      OK you Republicans - what IS a liberal anyway? For that matter, what IS a conservative? Do conservatives believe in bankrupting the country and taking us into preemptive illegal wars (causing tens of thousands of innocent deaths and destroying tens of thousands of lives in the process)? It's easy to have someone else do your thinking for you. Are you a conservative? What do you believe the role of government is? Is that really better than a liberal?

        HERE IS THE ANSWER !For those who slept through World History 101...here is a condensed
        version.
        Humans originally existed as members of small bands of nomadic
        hunters/gatherers. They lived on deer in the mountains during the summer
        and would go to the coast and live on fish and lobster in the winter.
        The two most important events in all of history were:
        1. The invention of beer, and
        2. The invention of the wheel.
        The wheel was invented to get man to the beer, and the beer to the man.
        These facts formed the foundation of modern civilization and together were
        the catalyst for the splitting of humanity into two distinct subgroups:
        1. Liberals.
        2. Conservatives.
        Once beer was discovered, it required grain and that was the beginning of
        agriculture. Neither the glass bottle nor aluminum can were invented yet,
        so while our early humans were sitting around waiting for them to be
        invented, they just stayed close to the brewery. That's how villages were
        formed.
        Some men spent their days tracking and killing animals to BB Q at night
        while they were drinking beer. This was the beginning of what is known as
        the Conservative movement.
        Other men who were weaker and less skilled at hunting learned to live off
        the conservatives by showing up for the nightly BBQ's and doing the
        sewing, fetching, and hair dressing. This was the beginning of the Liberal
        movement.
        Some of these liberal men eventually evolved into women. The rest became
        known as girlie-men.
        Some noteworthy liberal achievements include the domestication of cats,
        the invention of group therapy and group hugs, the evolution of the
        Hollywood actor, and the concept of Democratic voting to decide how to
        divide all the meat and beer that conservatives provided.

          Point of clarification: while conservatives didn't "discover" [sic, should be "invent"] beer, they did PROVIDE the beer because they invented the tax-loophole that left them enough money to invent the monopoly. : )

          Over the years, Conservatives came to be symbolized by the largest, most
          powerful land animal on earth, the elephant. Liberals are symbolized by
          the jackass.
          Modern liberals like imported beer (with lime added), but most prefer
          white wine or imported bottled water. They eat raw fish but like their
          beef well done. Sushi, tofu, and French food are standard liberal fare.
          Another interesting evolutionary side note: most of liberal women have
          higher testosterone levels than their men.
          Most social workers, personal injury attorneys, journalists, dreamers in
          Hollywood and group therapists are liberals. Liberals invented the
          designated hitter rule because it wasn't fair to make the pitcher also
          bat.
          Conservatives drink domestic beer. They eat red meat and still provide for
          their women. Conservatives are big-game hunters, rodeo cowboys,
          lumberjacks, construction workers, firemen, medical doctors, police
          officers, corporate executives, athletes, Marines, and generally anyone
          who works productively. Conservatives who own companies hire other
          conservatives who want to work for a living.
          Liberals produce little or nothing. They like to govern the producers and
          decide what to do with the production. Liberals believe Europeans are more
          enlightened than Americans. That is why most of the liberals remained in
          Europe when conservatives were coming to America. They crept in after the
          Wild West was tamed and created a business of trying to get more for
          nothing.
          Here ends today's lesson in world history.......
          It should be noted that a liberal may have a momentary urge to angrily
          respond to the above but will be worried that what they write will be proven to be true !

      If you were familiar with Mr. Alter, you would realize that he tends to be more of a liberal. Just as if you ever listened to or read Bill Kristol, Charles Krauthammer, David Brookes, or Tony Blankley, you would summize that they were conservatives. So what is your point?

    Once again Obama talks out of both sides of his mouth:

    The Obama campaign issued an angry denial to a report yesterday that the Democratic presidential candidate privately urged Iraqi leaders to delay U.S. troop withdrawals, but the statement essentially confirmed the story.

    Responding to a column by Iranian-born analyst Amir Taheri in the New York Post, Obama spokeswoman Wendy Morigi insisted Obama "has never urged a delay in negotiations, nor has he urged a delay in immediately beginning a responsible drawdown of our combat brigades."

    But in the same statement, Morigi said Obama had told the Iraqis they should not rush through a "Strategic Framework Agreement" governing the future of U.S. troops until after President Bush leaves office, the Associated Press reported.

    In his column, Taheri writes that he interviewed Iraqi Foreign Minister Hoshyar Zebari, who confirmed Obama met with Iraqi leaders in Baghdad to urge a delay in the withdrawal of American forces.

    "He asked why we were not prepared to delay an agreement until after the U.S. elections and the formation of a new administration," Zebari reportedly said.

        The Logan Act (18 U.S.C.A. § 953 [1948]) is a single federal statute making it a crime for a citizen to confer with foreign governments against the interests of the United States. Specifically, it prohibits citizens from negotiating with other nations on behalf of the United States without authorization.

        Congress established the Logan Act in 1799, less than one year after passage of the ALIEN AND SEDITION ACTS, which authorized the arrest and deportation of ALIENS and prohibited written communication defamatory to the U.S. government.

        But a legal mind like Obama would have know the law concerning this.

    Who says he took a job at a fraction of what he could have made elsewhere? What kind of grades did Obama have in college? He won't release the records. Maybe he couldn't get a better job.

    I hear a lot about Obama at Harvard, but nothing much about Obama's performance at Columbia. Here's what I have been able to find:

    "Contributing to the mystery is the fact that nobody knows just how well Mr. Obama, unlike Senator McCain and most other major candidates for the past two elections, performed as a student.

    The Obama campaign has refused to release his college transcript, despite an academic career that led him to Harvard Law School and, later, to a lecturing position at the University of Chicago.       You're showing your ignorance w/ regard to how much the avg. salary on wall st and a major law firm vs. Obama returning to chicago to be a community organizer upon compleation of law school! "Maybe he couldn't get a better job." is LAUGHABLE!!!

      I can say w/ certainty that a first yr attorney starts at around $160K. wall st. probably a lot more. you do know that obama graduated first in his class at harvard, right? from your post you have no idea what gravitas that carries for future employment. not to mention he was editor of the harvard law review. once again, this is beyond prestigious recognition and only the brightest of the brite get to carry this out.

      So, you think he was a dummy at columbia and magically rose to the top of his class at harvard? how did he get in you ask? ever hear of the LSAT? it's like that thing you took in 11th grade (if you made it that far) except it's for law school. it's a 2-day exam. not easy.

      Should we talk about the republican ticket education? OK!
      The lovely ms. palin attended 5 schools in 6 yrs and got a BA in journalism
      mr mccain attended the us navel academy and graduated 894 out of 899.

      McCain is old and tired...he couldn't even respond to the news cycle today w/out a teleprompter. Did you know that there's a15% chance (or greater, given his cancer history) he'll die within the next 4 years? I would be embarassed to live in this country under the prospect of president Palin. Seriously, I am very affraid of this prospect.

            So, who would've known what to do at the time. Nevermind all the politics, we were close to having everything we knew turned upside down when 9/11 happened. Bush pulled us out of a pretty bad mess like or not and did the best that he could, the best that anybody could have done. Since that time it is a different story.However I wasn't too fond of the Clinton era either, much could be said about that time as well and I do have my reasons.

        Never mind McCain cancer history -- at least cancer is something that can be checked for periodically -- and most cancers can be arrested.. I'm more frightened by McCain family history of sudden heart attacks. His grandfather died at 63; his father at 70 -- both of unsuspected heart attacks. My feeling is that McCain is living on borrowed time.

      How can you trust someone who's had the chance these last 26 years to "reform" the government but didn't? McCain says he knows how to get Bin Ladin. Why doesn't he tell someone then? Is he going to do it only after he's elected? Why wait? He's putting all of us in danger if he really does know how to get Bin Ladin. Or maybe he's lying to us. Either way - how can this person be trusted leading our country in such trying time?

    Could it be McCain is the maverick he claims to be yet is trying to agree or pander to everyone at the same time, Maybe thats why he seems very confused all the time and contradicts himself.

    Although for a guy who has been to Iraq 8 times and doesn't know the difference between shih and Shiite and thinks Iraq has a common border with Pakistan leads me to believe his confusion is more a matter of approaching senility.

    There's more to Maverick than forgeing bipartisan "deals! " not everything "BIPARTISAN" is a deal. Biden is no example of bipartisanship. And we can say that because he--unlike Obama-- has an actual history in the US senate!
    Obama is an unknown,except that he has an enduring facination for domestic terrorists and pigs' lips. And Obama has crafted his activities to attack and counter Palin!
    Meanwhile the DNC is doing an about face in the Congress, and now decides to permit more domestic oil exploration and drilling!--(yes!). So the BIPARTISAN "deals" the Dems arrive at are going to take place and the degree of MAVERICK McCain is won't be a deterent! and the DNC will throw the Green agenda off the train because the DNC runs an americans suck first camapiagn... and Greenies are Americans!

    Attention all Democrats! Obama is not running against Sara Palin. Quit worrying about her inexperience in the position of Cmdr. in chief and start worrying about Obama's. Obama Vs. Palin would be a decent race however Obama isn't worthy of holding Cmdr.McCain's flight suit.

    The Republicans will now seek to suppress minority votes any way that they can, because they have no real platform, which is why they avoid the real issues and play up false ones. They simply want to win the election by hook or crook, mostly crooked ways, because they simply cannot win on the issues. Shameless pandering to even the slightest racist and bigots of the nation to assist them in keeping the black man out of office is central to their continued lie telling and good old boy attack ads (i.e., Swift-Boat and what supposed to emulate Joe Blow average citizens racial statements and other racially charged tactics), all designed to increase racial negativity and recreate the lines that have racially kept this nation divided for decades.

      Surpressing the black vote would be a waste of time for republicans. To be honest it is a non-issue. Blacks make up about 14% of the popuation. Perhaps half of them 7% are eligible to vote. Lets say turnout is half or 3.5%. Many of these people live in urban centers that are already conceeded to the democrats. I know that the fantasy of evil republicans in white hoods tickles your fancy but its just another trick by the limousine liberals to control your thoughts and votes.

    McCain has worked across the aisle more often than Obama. Whether looking at bills they have led on or bills they have signed onto, Mr. McCain has reached across the aisle far more frequently and with more members than Mr. Obama since the latter came to the Senate in 2005.

    In fact, by several measures, Mr. McCain has been more likely to team up with Democrats than with members of his own party. Democrats made up 55 percent of his political partners over the last two Congresses, including on the tough issues of campaign finance and global warming. For Mr. Obama, Republicans were only 13 percent of his co-sponsors during his time in the Senate, and he had his biggest bipartisan successes on noncontroversial measures, such as issuing a postage stamp in honor of civil rights icon Rosa Parks.

    Jonathan Alder tells that Palin knows a lot about energy. Let???s accept that premise and look at the facts.

    1. According to a Fact.Check run by Newsweek itself last spring, it will take years for the oil that we???re getting now to reach the market to affect oil prices. Because India and China are using more oil, demand will continually increase and so will prices.

    2. Energy independence is a false issue. We may be able to stop buying oil from terrorists states, but terrorist states can always sell that oil somewhere else, so we???re not stopping terrorism by more off-shore drilling.

    3. Alaska provides us with oil ONLY because of the 1977 ban on exporting oil, a law that both the Cato Institution and the Heritage Foundation have attacked. Alaska sells oil to America only because America pays top dollar for Alaskan oil. Should the folks in India, China, or even easter Siberia offer more money for Alaskan oil, Alaskan oil companies will find a way to skirt the export ban and export Alaskan oil. If Palin is vice president she???ll do everything she can to muddle the oil flow because 86% of Alaskan revenues come from oil, and money trumps country any and every time,.

    4. Although Palin is finally deciding that global warming is due to some kind of ???human activity??? she can???t figure out which human activity that is. Nor does she understand that if we want to save the planet we need to act NOW, not 20 years from now. And the media tells us that she???s intelligent???? In the meantime, Hurricane Ike has damaged our oil facilities and Category Ike was only a category 1 Hurricane. What will happen when a Category 3, 4 or 5 Hurricane hits the same area. Note I said ???when??? for a reason. Thanks to global warming, and thanks to McCain???s proposed energy policies , we can expect more droughts, more floods, more tornadoes, - and hurricanes.

    4. In addition to the threat of hurricanes, Palin is totally clueless about the effects of global warming on her own state. She has no idea of what will happen when the Polar Ice cap disappears completely. That???s likely to happen before 2012. She also does not know what will happen if the prema frost in Alaska melts. She does not know how many tons of methane and carbon dioxide are trapped inside Alaskan permaforst, or what will happen of those greenhouses gases escape,. Although Palin can tell us that Russia is near Alaska, she is not aware of what will happen if the permafrost in Siberia starts to melt, releasing millions tons of methane and carbon dioxide.

    Palin knows about as much about energy as the Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland, except that the Cheshire cat made more sense.

    The difference is not merely procedural, by proposing appropriations in bills that are debated, the proposals are shown the light of day and open to criticism and publicity. Keeping the special requests in the dark, like Obama's millions in earmark requests for political supporters, financial supporters, and even his wife's employer denies the public information about what Congress is actually doing with their money.
