this is just IGNORANCE BEYOND WORDS. First of all, the panel in which the McCain-Palin camp are trying NOW block, derail or delay consists of THREE REPUBLICANS and TWO DEMOCRATS! ARE we to buy into this Attorney for McCain that his panel is "tainted"?? ARE you NUTS? This is EXACTLY WHY the American VOTERS should be outraged. This is NOTHING but a political ploy by the McCain-Palin camp to HIDE the TRUTH before the Election on Nov. 4th!!! WHAT is the McCain-Palin SO AFRAID OF? WHAT ARE THEY HIDING FROM THE VOTERS? WHAT IS Gov. Palin trying to HIDE, she herself stated publicly that she "welcomed the investigation and she would cooperate FULLY". So WHY is she NOW NOT COOPERATING?

This brings SERIOUS DOUBTS as to Gov. Sarah Palin's CREDIBILITY as Governor of Alaska. This clearly proves that she is HIDING something from her own Republican Supporters and the American people as a nation! John McCain should be CALLED OUT on the carpet for trying to CHEAT THE AMERICAN VOTERS OUT OF THE TRUTH regarding his VP pick.

DO YOU THE VOTER WANT THE TRUTH AFTER YOU VOTE or BEFORE YOU VOTE ON NOV. 4TH???

THEN START CALLING YOUR CONGRESSMEN AND WOMEN AND DEMAND THEY FOCUS ON THIS INVESTIGATION AND GET TO THE BOTTOM OF CRAP, AND STOP TRYING TO SNOW BALL US!!

    WHERE ARE YOUR VOICES????

The Republicans have been in control for the past 8 years, SIX of those years they controlled both the Senate and Congress!!! THEY HAVE DESTROYED THE SURPLUS DEFICIT, THEY ALLOWED THE MORTGAGE MELTDOWN that is going to cost the taxpayers billions!!

Republicans have a LOT of NERVE blaming the Democrats when you have a Republican President vetoing everything on the floor. Don't get it twisted, the Republicans KNOW FULL WELL, it's their own party that has SCREWED THEM ROYALLY!!! They got SCREWED BY THEIR OWN PARTY!! How hard is that to swallow NOW huh? Republicans still continue to blame everyone else except THEMSELVES!!! What hypocrites...it's the pot calling the kettle black!!!

Listen, I'm not trying attack any of you on a personal level, what I am attacking is the idea that we should all vote against our own best interests and that of our families, by allowing the Party which has been seen by the proof as having run the single most corrupt administration in this great nation's history, be allowed another four years to do what?

To caredaytrader:Our parents were deeply divided by race, as a matter of fact our grandparents even more so. Today this generation has progressed, and I firmly believe our children will be less likely to view race as a significant factor, Face it, America is changing. Back in Rev, Wright's day, he experienced issues that made him that way, but those days are fast disappearing. Not until this whole generation are dead and gone will the children of today have a chance to a new start. Until then, bigots like you and I will continue to retard their growth. But there is hope. The demograhics dictate a new day has dawned, when we see the interaction of cultures and beliefs. This is what this country was designed to be, and will eventually be. By the way there is no such thing as black racism. Racism, as defined, is the ability and capability to restrict or deny opportunities or entitlements based on race. You have to be in a position of power to enact such a deed. People who are historically disadvantaged (minorities) are not able to inflict such isms. Good day.

Hey I agree with you and I'm not a racist. I just hate Obama because he will raise my taxes. I paid $107,000 last year, more than 10 times the AVERAGE FAIR amount of $9,600 that is the avg tax paid and now he wants me to pay more. With his social security tax increases it would cost me about $50,000 more in taxes, $10k more in capital gains taxes and income taxes probably $20k more each year.

As a small business owner who is doing very well I already pay about 50% in total taxes. I'm not greedy for wanting to keep MY HALF of MY WORK for me and my FAMILY.

Obama will destroy America and kill millions more jobs with his high taxes. Money doesn't grow on trees, it will mean price increases, lower pay to employees and fewer jobs!

      • Posted By: BobbyNY @ 09/17/2008 11:25:38 AM

What you have just described is the false propaganda voiced by the republican campaign. It is not true, but I will not try to convince you. Don't miss the first presidential debate, then you will get all your answers. Senator Obama's economic plan will NOT raise taxes for 95% of all americans. The other 5% will be rolled back to levels of the Clinton era. Big businesses however who have enjoyed tax breaks for all these years, will now pay their share.

The proof that John McCain is out of touch came as recently as yesterday, when in a speech he publically proclaimed the economy to be strong. Just the night before that speech came news of the collapse Lehman Brothers, AIG and a couple of other major financial institutions. All of this in the wake of the bail out of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. You'd have to live in a bubble or under a rock and have just emerged that morning not to have heard the news, so what is McCain's excuse? Oh, btw, did you also notice the crystal clear flip-flop by him about that statement when he finally learned he was dead wrong in his speech that morning on the afternoon news programs?

Don't even bother reminding them about the DEMOCRATIC congress. They work off emotion, not reason, always have. Dems were miserable during clinton, and they will be miserable with the next president. Being miserable blaming whiners is just who they are. There parents should be put to sleep.

So. let me get this straight: The man who promises to shine a light on Wall Street's dealings wants to keep his running mate's affairs in the shadows. What are they afraid of? That there might be something there? Also, if his running mate alleges on national TV that her former brother-in-law has engaged in dangerous and illegal activities and that he threatened to kill her father, then she has an obligation to offer proof. What better opportunity than cooperating with this investigation?

    • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/17/2008 10:30:59 AM

Why do you think she's hiding? With Obama's hoard of lawyers up there, I'm sure Palin's attorneys are doing what anyone would do in that situation... not allow her to comment until they are ready for her to do so.

      • Posted By: bwlear @ 09/17/2008 10:54:39 AM

Funny how the people who are claiming that the investigation has become curropted by politics are the same people who have sent political lawyers to help obstruct the truth from being exposed. Kepp trying to blame Sen Obama, who has never been to Alaska. Why wont the Gov just appear on FOX and explain her side of the story? Why is it that her husband, who is running for nothing, has the same number of appearences as she does? Why was she for the investigation before she was against it? Must be getting harder and harder to keep track of which lie she has told for which story. She has demonstrated one thing to all of us. Her change as a Republican is that she will be indited before she even gets to Washington.

        • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/17/2008 11:15:10 AM

What do you think, Obama has to actually be in Alaska for this? lol And this isn't all going to unravel in a week... Obama took his time in talking about Wright, Ayers and Rezko.

And BTY, you have your wish! Palin will be on Fox tonight and tomorrow night, and I'm certain she'll address this.

    • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/17/2008 10:34:14 AM

And by the way, she needs no additional proof of Wooten's threat to kill her father... he admitted doing it.

      • Posted By: basedrum777 @ 09/17/2008 10:41:47 AM

I believe he denied threatening anyone in her family.

        • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/17/2008 11:07:49 AM

You're right, my mistake. It was tasering his stepson that he admitted to.

  • Posted By: keeptrying10 @ 09/17/2008 11:04:37 AM

You're not really working hard. You're probably stealing from your employer by being on this site during work hours. Most hard working people, don't want a handout, so would never be a Dem. They just would not do it. Because you didn't try, study, etc. during your youth, doesn't mean you can now leach from those of us who did. Parasite = Democrat.

    • Posted By: basedrum777 @ 09/17/2008 11:14:27 AM

Another partisan idiotic statement assuming that those who don't make over $5million a year (John McCain's middle class) are somehow not working hard. Must be a rich kid who inherited his money but somehow thinks the interest he earns is hard work. Newsflash buddy but most people who work hard doing manual labor don't make enough money to be Republicans.

  • Posted By: stevenv1999 @ 09/17/2008 8:50:27 AM

You know what, it doesn't matter what any of you Palin supporters think, this board was bi-partisan, with I think 8 Republicans and 4 Democrats. So, what you are saying is the Republican's working on this are partisan and it is political? Only McCain's, save Palin possee are saying that. Also, she said she would fully cooperate with the investigation. People, it is called transparency in government and if she truely did not abuse her power while in office, then with a bi-partisan committee looking in to this, what does she have to worry about? The investigation would never have been opened if Palin didn't look as if she was abusing power. First off, if McCain would have vetted her properly, especially after only meeting her briefly, twice, your party would not be having this many problems playing with the big boys. She deserves this kind of scrutiny, especially with her own states representatives and neither campaign should interfere with local politicians doing their duty, unlike the Federal government not doing their sworn duty and impeaching Bush for his crimes. Get over it and just keep ignoring McCain and Palin's constant lying.

    • Posted By: Pallisor @ 09/17/2008 9:23:36 AM

Steve, you must have not been here at NW long... Newsweek is a liberal mag, and there are more dems here than reps. Yes, there are people on the right here, but it seems to run 60-40 or better Democrat. Abusing power? The idiot trooper threatened to kill a family member! That alone was enough to cut him loose. Then there's the little matter of tazering a 10 year old, because he said the kid asked for it!

How about the same scrutiny for Obama? Not going to happen with the MSM in his back pocket. And by the way, exactly what "actual" crimes did Bush commit that he should be impeached for? Do you not think that if there were actual crimes that archrival Pelosi wouldn't have had him impeached? And aside from both sides putting their spin on certain issues, what constant lies from McCain and Palin referring to?

      • Posted By: hard working woman1 @ 09/17/2008 11:12:59 AM

Hey Pallisor your girl ,Palin was makeing a great effort to be transparent when she announced her 17 year old daughter was pregnant (this type of situation always reflects on the mother). When you make a mistake own up to it, her daughter made the bed and she now has to sleep in it. I don't care if it was directly or indirectly as an elected offical your personal agenda should not come into play, that stays at home. Admit it and take whatever comes in the fall out! Stop acting like a "strong" woman then hiding behind Mcain!

  • Posted By: Alongwayback @ 09/17/2008 11:11:51 AM

My vote, if Sarah Palin and the McCain campaign continue to refuse to cooperate with independant investigators concerning the issues surrounding her, she should drop out of the race until such a time that her legal issues are resolved to the satisfaction of the American people.

  • Posted By: Alongwayback @ 09/17/2008 10:57:11 AM

I truly believe that if a person has nothing to hide and believe in our system of justice in this country, they should be more than happy to have someone investigate any circumstance for which they stand accused. That having been said, I simply do not understand Sarah Palin's attempt to delay or even derail altogether, the very action that would exonerate her in the eyes of the American public. I mean, why, assuming a person is not guilty of having done anything illegal or unethical, would they want to block any and all attempts to exonerate them? My grandfather told me a bit of information to carry through life and has served me well through 47 years of life. He said, "If person claims innocence from an accusation, yet tries to prevent those who would exonerate them from bringing the truth into the light, you can surely know by their very actions, they are thus guilty of the crime(s) they have committed and stand accused of". He also so told me this, "Truth is not man's creation and despite any attempt by man to keep it hidden in darkness, it will always find its' way to the light of day, because truth is pure and born of the same properties which produced the light it seeks in the first place". What he further said to clarify this statement to my then, young mind was, "All things you see in the darkness of night are almost always devoid of detail because of shadow, lack of illumination and the ability of darkness to play tricks with your eyes, but in the light day, all things are revealed in greater detail, for in light, there are no shadows, just as in truth, the details cannot hide, because there are no longer any shadows in which details can be hidden". Obviously, the McCain camp and Sarah Palin feel there is something there that needs to remain hidden by darkness. Otherwise, what plausible reason would they have for attempting to suppress the truth from being brought out into the light of day for all to view? If they are truly agents of "change", they really need to prove it here and let the investigation roll without interference or manipulation by them or their agents. If they do not leave the investigation to its' own devices and timetable, they only prove what Barack Obama has been asserting all along, that they represent four more years of the same Bush/Cheney policies of the last eight years. The proof would then be in the proverbial pudding so to speak. My opinion, "McCain/Palin 08'--Two bridges to nowhere" and "McCain/Palin 08'--Four more years of the same thing we are trying to rid ourselves of". How can you say you are "agents of change", when you attempt to do the very same things the Bush administration has practiced on a regular basis for the last eight years?

    • Posted By: pkgoode @ 09/17/2008 11:11:40 AM

Right on. If they want us to trust them, then give us reason to. Talk is cheap,

  • Posted By: Alongwayback @ 09/17/2008 11:09:52 AM

I am not saying he deserved it or not, only the results of an honest investigation by a third party can determine that. But, what I am questioning, as is the rest of America, is if she had proper reason to do it and under what circumstances she tried to have it executed. You know there is such a thing as due process under the law. If Sarah Palin is so innocent of wrong doing, which the early results say she is not, why block an investigation that would exonerate you if you are indeed telling the truth?

  • Posted By: chrisdafrog @ 09/17/2008 11:09:48 AM

It is great to see how the Evangelical Party believes in the american system of justice, due process of law. Gives one hope.

And just think, she could be the president.

The reaction simply points to sure guilt. This investigation was going on before she was picked by McCain's party as his VP. Now that she in the limelight, they launch a full scale attack on the investigation in true party style using mafia like muscle tactics to supress the investigation.

This woman's background is full of incidents of abuses of power either to help herself or dismiss her foes.

Gee, really sounds like change to me.

    SECRECY ( very Cheney like)

Interviews show that Ms. Palin runs an administration that puts a premium on loyalty and secrecy. The governor and her top officials sometimes use personal e-mail accounts for state business; dozens of e-mail messages obtained by The New York Times show that her staff members studied whether that could allow them to circumvent subpoenas seeking public records.

Rick Steiner, a University of Alaska professor, sought the e-mail messages of state scientists who had examined the effect of global warming on polar bears. (Ms. Palin said the scientists had found no ill effects, and she has sued the federal government to block the listing of the bears as endangered.) An administration official told Mr. Steiner that his request would cost $468,784 to process.

When Mr. Steiner finally obtained the e-mail messages ??? through a federal records request ??? he discovered that state scientists had in fact agreed that the bears were in danger, records show.

???Their secrecy is off the charts,??? Mr. Steiner said.

While Ms. Palin took office promising a more open government, her administration has battled to keep information secret. Her inner circle discussed the benefit of using private e-mail addresses. An assistant told her it appeared that such e-mail messages sent to a private address on a ???personal device??? like a BlackBerry ???would be confidential and not subject to subpoena.???

Democrats prefer giving power to the individual and not to the collective.

THAT IS THE MOST INACCURATE COMMENT MADE IN HISTORY. WOW. Democratic policies MIRROR socialist policies, which favor the collective. You are a complete fool for making that statement. Some of us are educated.

  • Posted By: DaveWK @ 09/17/2008 11:06:30 AM

This obvious attempt at coverup will only make matters worse for Palin/McCain. They have lost all credibility on this issue of abuse of power and vindictiveness, on the issue of fiscal responsibility (turns out they say "thanks...and thanks again" to public pork), on appropriate Wall Street regulation (independent fact checkers are at work exposing McCain's long held and antiquated anti-regulatory views), and about everything else.

  • Posted By: martin_gray @ 09/17/2008 11:04:00 AM

10:49:43, I have to to so will make this very short. You are wrong. Democrats prefer giving power to the individual and not to the collective. Republicans feel that trickle down economics is fantastic because the wealthy rule the collective and they can control the distribution of wealth which in reality is mostly horizontally. Democrats believe if you give a hand up to the middle and lower classes, they can earn more moeny and they will spend it in the businesses owned by the wealthy. Money, they trickles up, rarely down. Democrats are concerned about the plight of the individual, Republicans the situation of the collective hierarchy must be maintained at all cost even if it is done through lies, distortions and dishonor.

I am a Democrat leaning Independent in this election because I am tired of the lies propagated by Bush, Cheney, Rove, McCain, Palin, etc. They will tell any distortion in order to win this election. I am totally turned off by the lack of Palin's experience and by the vicious negative campaign of McCain which is based almost exclusively on lies and untruths which are repeated over and over..

I will vote for a Republican when I find an honest one such as former Representative Leach from Iowa.

    To Every American,

Put yourself in the picture. If you were under indictment would you be able to quash an investigation with a group of high paid attorneys, or have a state attorney general act in your favor to block subpoenas or an investigation? I thnk not. You can bet as your average aAmerican citizen you would be held accountable and would be tried. TSarah Palin is doing the same thing Bush and his cronies have been doing for years, thwart the rule of law, as long as it works in their favor. I ma very scared now. If McCain,Palin will do this to cover up whatever, what are they willing to do to win the eelction. anything? Youcan bet they will.

If you are trying to win the female vote by saying you want women to have their rights upheld; you bet you must walk on eggs and be careful not to ruffle all the female population. If I had rose colored glasses, I would have believed the Obama campaign was fair to women (which was a bit difficult after the way the Democrats treated Clinton). Now, I know the Republicans are polititians just like the Democrats... But the Democrats have gone too far left. If I wanted to live in a Communist, "machista" country, I would move to Cuba.

    • Posted By: basedrum777 @ 09/17/2008 10:47:30 AM

It depends if you believe that a woman's right to choose if a woman's issue. If you do then Palin is clearly not a candidate for you. She believes ONLY to save the life of the woman should abortion be legal; not in the case of rape or incest. In her world a woman who has an abortion caused by a rape would go to jail for more time than her rapist. Think about it.

  • Posted By: Ian in LR @ 09/17/2008 10:34:26 AM

The only reason to stop this inquiry is the fear that it will expose Governor Palin's abuse of power and vindictiveness. Opposing the investigation by stating that it is politicized, with the Democrats trying to make Palin look bad, is ridiculous. Whatever facts might come out, they will / should be facts. Either she crossed the line by involving herself directly or indirectly, through her husband or subordinates, or she didn't. Trying to stop the probe only makes her look guilty - regardless of the reasons given. This seems to be her spin on the President's wanting to claim executive privilege when his advisors were subpoenaed to testify in the CIA leak case or over the abuse of power at the Department of Justice. Hopefully, everyone can see this for what it is. While the investigation may be tinged by politics that doesn't mean it is unwarranted. Where there is smoke there may be fire - and the governor may be hiding behind it. Isn't it great that politicians can decide whether or not they should be investigated, how they should be investigated and whether or not they will cooperate? She strikes me as someone used to getting her way and probably can't believe anyone has the nerve to question her. Heads will roll - if she doesn't lose hers first!
