McCAIN HAS BEEN RUNNING ON CHANGE FOR 30 YRS.. HE HAS GONE ACROSS PARTY LINES TO GET THINGS DONE (IE;CHANGE!) HE HAS WAITED A LONG TIME TO HAVE THIS CHANCE TO MAKE REAL CHANGE IN WASHINGTON! IF ELECTED HE WILL HAVE A CABINET OF DEMOCRATS AND INDEPENDANTS AND REPUBLICANS THAT HE HAS WORKED WITH OVER THE LAST 30 YRS! HE KNOWS THOSE IN WASHINGTON THAT WANT CHANGE BUT WERE TO AFRAID TO SPEAK UP FOR FEAR OF THIER PARTIES REPRISAL.. SO THOSE FOLKS WILL BE APPOINTED TO HIS CABINET ! NOW A QUESTION FOR YOU WHO WILL OBAMA PUT IN HIS CABINET ? WHO HAS HE WORKED WITH IN HIS SHORT TIME AS A U.S. SENATOR? AND WHO DOES HE KNOW IN WASHINGTON THAT WANTS REAL CHANGE ( NOT THE LIBERAL VERSION OF IT ) WHO ? IF YOU WANT A NSWER TO THIS YOU HAVE TWO OPTIONS (1) GO TO MOVE ON .ORG AND SEE WHO IS PAYING HS WAY INTO THE WHITE HOUSE ! OR (2) LOOK AT THE COMPANY HE HAS KEPT FOR THE LAST 20YRS ! THAT???S WHO HE WILL APPOINT TO HIS CABINET MAYBE NOT THOSE FOLKS .. BUT ONES EXACTLY LIKE THEM !

Thank you for posting this. I did a little searching and found the article to read in detail. I won't go so far as to cheer or jeer either side of this campaign here, because I don't see much of a point. I will say I found the article chilling. Whomever we want to blame, and however long ago this trend began, the signs of fascism described in the article are all present now in this country. Very serious food for thought. I urge other readers to read the entire article as food for thought.

It is difficult to understand Obama???s claim to ???good judgment.??? When has any modern major party presidential nominee so frequently changed his positions on so many important issues or blamed his staff for so many problems? If Obama can???t consistently hold positions on important issues, how can he claim that he has such good judgment? Possibly Obama can come up with some other way of showing "good judgment," but so far he hasn't succeeded using the standards that he wants to be judged by.

@trazer? Sen. Obama doesn't "Hate Asians or multi-national corporations." Sen. Obama dislikes China's policies and rightly recognizes them to be detrimental to not just the US economy but a danger to the world in how they enact their foreign policy (their continued support of Kim Jong Il despite his people starving is a perfect example). With over a dozen other Asian countries he has little or no problem with from a policy perspective your words are obviously false.

As to multi-national corporations, Sen. Obama only has a problem with those that seek to undermine the political process, won't pay their fare share of taxes when they do business here, and when they take actions that are opposed to our interests in foreign or environmental policy.

Almost all voters are rational. They vote for candidates who they support or are the better of the two. Newsweek - which seems to think poorly of many Americans - thinks that unless their readers vote Democratic, they are not rational. Obama does not even know about multinational companies. He has alienated every ASIAN in America - many of the wonderful workers who have come to the US, gotten their citizenship, and has opened markets to Asian marketplaces. These are areas where wel sell American goods. Obama hatred of ASIANS and Multinational Companies will result in MAJOR UNEMPLOYMENT>

  • Posted By: trazer @ 09/12/2008 2:18:54 PM

Obama votes PRESENT......instead of voting YES orNo. We were told this by the great American senator Hillary Clinton. It would be nice if the rational voter were given the choice on the ballot - We voted and not even have to choose a candidate. As commander in chief and if there is a crisis, I would not want a President who just says he is present. We need someone who can weigh the issues, make sound judgments quickly, and serve the American people. Obama -Present but NOT Presidential.

  • Posted By: trazer @ 09/12/2008 2:13:41 PM

The Democats know their candidate is running scared. As such, Obama has resorted to bullying, calling people names, and being mean to women given his major slam on Hillary. Rational voters? Rational voters are those who hear the issue. Whenever Obama recently opens his mouth, he has nothing to say on the sound bites I hear on our local news shows. He was more interesting in the forum last night.....Obama needs to realize that the sound bites and attacking people are mkaing rational voterse abandon him. He needs to be mnre thoughtful.

  • Posted By: trazer @ 09/12/2008 2:11:02 PM

I really hate the fact that Democrats have resorted to bullying tactics and called anyone who may have a different point of view Liers. Obama promised us so much more - and he has simply resorted to trashing so many Americans given his negative campaigning. It seems that Newsweek definition of a rational voter is:The rational Voter must take money from felons to buy their houes (Obama did), use cocaine (Obama did), desert the family ( Obama has lived in hotels rooms for 17 months which is not good for his family.)l. He wnet to churches that attacked the Milary and WHITES.

  • Posted By: Cloudosmoke @ 09/12/2008 7:58:59 AM

Rational voters see that Palin has done nothing but lie everytime she speaks. The lies she spews come straight from Rove. She has said the same words in every speech since the Convention. She is already sitting with C Gibson going over the script. McCain has done nothing but lied. He has lied on his positions, he has lied on Obama's positions, he has lied about his voting records, he has lied abotu his allegiances.

Obama has been the only straight talking candidate. If he makes a mistake, he mans' up to it. McCain cowers in the corner expecting the bull dog to attack and all she can do is bark the same old talking points. There is no rationale behind McCain's campaign.

The only way that the voters sre ever going to get the real fact is if we, as a nation, implement a policy that says that all information used in advertisements and articles has to be true and checked for accuracy.
None of this crap about 'this is what we believe they said,' only 'this is exactly what was said, in context'.
Most people who vote are intelligent, thinking individuals who cast their ballots based on the information that they have been given by the media and when that information has been warped to the point of being false then the whole system suffers for it. We are supposed to have a clean election system but when the candidates are allowed to distort the truth to suit their own needs, then that is not what I'd consider a "Clean" election.

  • Posted By: trazer @ 09/12/2008 1:09:14 AM

Rational voters will not vote for Obama who:
    1) Will weaken American Defense and make us vulnerable to attack.
    2) Support drug use by our children given his use of cocaine and other drugs (per his own autobirography).
    3) Borrowing money from now convicted felons, who funded his political campaing.
    4) Supporting Segreation and Rasicm given Biden and his plan to divvide IRAQ into 3 countries.

Before she was chosen by McCain, Palin nearly endorsed Obama. See this video: http://tinyurl.com/5vkuoj

It would be easier to believe in the wisdom of the majority if it were not for the relentless marketing of the candidates. you know some votes must hinge on which attack ad the voters saw right before casting the ballot. It is also increasingly clear that gender and race both have a huge and disgraceful role in the "selling" of this election. Merit recognotion left with Hillary, so we are left with the second best Democratic candidate and an old man in the traditional GOP mold on the Republican side, backed up by the most offensive, ignorant and unqualified candidate in memory, behind him. It is not only the electorate that can be irrational.

    • Posted By: Phoenix AZ @ 09/11/2008 10:44:44 PM

I agree with you. I watched Sarah Palin's 1st interview today and I felt that she stumbled a bit. I think she came out too strong at the convention without enough experience behind her and she's going to have a tough time living up that toughness she came out punching with. Also, I think the national polls sway people too much especially the ones that don't do their homework on each candidate. I don't believe in the national poll numbers and from what I hear they aren't accurate or close to it. I'd like those to completely go away. State polls are probably closer to being close. Anyway, as my dear Dad used to say it all "dirty politics". I pray the best candidate for the job wins.

The American voter generally represents the biggest flock of sheep to have ever been fleeced, yet we keep coming back to be fleeced again. Of course, the media stands above us shaking their collective heads wondering what is wrong as they perpetuate the fleecing. American politics have become a series of sound bites and talking heads. The media plays into this by providing it "beacause that's what they want". Well, stop! You don't give your child candy and chips all of the time because "that's what they want", you give them the food they need. Who CARES about lipstick? Can you imagine what people in other countries think about us when our headlines in politics are about lipstick? Where are the real facts, where is the media when we need them? McCain is not 'distorting' things, he is LYING! Quit playing spin, quit feeding little pieces, force feed us the whole story. If there are no sound bites, then people would actually have to pay attention to real issues. Here is a poll for you; ask people who they support for president, then present them with a multiple choice test of that candidate's positions on several issues, will it really shock you when you find out they do not know a thing?

    • Posted By: Phoenix AZ @ 09/11/2008 4:59:45 PM

You are right, I have thought Americans generally are a flock of sheep on many day to day issues. We just keep taking it and trudge along. Look back at the late 60's when people actually rallied and marched against injustices? On another note, I would like the candidates to lay it all out on the table so we could answer questions about them as intelligently as possible. People we need to wake up and demand the facts.

This is truly a battle of good vs. evil ...

Palin's appeal is that she shows up the areas where Obama is weak.
She is humble and down to earth whilst he is arrogant and out of touch.
She is a woman of action whilst he has lofty words devoid of any actions.
She is all substance and real whilst he is superficial without substance .
She is strong and honest whilst he is weak and dishonest (he lies about who he is is)
She got to where she was on her own merit. Obama had to first rely on his strong grandmother, then Rev. Wright & Rezlo, then Emil Jones, then the media, and now the Clintons. And each time he toss those folks under the bus who no longer serve his needs.

In her VP speech in one fell swoop Palin exposed the man for all to see. And those who paid attention woke up out of their stupor. It is a pity that how she performs point forward will decide if that charlatan makes it to the white house. It is each person's responsibility to vet who they vote for as opposed to voting on who best puts on the best show. What a disaster if an Obama win comes to past. And I say that as an African American who dared to look beyond skin color. The fact that he was so willing to steal the nomination from Hillary is quite telling. Since when little bitty states / caucuses count more than big states / primaries wins? The Superdelegates neglected their responsibilities and so I will never ever be a Democrat. For that party is not change I can believe in.

Read listen, and learn and you won't be so deceived!!!

      I second that!

  • Posted By: Phoenix AZ @ 09/11/2008 4:00:33 PM

Sarah Palin was announced as McCain's 'vetted' Vice Presidential choice on August 29th, 2 weeks ago. Merriam Webster's definition of vetted: to subject to usually expert appraisal or correction <vet a manuscript> b: to evaluate for possible approval or acceptance. Yesterday S. Palin flew back to Alaska along with Republican campaing staff and did not speak to any reporters. How is that possible? Can anyone who is a McCain/Palin supporter explain with substantiated facts why after almost 2 weeks she is not speaking to reporters or giving interviews? If she is fully vetted why are they not allowing her to speak other than scripted speeches? I know the answer, but would like your take on why you think this qualifies her so much.

As we mourn on this day, I want to take a moment to commend all who have blogged here.

We are engaging in the most American of traditions; the ability to speak our minds without fear of reprisal. This freedom that we take for granted is one of the things that has made us unique, and made us great.

And it is one of the things the extremists, our enemies, fear most - a loud and vibrant community of people with ideas, and the willingness to speak them.

Although we are frequently rude, crude and belligerent, we are part of an idea that goes back to Thomas Payne. A free press, no matter how we may disagree with the views expressed, is a sacred thing.

Thanks, all bloggers, even the ones I disagree with, maybe especially the ones I disagree with, for carrying on this tradition.

    Long may we wave.

Wow. Obama is going to kill your babies, teach sex to little children, and make us all worship Allah. Sarah Palin is going to ban all books, abolish a woman's right to choose, and shove the right-wing version of God down our throats. Afraid alot?

  • Posted By: Melkor @ 09/11/2008 3:53:19 PM

American voters ARE idiots. At least the ones who vote for the 2 main parties and expect anything to change. Free trade destroyed the middle class - started by the right, promolgated by the left, and further expanded by the right. You reap what you vote for.

  • Posted By: Alongwayback @ 09/11/2008 3:41:43 PM

Keep this nations elected officials from only doing what is best for the top 5% or 10% of this great nation and start requiring them to do what is best for 100% of this nation by law. Right now, our officials sacrifice the needs of the many for the needs of the few and this must end now. It is a ludicris proposition to even allow the few to be held over the many, when it is the many that give so much to this country and make the few so rich. To allow the rich to take far more than their fair share and require them to only by law contribute next to nothing is a recipe for eventual civil unrest in this country, because people will tire of this, most already have.
