This is of course a joke, right ? This bozo says"Rather than debating whether Barack Obama voted to teach sex education to kindergartners (he didn't) or called Sarah Palin a pig (he didn't),"
The truth? He did and he did. You can lie all you want. But facts are stubborn things.

Sad, nowadays... the people don't really get their unbiased news anymore, not giving us a choice w/truth. They can lie all they want, and only a few citizen will research ... while the rest will believe anything put out by the media. Politicians spin ... sad but true. Media does too... many are just average in their comprehension and work, but they portray themselves as above the citizens. Go past the spins.
This is a great article. The media need to publicize what distortion and lies are being made by the McCain campaign. If this type of campaign wins the election for McCain, then this will be a very sad commentary on the American electorate. The media needs to expose what appears to be a calculated and deceptive campaign!

To sks1965: First of all, you bash the author for having a liberal bias, yet everything you said was just a paraphrasing of Sean Hannity. Second of all, why would women switch from Clinton to Palin even though their policies are opposite from each other. Third, he didn't refuse to say the pledge of allegiance. Fourth, are you kidding me? Obama's relation with Wright was not given a free pass. Ayers, maybe, but not Wright. Finally, just because the author has a liberal bias, that doesn't mean he/she's wrong.

I agree that Obama gets things done and a lot is because of his temperament and ability to work with people. He can focus on important details and doesn't et lost in the forest. he would make an excellent president and we need one with his personality at this time in our history.
can the candidates & campaigns stop talking about pigs & lipstick and get on with it like grown ups?
and we're hoping some in this cast of characters might lead this country?
to where?
my god what a circus !
Way to go about your continued cheerleading for Sen. Obama. Those bills that he supposedly "authored" in the Illinois Senate? Most of them were the work of other democratic lawmakers that could not get passed under a Republican dominated state senate. When the democrats finally got the majority, and Obama's "mentor", Emil Jones, took over leadership of the senate, he gave the bills that had been languishing to Obama to "author" and then made sure they were pushed through. All of this has been reported on previously in the Chicago Tribune and the Chicago Sun Times. It was also reported on in an article in the New York Times. None of these media outlets are what I would call right wing rags. If you are going to defend Sen. Obama, at least have the courtesy to be truthful in your defense.
This woman is saying just false.
if to follow her - one may make good career just doing disclosure.
Nasty person.
Disgrace for America to have her on the ticket.
Disgrace for generations to come
How refreshing to read an article with some depth.
junkmail7 needs to do a little more homework. Sex education has a purpose for each and every grade. For the little ones, it's teaching them to know when something isn't right - so, please, get real. Talk about distortion.
Yes, this will get around - all you have to do is send it. For heaven's sake, speak up when injustice rears its ugly head. Jonathan Alter did. No reason we can't.
I agree with Sherrybb: this is an excellent presentation of both facts and values. Unfortunately, we have become a society of labels and stereotypes, and the fact that this commentary is published in Newsweek, to some, is its own condemnation -- regardless of the content. I hope that the Obama campaign can find a way to get this perspective into the 'mainstream' consciousness directly - not through Newsweek or MSNBC.
Too bad this excellent analysis will be discredited by many because it appears in what has become derided as the 'NY liberal' media. I hope the Obama campaign can fnd a way to get this 'reality check' expressed directly, in campaign stops and/or TV ads, and through their surrogates. Maybe folks like Bill Clinton making this case would be a powerful antidote to the proliferation of McCain-Palin deception.
These bills in the Senate that Obama had his name on did not require much effort and persuasion. They passed almost unanamusly. He has no record of working with the Republicans and has voted pure party line. His does not show courage or bipartisanship like McCain.
The fact that he is the most liberal person in the Senate puts him at odds with most Americans who are right in the middle.
There is nothing compelling or outstanding about his record aside from the fact that he is a gifted speaker.

John McCain who is cynically running the sleaziest and least honorable campaign in modern Presidential campaign history. His discredited ads with disgusting lies are running all over the country today. He runs a campaign not worthy of the office he is seeking.
