Of all the idiotic things I've heard during this campaign -- and the choice of an inexperienced nobody like Sarah Palin has to rank among the most rank -- the notion of putting this moose-belcking right-wing gun'-totin' mama who likely couldn't spell "Supreme Court" to save her life has to be one of the dumbest g*ddamned things I've ever read. I know nothing in Sarah Palin's life qualifies her for the post she depserately desires, but what qualifications does the dumbass who wrote this article have? Is she a childhood friend of Palin's too?

PLEASE -- can we have reasoned, elucidating commentary from people who actually know what the hell they're talking about? Supreme Court. HOMECOMING Court, maybe, but Supreme Court? Please -- give yourself a laxative.

Sarah Palin gets my vote ! She is pro life, pro God, anti corruption and represents me as a woman!

Here are a few more thoughts why some in the left don't like her...As G. Gutfeld said, SO how can one person create so much bile among folks who claim to be the most tolerant in the universe? I mean, liberals are the good people: They're open-minded, caring and of course, fair.

But somehow, a Republican lady in her 40s is exempt from this treatment. Perhaps, she truly is the devil in a dress, a ghoul that eats children and pollutes the planet and possibly beats Barack Obama, the patron saint of every customer buying wheat germ in bulk at GNC.

But I know the real reason why every single elitist media type is terrified of her. They've never met her. And by "her," I don't mean Sarah Palin. I mean "her", an actual normal woman with a bunch of kids, an average husband and no desire to watch "The L Word."

She's scary to these folks the way Wal-Mart is scary to them: Both are alien to someone who blogs about their chakras. They won't go there, because they've never been there.

To them, hating Sarah Palin is a symptom of larger bigotry against the rest of us, the normal. If they saw her at a party, they would wonder how she got in. She's the anti-Obama, the anti-New York Times, the anti-everything that Tim Robbins loves, which is why I love her ??? and you should too

Well I don't because she's a phony liar who thinks she fooling everyone into thinking that she actually knows something about being an honest leader.

I'm an "actual, normal woman" and although I don't have "a bunch of kids", I do have an average husband and no desire to watch "The L Word". And I shop at Wal-mart. It appears to me that all of you Palin supporters are doing exactly what you have accused Obama supporters of doing -- following blindly. I have tried to keep an open mind, but the more I learn about her the more I believe she is not right for this country.

Deep down, you know that the reason you will not vote for Obama is that he is black. Palin is the "rational" reason you have been waiting for.

I am a tongue-talking, pro-life, pro-God anti-corruption, rapture-believing, creationist Christian and I am sick to see the spectacle that is unfolding. To think that we can hate so much in the name of the Lord as to rather allow our country to ground to a halt, obviously, rather than to vote for a black man !! Bigotry in Jesus name !!?? Reminds me of the pharises that I regularly preach againgt.

After enjoying the author's commentaries on day-to-day, I didn't expect such drivel. Perhaps I've missed some sort of sarcasm buried deep within this editorial, but the complete disregard for the immense intellectual task of providing the final voice of interpretation of the nation's most pressing constitutions questions is frightening to say the least. The last thing the supreme court needs is another careless headliner arbitrarily suppressing the constitution. Palin's candidacy speaks to the basest of american populist instincts--the anti-intellectual, discourse-closing, photo-op driven desire to ignore the great questions of society. Palin is nothing more than wonder bread, and I hope to god we never see her on any court, yet alone the supreme court.

Excellent satire. It's so good that many leaving comments think you're serious.

People, the point is that Sarah Palin doesn't belong anywhere near ANY arena of government when her record and ideology show that she is willing to trample the Constitution, circumvent legislative and judicial processes, and abuse her executive power in order to get the outcomes she wants. She isn't serious political material. She is a pandering to those basest elements of our electorate - those who would get excited about and vote for her, despite her poor showing in executive trustworthiness and knowledge of the world, simply because she stands for some nebulous 'issue' (whether women's equality or anti-abortionism) they profess to care about.

None of the items mentioned, moral certainty, relatability, and gender, should be considered as important choices for a Supreme Court candidate.

Dahlia Lithwick, you are horrible, please stop writing.

The only people on the supreme court should be those with the highest levels of education of the law, not a journalism degree from a small engineering and agriculture university.

Wow. the fact that your view is supported by someone (below) who would love to take AWAY the rights of many of our citizens, speaks volumes. Call me old fashioned, but I do believe that education and intelligence matter when we're speaking of the highest and most potentially dangerous leadership positions in the free-world. (Emphasis on "free"...sorry WPaulie) This isn't a movie, this is real life, and I don't want my rights, or the rights of my children decided by someone with no experience, no education, no ethics...but, boy, she can talk tough and shoot a gun, so let's put her on the supreme court. There isn't enough room here to describe the many, many flaws in your argument...it would be funny if it weren't so sad.

Brilliant insight. Funny and true. Women, gays, atheists and minorities have far too many rights in this great country of ours. Installing Palin on the Supreme Court would be a good move to rectify this problem.

Palin needs to take care of her own family problems before she takes on the nations problems.

Palin needs to worry about her own family problems before she needs to think about the nations problems. She was so busy being the big wolfe killer she forgot to teach her daughter how to keep her legs together.

In the two weeks since Sarah Palin was announced as Senator McCain's pick for VP, her handlers have allowed her to speak to the press 1 time and after serious coaching sessions. In that same time frame Senator Biden spoke with reporters 54 times. Thankfully the Palin bubble is finally bursting as the public get to see who this person for who she really is despite the McCain camp's best efforts to stifle the truth. Buyer's remorse is setting in. John McCain's judgement is in question as he blew the single most important decision he had to make as a candidate.

Oh, and leave Dahlia Lithwick alone.

  • Posted By: Joe Brooklyn @ 09/15/2008 11:24:48 PM

On second thought, I take it all back.
    PALIN FOR SCOTUS!!!!

  • Posted By: Joe Brooklyn @ 09/15/2008 11:17:58 PM

What?!!! Sarah Palin is probably one of the most retarded choices for Supreme Court justice ever suggested! Supreme court justice must be able to interpret the Constitution, not the Bible. Loosely espousing Republican bromides couched in the guise of a Jesus freak is not equivalent to Moral certitude.

If anyone at Newsweek is reading this, please fire Dahlia Lithwick for gross negligence.

Don't you need to have some experience as a judge to be on the Supreme Court? Shouldn't you at least have to have a law degree? Wouldn't some knowledge of constitutional law be a little helpful? I have an idea, let's eliminate the need for qualifications and have no standards whatsoever. Better yet, why go to college at all? This would save hard-working parents a lot of money. I truly fear the dumbing down of America.

If not, why should anybody need a degree to do anything? Let's eliminate colleges and universities - it would save hard-working parents a lot of money. Why should anyone need to be qualified for anything? Just want it enough and the job is yours! I really fear the dumbing down of America.

Lithwicks problem is that it is not her people sitting on the bench. Were they,it would be a creature more in line with the nearly all-liberal 9th US based in Frisco. The most overturned federal court in American history. ''Scofflaws of the law''if you will. Lithwick,in order to rein in all of the Bush administration ''crooks''does not forsee even a WATERGATE-style series of hearings. What this strange specimen desires is a Nuremberg War Crimes Tribunal, forgetting that this device has been roundly criticized for its absence of due process[''victors justice''],for decades. Indeed, Nuremberg adopted a rather odd picking and choosing of who would face the hangmans noose, and who would get off scot-free. [A Goering would be an obvious candidate, but a Werner von Braun, who used slave labour and crafted the mass-killing V-I rockets, would go on to become the father of Americas NASA program]. Lithwick thus demands Soviet-like showtrials, slipshod and imprecise in their application, ergo, she is no respector of ''laws'',and can thus be dismissed as a partisan crank.

WHEN THE LIBERAL ELITE "MAIN STREAM MEDIA" INJECTS ITSELF INTO A NATIONAL US ELECTION, IT LEADS TO THE "LAW OF UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES"

IF THERE'S WAS NO "MSM" BIAS AGAINST HILLARY, HILLARY WOULD BE THE US PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE AND OBAMA WOULD BE THE VP CANDIDATE

IF THE TICKET IS CLINTON/OBAMA.....THERE IS NO SARAH PALIN EFFECT

IF THERE IS NO SARAH PALIN, THERE IS MCCAIN/ROMNEY REPUB TICKET

THEREFORE, THERE WOULD BE 8 YEARS OF CLINTON/OBAMA ADMINISTRATION

THEREFORE, THERE WOULD BE 8 YEARS OF OBAMA/KEANE ADMINSTRATION

BY US LIBERAL ELITE MEDIA BACKING OBAMA AND TRASHING HILLARY, THEY LOSE A POSSIBLE 16 YEARS IN POWER AND WILL PROBABLY NOW LOSE 8 OUT OF THE LAST 11 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

THE MSM DESERVES WHAT IT GETS
