I have migrelepsy - I had seizures induced by my migraines. For the past 20 years, I have been a chronic migraine sufferer (14 or more days a month, but for me about 25). It's horrible, but you just have to go on. I have gone to work every day with a migraine, I have a child, I just can't let these things win over me. I am currently going to an awesome specialist who has been able to reduce them by 40% (to me an absolute miracle) by attacking the five triggers with medicine/and a better sleep program. To those who have never suffered, be thankful. To not have an the feeling of someone stabbing your head wtih an ice pick is truly wonderful. For those who do have this awful feeling, I am with you. But my approach has been to not let them win over you. Smile and go on. Laying in bed is not the answer. Seek out specialists until you find one who can help. Also, accupuncture is an alternative that does provide some relief, but not a cure.

I was having stroke-like symptoms which would last for days, causing total paralysis on my left side, without any head pain. It took 2 years before I was diagnosed with complex migraines. I was told it might be MS, TIAs, etc. A very talented neurologist figured it out, and I have been on Topamax to control my symptoms ever since. Migraines are real, and should not be dismissed as "all being in your head" (no pun intended). I salute Dr. Bernstein and her colleagues working to make life easier for all of us.
