a homecoming party last October of six young adults including the former girlfriend of a 20-year-old Crandon Wisconsin deputy and Crandon police officer Tyler Peterson who took his own life before his apprehension, the death of the nine-month pregnant girlfriend of convicted former Ohio police officer Bobby Cutts whose two year old son broke the case with the statement that mommy is in the rug, and the pending murder trial of Pennsylvania State Trooper and homicide investigator Kevin Foley for the stabbing murder of the soon to be dentist ex-husband of his live-in girlfriend that occurred two days before the effective date of the final divorce decree. Sarah Palin should not have to have waited until her sister disappeared before she intervened in the trooper case. In the Foley case, Pennsylvania Trooper Kevin Foley lived with the estranged wife of a dentist who was viciously stabbed to death and thrown through the window of his own home two years ago. Pennsylvania State Trooper Foley specialized in homicide investigations and allegedly had been quoted as repeatedly stating in a State Police barracks break room in front of other State Troopers and supervisors as wishing that the dentist ex-husband would be killed in a car wreck or would otherwise die. Reportedly, his fellow state troopers did not take his threats seriously although they told him to stop making the threats against the now deceased dentist. Remember also in the Drew Peterson case, there were 18 eighteen separate domestic disturbance calls to the Drew Peterson residence outside Chicago.

In the eighteen separate domestic disturbance calls to his home, Drew Peterson was never arrested or charged by his fellow officers with whom he worked. The only person ever charged by his fellow officers in all of Petersons domestic violence cases was his now deceased ex-wife. Any investigation into the conduct of her ex-brother-in-law trooper by his own department, the Alaska State Police and Pubic Safety Commissioner, should have been viewed with the same skepticism as the eighteen separate investigations into the conduct of Drew Peterson by his fellow officers. It clearly can be argued that the prudent course of action was for Governor Sarah Palin to intervene given the almost near universal blue wall of silence that often prevents investigation of police misconduct by their fellow officers, superiors, and even other outside law enforcement agencies.

We can't let our young people think we are liars. We need model families in the White House for our youth to see.

General Petraeus: Iraq Doesn't Lend Itself to Victory Slogan

McCain and the Republican Party are always touting the "Surge" & "Victory" and I for one am very Glad Patraeus made this statement...

Because it Dispells this Republican "Victory" Bull-Spit !!!

General David Petraeus will leave his post as commander of US troops in Iraq, taking over US Central Command. As the chief of Central Command, the four-star general will oversee the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

This week, General Petraeus discussed progress in Iraq and the possibility of victory. Check out these highlights from his interview with BBC, which airs tonight.

On whether US troops could withdraw from Iraq by the middle of next year: It's "doable."
On whether he will ever declare victory in Iraq:

"This is not the sort of struggle where you take a hill, plant the flag, and go home to a victory parade . . . it's not war with a simple slogan."

On his new role of overseeing Afghanistan at US Central Command: "The trends in Afghanistan have not gone in the right direction . . . and that had to be addressed." Afghanistan remains a "hugely important endeavor."

On progress made by the surge: Petraeus said that recent security gains were "not irreversible" and that the US still faced a "long struggle."

Provincial elections supposed to take place this year, but still waiting on parliamentary approval, will test stability in Iraq. If the Iraq war doesn't lend itself to the traditional notion of victory, how will the US know when it's time to leave?

to me both canitdates are decieving the american people about how they are going to take action to take care of the problems here. Besides neither have a plan of action because they are so busy backstabing each other and worried about finding diry on each other and their running mates that they don't have time to consentrate on the problems of the american people.

It is quite disconcerting that the GOP would introduce Sarah Palin as a tough, smart woman, yet essentially negate the whole image by showing that she is too weak and unintelligent to handle the media. If she is this tough, ???so-called??? hockey mom who is a ???pit bull in lipstick???, PROVE IT! Don???t deceive the public and then blame the media by saying that they are too hard on her (Since when did women become this weak? It is absurd). The media is not too hard on her, this was a tactic derived from the McCain camp to avoid tough interviews and hard questions which reveal what little understanding Sarah Palin really has about the position she is seeking. They are very dishonest! Did McCain receive the memo that she is a public official and this comes with HARD questioning? A tough candidate would have a ???BRING IT ON??? attitude, not a leave-me-alone attitude. She has neither proven her toughness nor shown her intelligence, yet she is asking to prove herself AFTER she is elected. This is a disservice to our country and also to the women all over the country who identify with the intelligence of other women, not some ???hockey mom??? quality. I do not question the fact that she does have SOME intelligence. However, she is simply not operating at the level required to lead this country ??? why should she not be required to come to the table ready to lead? Why must she be coddled and coached to the extent that she can not speak to anyone until she ???learns??? the job. Heck, in a July interview she indicated that she didn???t know what the Vice President does. That???s disturbing! For goodness sake, I am offended that she is not representing women as MORE THAN CAPABLE. I have no doubt that Palin will be ready at some point, perhaps in 10 years. But we are in trouble with her degree in Journalism and McCain???s graduate ranking at the bottom of his class at the Naval Academy ??? he was 895 out of 899. At least Obama has his intelligence and decision-making to fall back on: Harvard Graduate, law review, law professor, decision-maker in the Senate and the Illinois Legislature. In terms of women, look at Hilary Clinton, no one can deny that the woman is very smart academically ??? Georgetown law, political science, etc., Please tell me where Sarah Palin???s bachelors degree in Journalism fit in? What an insult! McCain should ashamed of himself for presenting a women and attempting to force a false identify with other women of this country based upon some ???tough mom??? image instead of perhaps a ???smart women??? image. I am sorry, why should we give her on-the-job training for the position of VP of the United States just because she is a woman ??? this is reversed sexism. It is a woman???s strength and intelligence that helps us to identify with one another and make us a force to be reckoned with ??? not some offensive and pathetic image of a woman who can not handle hard questions, perhaps because she is ???just a hockey?

It is a great pity how McCain went from experience to "trying to win at all cost". When the election is over and it's time to work, from where will his (hopeful) Vice draw her experience? Who will play the role of a mother to her baby boy and the rest? How can she be innocent of the charge?

Hmmmm, the comments from Obama's side sound much more intelligent! I think I'll vote for Obama. I don't like all these facts coming out about Palin. She's scary. We're hearing one lie after another, and the fact that McCain wasn't responsible enought to pick from so many other qualified running mates proves he's a loose cannon.

I wonder if Newsweek could take a brief break from their Palin attacks to look into the question as to whether Barak Obama really meant to agree with Bill O'Reilly in their recent interview, that Europe is weak and cowardly. Is Obama's response, "Right", just another Obama gaffe or did Obama make an international relations blunder by publically agreeing with a commentator's demeaning assessment of our allies?
