All I know is that many friends of mine and therefore myself will be canceling our cruise to Alaska to go to Tahiti instead. Apparently Alaska is a lawless place and not deserving of our tax dollars. Join the boycott people. Screw Alaska!

Perfect. I love it. Screw Alaska. That prety much says it all.

Gosh people Palin is sounding like another Hitler or a dictator at least.
Do as I say but not as I do. That is the Republican way of life.

McCain and Palin would be real change, people banging their drum of oh he lies and oh he is like bush dont know what they are talking about, Obama head in the clouds , pulled himself up by the bootstrap all his entries in his life were for one purpose to make his mark that???s it.
*He was a community organizer, instead of going for a good paying job= looks good on the being helpful when running for president.
*He got elected to the state senate by getting his mentor kicked off the ballot
*He got his name on all kinds of bills to make it look like he knew what he was doing
*He got elected into the US Senate by being the only one on the ballot that didn???t have a sex or drug scandal going on.
*He was only 143 days before he decided to run for office of the president of the United States 143 days?! Yes it???s true
*He chalks up running a campaign as experience to run the country??? please.
*He is reaching for the Holy Grail by cutting in line ahead of far more experienced and candidates that we could have confidence in. (Hillary)
*He has very, very small life experience, let???s see???. Im drawing a blank
*there are no shortcuts to the presidency Obama.

You don't have the right to use kitty or kat in your name. My cats would claw your demented brains out.

Please tell me this article is a joke. Even if it is a joke, it's not funny at all. Sarah Palin would be an utterly disastrous supreme court choice. She doesn't even know what the Bush Doctrine is. For crying out loud, Newsweek needs to get better writers because this is just inane.

  • Posted By: Greygolla @ 09/17/2008 2:07:48 AM

This agenda is just the ticket. McCain could have a better choice of VP and still capture the prize Commander in Chief position he wants. He dearly wants to show us how to win a war. Plus, now that we are in one, unlike that Viet Nam conflict deal, he can command the domestic front too. Whiny liberal press; off to the Fema Prison. Recalcitrant congressman, arrest the traitor. And with sweet Sarah, the new constitution pointer girl, down at the Supreme Prize Court, why things couldn't be better for the neocons. They can legislate our morality till it smells to high heaven. You can be just as maverick as you want with God on your side.

There's also no truth to the rumor (started by someone who sounds surprisingly like myself) that when Charlie Gibson asked her about the "Bush Doctrine," she thought he said "Bush Doctorin'" and thought it had something to do about douching.

I think I get it now: Lithwick WAS firmly planting tongue in cheek--right??

  • Posted By: Apollochan @ 09/16/2008 6:10:08 PM

This article clearly shows how absolutely uneducated the writer is when discussing the judicial branch of American government. The way this piece is written suggests that the function of Supreme Court Justice is to merely make ruling based solely on their own opinions--not based on our laws, history, or constitution. To suggest that someone with absolutely NO legal experience could effectively legislate based on their own morals is absolutely idiotic. Dahlia Lithwick, you are a prime example of why the American people are unable to directly elect our Judges, and I, for one, am so thankful for that.

Sarah Palin could never be appointed to the Supreme court because she never went to law school, which automatically disqualifies her from ever becoming a Supreme Court justice. I think this law school graduate simply wanted to write ANYTHING about Sarah Palin (since ironically she's the hottest ticket in media), and made a dubious attempt at humor but failed terribly.

I refuse to believe there are that manyh people in THIS country, who are THAT ignorant,! Ms. Lithwick, i thank you for realizing that some people are not capable of growing a pair, thank you for letting us borrow yours; now on to business..........THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WERE SWINDLED IN THE PAST TWO ELECTIONS, AND WE KNOW IT, THE PROBLEM IS WE DON'T HAVE THE MORAL COURAGE TO CONFRONT THAT UNCOMFORBABLE REALITY....DO WE? WIL WE STAND FOR IT ONCE AGAIN? BECAUSE I PROMISE YOU IT WILL HAPPEN..........YOOUR RIGHTS, YOUR PROPERTY, AND YOUR SONS AND DAUGHTERS HAVE BEEN TAKEN AWAY FROM YOU, AND ALL YOUCAN DO IS SQUABLLE,........MEEKLY IF AT ALL. IS THIS MY COUNTRY?? ARE THESE MY PEOPLE??? AREN'T WE AMERICANS??? WE AS A COUNTRY FED THE ENTIRE WORLD, AND CURED HATRED FROM EXTREMIST, REACTIONARY DEMAGOGUES; HAVE WE FORGOTTEN THAT???!!! RISE AND CLAIM WHAT'S RIGHTFULLY YOURS!!! SERVE THE WORL AS BEACON OF HOPE, BE PROUD ONCE AGAIN, DO YOU REMEMBER HOW???

No not at this point in time, they have pushed way to far, and right now I want revenge. Hopefully in the morning I will think clearly but right now I am way too furious. I don't know if I want to still be just another branded American. I'm ready to tune out of this mess, keep my money from "those people" the government, for myself alone and my family. To hell with our sick society. I am so outraged that I need to change SOMETHING.

  • Posted By: meowbaby7 @ 09/17/2008 1:43:49 AM

I will never support any republican for anything either, but I don't think she means anything other than McShame and Scarah are a horrifying choice. And she's right, of course.

  • Posted By: darcylu @ 09/17/2008 12:57:53 AM

OH MY GOD I'M GOING TO VOMIT. WTF!!! DON'T EVEN JOKE ABOUT SOMETHING LIKE THIS. IT IS NOT FUNNY.
I think I am going to have to seriusly consider a grassroots campagn (you know , do some serius community organizing) to overthrow the tax system or something as equally disguting as mccain and pailn.

FOR THE FIRST TIME IN MY LIFE, ITHINK I'M GOING TO HAVE TO GO BUY GUNS. LOTS OF THEM. RIFLES, hundguns, semi-automatic machine guns, anything and everything.

And I promise you, I will never kill a defenseless animal. I think we need to start a smiling, yet arrogant, huge group of god-spouting left wing radicals who carry guns and stop being polite unless you agree with OUR WAY.

wtf. enough is enough. I'm NOT kidding. AMERICA IS A BIG JOKE. GOD IS ASHAMED OF ALL OF YOU WHINING FAKES ON THE RIGHT. SHE TOLD ME SO, AND WE (God and me) are SICK OF ALL OF YOU. You know who you are. You should be afraid.

    • Posted By: mystik500 @ 09/17/2008 1:37:43 AM

you must understand the mentality of MCcain, Palin, the relgious right, and some of the repubs. they want to create a country of the oppressed, remind you of other countries? where politics and religion have merged to create laws of the land?

    • Posted By: darcylu @ 09/17/2008 1:15:16 AM

Seriously, I know how to spell serious, but that word certainly doesn't belong in any discussion (ha!!!) that has the dishonorable name(s) of mccain and/or palin in it. And to think that once I would have been fine if mccain actually won, I actually could have voted for him. But that is NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN, even if I had a gun to my head. I'd shoot back. I will never support any republican for anything EVER. And to think I actually used to declare myself an independant.

  • Posted By: notechguy @ 09/17/2008 1:13:27 AM

    Very amusing.

OK Sarah...your 15 minutes of fame is up. Turn out the lights before you leave.

NO put regressive Palin back in that backwater state from which she came.I know which females she represents, the self destructive female here in America. Palin is what real independent progressive women call another brick in the wall, yes that wall that regressive women have built for decades that keep the progressive women from crossing over. Never mind the glass ceiling, that is much easier to break.Palin is the smack down. the republican party and the religious right has wanted to give all the progressive women who step out of the bounds.

By far, this is the most ridiculous article/commentary I have read regarding this campaign thus far. I was profoundly shocked to discover that Dahlia Lithwick actually went to law school because she displays a blaring ignorance of what the Supreme Court of this nation really is. Furthermore, she argues that Supreme Court sessions should become, upon admittance of Sarah Palin as a Justice, like episodes of Judge Judy ??? during which the ???judge??? not only ignores the law, but replaces the law of the land with her own ???gut??? feelings. The thought of Sarah Palin as a Supreme Court Justice evokes the same feelings as the thought of her as VP, or heaven forbid, President ??? an almost indescribably painful and intense gut-wrenching cringe.

Thank you, though, Ms. Lithwick, for reaffirming my decision to choose another law school over Stanford???s school of law. If you are any indication of the type of attorneys and thinkers Stanford turns out, I am profoundly thankful that I haven???t wasted three years of my life there. And, just because the Ivy League law schools and corporate firms discovered your gross intellectual weaknesses as I now have, it doesn???t mean that those who made it in to Yale Law should be banned from the nation???s highest court and legal honor.

    Ms. Dizzy Dahlia,
Your cynicism is terrific (It's not journalism, but it's terrific.). Now apply your standards to the #1 Democrat candidate and see how he stacks up in national security, health care, immigration, and foreign policy. A bit shallow, you say? No kidding!

Give Bush a third term, or put Mccain and his regressive partner up there as president. My fellow Americans are way too stupid for real change. Please give exemption passes to the Americans that wanted real change, this way they won't be affected from the same old BS that has been in effect for the last 8 yrs
