I won't even comment on the merits of the investigation, except to say that since it was begun BEFORE Gov. Palin hit the national radar and it WAS a bi-partisan investigation, if she has nothing to hide, why not cooperate fully. Beyond that, I just wonder what the Republican Noise Machine would have to say if the situations were reversed and either Barack Obama or Joe Biden was under investigation in their home states and their campaigns brought in such big guns to bully the investigators?

Fannie Mae, Freddy Mac, Bear Sterns, Lehman Brothers, AIG and the rest of the failed institutions have failed primarily because of former Senator Phil Gramm. The Gramm-Leach-Biley Act stripped away the regulations separating banking from investment companies, insurance companies and mortgage guaranty companies. Those regulations were added after the Great Depression when it became obvious that allowing banks to be in bed with the stock market was a sure way to rig the system to collapse, as it did in 1929.

Lo an behold, a few years after the regulations were removed, the sh!t has hit the fan, and the inter-related investment, insurance, mortgage and banking industries are now starting to collapse, and guess what, you, the taxpayer will have to pay to clean it up.

Phil Gramm is the Senator who brought you the "Enron Loophole" that de-regulated futures trading, causing the prices of oil, gas and food to spiral out of control.

Senator Phil Gramm was McCain's top economic advisor until recently, when he was forced to step down after he said that there is no problem with our economy other than a "mental recession" on the part of a "nation of whiners." Phil Gramm is the man who McCain said he wants to name Secretary of the Treasury if he becomes President. You have to believe John McCain when he says that he knows little about the economy -- so little that he doesn't even know who to choose as an advisor.

Barack Obama addressed the Enron Loophole, futures trading, short-selling and Wall Street de-regulation months ago in his economic position papers, which are available on his website. Obama has been saying all along that he is going to put in strict regulations and clean up Wall Street.

McCain just started saying that he favors regulation in the past couple of weeks. How is it that McCain is going to put in new regulations, when he plans to appoint Phil Gramm, the man who authored the de-regulation, as Secretary of the Treasury? McCain says he would fire Christopher Cox, the SEC Chairman, to solve the problem. However, the problem is caused by lack of regulations on the legislative level, regulations that were removed before Cox was appointed. The SEC can only enforce regulations that actually exist, so making a scapegoat of Cox solves nothing. I would suggest that McCain is guilty of saying what's politically expedient, that he does not actually intend to regulate the banking industry. McCain knows that most Americans are unaware of the details.

I am a middle-aged white conservative Republican who loves America. I am voting for Barack Obama.

It would be nice to see McCain prove what political "mavericks" he and Palin are by allowing a fair investigation to be completed.

This investigation was started by the Alaskan people long before Palin was choosen VP nominee. It is a JOKE the Rebublicans are now trying to dismiss a legitimate inquiry- started by the Alaskan people- as an Obama conspiracy. What fool would believe this?

McCain proves he will sacrifice any integrity he has left to obtain power in the White House. This is The Same Old Politics. Americans have had enough!

The Palins are bloody cowards! Nothing scares them except a Democrat. No, wait. Nothing scares them except a Democrat with a subpoena. What are you afraid of? Someone finding out the truth? Looks like someone blinked. And blinked. And blinked. And lied. And lied. And blinked. And lied. And blinked. And lied. etc.

HAVEN???T WE SEEN THIS MOVIE BEFORE?: refusal to cooperate with Congressional investigations; emails disappearing; good state attorneys being fired for no good reason, etc, time and time again during these last eight years. These people think they???re above the law, that they don???t have to cooperate with the various branches of government. Their aristocratic, king-like mentality goes against everything our Constitution stands for. And the kicker is, these republicans claim they???re for open and accountable government! Go figure.

By all means stop this backround check of the next Vice- President. She has enough problems selling her resume- lite to non-believers. She is a proven American citizen, and she likes hunting, hockey and hating liberals. Republicans know this investigation just adds weight to her experience and credibility. Almost all Republican governors , representatives and senators have been investigated for lying and cheating. Gov. Palin should not be vetted without the same treatment. She has proven she knows how to lie sincerely. That alone qualifies her for higher office. Call her a liar and you concede her experience as a politician. Call her a liar under investigation and you remove any doubt about her Republican credentials. Call her a liar; support her explanations; defend her to the end: then you merit the Republican lifetime achievement award for loyalty and courage. Gov. Palin lies well enough to deserve a place in Washington. She will make a great afterthought to the McCain Presidency.

It seems that all the Republicans can do these days is lie, obstruct and generally act as if the law does not apply to them. If there is no ethics violation, what are they so afraid of? Let the investigation move forward and then we'll all know for sure......and let it be the original bipartisan committee. If anything, the McCain's movement to the Personnel board is what would "taint" it.

Please read editorials for the last two days in the Anchorage Daily News ( adn.com) as well as the Troopergate story from the beginning (there is a sepcial link.)

This is not longer about Wooten, who was investigated and punished prior to Monegan taking office. It is about Palin and her lack of honor, integrity, character. She should not be in ANY leading position for any party in any government.

She has repeated laid one lie on top of another (which contradict each other) as to why she fired Monegan, even claiming last week that he was not fired, that he quit. Now it is insubordination which flies in the face of her original offer to him as Commissioner of the Alcohol Control Board after she "fired" him from the Dept. of Public Safety.

No explanation from her as to why she would offer him another top job after firing him from another top job due to insubordination. Also, if her current reason is the truth, why didn't she just say that months ago. Instead we got first, no answer as to why Monegan was fired, then she said she wanted to move in another direct, but it turns out the Dept. was already moving in that direction. and then it was because Monegan was not doing a good job of stopping bootlegging in the villages and could not recruit new trooprs, when, in fact, just 3 weeks prior to that she had publically praised Monegan for doing extremely well in both these areas, which is why she offered him the job with the ABC.

Ok, need aspirin. Reviewing all Palin has claimed just makes my head hurt. It does not have any logic at all.

Plain is counting on people outside Alaska not taking the interest nor trouble to research Troopergate for themselves. She is counting on saying something long enough and loud enough that enough people will believe her that her reputation will be salvaged.

I guarantee you she does NOT have an 80% approval rating in Alaska. Soon after Troopergate started, a local TV station took a poll and the result was an 87% disapproval rating. Palin campaigned for govenor on a platform of open and transparent government. No one believed her on day 1 of troopergate and few believe her now.

Monegan could not legally do anything about Wooten. Wooten was a done deal before Monegan was given the job. Palin asked him to commit a crime for him and he would not do it. Monegan has been a law enforcement officer in Anchorage for 35 years and is well respected and liked.

Palin should be impeached and Monegan should run for govenor. He is a man of dignity, respect and honor.

By what stretch of the imagination are we to presume the Palin Troopergate investigation has been roundly politicized. After all, there is a legislative oversite committee of EIGHT Republicans and FOUR Democrats. Confusion prevails because the McCain campaign put the fear of god into all journalists about Governor Palin and all of them, without exception, took the bait. We can and should hold journalism at large responsible for such incompetence. With the possible exception of Larry King, I think our journalists are all a bunch of WIMPS.

The people supporting these Republican candidates are at their core, mostly made up of people who have traditionally been racist in the past or tend to be from generations of people who think of discrimination as a tool to further their own false fears. They also tend to be made up of people who really were closet racists, but for fear of what their neighbors would think of them, have kept it in the closet, only to bring it out in moments where it can't be proven against them or in moments like this election where you have candidates that make it seem like it???s okay or that it is your right by the constitution to be a racist. Some of these same people are made up of the back room types, you know, the ones who conduct most of this nations side-deals, which just happens to derail most of the legislation that would actually benefit the masses as opposed to the few. McCain's campaign has sought to tap into this inbred hatred, regardless of what it will do to the nation, which explains why they continue to proclaim known lies in their speeches, seemingly oblivious to the fact that these statements are publically known lies that have been debunked.
Republicans are gushing over with glee with the idea that some many people, who even remotely harbor racist thoughts, no matter how trivial, are connecting with them and voting against their own best interest. Another tool of words they utilize is getting people to believe, that if you don't vote for them, you are somehow unpatriotic (i.e., ???Country First" slogan). How anyone even slightly intelligent can buy into these painfully obvious ploys and vote against their own best interests is beyond me. I guess some people would rather be happy with their hate and corporate greed, than to see one nation, undivided, striving for racial harmony, equality, fairness of law and ending disproportionate economics in this country which would truly benefit us all. Sorry for the rant, but this is our future and that of our children these war and hate mongers are screwing with.

Of course we are glad American's are racist. Obama's policies will DESTROY this great country and ANYTHING that prevents his election we are HAPPY ABOUT!

Thank God so many blue collar white Democrats are racist. It WILL GUARANTEE Mc Cain getting elected.

Obama is a moron, I personally could care less if he's black. Colin Powell or Alan Keyes are both black and I'd vote for them in a second.

careerdaytrader can't imagine how stupid and self-defeating it is to overtly celebrate racism, or even a mindless partisan hack like he pretends to be (yes, I'm suspicious, at this point) would show more discretion.

I think the supposition about the prevalence of racism in the electorate is no longer true, by the way. The United States of America is moving past that. Time for careerdaytrader to catch up, and quit projecting his own bigotted attitudes.

Careerdaytrader, do you understand that the Republicans have controlled literally everything for the last eight years? Do you also understand the fact that they lost control of congress only last fall? Do you understand why they lost that control? Do you get it, that it is because of George W. Bush's policies that were pushed through during the last seven years, because they had control of congress, that has cost you and I most of our paychecks? Do you understand the fact that in retaliation for the American voting public ousting their control of congress last fall, they have done absolutely nothing since last fall but block any attempts to get things done to ease the pressures on your finances? Yeah, that's right, Republicans have deadlocked every opportunity in congress that would have saved you money. Check the actual facts and not the ones they want you to keep repeating as truth. How you and others who have been hoodwinked by the Republican Party can continue to vote against your own best interest is beyond me. You all act as if the last eight years didn'y happen, or worse yet, that the Democrats have been the party in power for the last eight years.

I am luckily in the GROUP that Obama wishes to tax more. I'm in the over $250k income group.

It is in MY best interest and in the interest of all successful small business owners to point out that Obama will raise taxes and this will hurt me, business owners everywhere and cost America millions of jobs.

I don't believe in welfare and Obama wants to give tax rebates to people who didn't even PAY TAXES. He's a liar, a crook, associates with terrorists, is racist and goes to racist churches and is a scum bag for not even helping his brother George who lives in Kenya on $1 to $2 a day.

Why Won't Obama help his poor brother? Why isn't this on the news every night. He wants to raise MY taxes but is too stingy to help FAMILY.

Crocodile tears, you don't care about the poor. You only care about your taxes, If we investigate, I'm sure we'll find that you don't pay your fair share. You took advantage of loopholes and you are prpbably NOT paying your share. I'm sure the poor are paying a percentage of what they MAKE. Who are you to judge. I'll never forgot how hard it was to make it and I'm not going to berate the ones that haven't. If you do lose your money I wouldn't pity you, I'd say you had it coming..

McCain only cares about making up for not being an admiral, you are just there for the ride. To keep the war going, he WILL tax you if China stops lending.

50% of lowest income earners pay NOTHING. I really don't have much problem paying the outrageous tax I am now but absolutely REFUSE to pay more. I'll just start a bearer share Panama corporation and do 40 to 50% of my business there to even things out and make things more FAIR. It is MY WORK you are taxing by the way and when I already pay 20 to 50 TIMES more tax than most of you I resent it when you ask me to pay more while YOU DO NOT! You are soo greedy.

From the outside looking in, I am a Canadian, that has been following this presidential race with intense vigor..the only reason I am writing is to give the people of the U.S a perspective of how this is viewed by others around the world. Obviously, I can't speak for the world, since my name is no Palin, but I am certain others feel the same way.First, if everything that Ms.Palin does and says, is God's will, then her God must be the one below, and she should be smellikng of sulfur..Her obvious lies and deception, not to mention hypocracy, is foull smelling for sure. That is not what bothers me the most tho. What bothered me most, is during her only recent interview, she did not know what the Bush Doctrine was..So...Not a huge deal..Many people did not know, and that's ok...Why didn't she just simply say, I'm not sure what that is exactly, and go on from there..Instead, she pretended to know what it was, and speeled on with a bunch of rhetoric..That showed to me that she was full of it, and gutless to boot...I could go on for days about the McCain/Palin ticket.. It's funny how the word change never entered McCain's platform, until the crap hit the fan..The world hopes, that Americans will choose the cerebral, grounded Obama over the P>O>W..If that makes him a war hero, that's fine, but it sure as hell doesn't qualify him as a war/security expert..and if it does, then there's probably 50,000 more candidates out there..The difference is, that they all have morals, that would prohibit them from becoming a politician. Good luck with your election, and we are praying that this is not going to be another Bush vs.Kerry fiasco..

How about calling it Taser Gate! Since its ultimately about an evil copy who has killed people and also tasered a 10 year old boy and threatened to kill others in Palin's family.

      Tasergate SOUNDS MORE FACTUALLY ACCURATE!

      • Posted By: DobermanTracker @ 09/18/2008 6:40:50 PM

Wooten tasered his son when the boy asked him to because he wanted to know what it felt like. Wooten put the weapon on "test" and gave him a split second touch. Stupid! You bet. If he was my husband, I would have stood him up against a wall and slapped him silly.

HOWEVER, he did not punish, nor attack, nor abuse the child. At face value, Trooper Tasers Son, looks like Wooten is evil as hell, but that was NOT the case.

Besides, this event took place before the Wooten divorce and no body in Palin's family reported it to any law enforcement agency. About 2 years later, when the child custody issues started, then PALIN, NOT HER SISTER I.E THE CHILD'S MOTHER, started pressuring the troopers to fire Wooten.

The illegal moose kill? Wooten's wife that the permit not Wooten. When they spotted a moose, she got "buck fever" so Wooten took her rifle and shot the moose. Another Fish and Wildlife Officer was with them, and did not think it worth reporting. Technically, Wooten was wrong but since the permit was in his wife's name, the FW officer thought it was ok. The moose was dressed, taken to Palin's dad's house and later divided among family members, including Palin herself who served her now famous "moose stew" for her family.

At this point, Wooten is no longer an issue. IT IS ABOUT PALIN'S ABUSE OF POWER, HER LACK OF HONESTY IN CONSISTENTLY TELLING ONE LIE AFTER ANOTHER---NOT HE SAID, SHE SAID, BUT MEDIA QUOTES AND TV NEWS VIDEOS, WHERE SHE CONTRADICTS HER PREVIOUS LIES.

Come on. it has nothing to do with the guy tasering the kid (who is his son and Palin's nephew). No one is suggesting that tasering kids is okay. Its disgusting, in fact.

But this is about finding out whether she abused her power as governor to fire the trooper supervisor.

Sarah Palin is a MAVERICK who will bring real change to Washington!

She said "HOLD ME ACCOUNTABLE" and pledged to cooperate fully with the investigation.

    She has nothing to hide!

This is how you can tell she is a maverick!

Sorry to all you HOPE-LOVING LIBERALS, but Sarah is NOT going to act like Bush and Cheney! She's ready to lead, she's ready to take responsibility and be transparent! Opaqueness and justice-dodging are trademarks of the "insider" Washington tactics that mavericks like Sarah will CHANGE!...

Wait, she decided NOT to cooperate with the investigation????

HMMM... if I were reasonable, I'd wake up and withdraw my support... BUT, NO!, SARAH IS A MAVERICK, and mavericks don't play by the rules!

BOTTOM LINE: Sarah Palin is lowering the bar for double-talk. She'll abuse power and cover it up just because she feels like it... and in the end, isn't that what being a maverick is all about?

In a few weeks we will make a choice that will decide our future.
I follow a economist named bob proctor who has called the top and bottom of every market crash since the 70s correctly.
He perfectly predicted the current real estate market meltdown ,and the picture he paints about what will happen in the next couple years
Is terrifying. He thinks it could get worse then the great depression.
Banks in the US are going under one after the other. Country wide the largest morgage bank in the world
Bear Stearns and Lehman brothers , and Merrill Lynch which are 3 out of the top 5 wall street firms.
And now Fanny and Freddy which hold 50 percent of the home loans in the United States.
The goverment took them over because they are essentially bankrupt.
If they didn't the entire financially system would virtually shut down, the stock market would crash
And we would suffer beyond what any of us have seen before
The future of these companies will fall into the hands of our next president
Lehman, Merill Lynch, and Bear Sterns have survived for over 150 years and survived even the great depression
They are important because the are the biggest engines of growth in america and
they are connected to almost everything.
The last time the real estate market numbers looked this bad was during
The great depression and real estate often leads the way into major economic recessions.
Bush just like Mcain doesn't understand the economy.
That not just my opinion its his own words. Not only does he not understand how to fix itHe does not understand exactly what is broken. Its no surprise that he doesnt. The people that make up these securities use complex math models very few people understand. They are basically bundles of thousand of loans some good and some bad that are then given rules based on complex math. It will take the best and brightest minds in the world to get us out of this, and the same things bush and mcain have done for the last 8 years
Have not worked so far and wont work in the future.
if you do what you have always done then you will do get what you have always got
90 percent of the time they have voted the same.
Please don't just take my word for it Start to read up on some of this yourself. MSN money, elliot wave and, bloomberg Have tons of articles That prove we are in the heading into one of the worst economies any one has ever seen. So why are the polls even close then ?
The chairman of mcains campaign recently said that people don't vote on issues
they vote on a personality composite which means. He is trying to sell personality instead of results. He believes people will vote against there own self interests.
Lets teach him we are smarter then that and elect the ticket that can
bring us back from the brink of a economic abyss.Mcain admits in the year 2008 he cannot use a computer even to send email. It impossible then that he understands how to help us. its time to wake up now while it will still help

Listening to McCain today charging that he will fire Chris Cox and bumbling his way through a not bad plan for the subprime mortages, I'm really concerned about McCain's competence to run the government. Is there a shadow government behind McCain. He doesn't teally seem himself. I don't pay that much attention to the Republicans so I was surprised at his difficulty in deliverying today's speech.
