I cannot understand the posters here who do not take this article seriously, of course it is serious and Palin could have a profound influence on America for a very long time.
As for Palins qualifications, of course she is qualified; she could see the court house in Alaska from her office and has evan traveled to various courts.

This is the most ridiculous op-ed piece I have read in quite some time (and I mean that literally, the author deserves to be ridiculed). Seriously, Palin has no legal background aside of running afoul of Alaska employment practices.

It took me a while to get the jest in this story. But, really there are many people (Catholics) who really believe that Sara would be a great Supreme Justice. America is a hypocrite! I love it when Dubya gets on the television and talk about how America is fighting to "free" the Iraq people. I wonder free them from what? The majority of the Iraqis are Muslims. In this country being a Muslim is a bad word. In America there still majority who vote based only on skin color and the intense discrimination on jobs and other areas is overwhelming great. Yep! Sara will be a good supreme justice. She teach us all how to love God, what we watch on TV, and who our friends should be and if we don't agree with her, we may all end up in Abu Greb. I wonder what Jesus would say to the Sanctimonious Catholic priest who now decides who gets elected by preaching election from their pulpit. Whatever happened to the part of the constitution that says separation between church and state? Anyone who listens to how and who they should vote for based solely on skin color and church ruling is an ###%%. We should be able to learn and make choices based on tangible issues and not religion and/or skin color. Sara Palin, a Supreme Court justice...you never know...worst things have been known to happen i.e., Dubya

All we need is an ultra right wing, evangelical, book banning bible thumper on the Supreme Court. No thanks.

  • Posted By: Twixlen @ 09/17/2008 8:49:07 AM

WOW - I had no idea that this level of crazy was professionally writing for Newsweek. Sure, it's an opinion piece - but there should be SOME logic and smarts behind it.

As stated previously - Palin is not a lawyer; the least qualifying benchmark for a Supreme Court Justice.

Also, the comment about her moral certainty being a great asset to the court --- except that I personally find her LACKING in morals, as do many folks. Jesus believing does not equal morals, in spite of what the preachers like to tell folks.

what i really like is john mccain's return to a strict intrepretation of the constitution. I saw that whoopie was wporried about being a slave but women should worry about voting. They didn't count either. It would be nice to have women seen and not heard and know their place. Go John McCain. Senile as hell

Palin spoke person seaking on NPR yesterday stated that Palin is not concered about issies that effect black women, brown women or blue collar working women. But she dose car about women who are executives, so nobody should tell hwer that there are women of collor in this nation who are on the board and are runing things. Her deversaty traing is for a all white Girls club rich onl;y so middle class and poor please don't apply.

At first, I thought this was a joke. Let's get past "Palin isn't experienced enough to sit on the highest court of the land", she isn't even a lawyer. She isn't experienced enough to sit on any court. I get your point about Washington insiders, but when have our standards sunk so low for the VP and Supreme Court that anyone who has this "moral certainty" is qualified. I am sure to people like you, it is "God's Will" but for those of us who are rational, this entire article is not only a joke, it is offensive. To me, she represents a lack of morality and is just an oppurtunist in sheep's clothing.

Good idea! Let us turn further down the true road of turning us into a genuine facist state. I wanna live the rest of my life being told what to do and believe in. National Book Burning day that would be FUN!

  • Posted By: STUGATTS @ 09/17/2008 12:12:12 AM

YOU LIB'S HATE THIS WOMAN, AND YOU HATE THIS COUNTRY! I THINK IT'S FUNNY TO WATCH YOUR SOCIALIST HOPE IN BARACK HUSSEIN CRUMBLE, AS THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SEE STRAIGHT THROUGH HIS EMPTY RHETORC. AND JUDGING BY YOUR COMMENTS, YOU HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THE CONSTITUTION SAYS. TRY READING IT YOU MENTAL MIDGET! AND KNOW THIS, THERE ARE PATRIOTS IN THIS COUNTRY AT EVERY LEVEL OF SOCIETY THAT WILL DEFEND THE CONSTITUTION BY WHATEVER MEANS NECESSARY FROM ALL ENEMIES BOTH FOREIGN AND DOMESTIC.

"How insulting to suggest that those who question the mission, question the troops. How pathetic to suggest that those who question a failed policy doubt America itself." - John Kerry August 2008

    • Posted By: dslovejoy @ 09/17/2008 12:16:35 AM

Yes, there are patriots. Those who stand up to Bush and his other war criminals. Those who are not blinded by party politics and can recognize evil for what it is. You want to read something really interesting? Read the "Patriot Act". Read the comment that Bush made that says the Constitution doesn't apply to him. Then, come out of the cave and get ready to fight.

You're absolutely right; Sarah Palin is just what America needs on the Supreme Court. Her Court endorsed book burnings, purges from government of anyone who doesn't agree with a Republican administration and vicious personal attacks on dissenters will no doubt set this country on the road to righteousness, morality and prosperity. It is God's will.

In the final analysis, it is all about character, moral center, core values and listening to everyday Americans!

The elitist, left-wing Barack fakes it but Sarah is the real thing! She reinforces Senator John McCain's maverick credentials while she diminishes Obama's rhetoric to words only!

BuMcCain and Palin know that reform/change is about working together to improve the way we relate in all aspects of life! It is not about the pseudo savior who contributes to your victimhood so he can meet your needs! :(

McCain/Palin will deliver authentic reform that will inspire everyday Americans to be part of the team! Servant leadership encourages teamwork! :)

    McCain/Palin 08...! :)

She "Sarah Palin" I agree with MeowBaby is not even qualified to be a dog catcher and the freaky bitch is a Wolf Killer without any regard or compassion for living wild creatures. This last point is proven by her spending some over $400,000 of Alaskan dollars to defeat a bill banning aerial hunting of Wolves and other wild life.

What a delightfully sarcastic article. So cleverly articulated, in fact, that only the Repulican ticket would fail to miss the ironical undertones.

If the author really wants to shake up the old boy network on the US Supreme Court, she should be touting the candidancy of Hillary Clinton. She has knowledge of the law, government and the world that Sarah Palin can only dream of. How about we appoint someone who will shake things up and can also be a competent jurist at the same time - just a thought.

    • Posted By: mystik500 @ 09/17/2008 2:55:13 AM

excellent thought. i think hillary is an attorney btw. she is a groundshaker, get it done,a real progressive woman and a kick the brick wall down type of woman. but she has more power as a senior senator, policy maker, more power than the Vp, and that is why she isn't a Vp pick, shame people don't see why Obama didn't pick her, with pelosi, reed, and many others to get policy created and passed, and Biden there as vp to break any tie vote the repubs want to throw up? even i saw the strategy. i don't know about you but the thought of the wealthy triclking down something my way with their tax breaks bush gave them and Mccain wanting to continue that practice? makes me think they are pissing, and spitting on me. I can't allow that degradation, not ever.

Hillary is qualified to do just about anything. I've heard her mentioned for the "supreme" court before and she'd be a huge improvement on what's there already.

  • Posted By: REA49 @ 09/17/2008 12:13:21 AM

Before the Republican Convention, 99.9999% of you had never heard of Palin before. Funny, in just a few weeks, everyone is an expert on her and knows everything about her. You all are just parrots repeating what the news media spoon feeds you. Now get to bed, all of you, and get up early with your mouths wide open, ready to be fed again, like little nestlings.

Let's all join that Alaska Independepent Party or whateve it is and support their separating from the Union. They aren't really a real state anyway, Let's give them what they truely want, or sell them to Russia.

      Screw Alaska.

    • Posted By: mystik500 @ 09/17/2008 2:04:53 AM

Really? Palin is a regressive woman, a brick in the wall. women can tell this about other women, just like men can't tell if two women can't stand each other. the only way men know two women can't stand each other? he has to be told, because of the pretense women put out. It's a known fact when another woman wants to dictate about what another does with her uterus? doesn't like other women, and has no sense of reality. women who like other women and aren't regressive towards women realize this reality, the only uterus she has the right to dictate, have dominion over? is the one she was born with unless, she was born with two inside her body.Women who like other women? will teach the younger woman all she knows about birthcontrol. women who like other women? will not place another nasty deed on a victim of rape or incest. Palin is a brick.Palin is a regressive woman who wouldn't think twice about setting progressive women young or old back 25 yrs or more. I saw and heard enough to realize the danger, and smell it, and my survival and the survival of the progressive young woman i raised is at stake from Palin and all the self destructive women who follow her.BTW? i didn't listen to the press about her. I heard from her very lips. that was all i needed.

I love the tone of this article. It points out how Nuts everything is right now. I was checking out the blogs and noticed a distinctly repub factor. No sense of humor. Everytime someone says something they scream sexism, or Palin hating. If you wanted to have a VP who could run with the big dogs why did you pick a nasty puppy. The sexism whining is starting to give me a head ache.

I am old enough to remember when I worked in officies where I was the only woman and had to do a significantly better job for the same pay. I'm astounded that the repub's are screaming sexism when they have actively opposed every law proposed of ERA or equal pay. How ironic that they resort to a liberal term.

Grow up, pull up your big girl pants and get real.

    • Posted By: mystik500 @ 09/17/2008 2:40:26 AM

Palin is the smack down that the repub and religious right has wanted to give progressive women for yrs for stepping beyond the kitchen, and bedrm. And I'm appalled at the thought of Palin being VP. Is this the best pick they had to offer? and i wonder about the women that are voting for her. I shake my head at the thought of the most powerful women in the world happen to be American women could be so self destructive and not realize that smack down and insult set before them. condie would have been a wise pick, but me thinks condie is sick of them, condie has a nasty look of disgust on her face, she can't wait to escape.I heard my 82 yr old mother say something to her group of friends the other day about MCcain. she said well he married his purse, i guess he needs a nurse close by, that's what old men MCcain's age do.Then she said now you know why i tell you to stay away from old men.i'm still laughing

Has she ever read a brief ? Can she write a brief ? Does she subscribe to the reasonable person principle ? Can she speak in language other than cheap shots, innuendos and lies ? Is she capable of engaging her brain before running her mouth ?

  • Posted By: kittykat9 @ 09/16/2008 8:27:11 PM

Sarah in Supreme Court, no more like VP would be fine, people underestimate her and they will see someone who will change things. Or you could have, Obama is your classic gold digger, ???he aint nothing but a gold digger???, Obama just wants the presidents seal as a memento, social climber, grumpy, someone who is just gunning for wearing the presidential robe and flying on the presidential Jet it???s a wet dream for Obama.

Frankly, kittykat9, I do not want to spend time at a bbq with the president of the U.S. i want that person in the Oval office working for the good of the country and not sloughing off.
