Democratic supporters are tired of losing while Republican supporters have become too complacent about winning. This ultimately explains the McCain-Palin "surge" coverage, as well as the Jimmy Carter-like fall from grace sobbing from Democrats. Regarding these poll numbers, I believe commentators are delivering the wrong assessment: Barack Obama has held his own. His campaign has just suffered the worst two weeks of the season - having his message of change co-opted and forcing him to fight a "two front war" between John McCain and Sarah Palin. Before The DNC, the polls suggested the election was deadlocked. It still is.
Let me remind readers of one other point. In 2004, after the RNC, George Bush had a 10 point lead in the polls. After the first debate, George Bush and John Kerry were tied in the polls. Because the candidates are deadlocked, the debates could be key factor in deciding this election. If the debates are viewed as a "blowout" for one of the candidates, a 10 point swing either way will have a profound impact.

She was for the bridge to nowhere before she was against it (then kept the money) -- there are multiple videos showing this.

She claims she did not support sucessionist party 'Alaska First' -- watch youtube to see her support speech at their convention.

She claims she was in Iraq, and Army records contradict this -- maybe she was lost.

She claims she visited Ireland -- touchdown, but did not get out of the plane.

Clams to be a deficit hawk, but when she became mayor of Wasilla the town had no debt, now 13 million in debt.

Sold a plane on ebay? Not!!

Foreign policy experience -- has seen the Russian coast from Alaska. Ha, ha, ha...

Claims Alaska produces 20% of US energy - more like 3.8%.

Special interests - how about all those oil companies.

No lobbyist - oops, Wasilla paid 30k for a washington lobbyist.

Support for special needs kids, nice but empty words -- she cut special needs budgets by 62%.

    Wow !!!

Palin will be sitting at one of those 50's style Samsonite card tables in the white House boiler room for an office if McSham wins. If women think he will remember her name for a second after he is sworn in then that is just a good argument against 'womens suffrage'.

  • Posted By: wheelboy @ 09/14/2008 4:21:52 PM

Palin is going to end up sitting in one of those strap 50's style lawn chairs in the boiler room of the White House for an office if McCain is elected. If these women think for a minute he is going to know her name after the elections they are stupid.

I am heartsick. I began college in 1969. I truly felt that my generation believed in peace and brotherhood. I truly believed that we were going to create an equal and honorable society. Look what we have done. We gave the world George Bush; we lie to go to war; we have created an elitist and corrupt society; we are in incredible debt. This is the world that we have created to leave to our children and grandchildren.
Some of the women whom I stood beside in the women???s movement are allowing their own strong-willed nature to become more important that the general good they have struggled for. They are letting the symbol of our movement (Hillary Clinton) become more important that the causes she stands for. For God sakes, will Americans really vote for McCain and Palin? Will they really vote to continue the path we have been following during the last eight years??? Women, wake up and remember your souls.

Tens of thousands of POW's have had the frightening, abusive experience but did not USE IT to obtain political power. I am SICK of McCain using this POW thing, crying and whining, and bragging about his experience as if he is one of the FEW americans to have gone through this. He is a user for ultimate power and privilege that goes with it. The Dems should "swift boat" him with the other POW's WHO DIDN'T USE their experience to gain advantage and power.
McCain is one of the slickest, and sickest politicians around. His ego is so sick, he liked to create the status of "Marverick" by going against his party, etc., but then he talks out of BOTH SIDES OF HIS MOUTH, depending on which will get him ahead further. Just to show how much he cares about anything other than his own promotion, he chooses a VP candidate that is an insult to the process of electing the highest #2 office within the government. McCain has one foot in the grave already with his age, yet doesn't care about what would happen if he kicked the bucket in a year.... he'd rather win the election with trickery. It's all about him.
I'd rather see Mickey Mouse be President. This in no way insults Barak Obama; however I certainly think the best President would have been Hilliary. We aren't that fortunate that the American people would have been smart enough to see she was the best in all the country for this job. I like Obama, but no one could compare to the competency, organization, and pure brain power of H.Clinton. It was an opportunity lost.

But regarding these "polls" coming out every 5 minutes for everything from which candidate takes more time to go to the bathroom,(lol) to which one the American people "trust" more, etc., etc., Here is my opinion of these polls:
Does anyone here REALLY believe these things? Shouldn't we have learned decades ago, these polls are fixed, and percentages "are thrown out there" depending on how bent the polltakers are to one side or the other. You cannot trust a lot of the crap thrown out there in the media; particularly nowdays. Repubs depend on the ever growing dumbing down of the American people, and on manipulating that.

Will the sleeping giant EVER wake up?

They will say anything about Obma to whip up votes, scare up votes, nomatter how untrue these allegations. After all , Adolf Hitler became history's greatest dictator by scaring up votes and by riding anti-Jewish waves, even though Germans may not have supported the killing of Jews on a scale the Nazis did.
Now, the GOP is trying to trickle voters into allowing them to remain in power by lying about their opponent. Obama is a Muslim; Obama is a communist; Obama is a terrorist or a friend of a terrorist (a distinguished professor of education, not a criminal, Professor Bill Ayers); Obama is not a patriot (because he rejects party/nationalist labels and insists on ONE Americaa), etc. Whatever debunked, whatever falseholds conservatives can dream up, that is a reflection of the way dictators like Hitler won power.

I don't think that McCain will hold a lead on Obama, he's not original, he's quick tempered, he does not think his decisions throughly and he's making this race very sexist and this is not appealing to voters. Also, the fact that he selected Palin as his running mate, will ultimately run it's path as she continues to embark on being interviewed alone! The McCain/Palin ticket emphasizes change and reform, however, both are not adhering to these issues! The earmarks released to Alaska, should have been returned and Palin has not valid reasoning behind keeping these funds. McCain/Palin are just talk whereas Obama/Biden speak of actually changing America for all citizens. McCain/Palin don't want businesses accountable, want to inflate the military budget and cut Medicare and Social Security and not raise taxes for the wealthly. The weathly should not mind being taxed because it's Country First.

"cameronsmiley".. Let me get this straight, you either read in a republican inspired website or on Fox that Obama may be a communist. So now you think that this is true? You say we are no worse off with Palin than Obama. For the past 14 out of 16 years the Republican party has controlled the House and the Senate, they have controlled the White house for nearly 8 years. The midterm elections gave the Democrats a majority, but not a 2/3 control, of the house and the Senate is split even, with the deciding vote going to "the Vice President".. So exactly how can things not get any worse with Palin or McCain in office? We have a 9.3 Trillion Debt , to purchase as a country we have to borrow money from countries like, China to buy oil from Opec.. The republicans were handed a surplus and have created the largest deficit in history. Unemployment is is at 6.1 % and rising.. The Housing crisis is the worst in History, No regulation over Subprime loans and no money down mortgages. The education system has moved backwards in scoring and children per student averages. The average American Makes $2,500 less per year than they did 8 years ago, adjusted for inflation. We are in a "war" that costs 10 billion dollars per month has killed over 4000 american troops and McCain says we can win it, But won't define Win! Republicans talk about energy independence but don't want to put money towards alternative fuels which would give us (USA) the advantage world wide, eliminating the need for foreign oil all together, Instead they want to Drill for more oil here in America, in which we will not see any of it for 7 to 10 years.. about the same amount of time we could develop Hydrogen fuel systems, create natural gas advancements.. all American products and design that would put us back in front globally. What you ( republicans) worry about is your precious Tax cuts. Go take a moment and Read Alan Greenspans view on the Economic policies of McCain and Obama.. Greenspan, a republican, and argueably one of the best Fed reserve chairmans seems to think McCains economic plan isn't as rosey as you want to believe. In fact unless you make more than $250,000 per year you will have more of a tax cut from Obama than McCain. Try and be open minded for once and actually... I know its a stretch... Get some facts, Read some reports.. actually find the truth and not the Spin and lies.

I truly cannot believe Goldberg asked McCain if he was gonna put slavery back into action.... just seen the view on youtube, McCain ignored her at first but she persisted with the question. that was just sickening she would ask such a disgusting question.

    • Posted By: cameronsmiley @ 09/14/2008 3:39:54 PM

I don't think it was a bad question but McCain blew it by not pointing out that it was the Congress that changed the constitution and not the courts regarding slavery. The change had to be ratified by the states...AS OUTLINED in the Constitution. The Constitution allows for change BY THE LEGISLATURE. Wish McCain had made use of the oppourtunity to demonstrate Woopies ignorance of our history and government...noticed nobody else had a clue either...now THAT is scary...when the electorate is so ignorant. I think that is our problem much more than bad candidates...our problem is a stupid electorate.
We cannot survive as a democracy with such a voting public. Very scary indeed.

McCain's lead over Obama will only grow now that the media is pushing McCain/Palin full steam.

Of course they're dead even, that's the whole point of the two party state and the electoral college:
    www.theendisalwaysnear.blogspot.com/2008/08/one-nation-three-votes.html
It's unbelievable how easily the electorate get sucked up into the spin of the right wing, it's almost like they live everyday without any memory of what happened before.

I think the fact that it is now Obama vs. Palin speaks volumes. Palin has no MORE experience than Obama...true but Obama is a novice who has not done squat to earn our respect or trust as leader of the free world. There is serious question as to whether he is not in fact a communist...as he believes that wealth redistribution is key rather than inproved productivity (ie he is one more socialist idiot). I think as long as it is Obama vs. Palin the Republican argument is strengthened...Obama is still wet behind the ears...McCain has paid his dues and if he dies in office we are no worse off with Palin as with Obama on the "experience" front.

  • Posted By: simonbuc @ 09/14/2008 2:14:03 PM

Republicans - do you actually want to see Sarah Palin as President? Because that's what we're being readied for. Not only is it a strong actuarial likelihood, but McCain is more and more sheltering behind her (campaigning together, featuring her in their ads.)

The idea that being mayor of a town of 6000 people is serious preparation for the Presidency is an insult to our intelligence. Obama sought to compensate for his lack of experienced with a super-experienced running-mate, and in any case he's been in the national eye for nearly four years in national politics as a US Senator.

If you think Palin isn't running for President, then take off the blinkers.

So - is that really what you want? After 8 years of a know-nothing President who embarrassed us and pissed off our friends and allies all around the world ?

Or do you still think that America can afford to tell the rest of the world to f*** off? Maybe we could, if we didn't owe them trillions of dollars.

Wake up, we're sleep-walking into an even bigger disaster than last time.

A Newsweek poll reads like all bias Newsweek polls with Obama even or leading. They sure don't match the other polls. Skewiing the truth has become the norm for Newsweek because
they think all Americans need to be lead around by their noses and should agree with them Typical liberal, left wingnut, kool-aid drinking crap. Newsweek is pathetic.

We liberals are not angry, you foolish conservatives (I don't really mean it in an offensive manner); we are just fed up with the hypocrisy of your party. If you feel Obama is not the candidate for America, then what matters most to America is not security but social conservativism; not fiscal responsibility but a tax-cutting, pro corporate mentality with little regard for the well-being of workers; not honesty but hypocrisy (conservatives are so energized by Palin that they don't care what their Ten Commandments prohibits: lying. We, whoever we are -- liberals, independents, Republicans -- have a duty as a nation to challenge the integrity and honesty of our government, Republicans or Democrats. If lying is the new religion of conservatives, that is fine, but we cannot allow another Bush to lie us to another blind and dumb war.

    • Posted By: cameronsmiley @ 09/14/2008 3:13:23 PM

What matters is that YOU democrats recognize what you are electing here. A COMMUNIST is not a good alternative to what we have. Bush is not the best we ever had but not the worst either by a long stretch. The EMOTIONAL hatred of Bush and the mindless support of a socialist for president is INSANE. The status quo beats CHANGE toward government mandates and higher taxation...which solves WHAT exactly?

  • Posted By: Iron Horse @ 09/14/2008 3:00:13 PM

The modern Republican Party is so corrupt that a United Conservatives of America should be formed in the Carribean Sea, and our United States of America should neither be Democratic nor Republican nor Independent, but Americans -- not a "nation of winners" as the Bush adminsitration called us, but a nation of citizens wanting to and willing to face the challenges of the 21st USA and work together for the common good of our nation. We have different principles as political parties, but as Barack said, we are all under the same flag and under a single commitment to the well being of our nation.
So, why should we allow politicians to hijack our government by lying their way to power? Obama has lie, sure, but what about the far numerous, outrageous, never-ending lies of the McCain campaign and the Republicans? If that does not matter, then conservatives who condemn lying -- who especially react ith dispropritionate anger at Democratic lies but turn blind eyes at Republican in-your-face lies -- are nothing but a group of religious hypocrites, and i is okay to even worship a liar in church, I guess.

It is truly the most frightening thing that persons will vote for McCain with his running mate of questionable intentions. It seems that she appears to be extremely right and would be way too rigid of world views and intolerant ot others social views. Scary!!!!!!!
