THANK YOU for having the courage to tell the truth.

The GOP believes in rigged elections. How can we present ourselves as a democracy to the rest of the word when we do not practice it ourselves? How can we spend trillions of dollars to bring free elections in Iraq when we have rigged elections at home?

The greatest threat to democracy is not Al Queda. It's the GOP. I hope enough people in this country wake up and get rid of the GOP before its too late.

Funny. I've been saying the same about BOTH main parties sinse I turned 18. I've been voting for least worst for every election.

loriw, you're a horrid *** and a contradiction in terms. You make it clear with just about every post that you have no respect for Newsweek or the majority of its authors, yet you still find time to post on nearly every thread on the site. For someone who doesn't think Newsweek is a worthy publication, it would seem you spend an awful lot of hours out of your week judging people, verbally sh1tting on them, and et cetera.

Don't you have anything better to do with your life?

And as far as this issue goes, it makes me sad. Driving isn't a requirement to vote; never has been. If these precincts don't allow voting with a Social Security card either, it becomes completely unconstitutional.

• Posted By: jimbo3800 @ 09/11/2008 7:57:30 PM

And Vigil-ante, you are simply spewing your usual left-wing talking points, as you do on this site daily. Are you even capable of independent thought?

Because it sure seems that whenever Newsweak serves up its daily download of talking points from the DNC and shouts "jump", you answer back, "how high?" while you are on the way up.

• Posted By: TheVigil @ 09/11/2008 8:01:49 PM

Quite capable. Right now I'm thinking that you're a coward and a piece of sh1t. Is that a thought you share or can I be considered to be thinking independently there?

• Posted By: jimbo3800 @ 09/11/2008 9:21:16 PM

My only thought is that name-calling is evidently all you've got.

• Posted By: TheVigil @ 09/12/2008 2:08:08 PM

I just don't have the time to refute you on points the way I usually do. All you silent-majority bigots make me want to scream to God and ask why the kind of hate, selfishness, greed, and bile you spit even exists.

• Posted By: Zombiehero @ 09/12/2008 2:55:39 PM

You don't have time? More like you can't refute the points. So go ahead and call names, that's the only thing you have.

• Posted By: Tim - Ohio @ 09/15/2008 8:25:44 AM

I've been reading through the thread of comments and I'd have to agree. He seems responsible for 60% or more of the personal attacks I've read so far, most following a comment he cannot refute (because it correct maybe?).

• Posted By: Pia1981 @ 09/11/2008 8:54:06 PM

You're being mean. The Vigil has a right to her opinions the same way you do.

• Posted By: jimbo3800 @ 09/11/2008 7:40:37 PM

This article is the most laughable yet from Newsweak, and that is REALLY saying something. Yes, God forbid someone should be asked to identify themselves before exercising their right to vote. And how on earth does this discriminate against anyone, exactly? Aren't white people being asked to produce ID as well?

Oh, the humanity!

Jonathan Alter has really outdone himself this time! LOL

• Posted By: TheVigil @ 09/12/2008 2:10:31 PM

And yet, somehow, the man has probably millions of people reading his work, and a great many (obviously not you) who think he's a fine and capable journalist. And that's going to be true no matter how loudly you "laugh".

Dissing "second-rate" journalism doesn't carry much weight when the dis comes from a fourth-rate person, jimbo.

• Posted By: Tim - Ohio @ 09/15/2008 8:21:44 AM

"millions of people reading his work, and a great many (obviously not you) who think he's a fine and capable journalist"

No one ever said that the public couldn't be duped.

• Posted By: THE RAVEN @ 09/12/2008 10:32:16 AM

"Aren't white people being asked to produce ID as well?" No, dumbo. You're a stupid ass, but you can't be so stupid that you're not aware of this country's past and recent attempts to keep black people from voting. And you rednecks are the ones who are always caught in voting frauds every election across the country..
You-dumbo, holypants and zebraskin must all call your sister--mother.

McCAIN HAS BEEN RUNNING ON CHANGE FOR 30 YRS.. HE HAS GONE ACROSS PARTY LINES TO GET THINGS DONE (IE;CHANGE!) HE HAS WAITED A LONG TIME TO HAVE THIS CHANCE TO MAKE REAL CHANGE IN WASHINGTON! IF ELECTED HE WILL HAVE A CABINET OF DEMOCRATS AND INDEPENDANTS AND REPUBLICANS THAT HE HAS WORKED WITH OVER THE LAST 30 YRS! HE KNOWS THOSE IN WASHINGTON THAT WANT CHANGE BUT WERE TO AFRAID TO SPEAK UP FOR FEAR OF THIER PARTIES REPRISAL.. SO THOSE FOLKS WILL BE APPOINTED TO HIS CABINET ! NOW A QUESTION FOR YOU WHO WILL OBAMA PUT IN HIS CABINET ? WHO HAS HE WORKED WITH IN HIS SHORT TIME AS A U.S. SENATOR? AND WHO DOES HE KNOW IN WASHINGTON THAT WANTS REAL CHANGE ( NOT THE LIBERAL VERSION OF IT ) WHO ? IF YOU WANT A NSWER TO THIS YOU HAVE TWO OPTIONS (1) GO TO MOVE ON .ORG AND SEE WHO IS PAYING HS WAY INTO THE WHITE HOUSE ! OR (2) LOOK AT THE COMPANY HE HAS KEPT FOR THE LAST 20YRS ! THAT???S WHO HE WILL APPOINT TO HIS CABINET MAYBE NOT THOSE FOLKS .. BUT ONES EXACTLY LIKE THEM !

People have to show photo ID to buy alcohol too, Mr. Alter. Is that a racist policy?

• Posted By: Debster52 @ 09/13/2008 12:06:38 PM

Voting and buying liquor aren't the same things.

• Posted By: willnotvoteobama @ 09/15/2008 7:23:41 AM

UNLESS ACRON IS GIVING OUT BOOZE FOR VOTES !

• Posted By: SBfromCA @ 09/15/2008 2:56:14 AM

We Americans are so backwards! It's 21st century ! I can't believe people are still seeing "color" in candidates. Of course, as this article pointed, it's not racial, it's plitical. There must be some way to stop such unethical act by those "White-supremacy" southern states!!! How come nobody is talking about this?

• Posted By: Wazzu Coug @ 09/15/2008 2:37:17 AM

Republicans will pull out every stop to deny minorities their right to vote in the upcoming election. To them, it's 'just politics as usual." They will stop at nothing to win. McCain is another out of touch Washington insider who exhibits poor judgement. Remember "The Keating Five?" His wife should have been tried and convicted for drugs, but got away with it because of her deep pockets and family connections. And now he picks Palin. You've got to be kidding! McCain and Palin, they represent a "bridge to nowhere." I'd rather see Bush and Cheney remain in office. At least you know what you're getting with them. One's a complete idiot and the other is a pathological liar.

A simple thumb print would make the perfect voter ID. Won't work with dead people or voting multiple times.. But that is not what this is about.

All the talk about illegal voters, when the evidence is in the article that there is no such voting. What does happen is vote totals that exceed the number of registered voters, and in every case the excess is for the Republican. There are also dozens of other scams that somehow only favor Republicans

• Posted By: Corn Flake @ 09/14/2008 11:00:56 PM

Those pesky Republicans. How dare they try to disenfranchise dead people, terrorists and illegal aliens. And don't forget Fido, he wants to vote too!

• Posted By: YellowDog2008 @ 09/14/2008 10:35:08 PM

James Crow Jr., Esquire is alive and well. Republican chances are always hurt when turnout is high. They are currently pushing some of the above tactics to disenfranchise people whose homes have been foreclosed in Ohio and Nevada. If even a small percentage of those illegally disenfrancised in Florida and Ohio,(whose rights were later returned) had voted democratic the outcomes of the 2000 and 2004 elections would have been different. These vile Republican tactics are subjecting American democracy to the death of a thousand cuts.

• Posted By: YellowDog2008 @ 09/14/2008 10:29:37 PM

James Crow Junior, esquire is alive and well in the Republican Party. Large turnouts always hurt them. They are lying when they claim voter fraud is massive. Republicans are currently working to deny the vote to people who have lost their homes to foreclosure in Nevada and Ohio. Their voter suppression efforts are invariably aimed at poor and middle class people. We already know that a Democratic vote from even a small percent of the people denied the vote in 2000 in Florida, who had their rights restored after the election, would have shifted the outcome in 2000. A similar case can be made for Ohio in 2004. The Republican party is subjecting American democracy to the tactic of death by a thousand cuts...

• Posted By: rigorous honesty @ 09/14/2008 9:37:15 PM

From the tone of your article teh author is clearly attempting to rally support for the Democratic party and infer a racist bias upon the Republican party. . THe truth is that it is only logical to require identification to PREVENT fraud, not facilitate a benefit for either party. And another truth to consider is that polls have consistantly demonstrated that whites are roughly evenly divided betwen Mr Obama and Mr McCain, wheras @ 90% of blacks consistantly support Mr Obama. No honestly, WHO ARE THE RACISTS??

• Posted By: rigorous honesty @ 09/14/2008 9:27:55 PM

Of course the author fails to mention the successful Democratic efforts to disallow the absente ballotts from our servicicemen stationed overses. The motive was the predoninantly Republican orientation of our men in arms. The audacity and hypocrisy of a liberal democrat to accuse the republicans of such a maneuver. Shame on you--may you follow in the fotsteps of Mike Wallace

• Posted By: ericdrexil @ 09/14/2008 7:10:17 PM

This has been the problem for some time: voter suppresion. Voters have been so suppresed that democrats have won 3 out of the last 10 elections......Does anyone ever just say,"we got beat fair and square". No, no matter who loses;they always had the election stole from them. What losers.

• Posted By: njwffi @ 09/14/2008 6:52:32 PM

Most states are moving to requiring Id at the polls. To prevent fraud. I have within the last two years had to request a copy of my birth certificate as well as one for my elderly mother. She has never had a drivers license, and needs the ID to travel, after having lost her previous Id. We called the state she was born in, mailed the check for the Id and received it within two weeks of them having received the check. Hardly difficult. Just so you understand, she was born in 1920, delivered by a midwife. As far as issues like, polling places closing early, lost voter registration sheets, and not being able to vote due to your name being similar to a felons, these issues are issues that need to taken up with the county elections department. To blame everything on the GOP is like blaming the President because it is raining.

This is all they have to stop the most feared weapon in Obama's arsenal - turnout. He proved that he can double that in primaries in the mid Atlantic: specifically Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia (400,000 in the 2004 primary to 930,000 in the 2008 primary). The Republicans don't have a proven strategy for election fraud for this level of turnout. The SCOTUS Voter ID ruling stinks http://tinyurl.com/5b8wnz btw. Shame on Stevens.

Hey obamamohammeds...got some good news...it's not ya'lls fault....you are all victims.....it's a sickness....

Psychiatrist Confirms: Liberalism Is a Mental Disorder
As a clinical and forensic psychiatrist, Lyle Rossiter has treated over 1,500 patients and examined over 2,700 civil and criminal cases. Turning his hand to political psychopathology, the author of The Liberal Mind: The Psychological Causes of Political Madness, has diagnosed an alarming percentage of the population as suffering from the grotesque form of mental derangement known by some as moonbattery.

Among Rossiter's observations:

Based on strikingly irrational beliefs and emotions, modern liberals relentlessly undermine the most important principles on which our freedoms were founded. Like spoiled, angry children, they rebel against the normal responsibilities of adulthood and demand that a parental government meet their needs from cradle to grave.
A social scientist who understands human nature will not dismiss the vital roles of free choice, voluntary cooperation and moral integrity ??? as liberals do. A political leader who understands human nature will not ignore individual differences in talent, drive, personal appeal and work ethic, and then try to impose economic and social equality on the population ??? as liberals do. And a legislator who understands human nature will not create an environment of rules which over-regulates and over-taxes the nation's citizens, corrupts their character and reduces them to wards of the state ??? as liberals do.
The roots of liberalism ??? and its associated madness ??? can be clearly identified by understanding how children develop from infancy to adulthood and how distorted development produces the irrational beliefs of the liberal mind. When the modern liberal mind whines about imaginary victims, rages against imaginary villains and seeks above all else to run the lives of persons competent to run their own lives, the neurosis of the liberal mind becomes painfully obvious.
Basically liberalism is a willful failure to mature beyond adolescence that can have catastrophic consequences for society. With luck, the official diagnosis of this disease by a mental health professional will facilitate the search for a cure.

NOBAMA!!!

Aren???t Bigots?!!

Senator Obama:

Everyone knows John McCain is out of touch, old and has dementia???but he is a hate and fear monger and a liar. He has implied you are a traitor, a protector of sexual perverts, etc. You need to inundate the airwaves with Democratic female leaders addressing McCain???s position on issues especially important to women; military veterans who have been abandoned by Senator McCain; and let people understand that McCain???s health care plan is everyone for his/herself and that his tax policies are noting but trickle down voodoo economics. You need black, brown, yellow, white Americans with music by Toby Keith and voice over by Tommy Lee Jones pointing out how horribly un-American Senator McCain has actually become.

Our prayers are with you.
