Genderism began long ago. As soon as life came to a point of development where it took two of a species to reproduce instead of the primitive and asexual division of cells, then genderism began. One of the genders began to dominate, and along with domination came a form of discrimination called genderism.
In today's political world, the male gender has dominated the political arena for a great number of years. However, the female gender has been gaining strength in very recent times. Soon, the female gender will dominate our politics. Once the female dominates politics and attains the power of the nation, then the female gender will discriminate against the male gender, replacing males in positions of power with female functionaries.
We will start with the great and powerful, intelligent and wise, experienced and able Sarah Palin. She will soon replace the aged and worn out warrior who got her finally into the place where she belongs, as his brain slowly freezes up and he can't remember where he is when the red phone rings at 2 A.M. Sarah will then be our strong and capable leader through the world's strife and straighten all the crooked things out as her male predecessors should have done decades ago. Genderism can finally leak piecemeal into the sewer where it should have gone long ago. It will be a wonderful world.

There used to be more females in the population than males. I haven't seen the figures in recent decades, but would guess that it is still the same. Given the truth of that, then it seems like females would win all of the races where they are in the majority. We vote our interests. If you are a female and want a female in office, then vote for her. This is also consistent with the desire in recent years that seems to have cropped up to have a lot of God in government. Some would say that God decides how many of each gender will be born, so why not cooperate with HER in those female majority years and give us females in office and then cooperate with HIM in the years when males are prevalent. Then, when things go wrong in government, we can blame all of it on the One who is really responsible. Also, when things go well, we can give God the credit. This is a good plan. Don't knock it.

Really. If there are more women than there are men, then why did so many women let Hillary down? Women could have voted her in by sheer superiority of numbers. That was a complicated genderist act of too many women against a woman candidate and too few for her. I would cuss the women who let her down before I started on the boys.

      • Posted By: cowen123456 @ 09/16/2008 12:09:48 AM

Excuse me, i'm a conservative woman who crossed party to vote for Hillary because she inspired me and I believe Hillary won the popular votes. She just didn't win the popular male superdelegate votes.

      • Posted By: olderwiser @ 09/15/2008 8:17:38 PM

And in further defense of innocent males who do not discriminate against women, i must say that if a man referred to a woman's success in a political campaign as "eighteen million cracks", we would not have heard the last of the protests yet. Please.

McCain/Palin now... Hillary in 2012, if Obama runs again, I can't wait to see Hillary pick Obama! Oh please let me see Hillary beat Obama. She's so MUCH more qualified, but I guess the democrat elites decided Obama for us.

    • Posted By: cyndigo @ 09/15/2008 10:28:31 PM

Thank God Obama beat Hillary! After seeing how she divided the democratic party and can't even imagine how much more she would have divided the country had she been the Democratic nominee. As they say, you can learn at lot about what someone will be like as a president by the way they run their campaign. For Hillary it was mistake after mistake and debt, debt, debt. While McCain is lie, lie, lie. Obama is the only one who has demonstrated true leadership which is very admirable throughout this campaign!

      • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/16/2008 9:56:51 AM

Best campaigner does not necessarily mean strongest candidate or best president. Obama divided the party by running for president before he was ready, and getting the party elites and the DNC onboard with him. The DNC was perfectly happy to discard any loyalty to the Clintons to nominate a smooth talking, underexperienced politician.
Hillary would have made a FAR better president than Obama or McCain. Obama now realizes he messsed up by not putting Hillary on his ticket, and McCain capitalized on his error. Your comment does nothing but annoy Hillary democrats, widen the very slight divide the democratic party, and give credit to McCain.
Obama has demonstrated true arrogance, hubris, and sensationalism; not leadership. He did not keep his promise by doing everything he could do to help Hillary with her campaing debt.

Let's face it, men are what has this country in the terrible shape it's in. We had a woman candidate that was more than qualified to serve this country and give us a chance to see if change is a reality. We will never know, will we? When a country elects an actor (not even a good actor), son of a former (not so good former president) or a prisoner of war who only likes beautiful women (his first wife was a beauty queen but due to a tragic accident gained weight and whose body was crippled, was left for a rich beautiful woman) then America you get what you ask for.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/16/2008 9:49:32 AM

well said. Hillary would have been FAR BETTER than McCain or Obama

    • Posted By: dan989 @ 09/15/2008 4:28:16 PM

Perhaps we could try a little less male bashing and a little more thoughtful discussion of the issues.

      • Posted By: kategus @ 09/15/2008 4:32:28 PM

        Perhaps the truth hurts.

        • Posted By: dan989 @ 09/15/2008 4:36:34 PM

          So much for thoughtful discussion.

          • Posted By: kategus @ 09/15/2008 4:41:59 PM

So much for someone elses opinion if they object to your opinion.

            • Posted By: dan989 @ 09/15/2008 4:51:04 PM

Yes, its true, you are entitled to your opinion just as I am entitled to mine. The problem as I see it though (from reading your other posts) is that you seem more interested in demonizing men than discussing the issue. Whether men are demons or not is not the issue. The issue is whether Ferraro's comments are accurate. My point was and continues to be to discuss that issue - not some other issue.

  • Posted By: MisterQ @ 09/15/2008 4:31:43 PM

The Palin issue should have little to do with gender. It should be the frighting reality that if McCain is elected and doesnt live out his 4-8 years (he's 75...) then we'll have a right wing nut case not just "balancing" out McCain's Ticket but actualy runing things. McCain lost my vote over this...

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/15/2008 4:57:51 PM

Hes 72, his 96 year old mother is alive and well, she was at the convention. McCain doesn't have much more chance of being incapacitated or dead before 2013 than Obama does

      • Posted By: gigglinggirl @ 09/15/2008 5:37:50 PM

Obviously, you didn't bother to look up that McCain's father passed away at the age of 61. Also, statistically, women outlive men. So, your assumption that his chances of incapacity is lower than Obama's is not supported by the actuarial tables (in case you don't know what that is - it is the records of how long people live that insurance companies use to determine rates and other probabilities). However, as a consolation, you can be sure that if he gets elected, every Democrat in the country will be praying that he lives a long life, since the only thing worse for the country than McCain as President, would be Palin as President!!!!

        • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/16/2008 9:47:45 AM

I did not say McCain's chances of incapacity are lower than Obama's. What an insulting, arrogant, condescending response! I am quite aware of what an actuarial table is. Enter the odds of a 72 year old man with that of a 47 year old former smoker and see how far apart they are.
I do agree that if McCain gets elected, I hope he lives a long life, becuase a Palin presidency would be almost as incompetent as Bush.

    • Posted By: jh35180 @ 09/15/2008 5:16:55 PM

And Obama is a left wing nut case. I would rather take my chances with McCain/Palin than Obama the Pacifist.

      • Posted By: gigglinggirl @ 09/15/2008 5:30:12 PM

I think you give McCain too much credit relating to his ability to run a war. This is a guy who admits he doesn't know how to use a computer! You think that because Obama was against this war (which has NOT gone well - no matter what anyone says), that you should vote for an old guy who is stuck in the past, and a new girl who hasn't learned enough yet? You must really be a hawk - she admitted that she would be willing to go to war with Russia over Georgia! Wow....two wars going badly (even the generals admit that we "can't kill our way to victory") and you're up for one more with the Russians! Yeah...the pacifist is looking pretty good to me right now.

        • Posted By: LMAO @ 09/16/2008 6:59:15 AM

McCain has a physical disability that prevents him from typing on keyboards. His fingers and limbs were broken in Vietnam. In fact he is very much in tune with the modern technology and have been lauded for his stellar work in promoting this area in Congress. So to scoff at a disabled person just shows the arrogance and disdain that Obama has for the elderly and disabled. No wonder he favors abortion for kids that may be born with health issues.

    • Posted By: NO OOOOOOOOO @ 09/15/2008 6:23:40 PM

McCain is not 75...he just now turned 72...get your facts straight.

    • Posted By: gigglinggirl @ 09/15/2008 5:26:12 PM

I agree - I was a former Hillary, undecided voter until McCain chose Palin. Now I'm firmly in the Obama camp.

  • Posted By: cowen123456 @ 09/16/2008 12:05:08 AM

What happened to Geraldine and Hillary and Palin now is horrific! but its due to these women that we will someday never have to read the answers we read in this article. I too felt that Charlie Gibson was talking down to Palin...as though he was better. Sad Sad Sad....

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/16/2008 9:39:18 AM

Geraldine and Hillary are the reasons Palin can successfully run on the McCain ticket. Obama blew it

  • Posted By: dking312 @ 09/16/2008 3:31:05 AM

Yeah everybody...that's a great idea!!! Let's elect a liar (God doesn't likes lies, does he?) who makes strange choices on the fly and loves the mere thought of drafting all of our kids off to war - as opposed to a Harvard grad who taught constitutional law, worked with REAL people on REAL issues, and actually uses his brain and his ability to compromise.

Screw the economy, so what Mccain is stupid if it ain't about war. 894 out of 899 isn't THAT bad.
Oh, and Palin will be so perfect, George W. in a skirt.....

Wow, what an America we will continue to have, where on branch of our govt will continue to do what they want to do and not have to answer to you or me or anybody else.

Isn't a non-honest White house what got us into this big mess in the first place?

I'd love to see some responses. Todd Palin (first dude) will be imposing himself on our govt the same way he did in Alaska, but you people are worried about old ass folks Obama met. He doesn't just run around doing what others tell him to do like Mccain...so why is this an issue and Phil Grahmm isn't? Phil, the guy who was the key player in deregulating everything so that the rich could get over on us without checks and balances......

This is what you all are rooting for?

    WWJD?

Obama's first presidential choice, picking a VP, was the wrong one. Obama and his supporters realize it and regret it. Palin reminds us of several things. 1) Obama spitefully rejected Hillary 2) Obama picked the boring old guy and McCain the exciting fresh woman 3) Every time Obama supporters refer to Palin's lack of experience, it draw more attention to HIS lack of experience.
You thought McCain was going to pick a boring old hypocrite like Romney? McCain got the last laught.
As a democrat, I find Obama's perilous choice to be pitiful.

  • Posted By: LMAO @ 09/16/2008 7:16:45 AM

My friends jumped on the Obama bandwagon simply because he is black. So now it is fair game for whites and women to jump on the McCain-Palin bandwagon for superficial reasons as well. I mean if the Democrat really cared about their agenda why did they not pick the best candidate by far - Hillary Clinton? So now I am expected to care about their precious agenda and vote for ill-qualified Obama? Hell shall freeze over first! I am sure the US will still be standing after 4 years of McCain for I do know one thing - Obama is not a Messiah.

  • Posted By: lucy2008 @ 09/15/2008 3:56:42 PM

This is so tiresome. Why don't you report on women who just want the best people possible to be running for the VP/P positions? Not all of us are involved with this bickering. Not all of us care if Mrs. Palin is a woman. I don't. What I care about is this country and getting back on the right track. Why would I hire someone who doesn't have the resume, leadership character, or widom for that? Am I missing something? This isn't about affirmative action this is our top two positions in the country.

    • Posted By: LMAO @ 09/16/2008 7:13:30 AM

And that is precisely what I was telling my friends when they jumped on the Obama bandwagon because he is black. So now it is fair game for whites and women to jump on the McCain-Palin bandwagon for superficial reasons as well. I mean if the Democrat really cared about their agenda why did they not pick the best candidate by far - Hillary Clinton? WWJD? Why I am sure he wouldn't support a person who has LIED---oops--- about FISA, public funding, and so on and so on. Practically every policy stand he took from the beginning he has lied about and changed it already! Be careful the stones you throw! You are known by the company you keep. If you don't want to be known as a crook--don't hang out with crooks. Same thing goes as for terrorists..don't hang out with them.Same thing as with communists...and above all--don't call the communist man "like a father!" Don't hang out with racists...Do you understand? And you honestly believe Americans are just going to forget these people in obama's life? Hardly, my dear. Also the fact that he tried to undermine US-- Us the people--Us the United States of America--by talking to the Iraqi government about delaying talks about troop withdrawals until after November! Obama loves obama..---not America!!

  • Posted By: Pinkie @ 09/16/2008 6:43:21 AM

And dking312, you are right about the lying--FISA-public funding- ad naseum (what HASN'T obama lied-oops-changed his mind about??? And , btw, Ms Ferraro, don't underestimate the Pumas again! We DO vote for vice-Presidents! And EXPERIENCE in the White House, like McCain/Palin....stack them up against the otheer guys and NO CONTEST! Country before party!

Ferraro needs to let it go. I am sick and tired of her and Hillary complaining sexism. Personally, I blame Hillary for crying sexism so many times, that people became desensitized to the issue. McCain campaign is crying sexism at every chance they have and just hope it sticks. Were their issues of sexism thought the campaign? Perhaps there was. But no more than there issues were issues of racism. But, God forbid any one mention race and then you are playing the race card. Why is it that sexism, gender (i.e. white women) is a legitimate issue to discuss but race is not? We have repeatedly heard that Hillary has put 18 million cracks in the ceiling for little girls. But, not once have we heard Obama has put over 18 million cracks in the ceiling for African Americans or more specifically African American boys. While it was okay for Hillary to be the female candidate it is not okay for Obama to be the black candidate. I am just saying, stop the whining! Hillary lost fair and square. No one cheated; she lost. It happens, its part of life, people lose. People lose football games, American Idol, Deal or No Deal, it happens! They don't start blaming everyone else; they accept defeat and move on with their lives. And, perhaps that???s what really prohibits women from getting into positions of power. People see that some of them cannot accept defeat and behave rationally and logically instead they are still being vindictive, wining and complaining about something that happened months ago. And, let???s be honest! Nobody like???s a person like that!

    • Posted By: cyndigo @ 09/15/2008 10:33:13 PM

I totally agree! Let it go. We have a country to save. Put your sore loosing attitudes aside for a minute and think about what is at stake. This country cannot afford another 4 years of McBush!
Wake up people and let it go!!! Obama and Hillary are pretty much the same when it comes to the issues, so let's just focus and stop gripping about the past.

    • Posted By: News and Notes @ 09/15/2008 5:04:07 PM

The 18 million cracks were brought up at Hillary's concession speech, and it was a perfectly appropriate and valid comment to make at the end of a heart felt race. Since that time, Obama has not, in my opinion, adequately reached out to Hillary supporters. He has done little to help with her debt, which he is not obligated to do, but he promised to. His trip to Europe and acceptance speech in Mile High Stadium made him seem more aloof and sensationalistic. The final insult, which was less than one month ago, was not selecting Hillary as his VP, even though he needed her.

  • Posted By: the_shelton @ 09/15/2008 10:17:10 PM

You know, with all the really serious things that there are to look at in this election, it is a crying shame that so many of you are hung up on this topic. This is like someone worrying about what to where when they go to get a heart bypass. I have never seen so much sidelining, bickering, goofy arguements for so many things that don't matter. We just dropped 500 points on the stock market, the economy is in the toilet, we are at war in too many fronts, our credit is shot, we are on the brink of bankruptcy as a country, millions of people without work and losing their housing and you bunch of dingbats are talking about someone who didn't make it this time. Get over it and get on with it. If we don't stop this downhill slide, you can all debate the qualities of all the also rans while you are standing in the soup line.

Can't you people put this aside long enough to pay some attention to the issues here and who is going to sell us out down the drain some more. We have a campaign that is revolving around whether someone wears pastel lipstick or a business suit. Good grief are you people so shallow as to sell the country down the drain for the sake of an arguement about what might have been? Right now we have McCain making so many untruthful remarks and ads that you have failed to notice that he hasn't said anything at all about what he is going to do about these situations. And you are making these slimey ridiculous accusations so important that Obama can't take the time to put out a meaningful message because he is too busy defending himself against the quasi hero.

Get off your duffs and start acting like responsible adults, this is my life and everyone else's you are frittering away with some pipe dream about what could have been.

Another whiney sore loser. Everyone in the whole world is sexist. Please.

    • Posted By: olderwiser @ 09/15/2008 8:09:44 PM

What is a whiney sore? Is it something that a sexist gets from sex? Is a sexist anything like a genderist? Sex seems more to refer to an act between two or more people, whereas gender seems more to refer to whether one is female or male. I would think that a genderist is one who either over values one of the genders or is somewhat haughty in reference to a particular gender. But, I will be grateful for whatever you can do to enlighten me on this. Thanks, ragtopdodge.

I for one am glad that Newsweek took down Iris Bittencourt's hateful comments. However, there was one point that she raised that surprised me. Is there anything to this alleged disparity between the Equal Pay Act and the Civil Rights Act? Last time I checked, black men and black women were also earning less than white men in the same job. Can black men sue under the Equal Pay Act? If not, why not? Please help. I am thoroughly confused now. Thanks.

Newsweek has always been a magazine of Intelligence and Rationality. Some of the best writers and authors are presented here.

There should be no space for Racism, Supremacism and other forms of degradation like we have seen here from a troll that signs as Iris Bittencourt. Probably not the true name.

Please, preserve the high quality of Newsweek, and erase all this filth and dirt or Racism and Supremacism.

While I agree that it's really deplorable that "Iris Bittencourt"'s attitudes seem to be stuck in the 1750's, just removing it from the boards doesn't do any good. Her attitudes remain the same, they'd just be hidden. For awhile I wanted all the anti-Obama folks trying to claim that he's a "Muslim" off the boards too. But what I'm realizing is, at least this way we can see the hate and recognize it for what it is. I'm actually becoming grateful that some of it has been posted, because my eyes are open now.

It's like steering a ship. Hoping the tide covers over the view of the rocks near the shore doesn't make them any less jagged and dangerous. We all need to be going forwards without any illusions about the attitudes and the hatreds that some people hold.

But we can speak out against it, and I commend you for doing so.

Ferraro is nuts. She is locked into seeing sexism where there is none. Sarah Palin was treated with kid gloves in her one and only interview in comparison to the scrutiny that either Hillary or Barack Obama received over many months of a grueling campaign, including on foreign policy. Charles Gibson was certainly not a sexist (for one, he didn't just pull all those questions out of the blue, they were the questions that the dialog across the media spectrum would have asked whether she was Sarah Palin or Sam Palin). Ferraro has totally nullified any historical honor that might have accrued to her for her '84 run for VP by her repeated, baseless attacks on the media and directly on Barack Obama. She has contributed nothing to this campaign but poison and pettiness. She should get over it or get out of the way. America has a serious choice to make in this election.

    • Posted By: varacefan @ 09/15/2008 4:18:07 PM

Oh now that Ms. Ferraro isn't towing the company line she has become poison and petty. Does she not have a right to her own opinion? You people who claim to support women are frauds. You really support liberal women and that is it. You are so sad. If you choose not to support the first women vice president that is fine. But to slam her is showing where your motives really are. Just keep doing what you're doing. You are pissing so many people off you're hurting your own cause!

      • Posted By: sabretruth @ 09/15/2008 4:23:53 PM

Ferraro has the right to her opinion, and I have the right to call BS when I see it. And I am not slamming Palin, I am simply criticizing her utter lack of qualifications to be a heartbeat away from the presidency. Nothing personal. I'm sure moose hunting with her would be a hoot.

        • Posted By: janforhilary @ 09/15/2008 5:57:26 PM

At least she is a heart beat away from the presidency. Obama has no experience and you want to put him in the white house. How stupid can you be.

She's running for VP. Let's get to Obama's qualifications. No one in the media seems to concerned with doing that. That is why it is sexist. No one asks Joe Biden anything. The media bias is incredibly ridiculous.

            sabretruth...
you bellow from the rooftops that palin isn't qualified and is only a "heartbeat away from the presidency." all the while, you get goose bumps over obama who has less experience than palin in terms of ACTUAL leadership. he's a freshman senator who has spent 1/4 of his term on the campaign trail. and he isn't running for the "heartbeat away" position: he's going for the top job.
this is called hypocritical hero worship, if you're curious.
