If you are biracial and born in a state not connected to the lower 48, America needs darn near 2 years and 3 major speeches to ???get to know you.???

If you???re white and from a state not connected to the lower 48, America needs 36 minutes and 38 seconds worth of an acceptance speech to know you???re ???one of us.???

LMAO. Excellent point. Ah, yes, yet another crack in this sham of a spin job the GOP is trying to sell us.

You;re asking too much. Nothing changes until Newsweek, the NY Times, and all the other liberal rags start printing the truth about the falso messiah.

    • Posted By: brownfield @ 09/15/2008 2:11:19 AM

Whenever a one liner comes up with messiah, prophet, or muslim it makes me think how silly the Republican party has become along with desperate and sad. Lets blames the media and not the terriable canidates like Palin and Mccain.

Hmm. alosh and brownfield posted the same thing word for word. I think we spotted a bot!

It's a dead give-away. It's one of the "words" from structural paradigms.

I am certain that nothing like this has EVER happened to a Democrat. I am disappointed by NW's biased coverage of the election. I can get that at Time Magazine. I expect better from you.

Question: Name something in Obama's back pocket

Let me guess...........the check Cindy wrote to him not to call McCain out on his infidelity/abandonment against his first wife so the Republicans can think he's this honorable man?

      • Posted By: GD38 @ 09/15/2008 1:51:36 PM

All powerful men in suits cheat (well a lot of them anyway). It's certainly not admirable or right but it doesn't mean they aren't good at their jobs. It's attention to those kinds of issues that got us into trouble in electing Bush TWICE. In the case of Palin, it is her JOB decisions that have been the center of her issues. Teen pregnancy? Yah, whatever. Pick a number. Abuse of power? Now you have my attention.

  • Posted By: miltongalfas @ 09/15/2008 11:16:50 AM

Is that all there is? A disgruntled employee who was abusing everyone fired by a correct city offical. If only congree would fire all of the poor performing contractors they hired. It's about time someone actually managed the government and didn't try to make friends but looked out for the people.

Any person who throws out corruption is going to have crooked people coming after them. In this case the crooked people are politicians and unexpectedly media personnel.

It's time we had an internet news channel that showed some common sense and impartiality. The real story here is why is it a story when Obama's admitted felony, (ising cocaine for ten years), isn't even considered. Shame on those children reporters without wisdom.

    • Posted By: jiml1956 @ 09/15/2008 1:51:20 PM

How about the per diem while staying in her own home?

How did Sarah explain that to reporters? Oh, that's right, she is sequestered.

    • Posted By: lingram @ 09/15/2008 1:06:39 PM

Let's see the police chief was in favor of closing the bars earlier to help prevent drunks, he was against a poker run because of drunks and he was against concealed weapons in schools and bars. Geee, looks to me like the guy was trying to keep the town orderly and Miss Religous Goody Two Shoes was siding with the drunks and pistol toters because everyone knows you need a good old drunk with a gun in a bar and you need kids packing guns in the bookbags. That's good family values-while mommy is packing lunch she can throw in a pistol for good measure. Get real, Sarah Palin is a nothing more than a pawn for McCain and as evil as she sounds, I believe he better watch out. She is liable to poison his dinner if they win-afterall, she has always wanted to be president.

BOB HALLINEN / Anchorage Daily News

Organizers estimated 1,500 people showed up at the "Alaska Women Reject Palin Non-Partisan Rally" Sept. 13, 2008, on 36th Avenue in front of the ZJ Loussac Library. EVEN ALASKANS OPPOSE HER.

    • Posted By: ihateeveryoneincludingyou @ 09/15/2008 1:50:05 PM

Her approval rating is *only* 80%. Of course there's going to be people who oppose her. Big deal.

While I would never vote for McCain, I have always respected him, until now. With Palin on the ticket, his campaign has reverted to a Carl Rove, Swift Boat campaign of lies and half truths. He and Palin are huge disappointments.

    • Posted By: GD38 @ 09/15/2008 1:48:00 PM

I too used to like McCain even if I didn't agree with him. He SO didn't need to play this card. I'm profoundly dissapointed in him.

  • Posted By: at1221 @ 09/13/2008 5:26:08 PM

I find it sad to make such generalizations because she is a woman. I, personally, am tired of the arguing back and forth. I want the election to be over with. I'm not going to vote republican because she's a woman. I'm not going to vote democrat because Obama is African American. I'm going to base my decision on the real issues-the platform they, as candidates have for change. The United States cannot continue on it's current course. I miss people looking at what really matters-not party lines. Why doesn't everyone grow up and make informed decisions regarding their vote?

    • Posted By: wowwie-independent Christian voter @ 09/14/2008 4:21:24 PM

Amen at1221. I wish all of us would wake up and smell the coffee. We don't have time for all of this hateful bickering. If we are indeed the United States of America, then it's time for us to act like the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. No left wing (liberals), no right wing (conservatives), no liberal Christians, no evangelical Christians ... the bickering is rendering our country totally useless in the global world.

      • Posted By: GD38 @ 09/15/2008 1:46:17 PM

I spout off about Palin in these comments because, quite frankly, it is dern fun too. But have no illusions. I understand what is at stake. I understand how complex this BEAUTIFUL country of our is and that we need someone level headed to guide (if not outright) steer it back on course. Ideas run campaigns, but good judgment, patience and a measured approach makes a President. These scandals and factoids give the press something to do. But we don't really need them anymore. Information about the candidates is more accessible than ever before. We can school ourselves. We can watch the speeches we missed on YouTube. The truth is most everyone posting here has already made up their mind who they are voting for so don't worry about the comments. People just like to spout and rant and vent. I know someone deeper inside the process than most of us and the reality of the electoral maps is not reflected in any forum I've seen yet. The hard line conservatives may still vote by "feel" instead of by facts, but they are a dwindling demographic.

The connection between the current administration and a potential McCain one that Obama is trying to create is becoming more real. Cheney seemed innocuous, but he has turned out to be the source of a great number of Bush administration's worst faults. Palin's young and pretty. But so far, even in her good moments, she seems overly aggressive, extreme right, and, in her bad moments, petty. In addition, she has not a clue about foreign affairs. I can't believe she is still trying to tie Iraq to Bin Laden. The more I learn about her, the more I see McCain as pandering to the extreme right and trying to fool women voters. But then, perhaps McCain will bridge the partisan gap. He could blend the "play to the polls" games of Clinton with the warmongering of Bush. At least it would be interesting to watch. From Australia.

The negative effects of an Obama presidence!

Taxes going UP - Starting with the rich but any small business owner who now pays 12% up to $102k for Social security taxes will now have to pay 12% up to maybe 500k income. Even if the business owner only makes $150k this is still a $5,760 extra tax. Don't even think about capital gains taxes and many small business will be paying $10k to $15k more taxes each year.

Don't think this will INFLUENCE the extra employee they were thinking of hiring?

Do the MATH you dumb Democrats, millions of small businesses, takes of $10k to $50k MORE per year means FEWER new jobs.

Small businesses create 80% of the jobs.

Another option is the business owner RAISES prices.

So either way YOU pay for this by higher unemployment in YOUR city or HIGHER PRICES.

If you are a waitress guess what fewer employed and people with LESS money means they eat out less, they tip less, maybe they don't buy that bottle of wine.

The economy DOES TRICKLE down and also TRICKLES SIDEWAYS both will AFFECT you.

Higher prices leads to inflation which will cause the Fed to raise interest rates so if you buy a house or lease a car you pay more too!

Only a complete economic IDIOT would vote for Obama!

    • Posted By: AskPlus @ 09/15/2008 11:15:10 AM

      Trickle down?
      Is gas trickling down?
      Energy costs?
How about the costs of health care and day care?
Is a bad education running sideways too?

Of course you want the rich to get richer and do hand-outs.
You're not that bright. Mean even. But like always you see things from a greedy point of view.
But hell, look at your job, you rob and lie for a living. Just like Mr. McCain.

      • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/15/2008 1:17:16 PM

No I own a software company and we do about $1.3 million a year but last year only earned $330,000 and paid $107,000 in taxes.

If you go to the IRS dot GOV and go to tax statistics and divide the revenue by total filings it comes out to $9,600.

Did you pay your fair share of this $9,600?

Probably not and I paid 10 TIMES more than the average FAIR amount.

Talk about Greedy. Not only are Democrats the dumbest in our country THEY are the ones who don't pay their fair share and want us intelligent, hard working ones to pay for everything.

Democrats are like the relative that comes to stay a week and ends up staying for months and expect you to pay for THEIR dinner each night. They are so pathetic and yet have the NERVE to call us greedy.

Name calling can be used both ways.

I can call you STUPID for not making much money in this GREAT COUNTRY!
I can call you LAZY for not working hard enough, educating yourself, etc, etc.

But mostly I can call you an EMBARRASSMENT to educated, hard working Americans WHO CREATE JOBS like me.

Why is the husband of the major involved in directing the actions of the police.

It's pretty clear that while her ex brother in law might be a jerk - it's abuse of her office for her and ! her husband to think they can dictate what actions the police department should take.

    Ridiculous.

I'm happy to see coverage of the Alaskans who organized a protest against her. The media is doing it's job to reveal to us the temperment and belief system this person practices.

  • Posted By: Bisong @ 09/15/2008 12:15:24 PM

Did I hear ordinary Americans complaining about big government and the hegemony of public office holders? Well, in the McCain-Palin ticket, they would be dished quite a hefty dose of Washington's bigness as Palin would surely export her heavy-handedness and cronyism from Wasilla/Alaska to add to the left-over of Bush's eight-year bullish rule. What twisted democratic values.

On paper, I agree with a lot of the things that Republicans preach. However, their shameful performance over the last 8+ years proves that they are not the best party to run the USA.

  • Posted By: Iota1963 @ 09/15/2008 10:30:31 AM

7 of the 9 Supreme Court Justices were appointed by Republican Presidents.
Until 2 years ago, BOTH houses of congress were Republican Controlled.
3 of the last 4 Presidents were Republican.

If you are happy with the the shape of our country and the direction it is heading, vote Republican.
If you feel a change may be in order, vote Democrat.

    It's that simple.

The last thing the country needs is another intellectually lightweight administration. Give me people who are well-traveled and well-informed in the Nation's highest offices. Palin is simply, by resume, not qualified to be President, which, considering McCaon's age and disabilities, would be a distinct possibility.

    • Posted By: blackcourt @ 09/15/2008 10:07:15 AM

By your own assessment then President Clinton didn't have the resume to qualify office. Seems Democrats believe he did a pretty good job. This sounds like a typical, hypocritical, message from that side of the fence. She has an 80% approval rating as Governor. I'd say thats all the resume anyone would need.

  • Posted By: yongoro @ 09/15/2008 9:26:13 AM

Newsweek's story should have started with the last line:

"In Stambaugh's case, judge rules Palin was within rights to fire police chief."

    End of story.
