Comment: Considering Republican Presidents have appointed 7 of the current 9 Supreme Court Justices, 5 of the last 7 Presidents have been Republicans, and until 2 years ago, controlled both houses of congress, I understand why many voters feel the Republican Party represents their interests. With all the prosperity the Republicans have brought to Michigan, Ohio, West Virginia, or the entire country for that matter, I don't blame them for sticking with what they see as the party that represents their values. Personally, I drive a German Car and made just under 100K last year. Even though my heart is with the Democrats, I do better under the Republicans (liberal east coast "elitist" with a Masters Degree). I'm sure this time the Republicans will deliver economic good times to those who are less fortunate financially.

Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again hoping for different results. How have the Republicans -- since they sided with the religious reactionaries and started spraying America with supply-side economics -- ever sided with the little guy? They're the party of supposed wealth... even though there are more high-level billionaire Dems than Repubs.

Sarah Palin represents me as an American. I am enthusiastic about this election ONLY because of Sarah Palin. The day she was selected was the day I donated to the campaign and volunteered.

I look forward to Sarah Palin elected to office in Nov. 08.

If polls really matter to you, SEA Orgy, then look what SUSA is saying. Last week McCain was leading in Virginia by 2 points, but now Obama is ahead (50% Obama, 46% Mccain). And several other polls are showing signs that McCain is slowly drifting...

The Obama campaign is said to be deeply divided over the role that Michelle Obama should play over the next few weeks. Some are urging a more visible role for Michelle and would like to see Mrs. Obama take some swings at Palin. One strategy is to have Michelle point out Palin's lack of education by saying: "Palin probably has never even heard of the Ivy League. She probably thinks that Cornell is some kind of wart. Palin probably does not even know what is a liberal arts college. She probably thinks that it is where liberals send their kids to study painting."

I really do hope the Obama campaign sends his wife out it will assure a Mcain win. Most liberals think the average American looks at academia the same way they do your wrong we prefer people who get and go to work.Obamas wife will bury his campaign, eventually her true feelings about white Americans will come out.

They must have Michelle on a very short leash at this point! Keep reminding America that she will be First Lady and he will lose.

News Flash: Britain adopts Islamic law....

Islamic law has been officially adopted in Britain, with sharia courts given powers to rule on Muslim civil cases.

The government has quietly sanctioned the powers for sharia judges to rule on cases ranging from divorce and financial disputes to those involving domestic violence.

Rulings issued by a network of five sharia courts are enforceable with the full power of the judicial system, through county courts or the country's High Court, a part of its Supreme Court system.

Previously, the rulings of sharia courts in Britain could not be enforced, and depended on voluntary compliance among Muslims.

This weekend I walked the neighborhoods in my town for the Obama campaign. The area I walked was across the street from a company that closed in July - it was the largest employer in my town. The far right and the far left sling mud and make up stories about each other, but that doesn't help the people I talked to this weekend one bit. I got a few who won't vote for "a black", and a born againg christian who thought the only issue that matters is abortion, but most of the people I talked to recognize that the economic policies of the last 8 years have done terrible things to this country. I think it will all come down to turn out. McCain said the economy is basically sound, just today. I think if you are as wealthy as he and Cindy are, it probably is.

    Public Safety Commissioner dismissal

Main article: Alaska Public Safety Commissioner dismissal

On July 11, 2008, Sarah Palin dismissed Public Safety Commissioner Walter Monegan, citing performance-related issues, such as not being a team player on budgeting issues. Monegan alleged that his dismissal was retaliation for his failure to fire Palin???s former brother-in-law, Alaska State Trooper Mike Wooten, who was involved in a child custody battle with Palin???s sister. Governor Palin stated on July 17 that no pressure had been applied upon Monegan to fire Wooten.

In July, Palin's ethics advisor urged her to apologize for "overreaching or perceived overreaching" to get Wooten fired. Palin publicly acknowledged in August that "pressure could have been perceived to exist, although I have only now become aware of it." She also apologized to Alaskans for the distraction.

On August 1, the Alaska Legislature hired an independent investigator to review the situation.

The investigation is scheduled to be completed in October 2008. On August 13, after an internal investigation, Palin acknowledged that her staff had contacted Monegan or his staff about two dozen times regarding Wooten. Palin placed the Alaska Director of Boards and Commissions on paid leave as a result of one tape-recorded call. She stated that she had only known about some of the contacts, that many of those contacts were appropriate, and restated she had not fired Monegan because of Wooten, who is still employed as a state trooper.

On September 1, Palin's lawyer asked the state Legislature to drop its investigation, saying that by state law, the governor-appointed state Personnel Board had jurisdiction over ethics issues. Palin also asked that the Board review the matter as an ethics complaint.

Palin's choice to replace Monegan, Charles M. Kopp, chief of the Kenai police department, was named to the position on July 11, 2008. He resigned on July 25 after it was revealed that he had received a letter of reprimand for sexual harassment in his previous position.

On September 12th, Associated Press reported that the bipartisan Alaska's State Senate committee investigating abuse of power investigation against Sarah Palin decided to subpoena Todd Palin, her husband.

CNN) -- Sen. John McCain has inched ahead of Sen. Barack Obama in national polls, but the Democratic candidate holds a steady lead in the most Recent Electoral College Estimates.

In national surveys, McCain leads by 2 points, 47 percent to 45 percent, according to CNN's poll of polls released Monday night.

In the Electoral College standings, the most recent survey shows [2430 Electoral Votes] either safely in Obama's column or leaning his way.

At this point, McCain can claim only [189].

Many of the state polls used to determine the Electoral College standings, however, were conducted before the conventions.

On Saturday, Obama was up by 3 in the poll of polls. That lead shrank to just 1 point Sunday before disappearing Monday.

In the most recent survey, 8 percent of respondents said they were still unsure about who they were going to vote for.

The poll of polls is an average of five surveys: CNN (September 5-7), ABC/Washington Post (September 5-7), CBS (September 5-7), Gallup (September 5-7) and Diageo/Hotline (September 5-7). The poll of polls does not have a sampling error.

The CNN/Opinion Research Corp. poll released Monday shows McCain and Obama tied at 48 percent.

The poll, which was conducted Friday through Sunday, carries a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. It was based on 1,022 telephone interviews.
Republicans are hoping that if McCain can close the popular vote gap, he can also make gains in the electoral gap.

The Electoral College will ultimately decide who takes over the White House.

Although polls across the country are open on one day, the election is not a national poll but a series of [51 State-Level Elections] that Decide the members of the Electoral College.

Newsweek - based on the ground game and people continuing to grow and give to Obama's grassroots campaign - I think your anaylis of the map and the election thus far are WAY OFF THE MARK!! You guys are not taking into account the youth vote, the student vote, the minority vote - which accounts for almost more than 50% of the entire electorate?!! Are you kidding me? What a joke your column is becoming on the reporting of polls and the electoral vote speculation you are doing. I know its your business to expand ratings for your network at all costs - but this is just irresponsible. The polling conducted only calls "land lines" of older americans at home. Most middle class working families are at work and use a cell phone!!! Give me a break!

Bump - Re: McC picked Palin just because she's a woman
That's like a Republican saying that the Democrats chose Obama just because he's
African-American. Or initially Hillary just because she's Bill's wife or because
    she's a woman or both.
    -------------
No, Obama was not chosen because he was an African-American, but because he embodies the best hope America can have in repairing its global image tarnished by Republicans' arrogance. He also embodies the hopes and dreams of young Americans. In the history of our nation, young citizens for the first time flocked to Obama in huge numbers, especially during the primaries.
And it was not because Hillary was Bill's wife, but because she is a formidable, cunning politician. What is Sarah Palin? A conservative, wolf killing, hypocrite and liar. Sure, Obama and Hillary lied, but we have enver witnessed the sleaziest political machine shown by McCain's camapign tactics. McCain knew that he needed to dramaticaly alert his camapign by gambling riskily. And we know he loves to gamble.

When your spending 10 billion a month on a war, something has to give on the otherside of paying for it? The opinions express in this Newsweek Blog is about Divide we Fail. There is some serious stuff going on and very few have it upon the larger concerns. 4000-4500 American men and women have fallen this Vietnam Type War, which is always good for the economy, nice to know what companies t buy stock in, who will be supporting different type of needs needed ($10Billion a month), Did your know that all the major US oil companies, Exxon-Mobil, Chervon- Shell etc. had contracts with the Iraqi Government which were cancelled( Cheney Move to disquise the Chinese loans to Bush for oil) and given to the Chinese National Petro Company to process there oil reserves. I could go on and on but I've learned one thing since and about the Vietnam Conflict where 50,000 brave brothers and sister got sold out once again. President Johnson's family where the major share holders in Bell Heilcopters, and start company making Helicopters, needed something big to produce more, ah, a Jungle war, Perfect. Many others reasons also the powerful and rich and Corportate America to achieve wealth at the expense of the poor, less fortunate, etc. America is the best, Love my Country ,Watch your Government. (Big time, for they have never been about you or us). It is now time to put America First, One of Obama's commitment is to make Federal Government transparent on C-Span. Show WHO, HOW MUCH, WHY, WHO BENEFITS, WE must take this government back one way or other, we all are being played like fools. I'm going Obama, and willing to give him and his Motley Crew 4 yrs. We need to recall career politicians, TERM LIMITS 8 yrs. for all, good enough for a President good enough for Congress and House of Do Nothings. We need a true Independent Party, not American Independent, I went Independent 34 yrs. ago, they said your a American Independent Party, No I'm Independent of all you Dumb Asses. Voting for the first time in 30-34 years, its time to unite Independents, Dems, Reps that think outside the box. Sorry for you bloggers that express you DAddies or Mommies polictics, some are very shallow in knowledge but run there mouths on Palin, MCCain, Obama, Biden character and personalities, which is old move to divide and conquer. This is certainly good news! McCain is like the tortoise slow and steady while Obama is like the hare off to a good start. Of course it could just be a blip and we will go back to an Obama lead. My guess is that this is as good as it gets for McCain in the polls but he shouldn't worry because it has been my suspicion all along that the polls do reflect a bradly effect (people lying to pollsters based on race).

I bet the bradley effect is at least three pecentage points which means that Obama's consistent lead in the past has been closer to a tie than the polls would indicate. Now that it is a dead heat in polling, the bradley effect puts McCain in the lead 49 -43 using the 3 point swing. I've always been suspicious of the notion that a black man with the most liberal voting record in the Senate would waltz into the White House.

America has changed in terms of race for the better (less prejudiced) but it has not undergone a sea change. It would take a sea change to put a black man into the White House. People have the perception that this is possible due to the liberal media. But liberal media cheering for Obama can't get him into the White House. America may have changed on race more than I perceive it to have done so, in which case Obama may squeak in but he will never waltz into the White House, not with less than 40% of the white electorate.

Either way this election will be historic. For the first time a ticket with a woman on it (albeit a conservative one) will possibly win in November. The last time a woman was on the ticket (a liberal one), it went down in flames (less than 42% of the popular vote)!

Palin has brought needed attention to the McCain campaign. Obama should have picked Hillary, and he is kicking himself for it. Biden is a bore. Now people are realizing McCain really isn't much like Bush at all. Palin doesn't hold a candle to Hillary, but her selection reminds voters how grave Obama's mistake was in passing her over for Biden

I doubt Obama could survive four years of Hillary & Billary! The Presidency isn't worth your sanity!

  • Posted By: adelina @ 09/15/2008 10:27:39 AM

Biden as VP? that's what you call bad judgement. It took Obama 2 months to come up with a loser. Can you imagine Obama running this country during a military crisis or deciding whether to go to war or no? Prepared to be president? I doubt it.

    • Posted By: summer4077 @ 09/15/2008 12:16:41 PM

Hey at least Obama put some THOUGHT into his pick. McCain chose Palin, then his lackeys scrambled off to Alaska to haphazardly vet her. McCain is not an educated, intelligent man. Typically, Presidents that are not intelligent men are not good presidents (obviously). Do we really want another rich, old, out of touch WASP in office?

      • Posted By: partridge @ 09/15/2008 1:00:38 PM

He obviously didn't think very correctly on the VP spot. Obama didn't even consider her. Obama can think all he wants, but he still makes stupid choices.

Well you know it takes a while for his group of 300 to figure anything out for him

According to radio commentator Mario (Cantinflas) Moreno, Biden has been told by Obama that unless he starts delivering some body blows to McCain he will be asked to step aside in favor of Hillary Clinton. Stay tuned.

      Hey Josemarti,

Re: Biden???s out ... Hillary???s in. Stay tuned!

(Not sure if you've already responded to this comment and question):

That's probably the plan! Somehow, someway, Joe Biden steps out of the VP position and guess what?

      WOW! WOW!! WOW!!! TRIPLE WOW!!!!

      A new media frenzy!

HILLARY'S BACK IN THE SPOT LIGHT! HILLARY ACCEPTS OBAMA'S NEW OFFER TO JOIN THE TICKET! THE GULLIBLE DEMOCRATS & MEDIA GO WILD! HOOOOORAY!!! HOOORAH!

IT'S BRILLIANT! Better than a Hollywood script!!! The MEDIA would pee all over themselves. OMG! They wouldn't know what to do. Sarah who?! HILLS BACK!!!

So what do you think Josemarti? Has the script already been written? My guess is YES. BO's camp thinks that the America people are stupid and/or gullible. As if we don't know what they're up to. Honestly, watching the Democrats in action is like watching a poorly written B Flick with a predictable ending. For Pete sake get new writers would you!!!

      • Posted By: Concerned Ctzn @ 09/15/2008 12:55:23 PM

I could definitely see this happening. Obama's getting desperate!

      • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/15/2008 12:26:57 PM

Right now I am an undecided Democrat. The republicans have made a mess of the country with Bush at the helm. McCain is not very much like Bush. Obama has not done enough to humble himself and reach out to Hillary supporters. If he boots Biden for Hillary, however, I would see hillary's name on the ballot and would enthusiastically vote for Obama. His first presidential decision of selecting Biden SUCKS

      • Posted By: josemarti @ 09/15/2008 11:57:39 AM

We should all watch today's Biden speech in Michigan. Biden is expected to attack McCain hard. But I am telling you, if the attacks proves to be ineffectual, look for Obama to ask Biden to withdraw so that he can choose Hillary. There is deep concern in the Obama camp that Biden's heart may not be in it because of his long friendship with McCain.

  • Posted By: SEA Observer @ 09/15/2008 12:53:00 PM

Biden become a pit bull in Michigan today. Who wants to bet that Michigan will be leaning to McCain by Wed?

  • Posted By: HolyRoller @ 09/15/2008 8:42:44 AM

Hey Goober...you are really showing your ignorance this A.M. Your post....................

NOTE: OBAMA IS CLOSEST TO THE [270 ELECTORAL VOTES] HE ALREADY HAS [248 ELECTORAL VOTES] ALL HE HAS TO DO IS GET THERE [1ST] OR BEFORE MCCAIN AND HE WINS !!!!

    MCCAIN HAS [188 ELECTORAL VOTES]

GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR A!!!

Goober....They BOTH have...0...none...nada....electoral votes. These are awarded by votes per state, on Nov.4/ELECTION DAY. It is not polling numbers., that actually count. You really are from the Gaza aren't you?

    • Posted By: benkrapf @ 09/15/2008 9:48:51 AM

Gaza is quite pretty, actually. All people such as yourself think about is violence and oil, so it's not surprising you would consider coming from Gaza to be a bad thing, as if all Gazans are terrorists.

Wake up, Repubbies. The world is only out to get us because we are out to get them.

Change your state of mind and practice peace. See how little we get bombed.

You want an issue...you need to look at that NY Post article I posted below....looks
like Obama is violating the Logan Act...if he isn't careful he'll be chareged with
    a felony.
    -----------------

Hehehehehe. That shows how intellectually low you are! Notice the link is to an OPINION
page, not a news release. And after reading it, it is a crappy cosnervative spreading
the trash ... trying to scatter the trash all over the world. Also keep in mind that
the NY Post is a conservative paper which endorsed McCain after the alin pick. Nonetheless,
the question about Obama's Iraq trip is not a news release, but an opinion posted
udner the NY Post to tease the brains of gullible voters.

Yeah Quoting a senior Iraqi Minister about Obama is only an Op-Ed....
I guess it's only ok for Your candidate to violate federal law then? He is after all your messiah right?
Keep in mind that Newsweek, MSNBC, CNN and ABC are all liberal news orgs that are heavily slanting news to keep Obama in a positive light...and guess what....He is still losing in the polls..
Well good talking to you Harley....later.

    "Bridge(s) to Nowhere"

Over 1000 People Protested this Woman in Alaska !!!

See also: Gravina Island Bridge and Knik Arm Bridge (Don Young's Way)
Two Alaskan bridge construction proposals supported by Palin in her 2006 gubernatorial race have been derided as a symbol of pork barrel spending: a proposed bridge connecting Ketchikan to Gravina Island (population 50) where its airport lies, and a proposed bridge ("Don Young's Way", named after Alaska's Congressman) crossing Knik Arm to provide an alternate route from Anchorage to Wasilla. The nickname "Bridge(s) to Nowhere" has been used for the Gravina Island Bridge alone or, more rarely, both bridges.

In 2005, Congress earmarked $442 million to build the two bridges but later reversed itself under strong criticism and gave the transportation money to Alaska with no strings attached.[94] In 2006, Palin ran for governor on a "build-the-bridge" platform,

attacking "spinmeisters" for insulting local residents by calling them "nowhere" and urging speed "while our congressional delegation is in a strong position to assist."[97] About two years after the introduction of the bridge proposals, a month after the bridge received sharp criticism from John McCain,[98] and nine months into Palin's term as governor, Palin canceled the Gravina Bridge, blaming Congress for not providing enough funding. Alaska will not return any of the $442 million to the federal government and is spending a portion of the funding, $25 million, on a Gravina Island road to the place where the bridge would have gone, expressly so that none of the money will have to be returned. Palin continues to support funding Don Young's Way, estimated as more than twice as expensive as the Gravina Bridge would have been.

In her nomination acceptance speech and on the campaign trail, Palin has often said: "I told the Congress 'thanks, but no thanks,' for that Bridge to Nowhere." Although Palin was originally a main proponent of the bridge, McCain-Palin television advertisements claim Palin "stopped the Bridge to Nowhere". These claims have been widely questioned or described as misleading in several newspapers across the political spectrum. Newsweek, commenting on Palin's "astonishing pivot," remarked: "Now she talks as if she always opposed the funding."
