Did you notice your litlle buddy Michael Moore had all his cameras out in 2004, and there was no evidence of any of this stuff that you claim as facts.

Excellent piece of reporting, Jonathan. What can we do about it? Like so many of the injustices in America, it is always too late, too under the radar, too much trouble for our busy me, me, me lives. It's like the longer and harder you fight sometimes the farther you get from your goal. The comments on the blog are absolutely outrageous in their ignorance and bigotry. I like to think that we Americans are better than this. I almost agree with the woman who wishes that McCain wins, so that this country can be utterly destroyed by greed, ignorance and cynicism. Then what????? Will be ever blame ourselves for the sins of omission that dominate our lives? This is a critical election for so many reasons - those of us who have been fighting for twenty months (and forty years) applaud journalists like you who still value the truth. Thank You for sharing this~ after reading Your article, I wanted to cry for I understand the need to verify & check voter registration to avoid fraud however- if this targets a particular area of individuals who do not have need for the identification required- How is the DMV going to accomodate so there is NO delay in getting so many applications processed? I am sickened to think how some peoples way of thinking has fallen backwards in time- hindering a minorities right to vote- or a certain geographic area- putting up barriers- some may not have the money to pay for such an ID especially if they are living and scraping by. or have a means to get into town- The counties- cities- affected by this requirement- how are the people being notified? What can the Democratic party do to help register voters- make sure they are eligible to vote? I'm an African American but live in California- I must say- am apalled by this *Crawford Decision* and now that I think of it- Community Organizers would be a critical asset especially in this type of political-geographic *discrimination* . How can we as American citizens help those who are being held back from voting? Is there a way for a DMV on wheels type of scenario- where the DMV use a van- have a camera for pictures-applications to complete- fingerprinting set up if necessary- done within this vehicle- of course the card mailed to the person's home. Maybe they can go to disadvantaged areas? Also I have question regarding voting outlets that have technical difficulties where a larger number of disadvantaged live- I remember in the primaries, there were several voting stations that were having problems and voters turned away- how can that be overseen so it does NOT happen in the general elections. The law restricting voters has also been passed in Georgia. When I took my 96 year old mother to get her Georgia ID so that she could board a plane and vote, I was told that she had to have a birth certificate because her driver???s license had expired three months before. We went back home, got the certificate but when we returned, it was rejected as invalid because she had printed her married name on the document. Not to be out done, we went to another ID office 25 miles from our home. At this location, they accepted the birth certificate but demanded a marriage license to prove that the name printed on the birth certificate was in fact her married name. It didn???t matter that I had her Medicare card, an expired passport with her picture, and her recently expired driver???s license. 25 miles home and 25 miles back, with marriage license and birth certificate in hand, we finally got the Georgia ID. In Georgia, its easier to buy a hand gun then it is to register to VOTE!

If you are unable or unwilling to present ID meeting these requirements, you may cast a provisional ballot. After hearing this story on the radio today, I emailed local and national Television stations, asking why they weren't running this story. I don't expect an answer, but at least I tried.

These are the real stories of this election, and its happening quietly all over the country, Republicans are trying to steal another election. The most recent attempt - the McCain campaign is sending out false absentee ballot request forms to registered Democratic voters in swing states around the country voters. ( I got one myself).

Why are these stories buried? Why are we talking about Gov. Palins lipstick instead? What is wrong with your colleagues, Joe? Are they stupid, lazy or just sell-outs?
