    Beware the tactics of the crazed religious right. They are sheep in wolves clothing. False prophets. Prophetizing gloom and rapture and "LEFT BEHIND" theories. They are determined to overthrough this election by any means neccessary. It's the latest modern crusade!

    The Republican Party is no longer the party of conservation and conservativism.

      You are correct, Whether you are speaking about the far right or the extreme left (obama), America will always be in danger if either of these two take control of Washington.

      If you know anything about the bell curve, most Americans fall in the middle and have no use for extreme philosophy (obama). Obama has stated many times that he will be loyal to his extreme left supporters, that is of great concern to many who may have supported a Dem for President.

    Here is an AUTHENTIC issue for EVERY FEMALE VOTER:

    Do you have or plan to have a child or grandchild attending an American public school?

    As a public high school teacher, the current state of our public institutions reflect our values as a society, from my point of view. We are bailing out failing private financial institutions with taxpayer dollars while the state of our public school system continues to decline. Consider the following comparison of our institutions: private sector financial powerhouses vs. our public school system.

    Good teachers are being laid off and class sizes are growing. No child left behind is a law requiring outcomes without providing any funding. Our schools are labeled as "failing schools" from unrealistic goals from unfunded mandates by the federal government. What is left in a public school is often a stressed out skeleton staff that does not have the ability to properly educate our students.

    Meanwhile, corporate lobbyists effectively secure deregulation and what they consider "optimal" conditions for their financial success (deregulation). And a few well-connected people have lined their pockets with enormous amounts of other peoples' money. John McCain has been involved with deregulation and taking money from these lobbyists for years and years and years!

    Enough is enough.

    Middle and lower class young people (the MAJORITY) of our future do not have the money or the resources to hire corporate lobbyists. Their teachers and their schools have limited resources. Where are the organized efforts to actually support the reform to advance our public schools into the 21st century and educate and prepare our future?

    In every other developed and developing country we compare our students' progress with, there are dedicated effort to improve, fund, and prioritize education. In America, we are starving our schools while bailing out reckless fat cats who've thrived on greed. Is this the American Way? Or have we lost our way?

    Imagine where we might be in ten years if only a FRACTION of the billions our federal government has spent on the Iraq war and corporate welfare bailouts were actually INVESTED in making our public schools the most advanced in the world. THAT IS INVESTMENT. We will be "paid back" with our BEST capital resource: Highly Educated American Workers.

    sportlock, this is becoming comical. you completely mirror your candidates method of arguing, which is nothing more than attacks, name-calling, and completely unsubstantiated points. MAKE A VALID COMMENT ABOUT THE ISSUES! the terms "baby killer" and "f*ck your siblings" are not valid points, its eye-catching and sensationalistic language that deflects attention from the real issue, which is the fact that mccain has no plan for bettering this country. its pointless to argue with people who don't know what they're talking about. i guess ignorance is bliss, right? i suppose you think the fundamentals of our economy are strong, too, right? i encourage you to do a little research instead of just reading the headlines and listening to mccain and palin's pep rallies. it'll make you a much more informed voter.

    • Posted By: jimbo3800 @ 09/20/2008 2:13:26 PM

      Sportlock made excellent points, you are simply too biased & brainwashed to comprehend them. I suspect that you are able to instantly understand anything that the Daily Kos, moveon.org, or the DNC feeds you. I suspect the problem is one of a closed mind.

      And let me just take the most controversial one straight on; aborting a baby = killing a baby, no matter how you and the other brainwashed 'reproductive rights' crowd try and spin it.

      • Posted By: jjshooter2000 @ 09/20/2008 2:37:21 PM

        i read and re-read her comments. and i stil don't see any point that is backed up by fact. its basically a long-winded way of saying, "obama sucks." thats fine if you think he sucks, but if you could make a decent (and fact-based) argument against him, or at least FOR mccain, that would be a step in the right direction. this is obviously very hard for mccain supporters since every single political argument i get into with them, they offer nothing but name calling and vague statements. oh, and lies, too. its pretty scary that people like that are actually voting. like i said before - a little research goes a long way. i suppose you voted for bush, too right? we can all see how that worked out.

        • Posted By: LynnPA @ 09/20/2008 7:00:49 PM

          I do not agree with the original way this argument was presented but since you asked:

          There is much controversy over when life begins. This is not a done deal. If one understands science and human development, one would know:

          1. Neurogenesis shows brain activity at about 6 weeks. This is also about the time the human heart begins to beat (independent of the mother) and blood flow begins. This is why the subject is such a heated debate... it is not necessarily a religious belief... these are facts that can be found in any Embryology book or class.

          In the healthcare system we declare a person deceased when there is no brain activity and no heart beat. Therefore, if no brain or heart activity means 'no life', then the presence of brain and heart activity would mean there 'is life'. You will note that no where in this explanation did you see any mention of a religious belief. It is all based on Embryology 101. Hence, Not every anti-abortion person is Catholic... some make their decision based on their scientific training.

          There are many doctors and nurses, those who receive no financial gain from this practice, who do not argee with abortion for this reason. It has nothing to do with religion. We are all from different backgrounds, religions, and beliefs, but we do have science and medicine in common. (You will notice I used the word 'many', not 'all'). That should help you understand just how controversial this is.

    Excerpt:

    The people of the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA are (ALREADY) THE WORLDS GREATEST CHARITABLE GIVERS. As it stands, our government weighs in similarly compared to the governments of other developed nations. Still, those who make such generosity possible . . . the WORKING AMERICANS . . . find themselves with nowhere to turn when they run into difficulty. This columnist would rather see the #MORTGAGES of every American family currently under threat of foreclosure brought current before one more ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT is given free medical care, one more fiscally irresponsible corporation is bailed out, or one more dollar falls into the hands of a Third World despot.

    Remember OIL FOR FOOD S. 2433 is a proposed massive money grab being sold on the basis of FALSE COMPASSION and UNWARRANTED GUILT . . . nothing more. The GLOBAL POVERTY ACT would represent FURTHER CONFISCATORY TAXATION of the American people in order TO PROVIDE BILLIONS in circumlocutory appeasement for THIRD WORLD GOVERNMENTS, with the obligatory administrative LOST MILLIONS appropriated by corrupt dictators, lawmakers, consultants and United Nations bandits. . . . and BARACK OBAMA knows it!

    Caraprado gives her one sided completely biased stance.

    NOW THE OTHER SIDE>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

    1. Obama wants women to have the right too KILL an INNOCENT child, merely because they are a incovenience.

    Palin believes you shouldn't f*ck your family members and in stiffer penalties for rape.

    2. How does this affect womens rights as you stated above? Just filling in blanks or telling lies?

    3. Again, how does this affect the rights of woman? And why does this bother you? What are you afraid of?

    Obama wants to do your parenting for you by teaching your 5 yr old about sex ed. No thx Obama, I will explain to my children what is acceptable and what isn't.

    4. Global warming man made? The earth has ran this cycle many times before man was here. How did man create it in the past? BTW check and see how much pollution comes out of a active volcano versus man made emissions.

    5. Go have sex with an AIDS infected person but use a condom. No? Why not? lol
    Yup, as you know, GOVERNOR Palin has a pregnant 17yr old daughter. I guess she really is just like the rest of America huh? Anyone else know someone who has had a child at 17 or younger or is Palin's daughter really not that odd?

    6. Give me a break, now Obama has experience? When did that happen, over primary season? lol

    7. Investigations? Where are the investigations on Obama anyway? This guy has shadier friends then a mafia capo. But I guess you don't care for that info do you?
    BTW, Is an investigation a finding of guilt of any kind? NO!!!!!!!

    8. You mean to tell me you have no problem with Obama seeing dead people, 57 states, 100's of gaffes. But you have a problem with a GOVERNOR not knowing what a VP does before she is asked to be one? lol Very weak

    9. 1 word..........Teleprompter!!!!!!!! And you thought Obama refused a town hall meeting because McCain suggested it LMAO The man is scared to death of an unscripted question. You can go to youtube if you would like to see Obama without his teleprompter. Retoric is very difficult when asked HOW?

    10. Obama was for race based Affirmative Action before he was AGAINST it. Or running for office, you decide..
    Obama was against reperations also....He said it wasn't ENOUGH!!!!!!!

    Bonus.............. Love to see a E-mail from Rev Wright, Kwame,Farrakkkhan,Rezko,and the rest of his band of racist theives. Funny how you feel the need to see private government e-mails from one and not the other isn't it?

    Conclusion..............Complete hypocrite who's had too much kool aide. Consider critical thinking. BOTH WAYS

    • Posted By: jjshooter2000 @ 09/20/2008 1:19:26 PM

      wow. do you realize that you just wrote an entire page defending your candidate and didn't make even 1 valid point that is backed up by fact? its funny how the mccain-palin campaign has rubbed off on their supporters. they make nothing but generalized, sensationalist statements that hold absolutely no water. if you're going to vote for someone, at least know why YOU are voting for them. and just because someone told you something isn't really a good reason to vote. we're talking about the president of the united states here, not high school prom king (or queen).

          A Democrat speaking on common sense? LOL Bein that you so easily dismiss any wrong doins by Obama. His flip flops, gaffes, friends, wifes raise, Farrakkkhan, Rev Wright, Ayres, Rezko, etc etc. But yet scrap the bottom of the barrell for dirt on his opponants? Seems coomon sense would say to the thinking man/woman, hold your candidate to the same standards you expect from his opponant, otherwise, you are a hypocrite. BTW Did Obama change his mind on Oil drilling after he saw it was the popular choice? Common sense should have poked you in the eye when he flip flopped on that one shouldn't it?

      • Posted By: SPORTLOCK09 @ 09/20/2008 1:45:56 PM

        My point was made very well. And I'm not surprised a DIM light bulb couldn't pick up on it.
        1. Not everyone shares Obama's kill the babies theory.
        2. Her first statement was Palin would hurt womens rights. Only one of her post even concerned womens rights. Thats if you f*ck your siblings. I understand how this effects you personally.
        3. Half of her post applied to Obama and she nor you realize it.
        4. Proved how biased and hypocritical she was by pointing out the lack of questioning Obama and his 22 closets full of skeletons.

    its great that women have found a strong and successful woman to look up to. but voting for someone on the basis of gender is just as irresponsible and ignorant as voting for someone on the basis of race. i urge these women who are being swayed by palin to do a little research and see what her stand on the real issues are. women really need to decide whether they are voting for a woman or for someone who is going to make our country a better place to live. there's a lot more to being in charge of the most powerful nation in the world than whether someone looks like you. because once a president is elected, you, along with every other american, is going to have to sleep in the bed they made (see: George W. Bush).

    • Posted By: sharenews @ 09/20/2008 11:53:29 AM

      Gender is the last reason I am voting the McCain/Palin ticket. McCain was smart in his pick cuz Governor Palin is not only smart, people can relate to her, and feel confident that she will be a mover and a shaker in the White House to get things done. And, hey, by the way, did I mention she was a woman too?

      • Posted By: Independant Voter @ 09/20/2008 12:17:14 PM

        You seem to be a week behind in the news - most people do not "relate" to Gov. Palin - who as Mayor made Wasilla's rape victims pay for their rape kits, who wants to force women who are victims of rape or incest to have no choice, who abuses her power as governor to bully and fire people she does not like. Pretty crappy values to identify with - but fortunately you and Palin are in the minority.

        • Posted By: SPORTLOCK09 @ 09/20/2008 1:09:34 PM

          You seem to be years behind in common sense. Do you really believe Governors and SENATORS don't use their influences for their benefit? LMAO How naive can you be.

          So tell me again, HOW MUCH OF A RAISE DID OBAMAS WIFE GET AFTER HE WAS ELECTED INTO THE SENATE? YOU THOUGHT IT WAS JUST A COINCIDENTAL HUH? lmao

          I'D IMAGINE YOU THOUGHT REZKO HELPED OUT WITH OBAMAS PROPERTY BEFORE HE WAS A SENATOR TOO HUH?

    Obama and The Palin Effect From: Deepak Chopra | Posted: Friday, September 5th, 2008

    Sometimes politics has the uncanny effect of mirroring the national psyche even when nobody intended to do that. This is perfectly illustrated by the rousing effect that Gov. Sarah Palin had on the Republican convention in Minneapolis this week. On the surface, she outdoes former Vice President Dan Quayle as an unlikely choice, given her negligent parochial expertise in the complex affairs of governing. Her state of Alaska has less than 700,000 residents, which reduces the job of governor to the scale of running one-tenth of New York City . By comparison, Rudy Giuliani is a towering international figure.

    Palin's pluck has been admired, and her forthrightness, but her real appeal goes deeper.She is the reverse of Barack Obama, in essence his shadow, deriding his idealism and exhorting people to obey their worst impulses. In psychological terms the shadow is that part of the psyche that hides out of sight, countering our aspirations, virtue, and vision with qualities we are ashamed to face: anger, fear, revenge, violence, selfishness, and suspicion of 'the other.' For millions of Americans, Obama triggers those feelings, but they don't want to express them. He is calling for us to reach for our higher selves, and frankly, that stirs up hidden reactions of an unsavory kind. (Just to be perfectly clear, I am not making a verbal play out of the fact that Sen. Obama is black. The shadow is a metaphor widely in use before his arrival on the scene.)

    I recognize that psychological analysis of politics is usually not welcome by the public, but I believe such a perspective can be helpful here to understand Palin's message. In her acceptance speech Gov. Palin sent a rousing call to those who want to celebrate their resistance to change and a higher vision.Look at what she stands for:

      (Continued)

      --Small town values -- a denial of America 's global role, a return to petty, small-minded parochialism.
      --Ignorance of world affairs -- a repudiation of the need to repair America 's image abroad.
      --Family values -- a code for walling out anybody who makes a claim for social justice. Such strangers, being outside the family, don't need to be heeded.
      --Rigid stands on guns and abortion -- a scornful repudiation that these issues can be negotiated with those who disagree.
      --Patriotism -- the usual fallback in a failed war.
      --'Reform' -- an italicized term, since in addition to cleaning out corruption and excessive spending, one also throws out anyone who doesn't fit your ideology.

      Palin reinforces the overall message of the reactionary right, which has been in play since 1980, that social justice is liberal-radical, that minorities and immigrants, being different from 'us' pure American types, can be ignored, that progressivism takes too much effort and globalism is a foreign threat. The radical right marches under the banners of 'I'm all right, Jack,' and 'Why change? Everything's OK as it is.' The irony, of course, is that Gov. Palin is a woman and a reactionary at the same time. She can add mom to apple pie on her resume, while blithely reversing forty years of feminist progress. The irony is superficial; there are millions of women who stand on the side of conservatism, however obviously they are voting against their own good.

      The Republicans have won multiple national elections by raising shadow issues based on fear, rejection, hostility to change, and narrow-mindedness.Obama's call for higher ideals in politics can't be seen in a vacuum. The shadow is real; it was bound to respond. Not just conservatives possess a shadow -- we all do. So what comes next is a contest between the two forces of progress and inertia. Will the shadow win again, or has its furtive appeal become exhausted? No one can predict.

      The best thing about Gov. Palin is that she brought this conflict to light, which makes the upcoming debate honest. It would be a shame to elect another Reagan, whose smiling persona was a stalking horse for the reactionary forces that have brought us to the demoralized state we are in. We deserve to see what we are getting, without disguise.

    McCain ??? Palin and The Oil Industry
    In 2006 , Bp Alaska, Exxon Mobile, Chevron and Conoco Phillips gave over 1.7 Million dollars to AK First Org. Inc. and to Alaska Oil and Gas Association to repeal Measure 2 of the Alaska Constitution. They succeeded with the help of Palin. By spreading the wealth their 1.7 Million dollar Investment created a windfall of profits only rivaled by Mr. Buffet himself.

    With Palin???s help and under the watchful eye of the Bush. Cheney and Mc Cain administration the Oil Emirates will also receive credits against future taxation worth even more billions of dollars. It appears that Palin and the Bush administration are paying the oil companies back all the taxes they have paid since the inception of Measure 2.

    What do we know about Palin? Not much according to the Media. We do know Governor Palin is the Public Member for the Alaska Oil and Natural Gas Conservation Commission. What you should know is that the mission of Alaska Oil and Natural Gas Conservation Commission is to work hand in hand with the oil industry to help maximize production, improve resource recovery and to reduce the rights of land owners through its correlative rights mandate. They are task with overseeing the disposal of all toxic waste produced by companies such as Alaska Oil, Chevron, Exxon and BP Alaska.

    According to the ??? Inlet Keeper??? these companies are ???legally??? pumping 2 Billion Gallons of toxic waste into the fisheries of Cook Inlet annually. Governor Pain is one of three controlling members of this group comprised of One Geologist, One Petroleum Engineer and one public member, ie Palin.

    Wow! its no wonder they picked her for VP. The media chooses to ignore or not care about these facts. Just as with the mis-information they brought us with Iraq they have again been bought and paid for by special interest. Yes afraid of going against the powerful political machine of the Bush administrative and detrimental to the public of the United States and rest of the world; our news media is again not reporting the facts! Surprised; no I???m not but you should be!

    The oil companies are once again putting their own candidate into office. They are selling us a Miss America candidate with her cute little smile in a business suit. A candidate who is in charge of and has been responsible for saving oil companies billions by letting them pump two billion gallons of toxic waste into the Cook Inlet and Ice Fields of Alaska annually . You wonder why the Ice is melting maybe it???s the Billions of Gallons of toxic waste compliments of our own greed and unwillingness to reduce our dependence on oil!

    Vote for Real Change vote against the Emirates of Alaska and their Palin Pawn, the Mavericks and Cowboys of Arizona, Texas and beyond!

    Vote Obama! Make history Make a Difference!

      From your screen name, it's obvious that you are not serious with regard to viable options to alleviate the energy crisis!

      Sarah Palin knows the oil industry, and realizes that is part of the solution to achieve energy self-sufficiency.

    great arguments newswkdickg, that is how you make a point! to piggyback on that, contrary to what the republicans are saying, obama does not want to raise everyone's taxes. in fact, he wants to lower taxes for people who make less than $250,000, which make up about 95% of the population. he also wants to lower taxes for small businesses. also, everyone thinks his health care plan will raise taxes - wrong. his health care plan lowers the costs of health care for workers AND businesses. this will make health care affordable to everyone, not just people who have good jobs for businesses that make a lot of money. his health care plan also creates jobs by lowering the costs for businesses so that they can hire more people to work. yes, under his administration, the government will get bigger. but considering that all the money in our country is tied up in 5% of the population, which is the same people who control all the big businesses, how is that bad? because it takes a little bit of money out of their pockets and distributes it to a few more people - people who really need it? anybody who thinks our economy has strong fundamentals is far away from the real america. the america where people have to go to work everyday and have to look at their paycheck and their bills and have to budget to keep a roof over their families heads. someone with 7 houses who says that our economy has strong fundamentals is a far cry from that, and if you don't realize that then you must be just like mccain.

    Who saw the Palin/McCain speech, I believe it was yesterday or Wednesday? A woman asked Palin to state some specifics about what she would do to assist women with their economic problems (Paraphrasing)

    Palin replied that she was a product of a Title 9 education which advocates equal opportunity for girls to play sports. John McCain chimed in that she played defense or something equally stupid.

    My point is Palin was asked a serious question and this is the type of answer that she gave and she did not go back and answer this woman's question. This is who some of you want to be President of the U.S.

    I will look for an article regarding this speech.

    A WHAT Administration? A WHO Administration?

    Uh-oh.

    Gov. Sarah Palin is now talking about "a Palin and McCain administration."

      Well, yeah, this whole election is about Sarah..she is hoping John McCain won't be able to govern. I feel sorry for McCain, he is a nice man.. too bad he became embroiled with her. I doubt she was his idea... it was his camp advisors.

      Hello Seej, good to read you!

        Do you have any facts (I realize that facts do confuse you) to substantiate your delusion that Sarah Palin "is hoping John McCain won't be able to govern"?

      • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 09/19/2008 1:45:04 PM

        I do not feel sorry for him at all he picked her. McCain is not aging well and there is a serious possibility that Palin and "Her First Dude" could quickly become the first family.

        Levi "The F...ng Redneck" roaming the White House! Nice visual

          Did he really make the decision to pick her? Seej, not to worry, McCain will not win. The economy is such a mess and there are too many Reg. Dems.. they will not give this election away to the Reps this time.

            Pia, be really careful with predictions (that's why I don't make any). Based on domestic and world conditions in 2004 I didn't think there was a way in the world Bush could have gotten re-elected, and he did. There is a perception (right or wrong) that Obama is arrogant, and predicting his victory feeds into that perception

    OFF TOPIC!
    Florida to close Foley investigation, sources say
    CNN) -- The Florida Department of Law Enforcement will close a criminal investigation into former U.S. Rep. Mark Foley on Friday without filing charges, two law enforcement sources said Thursday.
    Authorities were investigating whether Foley might have used computers in Florida to engage or solicit minors in any illegal activities.
    The Republican, who represented Florida's 16th District in Congress, resigned in September 2006 after suggestive e-mails and instant messages he had written to teenage House pages surfaced in the media.

    So Foley can now join the elustrious group of Bush, Cheney, Libby, Rice and Palin I am sure that I missed others . By the way I am sure that they will soon drop all charges against Stevens.

    Republican Politicians and Illegal Immigrants ???THE CHOSEN PEOPLE, U.S. LAWS ARE FOR EVERYONE ELSE???!

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/19/2008 2:48:57 PM

      Foley is a disgusting pig. With the exception of Libby, however, none of the others were convicted of a crime

      • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 09/19/2008 3:39:56 PM

        My point was that they all seem to have immunity, they have all been accused of a, what I consider crimininal behavior but either they are charged and it just goes away or they are accused and never charged. Both scenarios are equally desturbing to me.

        Bush should have been impeached as soon as it was discovered that he and his boys lied about the war, but the Washington Powers both Republican (not all ) and Democrats (mainly Peloso and others) won't even discuss it.

          What facts do you have to prove that your President, George W. Bush, lied about the war?

        • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/19/2008 5:03:02 PM

          Pelosi is horrible. She bullied the superdelegates into supporting Obama.

          • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 09/19/2008 5:36:52 PM

            If that is true then they are weak and should not be superdelegates. But do you really believe that Pelosi was able to bully ALL of them into voting against their concience?

            • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/19/2008 6:11:42 PM

              The problem is, many did not vote their conscious. They were bullied into voting for whomever had the most pledged delegates, which is not the reason they are superdelegates. Dean, Pelosi, Reed, and party elites did everything possible to bully superdelegates into selecting Obama

      The Florida Department of Law Enforcement dropped the charges because it did not have factual evidence to support the charges. That's the way justice is conducted in the US.

      Now if you have any valid facts to support the charges, do your duty as a US citizen and supply your evidence to the authorities, instead of casting unsupported assertions.

        Hi News,

        I knew that I could not remember them all. My point is if you and I are held accountable to the laws of the land why don't these people. This is not at all fair and I do not understand how Plain, Bush, Cheney etc can just decide not to cooperate and get away with doing so.

        • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/19/2008 5:02:00 PM

          Has Palin committed a crime? If the US court system doesn't judge Bush and Cheney, then history will, and that judgment will be much more harsh

          • Posted By: sjpersonal @ 09/19/2008 5:35:22 PM

            What I mean about Palin is why does she and her husband and her state employees have the right to totally disregard a government investigation, if there were no wrong doings then cooperate and get it over with. Trying to cover it up looks so much worse and that is for anyone. Karl Rove did the same thing I believe, there was a supeona that he decided not to acknowlege.

            it seems that some people in this country are put above the law and that is wrong.

    Todd Palin: 'first dude' or 'shadow governor?'

    He's worked in Alaska's oil industry and as a fisherman. But in recent times, he's had another role. Some call him the "Shadow Governor."

    In government circles and among the family's acquaintances, Todd Palin is known as his wife's greatest adviser and most loyal protector. One family friend said, "Todd is incredibly supportive and is willing to do whatever it takes to help Sarah."

    Todd may appear quiet, almost shy, but he's made quite an impression on his wife's running mate, Sen. John McCain. On the campaign trail this month in Lancaster, Pennsylvania, McCain said, "He's not afraid of Washington, D.C.! He can take them on!"

    **NOTE THE LAST COMMENT BY MCCAIN "HE CAN TAKE THEM ON" I WASN'T AWARE THAT TODD PALIN WAS RUNNING FOR OFFICE!

    Conyers Calls Out McCain Over Voter Suppression

    House Judiciary Committee Chairman John Conyers (D-MI) responded Friday to recent media reports on the plans of the Macomb County Republican Party Chairman and others to use lists of residents of foreclosed homes to block their participation at the ballot box -- a voter suppression tactic called by some a form of "vote caging." Conyers called on John McCain to direct his supporters to stop the practice. The letter:

    "The Republican Party has had a long record of blocking eligible voters from voting. In the past two Presidential elections, the country witnessed appalling efforts to limit voter participation in Ohio, Florida and throughout the country. It is beyond disgraceful that the Republican Party now seems to be targeting those who are suffering the most. It appears that individuals who can't recall how many houses they own don't understand how awful it is to lose your home to foreclosure, and don't know that you don't need to own property to vote in the United States of America. It should surprise no one that the people who gave us the worst economy since the Great Depression would now want to prevent those victimized by this economy from voting in the coming elections. Senator McCain needs to step forward now and halt the Republican Party's efforts to profit politically from the economic misery of others."

      Would you explain how Republicans could use lists of residents of foreclosed homes to deny them the right to vote, especially if, as you say, ???you don't need to own property to vote in the United States of America????

  • Posted By: NewsWkDickG @ 09/20/2008 2:16:38 PM

    Senator McCain???s history has shown us a cornucopia of flip-flops, much of which he calls being a ???Maverick??? but which have actually always been just trying to adjust for advantage. As seen before and after the Keating scandal, before and after running for president in 2000, before and after having his legs cut out from under him (which he claimed was the result of Bush???s dirty politics), before and after committing his strong support to Bush in 2004, and now before and after running for president again and then throughout this current campaign relating to most everything and so vividly in the current financial crisis. For the moment put aside Sarah Palin???s incompetence and gross dishonesty and just ask how can someone, John McCain, who is so out of touch and willing to change so frequently, at a moments notice, ever be trusted to resolve the problems, many of which were caused by the policies he so strongly supported? First he has been a strong advocate of deregulation and now he says more regulation is absolutely necessary. Then he was against any bailouts and within one day switched to say they were really needed now. He was strongly committed to continuing with the Bush-Cheney policies and now says that he and Palin are agents of change. He has always supported tax cuts for the wealthy and open markets favoring Special Interests and a select few and just today he is calling for stimulating the economy and addressing the problems by providing the needed support and protection for the middle class, who he has simply neglected in the past and instead had inferred benefit would ???trickle down??? (what ???trickled down??? was the costs as the big money got bailed out). He offers to appoint a commission and faults Obama for wanting to take the time to determine more aggressive and direct action. What he says, he quickly retracts or simply offers to explain what he really meant. Just a week ago he was so strongly touting that the economy had strong fundamentals, inferring it was ready to recover, and then changed that to mean he had faith in the American worker, as if they could turn things around on their own. The truth is he doesn???t have a clue, talks without thinking, changes after consulting with others, often just copies what Obama says and, as Joe Biden put it; he is completely out of touch. He really just wants badly to be president before he retires and then desperately chose Sarah because he thought she would be aggressive and flashy when campaigning but what of anything does any of that do for the American people?

    10 Ways in Which, For Women, Sarah Palin Is *Exactly* Like George W. Bush

    1) Like Bush, she is completely against a woman's right to choose (in fact, she exceeds Bush in that she is against a woman's right to choose even in cases of rape or incest;

    2) Like Bush, she opposes stem cell research to prevent fatal diseases in men, women and children;

    3) Like Bush, supports the teaching of Creationism alongside Evolution in public schools;

    4) Like Bush, does not believe that Global Warming is man made;

    5) Like Bush, has supported abstinence-only sex education methods that have proven ineffective;

    6) Like Bush, has virtually no foreign policy experience prior to running for national office--(in Palin's case, despite a 72-year old, chronically ill running mate)

    7) Like Bush, has engaged in conduct that has resulted in current government investigation of her actions;

    8) Like Bush, has made statements which indicate lack of knowledge of basic elements of the office they are running for (Palin, July 2008: "What exactly does the Vice President do everyday?");

    9) Like Bush, has been sequestered to prevent her being asked questions that she has not yet been prepared to answer;

    10) Like Bush, talks like a reformer--yet in her actions (i.e., relying on lobbying, supporting the Bridge to Nowhere before she was against it) acts in the most typical, all-too-familiar fashion.

    BONUS: Like Bush, secretive--and withholds govt. emails!
