    Biden did it again today. When confronted with Obama's statement about "bitter" Americans "clinging" to religion, Biden said: "You know, Barack was just echoing what Marx said more than 150 years ago. Religion is the opium of the people. I don't think that there is a single Ivy League political science professor who would dispute that. Not one, folks" Unbelievable. What is this guy going to say next?

    There are two sides folks. We are wise to the way diversion in conversations go to try to derail the subject of racial discrimination. Believe me, we know all to well. Can see it all day long. I see one person has the integrity to face the issue without bias and still not curry favor where it's not due, because Blacks have worsened their own plight, no doubt. That I can appreciate because truth trumps ignorance and stupidity. Stupidity is voting for McCain after you can see what he is about. Those are grudge votes against a more sincere candidate. That's how many folks think. Unfortunately, you'll end up lying to your kids about why you voted for a guy who showed by way of his campaigning, what type of president he would be. That is what is sad.

    The accusation that some white people in Indiana are going to keep black voters from voting is ridiculous. I went onto the League of Women Voters site for Indiana to find out the facts. What I found was that anyone can vote who is an US citizen, 18 years old on the day of the next general or municipal election, have lived in Indiana precinct for 30 days before the next election and are currently not in prison after being convicted of a crime. As far as ID needed, you must have a photo ID to vote. If you don't have one you can cast a provisional vote on election day. You then have 13 days after election day to present a photo ID. Free photo ID's can be obtained from the BMV if you don't have a driver's license. Also exemptions can be claimed if you are indigent, or have a religious objection to being photographed. I find this totally reasonable. A voter has the right to know that voters casting votes are who they say they are. Your claim of racism is horrible, untrue, and sleazy. This type of reporting is why I did not renew my subscription to Newsweek. Hopefully the American public can see through your transparent attempt to sway the electorate.

    What don't you guys get. I assume there are some intelligent people on this blog. There are two sides one of which whites historically avoid talking about and you guys get plenty mad about someone bringing it up which is highly evident here. There are two sides folks. We are what, about only 30-40 years past those days and you folks act like slavery ended 500 years ago. No it is here with us now. I am over 30. Ohio is in virtual jim crow heaven. Now those are die hard racist up there. But the days are here when the jim crow folks are being replaced with up-right citizens. Great!

    As far as millions of Americans are concerned George W. Bush stole the election from Al Gore by the crap that went on in Florida and some other States, so don't be so naive to think that Blacks need to get over themselves and not fear the worse. Look folks, rather you want to face this or not, this stuff is real and sinister so get your heads out of the sand. Sounds like you nay sayers need to read the Bible, and I'm not supporting what Palin says about war, because I don't believe she nor McCain has a clue. Neither are really serious about the issues of Americans they just want to win. Senator Obama has a deep sincere commitment to make changes. Again I say, McCain is still suffering from Post Traumatic Syndrome and it would be a horrible mistake to vote him in as leader of our country. Do you all know that other countries are laughing at us for even considering these two people McCain/Palim. McCain knows that sex sells, so he used his small head to select a running mate, and now all the guys who are voting for this team because of her are following suit with their small heads, go figure. And as for the women who are voting for her because she's a women are either very, very rich and was able to live through the past eight years or they are just ignorant to the real issues most Americans are facing under the Republican Administration. McCain has not original ideas, he's stealing campaign ideas from the Democrats and some of Obama's lines for his campaign. Another reason why he picked Palin, he wanted to be part of history and go one better, a total unknown and radical religious hippocrit. I think if McCain/Palin wins this election there will be a mass exodus from this country because it would be too embrassing to stay. Wake up people and listen to what these two people are saying (McCain/Palin), absolutely nothing. God have Mercy on America

    Yes that is going on too but I'll tell you this, black voter suppression is historical in this country and dead people voting is a result of the injustice towards blacks on this topic. Of course people are going to use whatever means necessary in order to fight against this discriminatory practice that has gone far to long unchecked. You can't expect that Black people are going to continue to sit back and allow this crap to continue to happen to thaem. If it where happening to me, I would also find a way to buck the system that is set up in back rooms to buck me.

      That is ridiculous! Is following the same rules that apply to everyone else injustice? It is time for people to quit making excuses for poor behavior. Stop blaming slavery and the discrimination of the past and start taking personal responsibility for doing the right thing. If a black man can be leading the race for the Presidency of the United States of America, surely other blacks can find a way to get a valid ID. Sorry, you can't have extra votes in this election to make up for the votes that your poor dead great grandmother didn't get to cast. They should absolutely be entitled to cast a vote as I can with the same requirements that I have - that's fair. Allowing people to lie and cheat to steal an election is not. They do not have to sit back and allow anything to happen to them. They not only have the right, but the responsibility as American citizens to cast a vote in this and every election - but only one and only until you die.

        I'm thinking the only reason it is a big deal is because if you have open warrants for your arrest you would go to jail for trying to get a valid ID card. Why else would it be asking too much to have 0proof you are who you say you are?

    Let's see, proving you are who you say you are in order to vote in a Presidential election is racist? Get real.

    Drivers licenses aren't the only valid ID. State issued IDs that cost nothing are acceptable. Our elections are too important to deny citizens the right to vote, but they're also too important to allow voter fraud.

    Any effort to keep any specific racial, ethnic, sexually oriented, etc group from voting is wrong, however twisted or convoluted the method is. However, This is the 21st century, most (not all, but most) people must now posess a strong form of photo ID, whether it be a passport, a drivers licence or a state issued non driver ID card. It doesn't matter what race you are, it's just dumb not to have one. You can hardly do anything official without a photo ID. If you can't vote because you can't be identified properly, tthat is your problem. Neither can you cash a paycheck, and in many cases you can't use a credit card without photo ID. Stop griping, go down to the local DMV, get you photo taken and get the darn ID card. It can also provide valuable information to authorities in the event (especially women) that you go missing. Conversely, if an individual is trying to hide from the authorities, well, voting is the least of your worries. If you want to use your right to vote, there are responsibilities to maintain that right.

        Applause! You are so right. Still, it doesn't negate the discrimination that goes on in other ways to suppress Black voters rights to vote. It is Black people's fault if they can't vote yes, however, many districts across the country in many different states found discriminatory practices going on in regards to those who do have proper ID. Face it, it's one of the MAJOR principles this country was founded on and history is history. . Again to belittle the issue is the same tactics used in the jim crow era, period!

      Heck, here in Florida (naw, we don't know anything about voter fraud here!) you even have to have a state issued ID/Drivers license even to rent a movie from the local video store. I don't see how being required to show the same ID that every citizen is supposed to have, like everyone else is expected to do all throughout life, is discrimination. If you don't have an ID or a drivers licenes, chances are there is a very good reason, and it's probably not because you were a complete legal eagle with a check made out in hand and were simply denied at the DMV counter due your race, religion, ethnicity or anything else that counts as unethical discrimination.

      I am curious about your posting and I want to ask you this question Mr. Jayboy2020: Who are the decent people of this country on whose throats things are being pushed down on?. Decency is not an attribute possessed by only one racial group. I will like to remind you that the African Americans and other racially disadvantaged peoples, eg, the American Indians, are not the only beneficiaries of the social services of this country. Historically and statistically speaking, the whites have been the most beneficiaries of social programs, whether it is in the form of social welfare programs to alleviate poverty, farm (agricultural) subsidies to save the family farms, or any other subsidies. Were all social programs to be eliminated, the impact would be felt more by the whites than any other racial group in the United States. America may be a capitalist state on paper, but sometimes an infusion of some social programs goes a long way to smooth out the rough edges of capitalism. Does that make America a socialist state? No. Is moral decline exclusive to one race? No.

      The problem you have is that you have been eating up all the propaganda being dished out for decades against minority groups. I bet you that in this coming presidential election, you may not even know the issues at stake that would inform you on how to cast your vote. In order words, you would cast your vote for whomever you want, not knowing why you cast that vote.

      Regarding driver licences, what is needed is to educate people whether Democrats or Republicans, on the importance of having an ID, besides the puposes of voting in an election. Non-possession of ID is as prevalent among rural or heartland whites as it is for minority groups. Our civic responsibility to vote should be encouraged not discouraged.

      In summation, I will suggest to you to set aside the propaganda and your cheap shots and get yourself a good dose of education about issues concerning America. That is the only way you can become an informed voter and a better person. Your insults will never make America a better place.

    Uh, isn't the Obama campaign on the ground in 50 states registering as many black voters as it can? Given that Obama got lots of multiple votes from single voters at my caucus, I think verification makes a ton of sense on the Republican's part.

        It was a caucus. Obama supporters were handing out ballots left and right. I talked to people who said they voted for Obama several times. The whole thing was a rigged mess. It was what turned me off to Obama. I could see that he had no compunction about cheating to win. Remember, he did well in caucus states, not states that had voting primaries. McPalin/Palin should be very worried about his "ground game."

    Apparently you haven't checked the Memphis, TN election results from even the past few years. Through an investigation of voter fraud, it was detirmined that in fact - dead people voted. Now that's impressive. Not only can the democrats load up busses and even limousines full of African-American voters, they even rounded up the dead and managed to get them to the voting booth as well and some even voted multiple times. I do not think it is unreasonable to require proper ID in order to take part in such an important process. If democrats can provide transportation to the polls on election day, perhaps they could provide transportation to the DMV to get a proper ID.
