i think all liberals are not scared of palin, not one bit at all. I think most people who sided with obama are worried about how many dumb americans will fall for palin: that being mom and with no serious international knowledge are the only qualifications to be vp or potus. It is not palin we are scared. We are worried that how many stupid and dumb people will fall for the karl rove and mccain lies. Palin is a puppet to mccain and karl rove. I can double dare you that if the three of them were in a room, palin will be on the side line watching( probably can't even watch, maybe ask her to get coffee). she doesn't have a say in the mccain administration. Mccain just will be the same old same mccain siding with bush. Mccain admit that he doesn't understand economics. McCain is so much more willing to use the military means to resolve problem than Obama. Obama prefers diplomatic first, a lot like President Clinton. If you are a working mom, think about your childrens future, think about your pockets, think about if you have enough money to support your family, think about education that your children will recieve, think about your teenage going to college and with possible help from the $4000 college fund, think about if a possible war with russia (is that what you want? and think about a draft because our military is stretch too much, a war with russia means draft), think about health care that the possibility of an almost universal health care (if you have an accident or illiness, hopefully not, can you afford it?) think about if you have no right to abortion) think about all those things. Then you can see that the choice is clear. That Obama is your guy for POTUS.

I am a conservative christian evangelical white male.In this magazine, that's reason enough to be shot on sight . McCain had me heading for the write in ballot....until Sarah Palin.

Fear not faithfull ones. I will pray the gay away and all will be righteous and holy in this land. And Jesus spoke from the mountain top "thou shalt vote Republican in every election or thou shalt burn in hell if thou does not. Thou shalt not lust after health care for all nor shalt thou help those in poverty. Thou shalt practice economic and social discrimination. Thou shalt fear all those not like us. Thou shalt not worship false gods unless it's James Dobson. These are my words, the words of Ralph Reed--I mean God." PS don't forget to make a contribution to Focus on the Family. We need to keep the our ministries going full steam. It costs a lot to fly around on private jets and attend shin digs in Washington.

Will somebody please post what the hell is wrong with Barack Obama.. Is he running against Gov Palin? She seems to have thrown him completely off stride...

Maybe we should have paid more attention to Hillary.. She would have ran Ms Palin back to other wilds of Alaska and moose hunting by now...

C'mon Senator Obama, get it together.. It is still yours to lose.

Rube hit it right on. If we let John McSame get away with this, then we are more stupid than I thought... Democrats out number Republicans by a large margin.. Just get off your asses and vote and stop this madness.

The Democrats will never beat the Republicans at being dis-honest. They invented "politics of mass destruction" and they remain very good at it.

For those of you who keep thinking that the "people will see through this come to their senses", don't count on it.. It seems Gov Palin has completely taken common sense off the table and replaced it with John MCSame's lies and deceptions.

We get what we vote for people... If you don't vote - shut up and don't complain... It really is in your hands.

It never ceases to amaze me that philosophers, scholars, and writers in droves write about the current fleecing of our constitution our nation, and of the American middle class.

All the while conservatives continue to flock to right-wing evangelists, tabloid pundits and GOP theology!
After 7 and a half years of GOP subversion what does the nation have to show? An economy in shambles, unfinished wars more on the horizon and debt so enormous China and other foreign countries now own much of our nations remaining equity!

Conservatism is a dismal failure, the proof is in your house equity, your bank accounts, your paycheck, it???s on Wallstreet, its on the shelves of your supermarket, its on the corner gas station, its in Job loss,
on the streets and deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan.

It???s in the defiance of our present GOP leaders by Pakistan, Russia, Venezuela and now China!

And so the same old personal song and dance about character, vision and dignity play out across the nation. Remeber this, ???Bush has character, he has vision, he is honest, experienced!??? We all know the truth of this aberration.

We all know conservatives want to plug in the same theology the same ideology from yet another legislator that represents the betrayal, the greed and the duplicity that has buried us to this point!

Great nations are upheld and wars are won or lost by the rightness and decency of the participants!
As our nations history goes we have never lost a war when we were right but now we have lost wars because we were ideologically wrong!
It???s not just about strength its about wisdom and justice.
Such American qualities that have been inactive during the past seven plus years due to conservative politics!
It right in front of you open your eyes and read!

Actually, especially for the benefit of uneducated Cuban-Americans, what Marx said was "religion is the opiate of the masses" I fear that we are headed towards becoming a fascist theocracy where an angry killing god is glorified in a spirit of self-righteous evangelical furor, where celebrity, fashion and lies are spewed forth by the Goebbels-like Republican Ministry For Propaganda in an attempt to steer the election away from the issues confronting the American people. The American Taliban of Christian Fundamentalists seeks to establish a one party theocracy that will dictate their values and way of life on the rest of us similar to Iran and Nazi Germany. These people mean it when they chant/sing "Onwards Christian Soldiers, Marching As to War", they are actively seeking the end times of the Apocalypse and Armageddon regardless of whether the rest of us want any part of it or not.

Hey. Tell that to Senator Biden. I was just quoting him.

      • Posted By: RiversideWarrior @ 09/12/2008 5:45:56 PM

Its irrelelvant as to who said it when you consider that the statement does have some merit, referring to thos religious idealogues who lack IQ and/or education who blindly follow what their shaman has ordered them to do even if it is directly against their personal interests. The American Taliban's "agents of intolerance" (quoting John McCain in 2000) political agenda of enslaving all Americans is well known.

Today, cultural conservatives are trying to force the society at large to adopt their cultural agenda. To have the central government adopt these religion-based ideas is directly in contradiction with the founding principles of our country, namely, the right to practice ones religion freely. Institutionalizing one worldview is the essential effort of the culture war so recently reignited by Sarah Palin and propelling politically a man who doesn???t even share that worldview. In no other country in the world is the idea of evolution debated except in the United States by the Religious Right. No other democratic society rationalizes the use of torture in self-defense. The cultural centerpiece of their movement is to establish abortion as murder, but no objective person can believe that a clump of cells in the early stages of human development is the same thing as a human being. This view can only be seen as a religious view. My religion, Judaism, believes that the life and the rights of the babies should only be recognized when the fetus can survive independent of the womb. I don???t suggest that everyone should share this view (although a majority of Americans do) but I do insist that our rights to govern our lives by our own principles and religious beliefs be protected.
Abraham Lincoln fought for a democratic government in which the majority view, although unpalatable to significant segment of the society was allowed to prevail. A view that was ultimately consistent with the tenets of the Constitution. The cultural war is not the civil war by any means, but it seeks to divide the country against itself and thereby deprive us all of the opportunity to successfully tackle crucial problems that we confront as a country. It is just as true today that ???a house divided upon itself cannot stand.??? If we persist in turning one segment of society against the rest we will all suffer. The central thesis of the Obama campaign is that we should no longer pray to the idol of Cultural Revolution, but put our differences aside and surprisingly as John McCain says, ???Put Country First,??? but not with Sarah Palin and a new cultural war. It may not get peoples blood boiling, it may not be ???sexy,??? but staying on the issues and abstaining from a new cultural war in the disguise of a sweet hockey-mom is not in our country???s interest.

    VOTING MANIPULATION
State Republicans, though, have a plan to give the McCain campaign an edge: suppress the vote.
The chairman of the Republican Party in Macomb County Michigan, a key swing county in a key swing state, is planning to use a list of foreclosed homes to block people from voting in the upcoming election as part of the state GOP's effort to challenge some voters on Election Day. "We will have a list of foreclosed homes and will make sure people aren't voting from those addresses," party chairman James Carabelli told Michigan Messenger in a telephone interview earlier this week. He said the local party wanted to make sure that proper electoral procedures were followed.

State election rules allow parties to assign "election challengers" to polls to monitor the election. In addition to observing the poll workers, these volunteers can challenge the eligibility of any voter provided they "have a good reason to believe" that the person is not eligible to vote. One allowable reason is that the person is not a "true resident of the city or township."

The Michigan Republicans' planned use of foreclosure lists is apparently an attempt to challenge ineligible voters as not being "true residents."

The scheme would, of course, disproportionately affect African-American families in the area, who are more likely to vote Democratic, and more likely to be in foreclosure as a result of sub-prime loans.

This is just part of a "comprehensive voter-challenge campaign" Michigan Republicans are launching this year, which will coordinate with the regional McCain campaign to train volunteers in challenging those who wish to vote on Election Day. (Whether the foreclosure-driven scheme will be implemented statewide is unclear.)

Asked about the GOP's efforts, Carabelli said, "I would rather not tell you all the things we are doing."

"and more likely to be in foreclosure as a result of sub-prime loans"....Why???

Remind me what an "evangelical" is. My grandma was a Pentecostal Baptist, and when I went to her church I saw people speak in tongues and fall on the floor, as they did in the video of Sarah Palin's Assembly of God. But my Grandma never talked about any "rapture", where God would come and kill everybody horribly who wasn't in her church. She didn't wait for any angels to come and beam her up to some kind of flying saucer while God rained grief, pain, terror, and torment on her political enemies. How is it now Christian to call for war, promote famine and plague and death, and work to bring about the Apocalypse because you think that's God's plan?
We would line up across the stage and sing, "Red and yellow, black and white, we are precious in his sight.
Jesus loves the little children of the world." Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John were the evangelists, right? When did that change so much?

I'm not a believer now, but Obama's religion is more like my Grandma's.

McCain campaign has tried to make this election about character to distract people from the issues of the econonmy, energy, abortion etc...He and the rest of the Republicans who claim to be such Christians and Country first has shown much contradiction in the last 8 yrs. McCain is an adulterer and womanizer, he is surrounded with Lobbyists and will use his power as President if elected to help out the rich and powerful as he did in the Keating 5 scandal. More scandal with Bush appointees having sex with Oil Execs in exchange for govt contracts. Homosexual scandals with Mark Foley, Larry Craig and Haggerty. They claim country first but put a CIA operative (Valerie Plame) in harms way because of a disagreement politically.

People look at McCain's tax policies his position on healthcare. Government has to take a lead with healthcare for it to be done correctly. Obama's tax plan will give each family making under 250k a 1200.00 tax break McCain gives 314.00 but his rich friends will get 7000.00, check it out on CNN they broke it down. Hillary's healthcare plan and Obama's are very similar. The Democrats historically has done better for the country's economy. Don't let the GOP smear campaign blind you for getting more for your families.

Obama has been right about Afghanistan McCain has been wrong and all his puffing up to Russia and Iran will just get us into deeper conflict that we can't afford to get into. NO McBUSH McSAME 100 yr WAR McCain NO COUNTRY FOR YOU ANGRY OLD MAN

What does "evangelical" mean these days?
My grandma was a Pentecostal Baptist. When I went to her church, I did see people fall down and speak in "tongues", like I saw in the Video of Palin's Assembly of God.

But Grandma never talked about any "rapture" where god would come and kill everybody horribly, except for her church members. I'm sure there's no scripture that says it is Christian to preach for war, famine, grief, horror, torment and suffering around the world because these are the last days, and you're on a mission from God to bring about the Apocalypse. It's okay to promote war, because angels are coming in a flying saucer to beam you up? My Grandma never heard of that. We lined up across the stage and sang, "Red and yellow, black and white, we are precious in his sight, Jesus loves the little children of the world."

The evangelists were Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John, weren't they? Barack Obama seems to follow THAT gospel. I am not now a believer, but Obama is the same religion as my Grandma, and Palin isn't.

Biden poot his fut in his mouth again today. After being confronted with Obama's statement that "bitter" Americans "cling" to religion, Biden said: "So what?. Barack was just echoing what Karl Marx said more than 150 years ago. OK? .... Marx said that religion is the opium of the people.......I think he said opium. Might have said Vicodin.... I don't recall if they had Vicodin back then. They might have. Those germans were good chemists.........But You get the point. OK? .....There is not a single political science Ivy League professor who
would dispute that. You can go down the entire East Coast from Boston down to Philadelphia. That is where the Liberty Bell is at. How about those Phillies?.....As I was saying... that was Karl Marx folks. No greater authority than that. And that is what Barack and I are fighting for.......Change. You get the point. OK. I hope
this clears the air. " Amazing. Unbelievable. What is Biden going to say next?
