The author of the new article leaves us on a surprise note, asserting Palin's "unyielding moral certainty".

Governor Palin has been lying at least since she was given a mike in the Lower 48.

Not one truth did she say about Obama in her convention speech, and it has continued on from there.

You lost me. Are you making an argument that she'd be good for the Justice system, or not?

Sarah Palin holds nothing but a bachelors degree in communications from the Univeristy of Idaho- the sixth college she attended in six years to earn a four-year degree. John McCain graudated at the bottom one percent of his class at the Naval Academy. What do they know?? It only took my husband and I 4 years each, maybe we should be president too!! We are one very stupid country if we elect these nuts!! The supreme court?? I can't even belive this is an argument>or discussion!! She is qualified to be a hockey and that's it!!

Shooting wolves from helicopters? Think about that image for a second eh? REALLY think about that image, and then look in the mirror and tell me you still subscribe to "compasionate conservatism."

The author of this article is being SARCASTIC. Re-read it and you will understand, if only from the line where she says, "someone who can put the "law" back into "scofflaw." A scofflaw is someone who doesn't respect the law, like Sarah Palin. The author's point is that the Supreme Court is full of extremely conservative, partisan men who only uphold the Constitution when they absolutely must because it is required by law. Sarah Palin has no trouble ignoring the Constitution because she is morally certain that her views are righteous. She has a direct channel to God, after all. See, I am being sarcastic also. Sarah Palin on the Supreme Court would be horrifying, but she would have a lot of company!

Wow, that comment from Mariann Pepitone is exactly what is wrong with so many people in America. Divisiveness is all these people who spew negativity are all about. They want to make others afraid of Obama and make up outlandish accusations to cast aspersions on his character, but offer no evidence of anything they say. She says he didn't like white people, but all he knew were white people. His whole family growing up was white and he is half white. This is what racism does. It tries to make people of color into the "other" and something to be afraid of and then justifies the negative qualities of those who are white. It makes Obama's education and qualifications into negatives and Sarah Palin's lack of education and qualification into positive. I ask you...If Obama had the background of Sarah Palin, where would we be right now? America is better than people like Mariann Pepitone and we will see the true spirit of our fantastic country emerge on Nov. 4th.

Why do we as a nation want to put people like us "common folk" in the White House? They ARE supposed to be smarter than us.

I think it takes common sense to run our country. Sometimes you find that in intelligent people and sometimes you do not.

      • Posted By: Middle-eighth @ 09/16/2008 2:30:42 PM

Well, there's a brilliant argument. Hey, did you know that some stupid people have common sense and some don't? I think I could name at least one stupid person with no common sense.... three guesses and the first two don't count, hon.

Common sense alone is not enough to run anything, especially anything as complicated as the U.S. Besides, I haven't seen any indications that Pale-in-comparison has any common sense, however "common sense" is defined. Supporting abstinence-only is not "common sense," especially when it fails with your own child and with more and more studies showing that it doesn't work. Supporting creationism is not "common sense," given the avalanche of high-quality scientific evidence for evolution. Claiming not to have supported the Bridge to Nowhere is not common sense when ample visual and textual evidence exists to prove that you actually did support it. I could go on for hours like this... but I have enough common sense AND intelligence to know that I've said enough.

See "Posted By: dyellon md @ 09/16/2008 2:07:00 PM"

The point of this column is that if you (NOT me) elect McSame, women WILL lose their rights to their bodies.

McSame has made a statement criticizing Obama's health plan by asking if the American people really want a bureaucrat between their body and their health care provider. The biggest irony is that McSame wants to place a bureaucrat between a woman's reproductive organs and her physician.

Cannot you people understand that McSame wants to reduce our rights, not expand them, just as any Repub of the last twenty years does?

Just by way of clarifying things, a person does NOT have to be a lawyer -- much less a judge -- to be on the United States Supreme Court. Strange but true.

  • Posted By: alpha_nu_916 @ 09/16/2008 2:17:46 PM

it is my understanding that mrs. palin does not have a juris doctor. aside from the fact that she has no legal experience, let alone any real expertise in constitutional law, she appears has a healthy lack of respect for the first amendment - mainly, the freedom of speech and the establishment clauses.
her insistance on teaching creationism - christian creationism - in public schools, as well as promoting christian religious freedoms in school demonstrate that she has no real understanding of the principles of the separation of church and state. I wonder if she would be so open to teach other religious ideologies' views on creationism? or whether she would endorse a muslim, buddahist, or hindu prayer group on school property while school is in session? and as for her reported attempts at banning books, this is more than likely a flagrant violation of the first amendment.
if mrs. palin, in the author's eyes, is qualified to serve as a supreme court justice, i guess anyone is.

  • Posted By: justanothersportsmom @ 09/16/2008 2:16:47 PM

Don't you at least need to be an attorney to be on the Supreme COurt!!! Talk about not enough experience how about another point where Palin falls short - not enough education!

  • Posted By: concernedpatron @ 09/16/2008 2:16:22 PM

haha "no fair arguing that sara palin isnt experienced enough"--try at all. she has hardly any executive experience and absolutely NO experience as a lawyer or judge. this is laughable

but she CAN see russia from her house, so its all good

Tell me this is a joke. Lie if necessary.

  • Posted By: Phoenix AZ @ 09/15/2008 7:36:27 PM

I'm a little confused. Let me see if I have this straight.....

    * If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

    * Grow up in Alaska eating moose burgers, a quintessential American story.

    * If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.

    * Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.

    * Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.

    * Attend 5 different small colleges before graduating, you're well grounded.

    * If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

    * If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20 months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

    * If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising 2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

    * If you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress, you're a Christian.

    * If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.* If , while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed teen daughter ends up pregnant , you're very responsible.

    * If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't represent America's.

    * If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

    OK, much clearer now!!!

Thank you. All of the kool-aid I have been drinking must have had me in the bathroom when the Republican party was explaining why we are so misguided.

      • Posted By: remmy @ 09/16/2008 1:08:09 PM

You failed to mention that one family here is a BLACK family and the other family is a WHITE family. If a black mum have a 17 year old that is pregnant, she is irresponsible. If it is a white mum we should understand. Listen and learn my friend, the enthusiasm about Palin is because the RACISTS within us have finally found a reason not to vote fo OBAMA (A BLACK MAN). The BASE (The pentecostal base) is rallied !!

        • Posted By: Unknown22 @ 09/16/2008 2:14:49 PM

Voters already have multi-reasons not to vote for Obama. He has never taken a stance on either side of any issue. no morals, no accomplishments, etc, etc.... Most likley not even an American. In reality he is BLACK and WHITE, so if the vote was purely by race he should win easily.

      • Posted By: remmy @ 09/16/2008 1:11:39 PM

You forgot to mention that one family is BLACK and the other is white. Palin is the reason that the racists within us need as a reason not to vote for a black man. She rallied the base (the pentecostal base).

        You're looking for logic again.

        We can't have that.

I made my comment before reading below.

Now I am very frightened by all the writers who thought this was a serious column. I was worried for our country before, now there is a chill running up my spine.

Are there no independent thinkers in the Repub ranks?

  • Posted By: Bluebird51 @ 09/16/2008 2:08:55 PM

Unyielding moral certainty? Seems like that would not be a good thing for the highest court as it indicates a very closed mind. and that does not bode well for justice. She does not relate to me and I certainly do not relate to Sarah Palin and while I would be happy to have a woman in high office she will never be my choice. She is in no way comparable to Hillary Clinton and will be a serious setback to women. Her style of governence is to rid herself of all dissenters - gee I hope Todd alway makes her happy or he may find himself out....

  • Posted By: dyellon md @ 09/16/2008 2:07:00 PM

Sarah Palin on the Supreme Court means a return to the 1950s when women had to use coat hangers or slide down bannisters to have an abortion after rape or incest. Sarah Palin on the Supreme Court means an end to the right of women to earn the same pay as men. Sarah Palin on the Supreme Court means that torture of suspects will become the modus operandi of the CIA and the FBI. It will mean less protection for all citizens under our Constitution after Sarah Palin allows it to be trampled upon. Did you ever read the novel " 1984'? They will have to rename it "2008"

  • Posted By: yancey @ 09/16/2008 2:04:05 PM

That's why they call it the Supreme Court....you have to be a LAWYER first!!

  • Posted By: Rick3540 @ 09/16/2008 1:55:34 PM

Hey, if Palin is good for the Veep, she is qualifies to go anywhere, Supreme Court, DOJ, State Dept, etc. The Repubs will believe anything McSame says, and if he says Sarah is good enough, that is it!

  • Posted By: Unknown22 @ 09/16/2008 1:53:40 PM

Brilliant insight. Funny and true. Women, gays, atheists and minorities have far too many rights in this great country of ours. Installing Palin on the Supreme Court would be a good move to rectify this problem.

    • Posted By: pinkpanther87413 @ 09/16/2008 1:48:30 PM

I willingly fight and die for those labels of yours!!! all,, but one!! PALIN, is not worth a drop of American blood, not even her sons blood is worth her views of slavery!!!
