The political reporting is so one-sided in favor of Obama that most of us - independent voters - are not paying much attention to columns such as this one. The MSM will have to share the blame for the Democrats losing this election, since the MSM has relentlessly advocated for the baseless promotion of a rookie Senator towards nomination. We can see through the smoke-and-mirrors of Obama and prefer the straight talk of McCain.

Nice article about each candidate... thank you. As for who deserves the mantra for change?

    I strongly beleive this.

It never ceases to amaze me that philosophers, scholars, authors and financial experts in droves write about the current fleecing of our constitution our nation, and of the American middle class.

All the while conservatives continue to flock to right-wing evangelists, tabloid pundits and GOP theology!

After 7 and a half years of GOP subversion what does the nation have to show? An economy in shambles, unfinished wars more on the horizon and debt so enormous China and other foreign countries now own much of our nations remaining equity!

Conservatism is a dismal failure, the proof is in your house equity, your bank accounts, your paycheck, it???s on Wallstreet, its on the shelves of your supermarket, its on the corner gas station, its in job and house lose,
on the streets and deserts of Iraq and Afghanistan.

It???s in the defiance from Pakistan, Russia, Venezuela and now China!

And so the same old personal song and dance about character, vision and dignity play out across the nation. Remember this ???Bush has character, he has vision, he is honest, experienced!??? We all know the truth of this aberration.

We all know conservatives want to plug in John Mccain, the same theology the same ideology from yet another legislator "insider" that represents the betrayal, the greed and the duplicity that has buried us to this point!

Great nations are upheld and wars are won or lost by the rightness and decency of the participants!
As our nations history goes we have never lost a war when we were right but now we have lost wars because we were ideologically wrong! This is wisdom the McCain and the neocons just don't grasp!

It???s not just about strength its about wisdom and justice.
Such American qualities that have been inactive during the past seven plus years due to conservative politics!
It right in front of you. Open your eyes, just read and leave denial at the door!

Sex, age, and color will always be bones of contention in politics. Political correctness is equivalent to a war against nature. Birds of a feather naturally flock together until they are able to trade obscene amounts of money for their personal desires. Charity or mercy need not apply.

WHEN THE LIBERAL ELITE "MAIN STREAM MEDIA" INJECTS ITSELF INTO A NATIONAL US ELECTION, IT LEADS TO THE "LAW OF UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES"

IF THERE'S WAS NO "MSM" BIAS AGAINST HILLARY, HILLARY WOULD BE THE US PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE AND OBAMA WOULD BE THE VP CANDIDATE

IF THE TICKET IS CLINTON/OBAMA.....THERE IS NO SARAH PALIN EFFECT

IF THERE IS NO SARAH PALIN, THERE IS MCCAIN/ROMNEY REPUB TICKET

THEREFORE, THERE WOULD BE 8 YEARS OF CLINTON/OBAMA ADMINISTRATION

THEREFORE, THERE WOULD BE 8 YEARS OF OBAMA/KEANE ADMINSTRATION

BY US LIBERAL ELITE MEDIA BACKING OBAMA AND TRASHING HILLARY, THEY LOSE A POSSIBLE 16 YEARS IN POWER AND WILL PROBABLY NOW LOSE 8 OUT OF THE LAST 11 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS

THE MSM DESERVES WHAT IT GETS

  • Posted By: cferns1530 @ 09/14/2008 12:35:17 PM

The guy below doesnt mind if McCain has a short fuse. What's more funny is within 8 years, McCain has totally shifted to the party that smeared him. Why?
1)Because with all of Cindy's money he would'nt have made it past either Hillary or Obama.
2)Palin and McCain dont even stand the same on several issues.
3)Palin's interview of experience on Alaskan National Guard and mentioned Russia as their neighbour was absolutely HILARIOUS! And the Bush doctrine part, i'll cut her some slack. What to say, before her selection as VP she said she doesnt know 'What a VP does' so i dont blame her.

  • Posted By: Mr.Gomez @ 09/14/2008 12:01:48 PM

I trust McCain more with our Nation's checkbook than I do Obama. I don't care if he has a short fuse as
long as it's because of righteous indignation. Teddy Roosevelt was not known to be the quietest of
politicians either and he was one of the BEST mavericks ever! Who cares what party they represent
as long as they understand monetary policy and Obama doesn't. If you love him so much, continue
worshipping him. But take some time to review his web page and all the "I wills" he has planned.
And then tell me how social security will remain solvent. Under his monetary plans, I believe, for the first time
in our Nation's history we will default on our treasury obligations! Here's you tax credit but we can't
pay the interest due on our bonds! I'll take the man with the temper any day over the man who
    needs to be loved!

Congratulations Mr. Alter!!! There should be more journalist like yourself explaining the facts!!!....and there should be more "intelligent" people analizing the THRUTH before voting instead of voting party line or because they were told at church, start thinking by yourself people, specially republicans!!!!

This is the first election I have paid full attention to with all the amazing twist and turn as well as the many historic firsts. However, the coverage from the media, the quality of the discussion by either professional or self-styled journalists are disappointing, to say the least. Most people use their platforms to push shamelessly for the respective candidate of their choice.

When this country is facing great challenges in many fronts: economy, education, domestice infrastructures, readiness in disasters natural or man-made, environment, health care, not to mention national security, the frenzy coverages focus shift from Obama, the darling of year, now to Palin, the new kid who might wrestle the Obama coronation away.

The same people who accuse the other side using dirty tricks, distorting facts or telling half-truth are master themselves. It seems to me that we should add journalism integrity and honesty on the endagnered list that needs protection.

Family teach children when there touched ? Do you know its usually a family memeber who does this? We havent protected our children we prefer to pretend this doesnt happen in our homes . Stop the hate speech stick to the facts ,,Stop spreeding false rumors ..It blows me away that just because your a republican or a democrate no matter what you vote for your party .. H e or she could be a horrible person and people would still vote party . I am 1 of those children molested by a family member i went to my mother ,,she sided with the family member i had to stop the abuse myself at 10 ..This ellection isnt based on fact but rumors ? it worked with BUSH are people going to put there self interests aside and study the facts and make up there own minds on facts not fiction. ? When asked about his lies on the view? He acted like a child well he lies to ? sounds like a grade school playground. ? It was such a big deal last election by many KERRY'S houses . peop[le said i dont want to pay for securing all them but know its no big deal what will come out of our pocket ? Why if mrs. mccain drug abuse was done by mrs. obama hannity would have it airing hours and hours every day ?The games so caled adults play is unreal.

I think you should take a look at McCain's voting record before you state that he supports the military and seniors.McCain votes to fund the war yet votes against proper equipment for the troops, funding the VA hospital, the GI bill and programs that help military families. As for seniors he votes for cuts in medicare, programs that help them keep heat on in the winter and bills that go after senior predatory lenders yhatarget senoirs.

This whole piece shows that J. Alter is nothing more than a mouthpiece for Obama. His enumeration of Obama's accomplishments are nonsensical and shows that he is prone to exagerations and half truths. Some of the language used by Newsweek's in the stream of cover stories are oulandish. Statements like "redemption for his father sins" could apply to millions of fathers who ran off. You can just tell whose side these elitest reporters are on by all these hyperboles.

As an Alaskan, I am writing to give all of you some information on Sarah Palin, Senator McCain's choice for VP. As an Alaska voter, I know more than most of you about her and, frankly, I am horrified that he picked her. The most accurate description of her is red neck. Her husband works in the oil fields of Prudhoe Bay and races snow mobiles. She is a life time member of the NRA and has worked tirelessly to allow indiscriminate hunting of wildlife in Alaska, particularly wolves and bears. She has spent millions of Alaska state dollars on aerial hunting of these predators from helicopters and airplanes, dollars that should have been spent, for example, on Alaska's failing school system. We have the lowest rate of high school graduation in the country. Not all of you may think aerial predator hunting is so bad, but how anyone
(other than Alaska wolf-haters, of which there are many, most without teeth), could think this use of funds is appropriate is beyond me. If you want to know more about the aerial hunting travesty, let me know
and I will send some links to informative web sites. She has been a strong supporter of increased use of fossil fuels, yet the McCain campaign has the nerve to say she has "green" policies. The only thing green about Sarah Palin is her lack of experience. She has consistently supported drilling in ANWR, use of coal-burning power plants (as I write this, a new coal plant is being built in her home town of Wasilla), strip mining, and almost anything else that will unnecessarily exploit the diminishing resources of Alaska and destroy its environment.

Prior to her one year as governor of Alaska, she was mayor of Wasilla, a small red neck town outside Anchorage. The average maximum education level of parents of junior high school kids in Wasilla is 10th grade. Unfortunately, I have to go to Wasilla every week to get groceries and other supplies, so I have continual contact with the people who put Palin in office in the first place. I know what I'm talking about.
These people don't have a concept of the world around them or of the serious issues facing the US. Furthermore, they don't care. So long as they can go out and hunt their moose every fall, kill wolves and bears and drive their snow mobiles and ATVs through every corner of the wilderness, they're happy.

I wish I were exaggerating. Sarah Palin is currently involved in a political corruption scandal....

Thank you for writing. I'm afraid, however, that your informed presentation will be generally accepted by those who already hate Palin and generally ignored by those who love her. You Alaskans have created a monster and the rest of the country may have to live with her.

What I want to know is why journalists generally do not have the stones to report facts on this woman instead of just buying into the myth. The free press used to be considered the Fourth Estate -- an informal branch of government that keeps the other three branches honest. Cheney and company, however, has cowed the national press into behaving like a pack of lapdogs. They take the scraps offered by the powerful and lick the hands of their masters, hoping to be favored with an extra pet or a scratch behind the ears. It's a sorry bunch reporting the news these days.

Please forward this email to everybody you know including people outside the country and other newspaper. We need to educate the country about this.media. I live in Florida and in here they just passed last week the VOTER MATCHING LAW requiring people that uses two last names (mostly hispanics) to present and ID that shows both last names. This is another way of reducing the amount of minorities voting in November.

    • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 09/13/2008 10:21:53 PM

This is not accurate. First of all, the Florida legislature has not been in session since May and it does not reconvene until November. Florida has a part-time legislature and it does not sit year-round. There is no new legislation on voter ID. Secondly, there is a voter ID law on the books (not sure when it was enacted) and it has been challenged, but it still stands. Basically, a Floridian who wants to vote has to register with the same name used on the identification he or she submits with the voter registration package. If the voter uses two last names on a voter registration form, then he or she needs to make sure that the same two names are on the ID. The name on the registration form must be consistant with the name on the identification. IF the identification has only one last name, the voter needs to register with only one last name.

There are other cases where this can be a potential problem. My son rountinely uses only the shortened form of his first name and when I looked at his voter registration form, he had used his preferred name rather than his full legal name which appears on his driver's license. If I had not caught it, his registration would have been thrown out. The law impacts not only Hispanics, but also also a lot of southerners who often are known by nicknames rather than their given names. If potential voters try to register under the name they commonly use, rather than the name that is on their legal documents, they will probably not be able to vote.

Florida's law is better than many state requirements on ID, however. Indiana limits acceptable ID to driver's licenses and state ID cards, for example. Florida asks for a driver's license #, state ID # or the last four numbers on the Social Security card. Potential voters who do not have one of these documents can present any photo ID (even a buyer's club card, student ID, passport, etc). If they don't have a photo ID, they can submit a bank statement, utility bill or paycheck.or other government issued ID. This idenfitication should be taken to the polling place. If the voter does not have any ID at the polling place, he or she can submit a provisional ballot. Seniors, disabled people, military personnel and the dependents of military personnel do not need ID. So, in Florida, all voters who have any form of identification should be able to vote -- but again, it is important that the name on the registration form match the name on the ID. And, of course, any registered voter can request a mail-in ballot and skip all the requirments about bringing ID to the polling place. Mail-in ballots are verified by signature.

You left out one more thing about Obama:

Obama is a metrosexual eunuch. A gutless wonder. His pick of Biden as his running mate proved it beyond all doubt. When challenged by Russia's invasion of Georgia and McCain's strong response to that crisis, he retreated into a defensive position and chose the absolute safest, least controversial path.

McCain won my admiration with his daring gutsy move to pick Sarah Palin as his running mate. Daring, gutsy, imaginative, out-of-the-box thinking. When the going gets tough, McCain pushes the outside of the envelope, like the old fighter jock he is. Isn't that what we want in a leader?

As an old Star Trek fan, I see Obama as like Mr. Spock. In Star Trek, Mr. Spock was cool, logical, knowledgeable. But he didn't make the best starship captain. The swashbuckling Captain Kirk did. McCain is Captain Kirk. McCain is Captain Horatio Hornblower. McCain is every swashbuckling commander throughout history. The ones that make history.

The ones I respect and admire.

    • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 09/13/2008 9:30:08 PM

Captain Kirk womanized his way through the universe and died losing his ship. Not exactly the kind of person I want leading my son's world into the heart of the 21st Century. BTW, "metrosexual eunuch" would seem to be a contradiction in terms. In any case, the term does not fit Obama as you can see in the definition supplied by the author who coined the term, Mark Simpson:

Metrosexual man. the single young man with a high disposable income, living or working in the city (because that???s where all the best shops are), is perhaps the most promising consumer market of the decade. In the Eighties he was only to be found inside fashion magazines such as GQ, in television advertisements for Levis jeans or in gay bars. In the Nineties, he???s everywhere and he???s going shopping.

When Obama was young and single in the '80s he was making $12,000 a year working 16 hours a day as a community organizer. Sorry, no time -- and less money -- for shopping. And someone who eschews the glamour and monetary rewards of a high profile career and rolls up the sleeves of a worn shirt to help people in a community help themselves is EXACTLY the kind of person I want to lead this country, for me, my son and my grandchildren yet to be.

Like all Newsweek articles, this guy Jonathan Alter, is a supporter of Obama. Its amazing how there are NO longer any Journalists - those who write objetive stories - but only bad bloggers on Newsweek. They should rename Newsweek to "Spin of the Week - In support of Obama." Obama simply does not have experience to be President given his insults to ALL WOMEN, ALL SENIOR CITIZENS, ALL MILITARY, ALL REPUBLICANS. Obama hates half o the country. He has used hard drugs. He went to a univerisyt (Harvard) where the president hated women.

    • Posted By: PFflyerkid @ 09/13/2008 7:35:15 PM

Hey Trazer- You're really showing your shallowness on facts. McCain is on record as being against equal pay for equal work for woman. McCain talks a good game on the military but his voting record on taking care of vets is appaling- go ask one! And Rebuplicans...wow, even his own lot thinks he's unstable.

Obama is not lowering taxes. He is taxing those in the higher brackets more and giving this money in the form of a check to those who pay little or no income tax. This is called income redistribution and is socialism. The highest earners pay 80% of all taxes. These are the people who own businesses and what will happen if we tax them more? They will cut jobs. That is not what you do in an economic downturn. You give businesses incentives to create more jobs. Obama has it exactly backwards.

      • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 09/13/2008 9:01:28 PM

So --- how did that policy work out for you over the past 8 years? If the Bush economy suits you, you definitely should vote for McCain for more of the same.

    • Posted By: Old White Lady @ 09/13/2008 8:39:19 PM

McCain is a cynical,, woman hater. He has called his own wife a c---, and showed his deep disrespect for women by choosing a incredibly unprepared woman as a running mate. It's obvious that he thinks that any woman is as good as any other, especially if she's pretty. And how disgusting is the dirty old man when he can't keep his hands off her and his eyes off her butt. If he were sitting alone on a park bench, someone would call a cop. Oh, and the military? McCain has voted AGAINST veterans at least a dozen dtimes since 9-11.

  • Posted By: trazer @ 09/13/2008 7:12:42 PM

I really don't think Obama has any idea what change is. He says he will take away Bush's tax cuts - I am used to t he money I get on my pay check and Obama wants to take that away from me and my family. He then wants to raise it back to the Clinton age, where I paid more tax. He is then going to lessen that tax rate . If I do all the calculations correctly, he will be increasing the Tax rate on all Americans. Obama change is the Same old, Same Old - Tax and Spend and hate anyone who is not exactly like him. Shame on his major disception to the American public.

    • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 09/13/2008 9:00:11 PM

PS -- and as someone below mentioned, if you get health benefits from your employer, McCain will tax them at full value. So much for not raising your taxes

    • Posted By: Mimi13 @ 09/13/2008 8:58:56 PM

If you are earning more than $250,000 per year, you are exactly right. You will see less in your paycheck. But with an income of $250,000, you probably can afford it. If you made less than $250,000 a year, you will not see a tax increase. If you made less than $200,000 you will see a tax decrease. Bush pushed the bulk of the tax burden off on the middle class (proportionally). Obama will reverse that process. It's all very simple.

    • Posted By: olderwiser @ 09/13/2008 7:32:57 PM

If you are extra rich, then Obama is going to raise your taxes. If you are not very rich, then Obama is going to lower your taxes. The only flaw in your argument and mine, opposite though they may be, is that the president doesn't raise or lower taxes. Congress raises and lowers taxes. The vote needs to be smart, whether you are conservative or liberal. Whatever you do, please don't vote dumb. That is how we got into the mess that we are in now. Too many people voted dumb.

    • Posted By: PFflyerkid @ 09/13/2008 7:29:43 PM

A vote for McCain is against you own interest. BTW...Are you aware that McCains healthcare plan = taking $ out of your paycheck, shifting the cost from employer to employee? Go look it up...or, wait for the debates. Oh- taxes was the issue. Here's what Palin said & here's what people a lot smarter than her say:
PALIN: "The Democratic nominee for president supports plans to raise income taxes, raise payroll taxes, raise investment income taxes, raise the death tax, raise business taxes, and increase the tax burden on the American people by hundreds of billions of dollars."

THE FACTS: The Tax Policy Center, a think tank run jointly by the Brookings Institution and the Urban Institute, concluded that Obama's plan would increase after-tax income for middle-income taxpayers by about 5 percent by 2012, or nearly $2,200 annually. McCain's plan, which cuts taxes across all income levels, would raise after tax-income for middle-income taxpayers by 3 percent, the center concluded.

Obama would provide $80 billion in tax breaks, mainly for poor workers and the elderly, including tripling the Earned Income Tax Credit for minimum-wage workers and higher credits for larger families.

He also would raise income taxes, capital gains and dividend taxes on the wealthiest. He would raise payroll taxes on taxpayers with incomes above $250,000, and he would raise corporate taxes. Small businesses that make more than $250,000 a year would see taxes rise.

Excellent article! I am terrified about the possibility that the public will not be exposed to the negative impacts to education, health, world peace, and the earths environment a McCain/ Palin administration would bring. We don't have another 4 to 8 years to waste on these critical issues. We really need a foreign policy that is directed to peace, and the solution of global problems. Pigs and lipstick are not critical to the survival of man. Personalkind.

I am so much more terrified of what Nobama is capable of. You do realize that his name is Obamb HESSEIN and that he has ties to people and countries that are our enemies? Have you really checked him out or are you just buying what the press is cramming down everyone's throat.

Iraq wasn't our enemy until we invaded and occupied the country. Actually his middle name is Hussein. What press are you referring to:? Cause I'd sure rather read them.
