Is this a pattern for Palin, to fire those who oppose her? To get rid of all those who hold a different view then the one she has? Could there be a greater danger to the idea that differing opinions are part of what makes this country great?

I find it funny that a panel that is composed of 2 democrats and 3 republicans has been called a democratic witch hunt by McCain. Also Palin had agreed to talk with investigators regarding the Troopergate matter and now has decided not to speak with investigators. Didn't she run a platform of government trancsparency? Does she have something to hide? I would expect as we get closer to the election, the McCain/PAlin folks will spend less time on the issues and more time trying to discredit the various individuals who she has fired as they tell their stories. Who is Sarah Palin? What does she stand for? What happened to the federal money from the," bridge to no where"? She said , "No Thanks", but did she return the Federal monies? DId she really dismiss the chef that she had? Did she try to get her brother inlaw fired? Did she get others fired for not going along with her agenda. Did the "First Dude" really belong to a group that wanted to break from the United States Of America? Didn't we resolve that issue in a little skirmish called the "CIVIL WAR". Do we really want a Vice President ,who is a heart beat from the Presidency , who does not to know the cornerstone of of the current President's Foreign Policy? ( When asked the question, Palin had a look on her face which reminded me of a "Math is Hard" look.)

The interview with the Public Safety Commisioner was extremely revealing in that he indicates that he and others in his department were getting pressure from her administration to get rid of her brother in law who was going through a custody battle. When the trooper was not fired, the Public Safety Commisioner was.

the issue of transparency within government is one of the most importatnt issues in this election. If over the last eight years we had transparency , the citizens of America would have a far greater confidence in the role of government and its' motivation for taking certain courses of action.

I want a government for the people, by the people. I want a government that puts its' citizens first and not its' corporartions. Most of all, I want the truth and nothing but the truth.

Don't opposing candidates deserve comparison against their actual opponents? It would seem that Senator Obama should be compared to Senator McCain. Comparing Senator Obama and Govenor Palin seems to point out that the comparison is being made that BOTH are on the very short end of the experience chart! The Court has stated that the Governor has the right to terminate at will. Since this nation is run as one of (Laws)
the Law should be the deterninator, not mouthy, ill-informed and bored bloggers.

Is this a pattern for Palin to fire those who oppose her. Sounds like Mr Stambaugh got BUSHED. Also her refussal to speak to investigators when she has nothing to hide is a bit strange given that she ran on a platform of government transparency. Finally the assertation that the 5 person State Panel is part of a Democratic which hunt is a lie, when 3 of the members of the panel are Republican.

Here's how Obama is going to "increase your taxes." By the way, the Washington Post is usually considered to lean to the right (that means Republican, to those of you commenters who never cared about this stuff until you started worshipping at the church of Palin, hence speaking in tongues): Obama and McCain Tax Proposal Comparison
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/story/2008/06/09/ST2008060900950.html

The reason Troopergate matters is that it is proof of abuse of power. Haven't we had enough of that over the past eight years? The NYT article involves interviews of people who STILL LIKE her, yet tell the truth about the corruption, cronyism, and downright wackiness that went on under her administration. Did the reporters hold guns to these people's heads to make them talk? Could it be...they're actually just telling the truth?

The reason ALL of this needs to be brought out by her being interviewed by real reporters, not Sean Hannity, without a script in front of her, is that odds I've seen on McCain living four more years are ONE IN THREE. Even if you are in favor of McCain's policies over Obama's, you need to realize that if you vote for him, you are voting for HER. There's even a petition out there with 40,000+ signatures on it, started by MDs, petitioning McCain to release his health records because most people don't actually realize how close this woman is to the presidency.

She is an agent of Change. When someone is making a change in a system, some people will get fired. As the judge correctly decided, she did have the right to fire these people for whatever reason or no stated reason at all. We need her to move to Washington DC and do some more firing for no reason.

too late then, Jim. He had already been disciplined for the incident. There is such a thing as double jeopardy. In America we don't try defendents twice for the same charges. Didn't matter how much Palin wanted Monegan to fire Wooten; Legally, he couldn't do it. There appears to be evidence that someone applied pressure to Monegan to do exactly that. This is what the "abuse of power" investigation is all about.

    • Posted By: jiml1956 @ 09/16/2008 4:21:15 AM

That's my point. The investigation was closed. But when she went from mayor to governor, she tried to use her position to reverse the earlier decision.

careeerdaytrader, let me summarize what I've learned about you from your posts. I'm sure you will correct any factual errors I make.

You own a software company that had revenues of 1.3 million last year. You paid about 10 percent of revenues in taxes (over 100 grand). You have 3 employees.

If we assume that you paid your employees an average of 100k per year, your profit less salaries is about 1 million. Let's say you had expenses of 100 grand, that still leaves you with 900 thousand in gains.

You day trade and have not lost a penny, according to your post.

So why exactly are you complaining about paying more taxes?

    • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/15/2008 8:58:22 PM

No last year I made $330k and paid $107,000. I have a partner btw as many business people do who gets half of our net income. This year we will do a tad over $1.3 million and I'll have a much bigger tax due, obviously I'm not going to do my taxes till next April but will owe a lot more than last year.

Now that I answered you you can answer ME.

How in the beginning of what is likely to be a big recession will Obama raise income taxes, capital gains taxes, social security taxes, probably tax oil companies more and yet STILL CREATE 5 MILLION JOBS?

You Democrats are excellent about diversionary tactics but please answer this VERY important question, the country's FUTURE is at stake. This has nothing to do with me and everything to do with his moronic policies.

      • Posted By: jiml1956 @ 09/16/2008 3:18:19 AM

I don't know that Obama can create 5 million new green jobs.

But, I don't trust McCain and Palin was a ridiculous choice.

Since you are in the income group that Obama targets for a tax increase, I understand your dislike for him.

Mwailimu just mentioned that it wasn't mentioned that Stambaugh tasered an innocent child. No, Stambaugh was the chief of police, over the man, formerly Palin's brother-in-law, who is reported to have tasered his own child. Stambaugh refused to fire him and that, coupled evidently with some of the facts listed in the article (Stambaugh didn't want concealed weapons in bars although the NRA did, Stambaugh didn't want the bars there to stay open past 2 a.m. because bigger cities people would come out to Wasilla and drink in bars until 5 a.m. and get into drunk crashes all night -- although the bar owners did want that. Palin supported all these crazy bills which could result in people getting killed, because bar owners and NRA (presumably) gave her money for her campaigns, not because it was good for the communities involved. Stambaugh seems like a sensible guy. Except for not giving more than a few days suspension for the man who tasered his son/daughter. (Tasers should be banned; they have killed many many people, though some may not be in the statistics because they may have died later from a weakened heart, and this could not be 'proven' to be caused by the taser guns.)

  • Posted By: Mwalimu @ 09/16/2008 12:50:56 AM

Zeny seems to have confused his facts. I read this article 3 times. It does not mention that Stambaugh tasered an innocent child nor was he drunk on the job. (Zeny must be thinking of some one else.) Doesn't Alaska have a civil service law that protects civil service workers from being fired when a new mayor comes in? Palin seems to follow Andrew Jackson's example - namely to the victor go the spoils. Jackson's philosophy brought an endless chain of greed, corruption, patronage and bribery - extending to most cities as well.

We already have a spoils system in Washington. Accoring to Mother Jones, 3,000 political appointees interfere with the reports made by competent civil servants and scientists, like NASA climatologist James Hansen. The results are disastrous. Palin pledges to clean up Washington - but judging from her record in Wasilla, she's just bringing in the same-old, same-old. She'll replace the 30,000 lobbyists that now plague our capital with hundreds or thousands of lobbyists from Alaska who will regard DC as a sort of free-for-all Hometown Buffet where everybody helps themselves. Do we need this spoils system in DC?

Unbelievable, I cannot believe that any Americans with any measure of common sense would vote for Mcain/Palin. She was picked in an incredibably patronizing move to draw female voters, with little scrutiny of her actual qualifications to occupy the White House.
Support concealed weapons at schools??!! No sex education to teens in school??!The Iraq war was a test from God??! It's easy to "reform" goverment when you get rid of people who don't support your views, it's ok to support the NRA and it's concealment issues when your children don't have to fear being shot on the street accidentally by an errant Glock or Mac 10 bullet, sure spout the usual Republican they raise your taxes B.S., regardless of the fact that the last time our goverment had a SURPLUS of money and truly robust economy a Democrat was president. Wake up America, don't vote for ANYBODY because they are a woman or black or white, vote because they have some background that benefits ALL Americans on some level, and has a clue about the economy and a desire to use our military wisely and judiciously (pre-emptive strikes is code for INVASIONS). Let's try to come together.

If I am the governor of Alaska, I will fire that police chief. Anybody who uses a taser gun to an innocent kid and get drunk while on duty especially a cop should have been fired. The chief was appointed by the governor and she has the right to fire him if he is not doing his job as expected. To my fellow democrats give the lady governor a break. Spend all the fundraising millions you collected to a good cause. Celebrities please keep your opinion to yourselves. Why should I believe you, you are just style but no brain.

I am not paid by the Obama/Biden campaign. Guns allowed in schools? I am a public school teacher. Palin is completely unprepared for this position. Georgia unprovoked? She didn't even read the newspaper. Even the Whitehouse didn't say it was unprovoked. For the first time in my life I am worried about the possibility of this woman trying to lead our country.

When is someone going to talk about the fact that this "trooper" tazed his own 10 year old son. Do you think that may have something to do with his getting fired. Or the fact that he had several "accidents" on duty. The State dunce running the personnel department who refused to fire him deserved to be fired.

    • Posted By: Sankari @ 09/15/2008 10:43:58 PM

If she didn't do anything wrong in firing the "dunce" then why she afraid to speak with the cousel investigating the case (the counsel that was set up by a commitee with a majority of republicans on it)?!

Am I crazy to notice the issues? I am not surprised that a mayor of a small town fires people supposedly for personal disagreements, as alleged in the Periscope article. I am surprised that a person who allows her religious convictions to affect her standing on social issues in the public arena has such a lax attitude to liquor and guns. Am I the only person who feels uncomfortable with bars open till 5 am? Is this supposed to be a service to those who work from 3 pm to 11pm? And guns in schools? Didn't America recently suffer a tragedy when a disturbed young man concealed a weapon and later opened fire on a college campus? Maybe I need to take a class in Christianity, does the doctrines of this religion (I am not a Christian) support church goers carrying concealed weapons? Is the crime rate in Alaska that terrible that the citizens need to arm themselves? Please someone tell me I am correct to be frightened of a Vice President who sees nothing wrong with drinking liquor till 5 am, and favors citizens carrying concealed weapons. Are police cheifs and librarians known as the Big Old boys that Mrs. Palin is known for taking on? Exactly who are these big old boys, certainly not the NRA or the liquor industry.Should I give up my yoga classes and begin target practice, after which I can stop for a drink? After all, my home state is much more densely populated than Alaska, and thus the risks are comparatively higher. Thank you Newsweek for publishing this story, I hope to hear more about the issues and where our politicians stand than about their personal lives and religious outlooks.

Before you call anyone idiots -- read both tax plans on www.taxpolicycenter.org -- McCain is wrong about Obama taxing everyone.....also, it's probably not a good idea for Republicans to bring up Obama's drug use -- Cindy McCain did far more damage to far more people with her abuse of prescription drugs. Get your facts -- check out non-partisan websites before you submit idiotic comments. www.independent.org and www.taxpolicycenter.org Also check out factcheck.org and politifact.org

Obama IS going to raise taxes.

Go learn basic Economics and then explain to me HOW IT WON'T AFFECT YOU?

You work for a business so them having less money is going to what? Cost you a job, cost you a raise, cost you a promotion?

You buy from businesses so them having less money won't affect their prices?

Obama has NEVER met a tax he didn't like!

First he taxes the rich and then later adds EVERYBODY to the tax increases.

You can't trust a man with his lousy judgement, associates with known terrorists, hate mongers (his minister), etc.

      • Posted By: GD38 @ 09/15/2008 2:25:12 PM

Wow so intelligently put. You totally changed my whole way of thinking. I guess as credit underwriter, I would have no idea how EBITDA works or how businesses manage taxation. Um, you know what genius, they get deductions and write off too. Oh and you know the 600+ billion we borrowed from China for Iraq. They are going to want that back. Last time I checked the government didn't make money by selling widgets. In fact, I feel pretty sure their primary revenue stream is....TAXES? Oh right and one of the gov's expenses would include paying our troops and veterans benefits. Yah taxes are no fun but they are a part of the way the economy works. Oh and Leehman, Bear and Fannie and Freddie didn't fail because of being over taxed either so their are bigger threats to businesses than taxes. Eggs didn't rise 35% in price because taxes were raised. Want to know what did that? I'll give you a hint. "Drill Baby Drill". McCain and his 7 houses is real in touch. Or was it 5? 9?.....

        • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/15/2008 2:48:41 PM

You got ONE thing right, Government's revenue stream is TAXES.

But when Obama was TOLD this about capital gains taxes, the fact that when you RAISE capital gains taxes it LOWERS taxes collected he said basically, "I don't care about that, its a matter of fairness!"

So the guy you are supporting has UNSOUND economic principles, he's a marxist socialist who doesn't care that his policies will bring in LESS TAXES, he just wants to redistribute the wealth.

I'm sure thats why you're voting for him, you are so envious of those of us who make 10 to 50 times more than you.

          • Posted By: GD38 @ 09/15/2008 3:20:04 PM

Actually, I work in a financial market. The markets will correct themselves once everyone can get their balance sheets in order and whatever President is in power will take credit. History repeats itself. I'm no naive enough to think the President alone can fix the economy. Oh and you seem to be so good at making assumptions about things you can't possibly know, tell me what I'm thinking right now.

            • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/15/2008 6:16:10 PM

You IGNORED the point of my post.

In the two past times they RAISED capital gains taxes it REDUCED taxes collected.

Obama didn't seem to know this and was told this by the moderator. It seems his economic advisors have possibly educated him on this SIMPLE fact and on O'Reilly last week he lowered his plan of capital gains tax increases from 28% to 20% RIGHT BEFORE OUR VERY EYES!

He doesn't even KNOW what his plans are. He's THAT incompetent.

If you are so smart explain ONE time in American history where the Government collected MORE taxes after raising capital gains? Unfortunately for you there was NEVER a time!

Obama's "wealth redistribution welfare" plans are economically unsound and thats why in a recent polling of economists 75% picked Mc Cain's tax and economic policies.

              • Posted By: careerdaytrader @ 09/15/2008 6:50:27 PM

I didn't think you'd reply. You are good at posting BS but can't back it up with any facts. Typical Democrat. They run from the debates because we win on the ISSUES! Mc Cain will destroy Obama again just like he did at Saddleback and just like O'Reilly did. Obama is an IDIOT and can't think without his teleprompter!
