In my opinion this case is about Domestic Violence/Domestic Harrassment, and Sarah had every right to defend her family against it. All to often women and their families are attacked by the violators, and the police do nothing about it. This sometimes results in the death of the woman, or disruption of the whole family. Police often are reluctant to get involved, and give the violators slaps on the wrists. I for one applaud her for addressing the issue, especially when she had the power to do so

It's not just that, sukkie. It's also about getting the full support of state employees as Governor, and the incredible attitude of some macho men and women too, to having a woman for a boss.

    Barack Obama 109th Congress

Obama took an active role in the Senate's drive for improved border security and immigration reform. In 2005, he cosponsored the "Secure America and Orderly Immigration Act" introduced by Sen. John McCain (R-AZ). He later added three amendments to the "Comprehensive Immigration Reform Act", which passed the Senate in May 2006, but failed to gain majority support in the U.S. House of Representatives. In September 2006, Obama supported a related bill, the Secure Fence Act, authorizing construction of fencing and other security improvements along the United States???Mexico border. President Bush signed the Secure Fence Act into law in October 2006, calling it "an important step toward immigration reform."

Senate bill sponsors Tom Coburn (R-OK) and Obama discuss the Coburn-Obama Transparency Act. Partnering first with Sen. Dick Lugar (R-IN), and then with Sen. Tom Coburn (R-OK), Obama successfully introduced two initiatives bearing his name. "Lugar-Obama" expands the Nunn-Lugar cooperative threat reduction concept to conventional weapons, including shoulder-fired missiles and anti-personnel mines. The Lugar-Obama initiative subsequently received $48 million in funding. The "Coburn-Obama Transparency Act" provides for the web site USAspending.gov, managed by the Office of Management and Budget. The site lists all organizations receiving Federal funds from 2007 onward and provides breakdowns by the agency allocating the funds, the dollar amount given, and the purpose of the grant or contract. In December 2006, President Bush signed into law the "Democratic Republic of the Congo Relief, Security, and Democracy Promotion Act," marking the first federal legislation to be enacted with Obama as its primary sponsor.

As a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Obama made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. In August 2005, he traveled to Russia, Ukraine, and Azerbaijan. The trip focused on strategies to control the world's supply of conventional weapons, biological weapons, and weapons of mass destruction as a first defense against potential terrorist attacks. Following meetings with U.S. military in Kuwait and Iraq in January 2006, Obama visited Jordan, Israel, and the Palestinian territories. At a meeting with Palestinian students two weeks before Hamas won the legislative election, Obama warned that "the U.S. will never recognize winning Hamas candidates unless the group renounces its fundamental mission to eliminate Israel." He left for his third official trip in August 2006, traveling to South Africa, Kenya, Djibouti, Ethiopia and Chad. In a nationally televised speech at the University of Nairobi, he spoke forcefully on the influence of ethnic rivalries and corruption in Kenya. The speech touched off a public debate among rival leaders, some formally challenging Obama's remarks as unfair and improper, others defendin

OMAAR forgot to add that it was during this 109th Congress, that Obama and Biden voted twice to allocate earmark funding for the ''bridge to nowhere''.

OBAMA AND BIDEN NEVER SAID THEY WERE COMPLETELY AGAINST EARMARKS...

YOUR MAN, JOHN MCCAIN HAS MADE HIS A PLATFORM...

OBAMA AGREED TO WITHDRAW EARMARKS VIA A SENATE VOTE ALONG WITH MCCAIN AND THE MAJORITY IN THE SENATE VOTED TO KEEP THEM, BECUSE THEY HELP THE 50 STATES.

BUT ITS YOUR CANDIDATE WHO IS THE "EARMARKS-PROK BARRELL QUEEN OF THE FROZEN TUNDRA"

PS: EARMARKS ARE NOT AN ISSUE, ITS JOHN MCCAIN'S POLITICAL PLATFORM, TO MAKE HIMSELF LOOK LIKE HE'S CONCERNED WITH WASTEFUL SPENDING, WHEN HE'S NOT AND HE KNOWS THAT EARMARKS & PORK BARRELL SPENDING IS HERE TO STAY, ANYWAY !!

MCCAIN TOLD G. STEPHONOPOLIS HE WOULD STOP OIL BARONS FOR NOT SHARING THEIR WEALTH, "BY SHAMING THEM" WAS MCCAIN'S REPLY...HA !!!

HE'S SO FULL OF IT, YOU CAN SMELL IT A 1000 MILES AWAY !!!

HIS RESPONSE SHOULD'VE BEEN, BY MAKING IT FEDERAL LAW THAT WILL SHARE THE WEALTH WITH THE AMERICAN PEOPLE. THAT THEY WILL TAXED AT A MUCH HIGHER RATE. NOT "SHAME THEM TO DOING SO"

HELL, THEY WERE NOT ASHAMED FOR GLOATING ABOUT THE RECORD QUARTERS, THEY HAD THIS YEAR, NOR THE RECORD PROFITS, THEY HAVE, OPPOSED TO CONCERNING THEMSELVES WITH THE HIGH PRICE OF GAS THIS SUMMER...HUH

THEY COULD CARE LESS ABOUT JOHN MCCAIN EXPOSING THEM OR SHAMING THEM...

THEY WILL NOT SHARE IN THEIR OIL PROFITS !!

        • Posted By: Lee Holmes @ 09/11/2008 3:38:33 PM

A lame rationale OMAAR,and I called you on it. Palin [or Alaska],would have never gotton the funding for the ''bridge to nowhere'' had not those responsible for this funding[meaning: Congress and not state executives, meaning:Obama and Biden],not voted for the money to begin with. And when they had the chance to back out under the objections of waste by both Coburn AND McCain,[both Republicans] they chose not to. We scratch Stevens back,he scratches ours. Careful OMAAR. In a trice,I can produce Senate votes by Stevens, that backed a Biden or Obama earmark that came AFTER the ''bridge to nowhere''. If you care to pull your smokepole, just try it.

It's amazing how quickly republicans change their standards. You elected G W for two terms. He has a past full of drug abuse, alcoholisim, and draft dodging (plus it's clear to all that he is not very smart and has never been a good leader). Now all of a sudden your concerned about experience, morals, and communication styles.

I would not want to take the chance that Sarah Palin could become president. I can't beleive anyone would. She has only been on the national scene for two weeks and there is already enough reasons not to consider her.

I can't support a party who would support anyone. If Mickey Mouse was Pro-Life and promised to lower taxes, you would support him.

Joe Biden secured five Vietnam War draft deferrments. Obama,as self-reported in his memoirs, already admitted to using drugs. Forget ''honesty''under the Democrats. The Chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee,Charles Rangel,is under a federal investigation for fraud and corruption.

You never ever read do you Mr. Holmes. 18-of-19 fact-check for Mr. McCain shows he just lies. ABC and even right-leaning USA Today say he just lies. Today. Right now. Always.

I read well enough to dispell the above persons nonsense. Pass to ''lying'' and what we are seeing is bucketloads of it by both candidacies and their puppets[especially,Obamas, since he has most of the press in the tank for him as it is FACTCHECK has done yeomans work in getting to the bottom of the lies of the press, and the dishonesties of both McCain and Obamas campaigns]. This said,USA TODAY,is not ''leaning''anything. It allows both leftwinged and conservative editorialists to air their gripes.

    • Posted By: benluclar @ 09/11/2008 11:38:55 AM

Yes, George Bush was not a good President. I did not vote for him either time because he had a record of always believing he was right, even when he was wrong, and would never admit a wrong.
But Mickey Mouse is not running this year, sadly, so I must make a choice with which I can hope will impact what is important to me.
Choice one: A capable man with a green rookie at his side who both believe in God, as do I. His liability is his age, as so pointedly discussed, and whom everyone is basing judgment on the second chair's capability to lead.
Argument for one: the second chair rookie would be sitting in the wings, inputting and learning by a capable mentor, should the need arise and has shown what I consider to be strong convictions.
Choice two: A green rookie with a capable sidekick, who is only second chair and who has a liability of age and who has valued input, but nothing to learn, only to teach, and without credit for himself, but, instead for glory of the rookie.
Argument for two: he has the asset of age, which indicates longevity, but is greener than grass and golder than brass and has a bird in the bush to accept credit for his token position of real capability.
Mortality does not escape the old. Mortality does not escape the young.
Which is the better choice in the position of choice before us?
      You decide.

Karl Rove's Electoral Map Favors Obama as Discussed on Fox news Sunday Morning (260)

    Polls can't Help McCain's Old Semi-Senile A!! Out Now !!!
    -------------------------

Looking at Karl Rove's electoral map which was done by polling in all the states, Obama currently has (260 Electoral Votes) based on states that are solidly in the democratic column.

You need 270 to be president.
    -------------------

The biggest changes since 2004 so far is that Obama now leads by double digits in two states that Bush won solidly in 2004.

Those two states are New Mexico and Iowa which combined is an additional 12 points for the democrats and minus 12 for the republicans.

Obama only needs 10 electorial votes out of the remaing 7 battle ground states which combined is 57 electoral votes.

looking at the electoral map, I would put most of my resources in Ohio, Virginia and Colorado if I were Obama. I say Colorado because if Obama some how lost both Ohio and Virginia, Colorado combined with any one of the remaining states would put Obama over 270.

We all know Nevada is leaning democratic so Colorado and Nevada would do it. Colorado has to be in that state "combination mix" if Obama loses Ohio and Virginia because Colorado has 9 electoral votes.

(Just looking at the Worst case scenario)

If Obama wins either Ohio or Virginia, it would put Obama over 270.

There are other combinations of Obama winning but it would require him to win alot more states which may be difficult to do.

But because of Obama picked up Iowa and New Mexico, it has allowed him to be able to win the presidency without Ohio and Florida.

Keep in mind in most polls Virginia is TIED.

The state hasnt been this close in turning blue since the 1960s.

Its a state in which the Minority vote could put Obama over the top in Virginia which would then give Obama the Presidency.

with less than two month til the election we can now get a clearer sense who is likely to win.

I tell people dont focus so much on national polls. Both the campaigns are focusing on the electoral map and where they are up in each state.

The map favors Obama which is why McCain made such a bold move by picking Sarah Palin to energize the republican base.

But I think its too little to late.

Obama has a strong foundation laid in these battleground states and he has a good chance in taking Ohio.

John Kerry loss Ohio in 2004 by 200,000 votes. If John Kerry had won Ohio, hed be president now.

The Obama campaign has registered almost a million new voters in Ohio while republican voter registration has declined in the state.

    Do the math.

Kerry lost by 200,000 votes and Obama has gain almost a million voters through a kind of aggressive voter registration campaign which won him his seat in the US Senate.

But even though Colorado, Nevada and North Dakota are toss up states in the margin of error, all three are slightly leaning towards Obama. So this is a good sign for the Obama campaign.

Good thing you mentioned John F. Kennedy and Bill Clinton, Omaar.

(Up to now) Senator Obama's behaviour has been far better than either of those two's ;)

Though I would seriously suggest to him, to focus on upgrading his Moral education, to form rock-hard Principles and not be caught out making comments like "(issue) above my paycheck".

Only a Republican would say that they KNOW when life begins. Arent you the ones that believe that man walked with the dinosaurs and that God created the universe in 7 days? You may try to accuse Sen Obama of having a " messiah complex " but your party is the one that needs to look in the mirror and realise that it has nearly destroyed this nations economy and cerdibility. Be carefull what you ask for, you may get 4 more years.

It sounds like Palin and Husband was or is determined to ruin the trooper: Were they so close to him that they feel the lost in a divorce. I think maybe they want to damage his credibility before he starts talking to the press. Palin claimed that the trooper said he would bring down the family: Why would they take that seriously, unless he really does have that power over them? Well, I think if he does gets fired, he'll have to do something for income... Maybe a tell-it-all book...

I find it quite funny how liberals have quite short memeories. Let's compare Arkansas Trooper Gate VS Alaska Trooper Gate. Arkansas, used to escort prostitutes for Bill Clinton in the Govenors Mansion, used to rough up and kill Clinton enemies--Clinton's Body count appears to be higher than John McCain's Vietnam body count.
Now Alaska, firing a rogue state trooper who used a state issued Taser to Taser his 10 year old step-son as a form of discipline, drunk while on duty, and poaching.
This uproar by democRATS proves, democRATS are for child abuse, child molestation, and killing children.
Now speaking of Prostitutes, let's take a look at PimpDaddy Barrack Bin-Liberals; we have $20,000,000.00 Hillary Clinton, who sold out her convictions, Oprah Winfery, that Foul Fowler woman who PimpDaddy Barrack had slapped around for speaking out of line about Palin's qualifications compared to his, which makes me wonder; Is Barrack qualification is he did not pay for an abortion, (the women he knocked up),he had the government pay for it through some welfare health program? Is that his only qualification he has for President?

Give me someone like Madeline Albright or Margaret Thatcher and I'd be all for the old girl.

Obama is far more fertile and intelligent than Ol' John anyday.

Unfortunately, it's a young person's world and we need a current leader, not some recycled old verteran tootin' his own horn. Palin is just too far removed from where she would need to be to be a good leader.

A good mother does not a good president make.

  • Posted By: Is_it_just_me @ 09/11/2008 10:26:02 AM

What a garbage article. It concludes without stating the facts, that a corrupt police agency has circled the wagons agound a person who admitted child abuse, has numerous reports of threatening and abusing cittizens, threatening what was then a local Mayors family members with harm, reprimanded for dereliction of duties and crimanal misdemeanors and possibly felonies while on State Police business, and who at least once had to have a restraining order placed against him. The entire upper echelon of the Alaska State Police would seem to need to resign and the legislature put through a character and ethics policy for persons armed by the state while charged with protecting all citizens. Clearly this trooper was not properly disciplined and that demonstrates a need for the Gov. to address the issue to the appointed head of that organization and demand a response, policy changes, and legislative proposals to ensure that corrupt officials, even low level troopers, are held to high standards of personal conduct on and off the job.

    • Posted By: lilysdaddy @ 09/11/2008 12:31:01 PM

I agree completely. Couple of problems though with your logic.
The trroper was punished under the old administration and old Commissioner, so you could not fire the leaders for that. They were already gone. Palin and Monegan came in fresh to the problem.
Palin had no care what-so-ever to fix the trooper problem. She took no steps to clean up the troopers. That would have actually made her what she claims to be - A person cleaning up government.
Palin was focused on one thing - Firing Wooten.
When Palin was caught with her hand in the cookie jar, she lied and has been trying to circle her wagons and cover it up from day one.
