Comment: This is a domestic dispute regarding Palin's family sister and should not even be an issue in this election.

Child abuse, physical or emotional should be an issue EVERYONE is concerned about!

Ironic how most all the comments here focus on voters political views and none on the real subject here, CHILD ABUSE and in a lesser sense, abuse of power. From the tone of the comments, it seems most all are from men.

Umm. I dont know if anyone is picking this up but it appears that the young man who is standing beside Gov. Palin's daughter is not the biological father of the baby.

I dont know if anyone knows this but it appears that the young man standing beside Gov Palin's daughter at the convention is not the biological father.

It is clear that Palin and her husband misused their power and position. But I am even mre interested in why she lied about the Bridge to No Where and about accepting earmarks. The only maverick thing about her is that she isa woman. She is no reformer. If she were a male, shewould not be considered so unique.

We are a nation too easily impressed.

Maybe the only mistake Palin made was not standing up in front of the cameras and making it clear she was terminating the commisioner in charge of the Alaska state troopers for negligence in doing his job. His allowing a individual to remain a state trooper who, if the allegations are true, tasered a child, threatened to kill someone, drove drunk and violated the state's game laws appears to be a deriliction of the commissioner's duties and an affront to every law enforcement officer in America. It also seems that commissioner placed the public in danger by continuing to allow such an individual to carry a badge of authority and a firearm.

Obama supporters are getting upset, Obama's not the only one getting all the attention from the Media! People are excited about McCain's choice of V.P. Palin has brought new life to this presidential election and Obama's not liking this at all! Obama is looking tired and upset! The debates will be great, I can't wait!!!

    • Posted By: GirlOver45 @ 09/10/2008 7:17:54 AM

No, it's not about Obama not getting attention. It's more in line with caring about what happens to us over the next four years. McCain may need to be hit over his head with a 2x4 to see Palin as a problem, but not the rest of us. Even if Palin has the credentials to be VP she has ethical issues. Why would any sane mind put a person in the White House with all that baggage hanging over their head. McCain won't be affected, but trust me, the rest of us will be. Speak now, or forever hold your piece.

I have to agree on one point. Eloquent speaker and leader versus poison words. Well spoken leader versus attack dog. I won't miss a minute. The reason he is called a celebrity is that this is the only thing they can come up with. The last rock star was Bill Cinton (balanced budget). Obama/Biden for rockstar. Any good leader I have ever known motivates. That is not McOld ideas. Just keep attacking the fact that he is a leader, LoriW is the only one buying it.

        What do I see?

I see a smooth talking ex-pole dancer biker chick with long sleeves covering her tats ... A perfect representative for the mouth breathing authoritarian enabler crowd.

And now she's dancing on the stage of the America right.

Yep. The "Moose Whisperer" came out of nowhere and was a big surprise. She has the Alaska "cool factor".
She is the flavor of the month. You know. Like the "Simpson's Movie" and "Into the Wild".
I live in AK and love my state, but, c'mon people, get over it.
Take a GOOD LONG look at the reports coming out on her and tell me what you see.

The one thing Palin should have done was stand up in front of the cameras and make it clear she was firing the commissioner for negligence and deriliction of his duties in his job as head of the Alaska state troopers. Apparently Todd was CC'ed on all Sarah's official emails as Governor, too. It's part of the whole ethics investigation...

In response to " igmatas " below. I work in DV as a counselor in a shelter, and it's my opinion that both Whooten AND the Palin family are abusive. Whooten sounds like a classic abuser, but the sheer volume of accusations from the Palin family, YEARS after the fact, raise serious red flags. If you read the 2005 email that Sarah wrote, it becomes obvious she was out to destroy him, not protect her sister.

    .

After reading this story, I think the questions that needs to be asked are,

"What in the world was Todd Palin doing sticking his nose into state personnel matters???"

Were the Palins running the state administration as a tag team?

    Who voted Todd into office?

As a private citizen and family member, he certainly had the right to complain about Wooten and there are channels for that. But why did he go directly to Monegan? Where did he get that idea? How involved was Todd in the day-to-day running of the Alaskan state administration?

If you want a scandal, I think this is where you'll find it.

Palin and her family got pissed at the man who abused her sister, They looked to kick some trooper ass. Do you think red neck Walmart women, who will probably swing this election, will identify with Palin's behavior? Let me give you a big hell yes! And the more the panicked Obama crowd tries to talk Palin down about this, the higher up they will drive her numbers with this key demographic grooup. Palin is like fire on the backs of Obama/BIden. They are paniced by her flames and are running around by running their mouths. Hence, they are only fanning the flames. Instead, they need to remain calm and roll as they did at the beginning of Obama campaign by concentrating on issues. Obama is moving into identity politics with Palin. There's nothing ethically wrong with him do so. But, if he takes on Palin on anything besides issues, he will be a net loser of voters. He will not be advancing his cause by getting into a clash of personalities with an attactive, clever and articulated white woman who has in a flash of time gained the affection and adoration of tens of millions of white women. If he does, believe me, lipstick will be coming off, and blouses will be rolled up to where you can see the tats,

    • Posted By: GirlOver45 @ 09/10/2008 7:00:19 AM

You may be right to a point. A pig with lipstick is the same thing as dressing up a bad policy. Palin says what the hell in all she wants, to whom she wants and the big crowd gets a laugh. She'd love to make Obama and Biden look weak in the eyes of the public. I say, equal punch for equal pay. She doesn't care what she says, why she they allow her to make them look weak, while she sets the old Maverick on high. Only a White woman in a America can get away with something like this. Had Michelle Obama continued on the attack of her opponents as she has, no one would fend for her. America sees what it wants. If she wants to be respected she should give respect. If she wants to pull punches like a man, she should take it like a man. If she wants equal pay, we should expect she can take equal punch. Enough of the protective stuff.

What if the trooper really is doing the things he is accussed of? Could this be a case where a bully cop is being called out? And everyone is living in "mayberry land"- not believing a cop could be bullying his family? He killed that moos. H edoes not believe all laws apply to him. Bullys alwa, always go after the victims when accused.

    • Posted By: GirlOver45 @ 09/10/2008 6:47:20 AM

Please let's not rewrite the story. Newsweek has done the research for you so that you don't have to speculate on it. All of the allegactions were old by the time Palin took office. Trooper Wooten had aready been pushed with a 5 day suspension from work without pay. When Palin took office in 2006 as Gov she started to push for his dismissal after a Judge had already warned her not too. Clearly trying a man twice for the same crime is called Double Jeopardy. Had Palin studied law she might have known that.

According to a blog out of Alaska the "streets of Alaska are litered with Palin's casualties." She just got caught this time doing what she has always done, firing someone without just cause. This behavior is indicative of her. It was time she got put on notice. That's why she doesn't need to be promoted to VP of this Great! nation. We don't need anymore domestic casualties.

This whole thing sounds suspiciously like another case of parental alienation. This insidious form of child abuse is less visible than physical abuse but equally as damaging. Kudo's to the judge for seeing it for what it was and shame on all those who took part in it (and probably continue to). The real vicitms here are the children - as always.

  • Posted By: igmatas @ 09/10/2008 6:16:28 AM

After seeing something very similar in my family, I'm on the Governor's side. I'm amazed the State Trooper's department did anything, as usually they rally the wagons with the union. Shame on Newsweek for taking the side of the abusive spouse. Shame on Mr. Wooten.
PS. I wish I had the chance to disparage the policeman in my case, but I was only 12.

  • Posted By: juliandroms @ 09/10/2008 6:10:16 AM

It's extremely commonplace for mothers and their biological relatives to disparage fathers with their employers at the time of divorce. This happens all the time. Of course, it's horrible behavior, but I wonder why Newsweek only takes this seriously and reports on it (without it's usual bias for mothers and against fathers)?
