Barack Obama: Not just a "Charismatic Speaker"

Obama has the Education, like John F. Kennedy & Bill Clinton, before him, to back it up.

A graduate of Columbia University and Harvard Law School, where he served as president of the Harvard Law Review, Obama worked as a community organizer and practiced as a civil rights attorney before serving in the Illinois Senate from 1997 to 2004.

He taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School from 1992 to 2004. Following an unsuccessful bid for a seat in the U.S. House of Representatives in 2000, he announced his campaign for the U.S. Senate in January 2003.

After a primary victory in March 2004, Obama delivered the keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in July 2004. He was elected to the Senate in November 2004 with 70% of the vote.

As a member of the Democratic minority in the 109th Congress, he helped create legislation to control conventional weapons and to promote greater public accountability in the use of federal funds.

He also made official trips to Eastern Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. During the 110th Congress, he helped create legislation regarding lobbying and electoral fraud, climate change, nuclear terrorism, and care for returned U.S. military personnel.

Well we must all agree that Obama has done "something" albeit absolutely nothing to brag about, but why does literally everyone (including the Obama camp) keep comparing his experience with Sarah Palin's (a Vice-Presidential candidate)? Maybe he's just running for the wrong office?

    Ethics Adviser Warned Palin
    About Trooper Issue

    Letter Described
    Situation as 'Grave,'

    Called for Apology

ANCHORAGE, Alaska -- An informal adviser who has counseled Gov. Sarah Palin on ethics issues urged her in July to apologize for her handling of the dismissal of the state's public safety commissioner and warned that the matter could snowball into a bigger scandal.

    Associated Press

Alaska State Trooper Mike Wooten (right) answers questions about the 'Troopergate' investigation on Tuesday.

He also said, in a letter reviewed by The Wall Street Journal, that she should fire any aides who had raised concerns with the chief over a state trooper who was involved in a bitter divorce with the governor's sister.

In the letter, written before Sen. John McCain picked the Alaska governor as his running mate, former U.S. Attorney Wevley Shea warned Gov. Palin that "the situation is now grave" and recommended that she and her husband, Todd Palin, apologize for "overreaching or perceived overreaching" for using her position to try to get Trooper Mike Wooten fired from the force.

Mr. Shea was acting on his own in writing the letter, with no official capacity. In late 2006, Gov. Palin asked him to co-write an ethics report for Gov. Palin with then-House Democratic leader Ethan Berkowitz that recommended new financial-disclosure rules for elected and appointed officials in the statehouse. That report served as a key document for the ethics bill she later signed into law.

Read the letters from Wevley Shea to Gov. Palin and her aides. After his initial letter in July, Mr. Shea followed up with another letter, dated Aug. 4, in which he told Gov. Palin that she probably couldn't legally shun a legislative investigation into the firing of Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan.

Gov. Palin has taken the opposite tack, hiring a private attorney to advise in a matter that has become known as "Troopergate." Seven Palin administration employees have refused to meet with the independent investigator. The McCain-Palin campaign has argued that the state legislature has no right to look into the matter. Palin spokesmen say the state personnel board is the appropriate investigative body, setting up a showdown between the state's legislative and executive branches.

The McCain-Palin campaign referred comment on the letters to the governor's office, which confirmed receipt of them. "While we can't always act on every idea, Gov. Palin thanks Mr. Shea for his counsel," Sharon Leighow, the governor's deputy press secretary, said in a statement.

Members of the House and Judiciary committees overseeing the probe -- which lawmakers want wrapped up by early October -- meet Friday to consider issuing su

Of course, there is no way of knowing for certain if Wooten has actually done any of the things the family has accused him of. One must take seriously that none of it has been proven either to the court or to internal investigations of the police. Given the strange and elaborate claims by Gov. Palin surrounding the birth of Trig and the repeated, persistent and proven lies Palin has been repeating in her speeches, I have a strong suspicion that Wooten may not have done what has been claimed.

Repeating the demonstrably false Swiftboat-style slander about Obama's religion discredits your posts. Also, and I mention this just to help you craft a more persuasive message - your screen name implies that you may be more-than-ordinarily credulous, willing to believe anything that fits your worldview, regardless of facts. To me, it implies that you may lack the intellectual bent to analyze the source of the smear campaign, or their vested interest in promoting that which we know to be untrue.

Has it ever occurred to you that an enthusiastically-elected Democratic
Congress has done nothing this last year? What have they proposed to
help the multiple crises in America? What stand have they taken in unison
    to perpetuate change?
If Obama would somehow get elected and we have not only a Democratic
Congress, but a Democratic President,, and one who the DNC is so busy
kissing the ... of, can you only imagine what he could ask for and they would
    actually approve?
Where would the balance be? Would there be any?
This golden boy could ask that every household be only allowed one baby
by law and the DNC would go along with it, and with a smile.
I can't imagine what people are thinking to have the whole country nothing
but liberal democrats in every administrative capacity of America.
Disaster from incompetence would only be outweighed by the disaster from
political correctness. Nancy Pelosi is giddy over Obama, as are her cohorts.
They believe they are offering up the highest example of their fair and equitable
judgment. And what has she done in her position which she was overwhelmingly
awarded for the millions and millions of us who ran to the polls to make ''change''
in the White House because she was so vocal and outspoken way back then?
Liberals do not make our lives easier. They just tell us they will. They take God out
of your school programs and allow drug-using, abusive parents to have their children
back out of foster care after they have beaten and cigarette-burned them because it is
the ''fair'' thing in their opinions to do. And then they support these people for life. I know.
I am a foster parent for these poor children, who have no chance in life. Because the 'fair'
thing to do would be to allow them to be adopted by caring and WORKING parents who
    would love them.
Instead, the LIBERALS return these children from loving foster homes to the druggie
BIOLOGICAL parents so they can burn and abuse them until the next time.
Is this what you want? Does this seem fair to you? Do you want TOTAL LIBERALS
to run your life and that of your own loved children in their future?
I see this every day. If nine out of ten people live among each other in reason and
ONE of them has a problem with it, the LIBERALS reverse by mandated regulation
    that the ONE will prevail.
We cannot survive this way. There has to be some checkpoint for balance.

Obama is obviously a very charismatic speaker. He has a special talent which allows him to spew a lot of promises without any solid foundation to support it and make people want to believe it (this same ability continues to keep car salespeople working). The thing I can't understand is how so many American people (thank the great Lord the numbers are diminishing) are in awe of a guy with so many promises and no clear cut plans on how to deliver results.

It is blatently obvious, in view of the turn of events over the last week, that Obama can't even control his own party. How could he possibly control congress, the house, or the international arena. Here's a news flash... Obama is a FAD (like a Furby in so many ways) and NOTHING MORE.

We as Americans have two choices: Wake up and elect a real leader, or start learning a foreign language soon... I would suggest Russian or Chineese!

    • Posted By: J.Richter @ 09/11/2008 9:28:26 AM

Actually, he has clear plans to deliver those problems and they are very detailed. The PROBLEM is folks do not want to study anything but prefer to consume information and conversation from emails, news sites (which do not detail policies), partisan, and worse smear and fringe websites.

Take education for instance, we keep hearing this guy has done nothing (in 11 years of elected public service) but tidbits keep coming out, like in Republican Gordon Smith from Oregon ad highlighting his bipartisan work with Obama or this:

In another part of the advertisement, Mr. McCain maintains that Mr. Obama???s sole achievement in education was the sex-education bill. In reality, Mr. Obama not only helped administer a $49 million education project in Chicago in the 1990s, but also sponsored or co-sponsored measures that increased the number of charter schools in Illinois, and expanded federal grants to summer school programs and to historically black colleges.
      http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/26649779/

This is apart from bill and work on nuclear proliferation with Republican Lugar of Indiana, ethics reform bill with REpublican Tom Coburn, work on behalf of wopunded soldiers who used to pay part of their way at Walter Reed. We may be truthful and say we dont find this enough but to say it is nothin demans us, our politics, and those impacted. I have also noticed the trend that most people hear what they want and is sometimes a personality or background thing or a function of what was first heard about this initially less well known person.

Politics and the republican party will do any thing to win and I mean anything!! Look where we are now, and how can we survive another President as out of touch with the people of this country. Remember that blank look on Bushs' face on 9/11. I see it on McBush's face. If you say the same thing over and over long enough people begain to believe what they hear if it is a lie. It would be sad to ge stuck with Mccain and palin. I can't figure how one can lie in breath and speack of God the next. THE REPUBLICAN DO IT WELL THOUGH. What a disgusting
Everyone knows that judicial warnings (as well as orders of protections) are issued by judges in this country like candy.
Disparaging and perjury is a usual tactics in child custody battles.
The problem in this country is that judiciary tend to mess too much in family deals.
Judiciary and prosecution need to concentrate on fighting perjury instead of messing with family matters.

Whatever is written in this article is just sad - no source can say whether Palins or the trooper are bad people. One thing is sure - the system is broken and lawyers make tons of money from it.

Maybe someone can explain to me why Newsweek is becoming
impossible to open or comment about or maneuver around the

that are making it virtually impossible to function within.
I have high-speed internet, I am a seasoned user. What is going on?
Thre is no trouble with other viewings, just this Newsweek page.
Is anyone else having trouble, other than the double-postings which are constant?

Karl Rove's Electoral Map Favors Obama as Discussed on Fox news Sunday Morning (260)

    Polls can't Help McCain's Old Semi-Senile A!! Out Now !!!
    -------------------------

Looking at Karl Rove's electoral map which was done by polling in all the states, Obama currently has (260 Electoral Votes) based on states that are solidly in the democratic column.

You need 270 to be president.
    -------------------

The biggest changes since 2004 so far is that Obama now leads by double digits in two states that Bush won solidly in 2004.

Those two states are New Mexico and Iowa which combined is an additional 12 points for the democrats and minus 12 for the republicans.

Obama only needs 10 electorial votes out of the remaing 7 battle ground states which combined is 57 electoral votes.

looking at the electoral map, I would put most of my resources in Ohio, Virginia and Colorado if I were Obama. I say Colorado because if Obama some how lost both Ohio and Virginia, Colorado combined with any one of the remaining states would put Obama over 270.

We all know Nevada is leaning democratic so Colorado and Nevada would do it. Colorado has to be in that state "combination mix" if Obama loses Ohio and Virginia because Colorado has 9 electoral votes.

(Just looking at the Worst case scenario)

If Obama wins either Ohio or Virginia, it would put Obama over 270.

There are other combinations of Obama winning but it would require him to win alot more states which may be difficult to do.

But because of Obama picked up Iowa and New Mexico, it has allowed him to be able to win the presidency without Ohio and Florida.

Keep in mind in most polls Virginia is TIED.

The state hasnt been this close in turning blue since the 1960s.

Its a state in which the Minority vote could put Obama over the top in Virginia which would then give Obama the Presidency.

with less than two month til the election we can now get a clearer sense who is likely to win.

I tell people dont focus so much on national polls. Both the campaigns are focusing on the electoral map and where they are up in each state.

The map favors Obama which is why McCain made such a bold move by picking Sarah Palin to energize the republican base.

But I think its too little to late.

Obama has a strong foundation laid in these battleground states and he has a good chance in taking Ohio.

John Kerry loss Ohio in 2004 by 200,000 votes. If John Kerry had won Ohio, hed be president now.

The Obama campaign has registered almost a million new voters in Ohio while republican voter registration has declined in the state.

    Do the math.

Kerry lost by 200,000 votes and Obama has gain almost a million voters through a kind of aggressive voter registration campaign which won him his seat in the US Senate.

But even though Colorado, Nevada and North Dakota are toss up states in the margin of error, all three are slightly leaning towards Obama. So this is a good sign for the Obama campaign.

    -------
Republican presidential nominee John McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, equated lawmakers' requests for funding for special projects with corruption on Wednesday even though Palin herself has requested nearly $200 million in so-called "earmarks" this year.

Campaigning in Virginia, McCain suggested Earmarks are particularly shameful at a time when families are struggling with rising food, gas and home mortgage costs.

He vowed again to veto any bill that contains such funding.

    ----------------
"I got an old ink pen, my friends, and the first pork barrel-laden earmark, big-spending bill that comes across my desk, I will veto it.

    You will know their names....

I will make them famous and we'll stop this corruption," McCain said during a rally at a park in suburban Washington, D.C.
    ----------

Palin has sought [$197 Million Worth of Earmarks for 2009], down about 25 percent from the [$256 million she sought in the 2008 budget year].

Big Note: As mayor of tiny Wasilla, Alaska, she hired a lobbyist to seek federal money for special projects. Wasilla obtained [14 earmarks, totaling $27 million], between 2000-2003, according to Taxpayers for Common Sense.
    ---------------------------------------

Its Official, McCain is [Senile] He's Talking about his Running Mate
Sarah Palin, the [Greatest EarMark-Pork Barrell] Queen of All Time....
    ----------------

McCain must Think that he's back in the [1960's] We have the internet, We have YouTube and we have Wikipedia and Google...
    -------------
You know, the search Engine that Mccain Did'nt use to Vet Sarah Palin !!!!

    -------------------

Wasilla Alaskans regard themselves as a breed apart???more rugged, self-reliant and free than other Americans.

Palin shares that sense of exceptionalism.

But the myth is contradicted by some inconvenient facts.

Big Note: Only 1 percent of the state's land is in private hands and the economy is dependent on oil and other natural resources controlled by the federal government or Big Oil.
    -------------

As a result, nearly 50 years after statehood, Alaska remains deeply dependent on the federal government for support.

    Social Ills are RAMPANT !!!

BIG,BIG NOTE: Alasks's Levels of DRUG ABUSE, ALCOHOLISM, DOMESTIC VIOLENCE and CHILD ABUSE are ABOVE AVERAGE or among the THE HIGHEST IN THE COUNTRY !!!

TEEN PREGNANCY AS WELL AN TEEN DRUG USE !!

Palin has continued to repeat the ALREADY EXPOSED LIE !! that she said ...

"No, thanks" to the famous "Bridge to Nowhere"

Note: Its [John McCain's favorite example of wasteful federal spending].
    ------------

In fact, she said "Yes, Please" until the project became a symbol and Political Albatross.

    Back to reality.

Of the 50 states, Alaska ranks No. 1 in taxes per resident and No. 1 in spending per resident. Its tax burden per resident is 2 1/2 times the national average; its spending, more than double.

The trick is that Alaska's government spends money on its OWN CITIZENS and TAXES THE REST OF US, TO PAY FOR IT.

Although Palin, like McCain, talks about liberating ourselves from dependence on foreign oil, there is no evidence that being dependent on Alaskan oil would be any more pleasant to the pocketbook.

Alaska is, in essence, an adjunct member of OPEC.
    -------------

It has four different taxes on oil, which produce more than 89% of the state's unrestricted revenue.

On average, three-quarters of the value of a barrel of oil is taken by the state government before that oil is permitted to leave the state.

BIG NOTE: Alaska residents each get a yearly check for about [$2,000 from oil revenues], plus an [Additional $1,200 pushed through by Palin LAST YEAR] to take ADVANTAGE of RISING OIL PRICES....

Thats Apart from this Year's Government Stimulus Check !!!
    ------------

Any sympathy the governor of Alaska expresses for folks in the [lower 48] who are suffering from high gas prices or can't afford to heat their homes is STRICTLY CROCODILE TEARS !!!

As if it couldn't support itself, Alaska also ranks [No. 1], year after year, in ,Money it sucks in from Washington.
    ----------------

In 2005 (the most recent figures), according to the Tax Foundation, Alaska ranked 18th in federal taxes paid per resident ($5,434)

But 1st in federal spending received per resident ($13,950).

Its ratio of federal spending received to federal taxes paid ranks [3rd among the 50 states], and in the absolute amount it receives from Washington over and above the amount it sends to Washington, Alaska ranks No. 1.

TrooperGate sounds like a bad soap opera. My concern is John McCain's attempt to derail the investigation because he's afraid of an October surprise. If Palin's ex-brother-in-law is like my ex-broether-in-law, I don't what the surprise would be. However, when McCain attempts to derail the investigation, he's only telling me one thing - Palin's really got something to hide.
Let's look at Palin's brief record according to sources like the Los Angeles time and AP press releases I got from earthlink. Palin told the public she put her private plane on eBay. Actually it did not sell, so the state had to step in and sell the plane for a lot less. Palin then billed the state $ 43,000 or so or plane travel to her family. Palin denounces earmarks, at least if Obama asks for them, but earmarks for Alaska are OK. Per capita the earmarks Alaskans receive are about 11 percent more than the earmarks that go to Illinois.
Palin's attempt to derail the TrooperGate investigation bodes ill for future. As the VP, she and her cronies will look upon the federal government as a sort of Home Town Buffet where everyone can help themselves and charge the bill to future generations. I've already seen 8 years of this. I do not want 4 more years of the same old, same old

I fail to see where family court has that much to do with the election. Family Court is for, er, well, Families! Private things get discussed there that are not usually public record because they are, well, about children and family stuff. Your requests sound like a peeping tom neighborhood gossip whose life centers on talking about stuff that is none of their business. That of course, is just my opinion. You may not be like that at all. Perhaps there is something more to know, but I don't want gossip, I don't want a single child being hurt or damaged by an unrighteous demand for information that is not right to have. I keep wondering at hers daughters strength at 17 to endure all the public humiliation heaped on her by a out of control press trying to save" their candidate from really having to win our vote. Can't you see how wrong that was to put the scarlet F on her,, her life, her baby, and the boy? Would you do that to your daughter. I like to think that we could be a little more civil than that, a little more caring for the tender feelings of our youth. Its this attitude of hate, and hypocrisy of cheating good sense that has created the gangs in our cities. They want families that love them, that care about them, always try to work with them. Children are not trash but treasure. Their future is our shortcomings, give them all you can to overcome those and make a better world for their children. Today is our day, will we waste it, hurting those we aught to love.
