It is only prophets of doom and gloom that make us feel that world might have fallen apart if they would have not been around. We have heard quite a bit of this 'mantra" and it is time for change, and change in all aspects of life including in thought-process. It is time to say good-bye to fear-mongers, and have a fresh look at things. We need a person of vision and not someone from a bridge to nowhere. "Thanks but NO Thanks."

Well spoken as always, Fareed. What truly bothers me is that these "neocons" are like cockroaches-- everyone knows they exist and contaminate everything but where are they when we shine the light on them? Why are we not able to identify these neocons and properly label them for what they are? Fear-mongers! Why can't the moderates in the Republican Party stand up and take back their party so that we can actually have a decent debate between the candidates based on the issues rather than being constantly distracted by obviously political ploys?

    Someone PLEASE help!!!

'Cartergame"? - is this Jimmy Carter? I ask because your rhetoric is about as mush-headed as his. Perhaps you can define "neocons" for us? The latin root words would suggest that it means new conservatives, and yet it is consistently applied to old conservatives like Cheney, Rumsfeld (when he was serving), etc. Worse yet, it is a term made up by left-wingers in the news media...therefore it is nothing but a meaningless rallying cry of the left that means nothing whatsoever.

There are many issues with America . Point 1 is that it is able to visualise goblins where exist none. Point 2 is that it needs to continue to visualise non-existent goblins to justify its own existence. Point 3 is that most of its politicians have never seen a world outside of the U.S. The people are gullible and thus deserve the politicians they get . It is sad to see a great country like America go down the drain. It brings to my mind the character of John Nash in the film "A Beautiful Mind'.......brilliant but self-destructive .... America needs help but is too arrogant to ask and frankly a country which has the stupidity to elect a moron to the highest office in the land ... not once....but twice....surely had it coming.

Do you believe a black man can be the president of US? You underestimate the meaning
    of democracy in US.

And "Why so?" As far as politicians and the military are concerned, WWII served to provide the "winning template"- aggressive foreign intervention is the key to defeating the enemy. Super powers always have super enemies, so it is easy to rouse public fear. The military also needs a war every decade to fine tune its latest incarnation. One doesn't stay top-dog without a field to play in. Practice is required. Moreover, national-level politicians also find dealing with domestic issues quite difficult, and it is easier for them to steer public concern towards the urgency to fight America's enemies. So America has allowed its psyche to become dominated by fear-mongering. National priorities, hence, have become determined by means of fostering fear- however real or imagined. It is evident why Americans are so quick to express extreme hubris and vain pride about their country- they are scared as hell and woefully ignorant to boot. Politicians leverage this with cynical manipulative brilliance. Nixon and McCarthy laid the groundwork for it, and it still persists today.

Logically, the next question is "Why so?" Fear-mongering is routinely leveraged by politicians, and neatly plays into a vast military structure that requires a war every decade to stay finely tuned. WWII serves to give the impression military intervention is always the needed response to foreign "danger." And Americans are still by-in-large woefully ignorant of the world beyond its borders. Super powers by definition always have super enemies, and Americans' tend to react to their super status in paranoid terms. Politicians have had a field day manipulating the American public as such. Focusing on solving domestic problems- which are politically difficult by nature- are cast aside in favor of the constant urgency to bang someone over the head in some foreign land. Fear-mongering is a way of winning elections, while serving the interests of the military-industrial complex. Very neat and tidy, simple approach to politics.

John McCain who is cynically running the sleaziest and least honorable campaign in modern Presidential campaign history. His discredited ads with disgusting lies are running all over the country today. He runs a campaign not worthy of the office he is seeking.
