As an over 50, middle class woman, who has paved the way for women like Palin, I find her a disgrace to my own gender. She says that now women will be taken seriously, and that we can knock on any door and it opens (to that effect on her nomination speech). Please, can we say Hillary Clinton, Sandra Day O'Connor, Ruth Baden, Gloria Steinem. These were pioneers, not this loose cannon, Palin. I watch her speak, carry on, look at 30-something women thinking she has something to offer of substance and am amazed at how ignorant some women are. Do you REALLY want some obsessed/vicious/my-way-or-the-higway woman in charge of our country should the situation arise? I personally cannot even fathom that kind of lunacy. She has had her eye on this Presidency for many years according to friends, and like many men and women, will walk over, around, crush, anything or anyone who gets in her way. She isn't even in the same class as Hillary Clinton, and to refer to herself as some pioneer is really delusional. She is most definitely not the first governor in this country, mayor, or major political figure. God help us all if this one gets her hands on anything. Those 30-somethings will regret their decision.

Are the woman of this country so desperate that they will jump on the bandwagon without really looking at the record of the person. As far as I know the town that she elected her mayor had a population of 58,000. I live in a county in PA with over a million and no mayor. So what's the big deal. PA has 12 million or so residents and the State of Alaska has 630,000 residents. So what's the big deal, except Alaska gets a lot more money per cap. from the Federal Government. Oh that's taxpayer money.

      • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 09/15/2008 2:19:29 PM

I believe that Wasilla (?) has a population around 7,000 people not 58,000 or did you mean 5,800?. I always wonder how they come up with these numbers, are they including every person including children, people in the prison system, illegals, mentally challenged or infirm? None of these people can vote, so I wonder what the actual number of voters or voter age people are in this town.

    • Posted By: ihateeveryoneincludingyou @ 09/15/2008 12:06:06 AM

Right. She's not a pioneer. She's only the first female governor of her state and the first female Republican to make it to the VP slot. Whatever.....

      • Posted By: the_shelton @ 09/15/2008 12:27:04 AM

She is not the first female governor, Arizona and Kansas and a few others have beat her at that. And they are a fine bunch I might add. Those I could really get behind, but barbie is a bit much.

Palin IS the first governor of HER STATE (Alaska). What the blogger stated was correct.

        • Posted By: ihateeveryoneincludingyou @ 09/15/2008 12:52:05 AM

the_shelton, read the comment again. I said the first female governor OF HER STATE, not the first female governor in the nation! (BTW, Napolitano wasn't the first female governor of AZ. Rose Mofford was.)

      Hi lordmi,

I just checked out the site and it was great, all I have been hearing is how all the women in Alaska were rallying behind Palin. I find it interesting that the republicans tried to stop the march. Interesting but definitely NOT surprising.

      Thanks for the information

QUOTE for the Religious Zealots to Consider:

(Hopefully this language isn't too complicated, you may need to put down your bible and pick up a dictionary.)

"To suffer the civil magistrate to intrude his powers into the field of opinion and to restrain the profession or propagation of principles on supposition of their ill tendency is a dangerous fallacy which at once destroys all religious liberty, because he being of course judge of that tendency will make his opinions the rule of judgment and approve or condemn the sentiments of others only as they shall square with or differ from his own." Thomas Jefferson - from the Statute for Religious Freedom, 1779

And we think the Islamic Fundamentalists are our biggest problem....

Our founding fathers are spinning in their graves.

Great Post, I too am really really tired of the Church Nazis and the Religious Reich's power, which I totally do not understand, in this country's politics. it is their right to believe as they choose, but I really wish that they would keep their book burning/banning, no personal rights for women and their intolerance in their own community and stay out of politics. I do not need nor want them in my bedroom, my library or controlling what I watch on television or my rights as a human being.

These people hate everything and definitely everyone that does not look like them or believe as they do they are the SCARY AMERICANS!

    • Posted By: bdhotwheel @ 09/15/2008 2:16:13 AM

The Christians still outnumber other religions in this country, so don't expect an uprising from the Buddists, Muslims, and other religions in this country to change and take God out of everything our founding fathers did for us. Are you so ashamed of God that you would want it taken out of everything freedom stands for! He is the reason we have freedom, not religion. Get that straight before you plug your religious carnal views in here!

Hopefully our country will recognize that the upper class cares nothing for the rest of the country, and votes Democrat with Obama and Biden. To date the 8 years of GOP leadership has turned our surplus into a staggering deficit, shipped more jobs than ever offshore, improved the profits of the oil companies at the expense of the consumer, used tax money to conduct an unjust war while our infrastructure fails daily, caused uninsured or underinsured families to go bankrupt with a manageable health crisis if they could get care, pushed privitizing social security as Wall Street crumbles even today....well, hopefully you get the message....we need someone who cares about the majority in this country, not the elite. McCain and Palin haven't a clue how to manage this country...it would just be more Bush/Cheney and cronyism. McCain even is looking to Karl Rove for guidance...give me a break!!!

  • Posted By: chindognyc @ 09/15/2008 3:28:51 AM

It is so funny that the McCain supporters won't answer my question. Why is Sarah Palin's husband and son still a member of the AIP? Another question.... Why did Sarah Palin want rape victims to pay for their own rape kit when she was the mayor of Wasilla? I am still waiting for those answers! Hillary supporters can jump in on the second question.

    • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/15/2008 5:09:08 AM

Chin, The DNA kits and forensic examinations were ultimately paid for by the victims insurance company and/or Medicaid, whichever was applicable.

As for Todd, he was registered, but only attended a conference at one time (see below)
I don???t know of anything about their son being registered with the AIP.

      FYI:
It has been brought to our attention that there is a COUNTERFEIT SITE now up on the net. This site is a FRAUD and has infringed our copyright. We are presently seeking legal recourse.

      * Candidate GOVERNOR Sarah Palin was NEVER A MEMBER our party.

      * TODD Palin was registered as a MEMBER, BUT NEVER PARTICIPATED in any party activities aside from attending a convention in Wasilla at one time.

We had SEVERAL HUNDRED PEOPLE ATTEND THAT CONVENTION and NOTHING OF NOTEWORTHY STATUS TOOK PLACE outside of nominating the most conservative candidate up to that date to ever run for Governor of Alaska. That candidate was the sitting Lt. Governor, Jack Coghill. This man was one of the authors and signers of the Constitution of the State of Alaska.

Sharenews, I have posted what Palin said and she did want them to pay. She also keep saying that she told congress thanks but no thanks. Funny though, it was congress who stopped the Bridge to Nowhere, not Sarah Palin. And the AIP was started in 1970. They knew what the AIP was about. Sarah went to two conventions and spoke at one of those convention. You are backing a woman who does not have a woman's interest at heart. I am sorry to say, she thinks like a man. Why is McCain now sounding like Obama saying enough is enough. How much more can he copy.

      • Posted By: summer4077 @ 09/15/2008 10:26:00 AM

It doesn't change the fact that they wanted victims to pay for the kits. Also, what happened to the women who didn't have insurance but made too much for Medicaid? In my state, we have a fund to pay for things like that--the Victims of Violent Crimes funding.
Also, why would he be a member of the AIP? He didn't attend a meeting, but he was still a member. Why?

  • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 09/15/2008 12:13:15 PM

Here is another issue McCain-Palin will be avoiding. There will be a lot of detailed and technical opinions given explaining why America???s financial industry is in chaos but there really are only two reasons, simply greed and government neglect. Everything else is just a distraction from recognizing those two issues and to avoid laying the blame where it rightfully belongs. The run away greed by factions of the market, unchecked, uncontrolled and in fact encouraged by a government placating and patronizing Special Interests and a select few allowed this to happen and now the average American will pay the bill in so very many ways. The government???s responsibility is to protect the people yet our government focuses on allowing the market place to run free without adequate checks and balances, actually with encouragement for the full pursuit of their greed and with no concern for protecting the people???s interests. We have seen this occur several times with savings and loans, with banks, with hi-tech, now with investment banks and there have been other occasions, always the same, with the cycle of insatiable run away greed and then with government only acting after it is too late. The government rationalizes that they are facilitating free markets but in reality, as we have just seen again, they are being irresponsible for the benefit of a few and costing us greatly. We have an election coming and hopefully people will think of this when voting.

Comment: I had heard this also about Obama. Obama has no women in the top spots either on his campaign staff.
Can you say .... CHAUVINIST PIG? I gave him a pass on the "SWEETIE" comment several months back but I think I was very wrong when I gave him the benefit of the doubt on that one...I really do think that he looks down on women.

Not to be racist, but Obama shows characteristics of being more a chauvinistic muslim than a Christian. That is how I see it and if voters, especially women voters don't wake up, he will bring changes that you won't like.

    • Posted By: summer4077 @ 09/15/2008 10:38:57 AM

Lol are you serious? Are you off your meds? How can Obama be married to Michelle and be a chauvinistic pig? Do you know ANYTHING about his history with women? He was raised by a single mom that he adores, and his wife is probably more successful and hard-working than he is. He has two girls that he constantly praises and speaks hopefully about their futures. That notion is just absurd.

7 of the 9 Supreme Court Justices were appointed by Republican Presidents.
3 of the last 4 presidents were Republicans.
Until 2 years ago, both houses of Congress were Republican controlled.

If you feel our country will be better under Republicans, vote for McCain/Palin.
If you feel our country will be better under Democrats, vote for Obama/Biden.

I am white, middle class, 51 yrs old, and educated. As much as I would love to have a woman president or VP in the White House, I care more about my future and the future of my children, and grandchildren. I'm going to pick the most qualified individual. That's what women have been fighting for-choose the most qualified versus race or gender. Anyone with common sense can see Palin is just a smoke screen for McCain. She is NOT Qualified!! And McCain is a rendition of Bush!! LADIES.... WAKE UP! YOU ARE EMBARRASSING ME!! Hillary, I voted for because is was extremely qualified, but Palin is NOT! McCain/Palin scare the Hell out of me. The next best choice is Obama and Biden. They are honest, intelligent, level headed, and have national experience covering a plethora of National Issues including Foreign Policy. Obama and Biden compliment one another. In Fact, Biden is Chairman of the congressional Foreign Relations Committee. Believe me when I tell you, are nation and our Children are Doomed if McCain was in the White House, and You will only have yourselves to blame!
Ladies; Did you know that McCain Voted Against Equal Pay for Women ?!! Did you know he voted against a healthcare!! McCain HAS VOTED 90% of the time with BUSH!! HE SOLD HIS SOLE TO THE DEVIL.

Thank you minnieo8..I too supported Hillary in fact I work for her in PA.. Palin/McCain (notice the ticket) scare me. I happen to be a Christian for Obama/Biden. In the last election I voted against Bush and I was made to feel that I must not be a Christian if I voted that way. Well, there is only one way and I proved that I voted for the right party last time and I will be voting for the right party this time. God help us all!

Did you know that Obama pays his female staff LESS than his male staff? Did you know that McCain pays his female staff MORE than his male staff? This information is supplied by the Watch-Dog Group Legistorm.

Obama - women staff earn 83 cents for every $1 dollar of his male staff. Of his top-5 paid advisors, only 1 is a woman. Of his 20 Top Staffers, only 7 are women.

McCain - Women staff earn 21 cents MORE for every $1 dollar of his male staff. Of his top-5 paid advisors, 3 are women. Of his 20 Top Staffers, 13 are women.

There is a huge difference between talking the talk (Obama) and walking the walk (McCain).

      do your homework... .

Lynn, I heard of liars, but oh man you are a good liar. Try something new. Why don't you explain to me why would Sarah Palin charge rape victims a rape kit. I alredy showed my proof, now why don't you show yours.

        • Posted By: LynnPA @ 09/15/2008 1:28:35 AM

Insults are not necessary. I think you should do your homework and research the watch-dog site which reviews and lists many government staff paychecks, not just Obama & McCain. Do you know what it means to be a watch-dog site? Maybe that is where your confusion lies. To take fact and call it a lie does not make it a lie... by the way... don't foget to check with your HR rep at work regarding family leave and pay.... family leave is unpaid leave and always has been. I think you have a lot of research and homework to do before you respond.

I don't mind trying to point you to the right resources, but you have to make the effort. Go to your public library, talk to your HR person, ask a history teacher or someone who specializes in government policy... but don't guess.

I hate that Palin's nomination is essentially a publicity stunt and the focus has been stolen from the actual people that would be president- almost makes you wonder if they are pandering Palin even more given McCain's age... Just because there is a female nomine doesn't mean she should be voted for- I just hope there aren't too many STUPID AMERICAN WOMEN out there that vote for gender instead of policy

    • Posted By: summer4077 @ 09/15/2008 10:16:56 AM

Does that really surprise you? The Republicans didn't have much else to offer. I find it disgusting that McCain slammed Obama for not having experience, being a "rock star," and speaking of change--then taps this chicky with no experience and celeb qualities, and then they start spouting off about change! Slimy tactics, but not surprising from a man who has conducted a misleading, untruthful campaign.

  • Posted By: chindognyc @ 09/14/2008 9:47:30 PM

Obama was on Bill O'Reilly and he said, "why should you and I have it good and some waitress who lives off of tips can't get some type of help or some type of tax relief." O'Reilly said why should I give some of my wealth to people. They should try and work hard to become wealthy. Thats how the right think, and screw the poor.

    • Posted By: Ulan @ 09/15/2008 10:11:32 AM

Sometimes I think the real difference between Democrates and Republicans is greed. It's mine...I worked hard for it and I'm not willing to share. The poor often work harder and longer hours and receive less in wage. Look at the CNA's, that take care of your elderly sick, and those in hospitals. The guys that are now cutting the trees in Texas under the hot sun. Some are making 8.00 to 12.00 an hour and living in poor conditions. Do we really need to screw the poor.

I think Palin's nomination is a total joke- just because she happens to be female doesn't mean she should be elected. And it shouldn't be about her at all - it is and should be about McCain as he is the one who would be president and would probably just shut her up in a closet once elected anyways= her nomination is essentially a media stunt and I hate that all the stupid women in this country will vote for her on the SOLE basis of gender- grow a brain America!

  • Posted By: psychnurse @ 09/14/2008 1:04:17 PM

We shouldn't be surprised that Republicans have done a turn-a-bout and now support a woman with small children. After all the "party of family values" supports a bevy of adulterers, liars, pedophiles, illicit gay behaviors, and leaders with multiple marriages. The truth is that as long as a candidate adheres to the right-wing ideology, all flaws and indiscretions are overlooked.

    • Posted By: ihateeveryoneincludingyou @ 09/15/2008 9:55:08 AM

Having small children is a character flaw? Are you for real?

  • Posted By: LynnPA @ 09/14/2008 11:13:34 PM

    To the authors:

Before you make a comment, you would do well to do your homework. FYI, there are 4-Bush doctrines, if you can call them that. Officially there is nothing in writing... the information is primarily in speeches. Furthermore, Palin WAS CORRECT, she referenced the most recent of the 4-doctrines, whereas your Charles Gibson was two doctrines behind... HIS BAD !!

Finally, the bottom-line is, Palin, as the number 2 has far more experience than Obama as the number 1. And since everyone is concerned about presidential experience... the fault lies with Obama... talk about arrogance... he is far from ready and I find it an insult that anyone would equate leading this complicated country in a complex uncertain world to that of a community organizer... my children deserve a better future.

    • Posted By: the_shelton @ 09/15/2008 12:02:10 AM

I see another that doesn't know that Obama has more experience than Abe Lincoln did. You need to study your history a little better. As for Sarah, running a city that had no taxes, appointing a city manager because you were too busy and running a state that has less people than our county, doesn't make for spectacular experience.

      • Posted By: ihateeveryoneincludingyou @ 09/15/2008 9:47:17 AM

Obama also had more experience than Millard Fillmore probably did. And your point is exactly what????

      • Posted By: LynnPA @ 09/15/2008 12:08:37 AM

        • Posted By: the_shelton @ 09/15/2008 12:16:56 AM

Lincoln won by a slight margin, was considered to be not that great of a politician and really had no intention of freeing the slaves. He was forced into that in order to preserve the Union. The Emancipation Proclamation was an afterthought to the really pressing need to keep the Union whole. We almost lost the war due to the North's overly high thought that they had more force and power than the South. It wasn't until we were well into the war that Lincoln put forth the idea that slavery was what we were fighting for. It wasn't, it was as every industrial country has gone through in order to become industrial, it was a fight against rural agriculture and the urban industrial interests. It it hadn't been for the advanced railway system that the North had, they would have lost the war. There were far better generals in the South.

Goes to show... name calling and inferring that someone we do not know lacks education is belittling to both. I would have expected better. There was never a need to be insulting.

  • Posted By: bdhotwheel @ 09/15/2008 2:04:06 AM

Comment: God, you guys know nothing about politics. A present vote is used when you don't necessarily disagree with a bill, but you have questions concerning the language of the bill. The reason why he voted present the first time was because the language of the bill did NOT include proper verbage saying that it would not be used to undermine Roe v. Wade. The reason why he voted no the second time is because the language still wasn't there.

You guys should know how the law works simply by what happened in California with gay marriages.. If there is a line or phrase that isn't exact in it's definition, lawyers manipulate the verbage to pursue an alternate agenda. Voting for that bill without the proper verbage would have been sheer negligence on Obama's part, and he once again showed the right judgement in voting present the first time, and voting no the second time (when the verbage wasn't altered).

That's like pleading no contest in court. Come on, this guy wants to sit on the fence instead of making a decision and sticking to his guns. The leaders in the world will laugh at this guy and how many mistakes are we willing to give this guy as President. Obama does not have foreign relation experience which is something that the President, and not necessarily the Vice President needs to have.

    • Posted By: OldPlusNew @ 09/15/2008 2:20:48 AM

That's not like pleading no contest in court. In fact, that has no resemblance in the slightest. You plead no contest in court when you want to take the responsiblity of a guilty plea without actually saying it. This is done for record purposes, and is usually offered in a plea bargain. A present vote is used to ensure that proper verbage is added to a bill that may be great on the outside, but has issues within. We're not using crayons here to write up these laws, my friend. A politician represents the people who elected him. You have to ensure that those people are protected by EVERY bill you pass. Failure to acknowledge inadequate verbage in a bill is gross neglegance on the part of any senator, Republican or Democrat. Please think about the state of our nation with the current president before you ridicule Obama for this vote. President Bush has shown the greatest lack of respect for our constitution and our laws, with the Republican Party backing him the entire way. I'm glad to know that we have a person running for president that actually reads the fine print of every legislative act BEFORE saying 'Yey' or 'Ney' to it.

      • Posted By: ihateeveryoneincludingyou @ 09/15/2008 9:41:05 AM

Please. You don't know anything about IL politics, where voting "present" is the chicken version of voting no. And.....he did vote no. CNN has the proof:
