Comment: I think ever since Bush, the dumbest president ever, was re-elected, the country split into 2, even more so than previous elections not counting Vietnam. One half could not believe that someone could lie about starting a war and get relected, the other half did not care that he lied to start a war. It will take many many years to repair the damage of the Bush tyranny/lies/corruptness. Like when McCain opens his mouth, nothing but lies comes out. If old John is elected, or a 3rd term Bush, we are DEFINITELY the dumbest people ever. Question:Why would old John lie about something as small as the sale of Palin's or the state of Alaska's plane? Answer:Stupidity and lack of honesty.

Then the Liberals should continue to vote for their candidates...Daffy Duck and Peter from the Family guy! Those seem like a good pair. Last time I checked Johns last name is McCain and George's last name is Bush. Should we compare Obama's last name to Mussolini, because that who he riminds me of.

ndhotwheel - what are you talking about.....the republicans have been in control for 8 years and yet you still want to push this same old garbage. Did you read the article?? it is lamenting the lack of rational voters - obviously you do not fit into that category.

Let me give you an example of your "brilliant" ideas Republicans. You cut our taxes, but forget to implement an energy policy to stop our dependency of oil. Result? Any tax cutting we were given goes up in smoke at the pump. Brilliant Republicans!!!! I feel so much better.

You can thank your Democratic congress for that one.

Liberals have their own free carnal liberties to dangle around with disregard for moral or ethical standards for this great country! They have had their push, now its time for moderates, independents, and conservatives to push back. I'm glad that MSNBC is finally getting it by silencing Olberman and Mathews shows. These liberals have been yappin at the mouth too long. Time for them to sit down. No more government hand outs. The country gives them a little rope and they keep pulling. It's time for a change alright to change this country back to where it belongs....to One Nation Under God!

If a rational voter is a myth. A rational politician is a bigger myth.

  • Posted By: aml1414 @ 09/10/2008 3:43:44 PM

The framers of the Constitution never thought the electorate was rational. They allowed Senators to be appointed by the states and had an electoral college to elect the President. The modern day ideal of democracy did not exist until the populist of the early 20th century drove it into every element of our country. Informed individuals make rational decisions, not individuals relying on group think and the whim of public opinion.

All people should vote conservative if they wish to be rational. -- Didn't the conservatives win the past two elections???? People might also want to THINK instead of hanging on to dangerous simple beliefs that are bankrupting our country.

I agree that we have move to an age where who we elect plays second to everything in our personal lives. I also agree that we need to have civics required in our public schools and colleges in addition to real economics. The thing that most of us have in common is money albeit little or allot. Fanz Pick, the economist, wrote a book called the triumph of gold. In it exposed the evident and future demise of our economy and tied it back into the fact we have a horrible education system relative to economic. All it takes is a simple review of the bloggosphere to see that the majority feels more comfortable spouting vitriol and hate rather that having an educated debate. I have little hope that this will change.

    rbolend.

About your comment in Corporate taxas by Obama. I posted the fact that voters (that would be you) DO NOT RESEARCH before they vote.

Here friend are the facts, and please do take the time to check them I dare you to contradict them.

    1) The Bush Administration you support, with the FULL SUPPORT of Sen. McCain you also support gave absolutely NO TAX BRAKES to U.S. Corporations in their entire 8 years of the Bush Presidency. Corporate tax was 38% when Bush started, and today is 38%.

    2) The Bush Administration could have cut taxes for Corporations, but instead they cut taxes for the 1% richest among us. The tax cutting, combined with the nedless war in Iraq transfomed an inheritance of surpluses into a legacy of the highest deficits in our history.

In comes Sen. Mccain promising to keep Bush's taxes for the rich (the candidate of "change" in action for you) , and adding now tax cuts for Corporations.

Have you heard Sen. McCain explain to us how does he plan to PAY for all these tax cuts????????? You think there's a bunch of morons out there in the world willing to continue to finance a bunch of worthless IOU's into infinity???? You think that foreigners burned in still another Wall Street debacle feel like supporting the DEMONSTRATED financial irresponsability of your party?

So I am glad you are for a Corporate tax brake my friend, I am just curious as to where have you been in the last 8 years????

Cutting corporate taxes is a good idea provided you pay with it by eliminating the tax cutting for the rich for example. But the idea that you can cut taxes for the rich, for Corporations, and for the middle class while at the same time paying 10 billion Dollars a month on wars like Iraq (a trillion Dollars of expenditures so far) is pure and simple bull.

Let me give you an example of your "brilliant" ideas Republicans. You cut our taxes, but forget to implement an energy policy to stop our dependency of oil. Result? Any tax cutting we were given goes up in smoke at the pump. Brilliant Republicans!!!! I feel so much better.

Been saying for years that the Repugnicans have w/Reagans henchman Lee Atwater figured out how to pander to the Lowest Common Denominator's of our society (LCD's)...this has of course been taken to a fine art by the Rovian tactics of swiftboating both McCain & Kerry, as Rove showed the ability to cut anyone's throat w/lie's, fear & smear be they Democrat or Repugnican...

  • Posted By: vindido @ 09/10/2008 2:17:57 PM

Ok,so let me get this straight. Now that Mccain/Palin are ahead in the polls, the electorate are,at best,un informed? What a croc. This is the exact kind of thinking that will cost Obama Hussein the election this November. Not that his elitist condenscending Holier than Thou attitude is unique for his party. The Democratic party could only nominate two people this year who could lose to McCain. One was Hilary. The other one.....the former Muslim from that bastion of clean politics,Chicago.NObama 08.And keep the change

    • Posted By: geemann1970 @ 09/10/2008 3:24:30 PM

      Why so angry vindildo?

  • Posted By: Huberc @ 09/10/2008 3:22:49 PM

I think the far right and the far left both have a stake in keeping the average voter ill informed. The hate I hear from both sides, leads me to believe that cool moderate and intelligent thought is the last thing they want to prevail.

The days are gone where the bulk of voters listen to the candidate's position on the issues and vote their concience. Sadly, most voters today will believe whatever slander and smear someone will tell them. Because it's on TV it must be true. Case in point, 4 years ago, a bunch of "so-called" veterans for truth told lies about a candidate and the voters believed them.

Rational voters are a thing of the past. People don't vote with their mind, they vote with their emotions. If the voter is told that a candidate is unpatriotic because they don't wear a lapel pin, then they believe it and base their vote on extraneous issues that aren't a part of the job -- rather than focusing on the issues that the candidate will have to contend with.

Saddam Hussein WAS an international terrorist. He invaded a foreign country and terrorized the inhabitants.

Not only did he have WMD's, but he USED WMD's agains the Kurds in the late 1980's.

No, he was not connected with Al Queda, nor did he have recent WMD's.

The premises under which Bush led the U.S. to war in Iraq were partially false, partially true. It's an election year though, so everything is polarized.

    • Posted By: jnakhoul @ 09/10/2008 3:19:41 PM

and who put him in power smart guy? no WMDS=lying

  • Posted By: hankthetank @ 09/10/2008 2:26:08 PM

The economic disaster facing our country is a direct result of the Republican "laissez faire' doctrine of government. For the past eight years we have seen what privitisation and deregulation of business has brought us-recessation. The "trickle down" theory of economics can only succeed when it benefits American workers, and not workers in other countries. We must elect Obama to stop the outsourcing of jobs to other countries and stop subsidizing business that do so.

    • Posted By: jnakhoul @ 09/10/2008 3:16:57 PM

Amen. most mccain supporters don't really seem to find the problem in trickle down economics, even worse mccains "cuts" would increase taxs on the lower 80 percentile in favor of lowering taxs for the top 20. In effect "pour up" economics. Unbelievable that anybody is still taking his economic policies seriously

    To Blackbird747:
You should read a book by Spenser Johnson called, "Who stole my Cheese?" It will give you an insight to why companies leave America for cheaper labor. Most of the time it is because they can't complete by changing and don't wish to compete.
Higher wages here in America make companies go away. Now that the dollar is devalued, jobs are being created back in America using our cheaper labor. Most of them in the southern states that have less regulations and less wage structures.

rational voters = those that think exactly like me

  • Posted By: jnakhoul @ 09/10/2008 3:12:58 PM

easy, if they vote for obama

  • Posted By: rbolend @ 09/10/2008 3:12:06 PM

Blackbird747: How did you get that rational from my comments? Answer: you didn't! Perhaps you actually got that from the MSM, or the Dem party, but you are a fool to believe what they spew without fact checking for yourself. Try economics 101 at your local college for starters.

When did I mention free trade? That is a topic you are also wrong about but not the subject of my post. My post was about taxes and the resulting economic activity. About how economic activity is the basis of everything from jobs to the cost of gas. Perhaps you think, as the Democrats constantly tell you, that somehow the government produces anything, or has any money of their own. Again, you are being fooled. And then you call me a traitor, a communist perhaps. Do you not think that I too faught in Vietnam, but I was able to continue loving my country. what is your problem? How have you personnally been hurt by the past 8 years? And how is any of that hurt the responsibility of the President?
