looks like newsweek readers really ought to learn the meaning of the word satire.

lol! this is actually a very good piece, if you aren't so dull as to interpret everything written by mankind literally. the part about the tediousness of checks and balances had me in stitches...that is not implying i needed surgery...

I don't condider this a joke. Getting back to our founding father's and God's moral values would be just what our country needs.

Of course, she's not a lawyer, has never been trained in law, and knows nothing about it. But who cares! This is America! Who cares any more about merit? Who needs an understanding of the Constitution when you have "unyielding moral certainty"? Why bother with years of careful and dedicated study when you can substitute "relatability"? Hell, I can see the moon so of *course* I can be an astronaut!

I think Dahlia's satire is a bit subtle for the likes of NH Ind

I don't think either party realizes how massive an issue, illegal immigration is going to resonate in November? They may not want to talk about this propagating problem, but the American people knows that it's out-of-control. It's stagnating wages for the working class who are already have major problems with unemployment sky rocketing. Pelosi and here thrall have already pushed another guest worker program in front of their Congress. When we have already have 27 programs stealing jobs from the legal population. This continuous, underhand way of sneaking into the country, has got to stop. Americans are already paying-the-way for parasite employment slave hires. Are the American people going to keep babysitting impoverished families, who illegally arrive in this country? Or are we going going to look after our own poverty stricken citizens?

IT'S YOUR FAMILIES FUTURE. DEPORTATION OR OVERPOPULATION.
IF WE DON'T STOP IT NOW, MILLIONS WILL KEEP COMING TO APPEASE PREDATORY BUSINESSES.

So we see that the manufactured image of Palin has become the truth assumption that forms the basis of left-liberal critique.

explains why media is getting dumber. News media is for the people and for people to read it. Our public is uneducated and understands plays of football far better than plays of sheakespeare. We are headed for a huge downfall, because the vast majority is uninformed and informing them is vain in efforts as seen with this example. I believe that in the words of Will Smith: "They just don't seem to understand"

Put Sarah Palin on the Supreme Court? I have a better idea. Let's put Dahlia Lithwick (who wrote the editorial) on the Supreme Court.. Let's make Sarah Palin the Queen of Russia!
The editors of Newsweek should understand that there is a need for some degree of discretion, and not publish pure nonsense such as this editorial.

  • Posted By: JeffC2008 @ 09/13/2008 3:48:22 PM

The Supreme Court should not be a political institution. The Supreme court should be bipartisan. It should be above politics and should uphold the laws our forefathers set forth, unfortunately, it has become a political institution, it is already stacked with republican appointees and if McCain is elected will likely become 100% conservative; hardly bipartisan. Nothing good can come from this and it should not be joked about..

Wait a minute, is this a joke article? I didn't know newsweek had gone into comedy.

  • Posted By: rstubblefield @ 09/13/2008 3:22:19 PM

I would suggest the author of this article and Sara Palin would better spend their time baking cookies. A candidate for the Supreme Court without even a law degree makes about as much sense as Palin for Vice President.

    • Posted By: luxuryyacht @ 09/13/2008 3:46:54 PM

Hey newsweek, are you in the comedy business?? This is the funnniest thing I've read in days!!

  • Posted By: motorcycleharleigh@hotmail.com @ 09/13/2008 3:45:28 PM

Anyone know what a decision table is or how to convert one to a polychotomous key? well do not fret the details have been worked out. http://en.wikiversity.org/wiki/User:Freshman What hasn't been worked out is how to get the law into the form of decision table. Maybe Palin could help. Maybe McCain could help or maybe that other guy, what's his name could help. Maybe even you could help See the problem?

    Ms. Lithwick:

In your dreams. Would'nt you just love for us to believe your blather with nodding heads? Instead, your greatest challenge is to realize and understand that those of you in the media no longer speak for us nor do we allow you inside our heads as you have been in years past. We are now opening our eyes to the hippocricy of your beliefs and your use of the print and airwaves to try to convince us that we know nothing and should therefore no longer have a voice in the decision making process for this country. Quite the opposite - we are going to take our country back because we do think and we do see and we do know what this country needs. We have waited a long time for an "individual" like Sarah Palin - someone who is not intimidated by the good old boys and the Washington elite. We are the employers and the sooner you realize that the better because we are on a role now and there will be no stopping us. Sarah Palin is exactly what this country needs and just coincidentally, she happens to be a woman. Go peddle your cynicism elsewhere - we got important business to do here.

I couldn't agree more with this comment. Sarah Palin is straight-talking, she's street-smart, and she possesses a quality that the majority of the 'ho-hum....i love to listen to myself talk' Washington insiders will never have...the ability to connect with Americans. I rarely post responses on websites -- but this Independent has been pushed right into the McCain/Palin volunteer center!!!

Palin's premiere is the most insidious product role out since the war in Iraq was sold to an all too gullable American public by the same cynical Republican media manipulators. What is the expiration date on the label? Supreme Court Justice? She's has more in common with Judge Judy. These people don't seem to care whether America is real or just a TV show, as long as they get 4 more years.

Perfect; she can start by repaling the 21st Century and begin building a bridge to the 19th Century. I can envision further advances from Sarah like repealing women's right to vote. She can then follow up by taking back the Emancipation Proclamation (she knows better than Abe what he really meant; she said so on TV)

It is then only a short hop to having only those MEN with a seven figure net worth vote. This is exactly what the Founding Fathers wanted. She will be perfect and the best we can have on the USSC (unless Torquemada becomes available)

Newsweek has gone to the darkside.
    How's this for a headline?
Make Lithwick csar of all media.
Newsweek's left leaning hardly ends at the water cooler.

This has got to be the silliest editorial I have ever read. The Supreme Court is a legal institution, reviewing legal issues. It isn't for someone whose qualification is ith strong opinions, who has little familiarity with the law, with precedent, with the code. If you need somewhere to put her, put her in Congress. To suggest placing Sarah Palin on the Supreme Court is really a commentary on the writer of this editorial, who has allowed himself to be swept along with the crowds.

  • Posted By: alisonsfca @ 09/13/2008 3:32:27 PM

This is a joke, right? Right?!! I fear we are on the verge of our own carefully orchestrated Cultural Revolution.

  • Posted By: JRDevo @ 09/13/2008 3:31:56 PM

I guess Newsweek has joined the fray of left-bent media screamers.

Why don't they get the connection? Palin, a CLEARLY conservative person, appears on the scene and is an instant hit with the public. She overshadows McCain, Obama, and Biden - because hse is fresh, new, outside D.C. and......(shriek) CONSERVATIVE!

Let's do the math - she's popular with Americans and CONSERVATIVE. Americans are SICK of double-talking, fence - straddling, indecisive, butt-kissing, politicians. Like Reagan, she is unapologetic about being CONSERVATIVE - unlike Bush who is really a liberal in GOP clothing (an heir to the Bush dynasty, what'd you expect?)

PALIN IS THE REAL THING - and Americans KNOW IT !

The most revealing picture of Sarah Palin is that bloody caribou picture with her young daughter. Why would you bring a child to a deer hunt? I don't care if you like to hunt, the fact remains that chidren have a natural sensibility toward animals. That little girl seems traumatized as she stares at the bloodied carcas of an animal her mother just shot.Mom kills bambi what a pleasant photo for our family scrapbook. This woman really loves to inflict pain whereever she goes.
