You know what's the most scary thing about this article, I wasn't sure if it was satire until I was most of the way through it. Politics in Amarica has gotten so insane that the idea of some President making Sarah Palin a Supreme court justice seems plausable. Maybe even more frightning is the notion that many Americans wouldn't even see the idea as insane.

We have gotten to a point in America where people see Presidential races as something like American Idol. You vote for who you kind of like, not for who you know would be qualified or reasonable in the job. Sure, it might be kind of cool to have a moose hunting woman from rural Alaska as President, if this was a tv show or movie, but in the real world it would be a disaster that would make the Bush years seem like the good old days. Imagine Palin, or even Bush Jr. as President during the Cuban missle crisis...we would all probably be dead now. The American Presidency is a responiblity the needs to be reserved for only the most stable, critical, and reasonable people. It's not a surprise that many President came out of the best Universities in America, because it takes intelligence, hard work and stable persistence to get into and do well at those schools. Is it possible that some mom with a mediocre education from rural Alaska could be intelligent, stable and knowledgable enough to be President, it's possible but extremely unlikely. And considering the things that we know Palin has said and done in her past., she is certainly not that person.

Hey, I am an immigrant. One of those that are being bashed in some comments here, or otherwise described as legal aliens, an idiom that I still struggle to understand...

Yet, this article gave me a great pleasure ??? wonderful style, refined and masterful sarcasm. Fantastic!

What puzzled me, however, were some of the comments posted here. Do the authors of these comments really have no idea what sarcasm is? Are Americans really so undereducated? Oh, my???! You must have heard the old saying: ??? People deserve their leaders.???

Reading some of the comments here have made me consider Palin more seriously. ..

Lithwick, Bloody brilliant! . Like they say in England: nuff said!

I hope this is a joke. Supreme court? The woman needs help talking to her teens. What kind of message is that to the nation? It's fine if you can afford it. Those interviews were an abomination. If the networks were real they would have actually hit the ceiling with ratings by reporting her Olympic gold in gaffes, but played the safe deference card. I think most Americans are out of their minds with outrage at the irresponsible choice for VP. One main article was actually entirely on Charlie Gibson's performance. Besides the supreme court needs balance not more representation of the minority opinion.

It is positively scary that conservatives on here are totally unable to recognize a satiric piece or get irony. Remember this:

    All conservatives are not stupid
    but
    ALL stupid people are conservative

You know it and I know it too! Truer words have never been spoken!

I think this is a shade too subtle for satire, Ms. Lithwick, in both substance and style. Some of the confusion arises from your occasional use of substantive, valid arguments -- for instance, the point about Gore and Cheney's insider knowledge translating into a powerful vice presidency.

But the last two paragraphs were real winners.

I just love to read liberal hacks frothing at the mouth now that the public has caught onto the fact that your Love Object is a phony. Another four years in the wilderness muttering about chads, swiftboats and whatever excuse you contrive this year to excuse your ignorance and foolishness.I think that your problem is that Obama isn't elite enough and hasn't attended enough of Sally Quinn's cocktail parties. Try for a bigger snob nexst time

I was recently accosted by a man regarding Palin in the supermarket. He pretended to make a joke about how all women will vote for her because of her gender. Ignoring his sexist remark, I told him that I believed the polls had to be wrong, that that many people could not be so foolish. However, after reading this article: the lack of logic and sound reasoning makes me wonder.

This article was righton. Ever notice how conservatives are not interested in a fair court system? Instead they want a totally biased one that only votes their way. Anytime a ruling goes against them they cry foul, then try and stack the courts in their favor again. The GOP attempts to undermine the fair and impartial American legal system should be front and center, but of course the media ignores and only publishes the talking points that politicians provide themm.

You can't be serious with this article? This woman is a not a soccer mom, but a soccer moron. Save the country and please try to be serious and intelligent for the future.

  • Posted By: DavidQual @ 09/13/2008 4:32:08 PM

I hope this was meant as a farce! You can't really be serious to even consider a nutcase like Palin for anything other than soccer mom, or better yet a soccer moron!

    Jake 123:

Which God would that be? Jehovah, Mohammed, Buddha, Shiva, Odin, Thor, The Pope?
and why would god bless OUR nation? Why not Canada? They've never attacked anyone.

The trouble with you religious folks is that you can't stand that the US is a secular nation with no religious affiliation or prejudice. It must kill you to know that one day an atheist will be president.

It is amazing that the Republican Party (of the 1 % for the 1% and nothing but the 1%) is able to gull people who make about $30K a year into voting for them. They have screwed the country (6 Trillion in debt for our kids and grandkids) Screwed the military (an unwinnable quagmire in Iraq and Afghanistan); screwed the government (no federal enforcement of any rule food, toys, oil, employment nothing) screwed the Public (2 million lost jobs $ 4 gasoline; inflation, unemployment) and fixed it so whoever the next President is (99% a Democrat) will be digging out of a huge hole. Thanks GWB 4Q!

    Speaking of Palin's knowledge:

In the Part 3 and 4 interviews, Sarah Palin is reading off of a prompter and the chairs are no longer positioned directly in front of each other. Noticed the positions of the legs and feet.

If you pause the video and slowly scrub across with your mouse frame by frame, you can see that Sarah Palin is looking past Charlie Gibson and sometimes strains to read something, a cue card or a teleprompter. Very interesting.

    Talking about Palin's knowlege:

In the Palin-Gibson Part 3 interview, Sarah Palin is reading off of a prompter and the chairs are no longer positioned directly in front of each other (as they were in the first two interviews.) Noticed the positions of the legs and feet.

If you pause the video and slowly scrub across with your mouse frame by frame, you can see that Sarah Palin is looking past Charlie Gibson and sometimes strains to read something, a cue card or a teleprompter. Very interesting.

How about Vice-God? It's the only position somewhat worthy of Palin. Palin is so smazing, so wonderful, so talented, so much like my crazy Aunty Louise...and reminds me so very, very much of myself. And, most important of all...best of all...she doesn't have a penis! Palin Power!! I'm giddy just thinking about it. Wooowhooo!! One question though...who is this McCain person people sometimes mention?

  • Posted By: subprimeaficianado @ 09/13/2008 3:59:31 PM

privatize profits, socialize losses...corporations are not people, even though they have similar legal rights (poor thomas jefferson!).

  • Posted By: One BlackDemocrat @ 09/13/2008 3:58:39 PM

Thank you for the sarcasm. I am baffled at the number of people who do not understand the gravity of McCain's decision. It is reflected in the number of people who do not see that your toungue is planted firmly in your cheek. For you dolts who need a map to get out of a phone booth, the writer is saying she is unqualified to be VP and he is mocking the Republicans for suggesting it. She should not be a surgeon, a pilot, or a judge because these are not jobs that we give people because we like them or because we wouldn't mind "having a beer" with him or her. Isn't eight years of incompetence enough to convinceyou that intellect might be an asset in the job.

  • Posted By: hungry4goodgovernment @ 09/13/2008 3:57:44 PM

Perhaps? Just perhaps...Palin as Vice God? Not only is she amazing in absolutely everything she does, most importantly, she doesn't have a penis! Woohoo!! I'm just giddy thinking about it! Palin Power, for sure!!
