Acorn and its affiliates have pulled some real stunts in recent years. In Ohio in 2004, a worker for one affiliate was given crack cocaine in exchange for fraudulent registrations that included underage voters, dead voters and pillars of the community named Mary Poppins, Dick Tracy and Jive Turkey. During a Congressional hearing in Ohio in the aftermath of the 2004 election, officials from several counties in the state explained ACORNs practice of dumping thousands of registration forms in their lap on the submission deadline, even though the forms had been collected months earlier.

Given this history, its not surprising that ACORN is so hostile to voter identification laws and other efforts to ensure fairness and accuracy at the polls.

In heavily Democratic urban areas, particularly in places like Chicago and New York, it's fairly common to find people being driven to the polls and paid to vote. I guess that's called "community organizing." In fact, in some parts of New York City, even the dead vote. Democratic, no doubt. Ain't America great?

I'm sure it's all due to voter fraud. Oh I know Barry supporters go put on your tin foil hats so the nasty GOP doesn't use their new brainwave control device on you. That's why the Polls show McCain higher...it just has to be.

It seems that this is so acrimonious that America is headed for an idealogical civil war. Being a liberal, I know we would lose - we don't have sufficient hatred or guns (the acrimony spills out of me). But I wonder - how would conservatives survive without liberal things - education, peace, and the New Testament?

I notice a lot of people here are so gung-ho to stereotype people they didn't take the time to actually read the article. In one of the very first paragraphs it states "the incidence of individual vote fraud???voting when you aren't eligible???is virtually non-existent." That being the case what prompted these officials to take this action? The fact that the process is so selective - in some (electorally decisive) states but not others, certain counties of a state, but not the whole state, looks suspiciously like an attempt to hold down the vote total in some areas. The GOP isn't stupid. Everyone is aware that the majority of black people vote democratic. Their ruse is policitally astute, but morally repugnant. If they don't want a charge of racism then they should have done it in heavily democratic white areas also or it should be nationwide. The failure to do so makes their intent obvious. If in the Jim Crow south only some people were required to do something extra besides register to actually vote, and only some are being asked to do something extra today, what is the difference? I don't want to bring up the lipstick on a pig thing again.

This was an interesting conversation not to be belittled on either side. Hope there are no hard feelings as this is a topic that has emotion inherent with in it. I learned some things, maybe someone else did too. Dialogue is good. Hate is bad. We can politely agree to disagree.
