America has lost supportof the world??? Since when did America EVER have support of the world?Afghanistan? Iraq? No, people were more than satisfied to say "I want no part of this" because I have not been affected by it, allow these thugs and criminals to continue destroying their people as long as I'm not affected. America's perception abroad by a bunch of cowards is the least of our problems. And your laughable claims of war profit and oil? Oil costs more now than ever, and the war has cost billions. Lets admit the truth and that is that Saddam Hussein refused to allow inspectors to do their jobs. So we kicked the door in and allowed our inspectors to look wherever they wanted. Saddam shouldve just let the inspectors in and he'd still be alive instead of hanged as a murderer. And as far as Palin is concerned you're taking the statement too literally, she was eluding to those fighting under the umbrella of Muslim extremism not somebody from a specific country but those fighting for an ideal. If you can call it that.

Why should this come as a surprise?
The expansion of Al Qaeda was both predictable and predicted,
To make matters worse America has lost the support of the world in turning a blind eye and invading a country for oil and war profits.
But the real failure is in fermenting fear and hatred in the Islamic counties, particularly in the Middle East, if someone fears and hates you he becomes your enemy.

and to call someone a fool and claim they "let Osama escape... to use as a boogeyman to win elections"? I think you're calling the wrong person a fool if you believe they "let Osama escape". Statements like this lend a doubt of credibility to the anti war crowd in general and the Democratic party in particular. And you wonder why McCain and Obama are neck and neck?

There is a very strong likely hood Osama was "allowed to escape"
Had Osama been killed or captured the war in Iraq would never have happened, He was the boogy man that kept the emotional responce necessary to garner support for what is Bush's primary goal.
The GOP propaganda was so effective some 35% of Americans still believe Iraq had something to do with 9/11.
One of them apparently is Sarah Palin judging from the speach she gave to departing Alaskan troops bound for Iraq just a week ago, since she told them theywere going to fight those who had attacked us..
      And that is not Iraq..

Najood Ali is from Yemen. She's the 10 year old divorcee. Her husband was 30. Islam allows a girl to be married at 8 or 9. The religion's founder Mohammed had a 9 year old wife "Aisha"; said to be his favorite. Nice people...nice religion..nice country..Yemen.

I can care less about the American perception abroad. In my view what I see is a world that has no problem allowing women to be treated as nothing more than property, allowing governments to suppress the freedoms of the citizens of their countries, allow governments push violent religious views and hatred for those of differing religions, governments unwilling to help countries in chaos in Africa and the Middle East to protect the average citizen. At the very least America is the one shouldering the burden of bringing the 21st century (i.e. rights and civil liberties) to the Middle East and to countries still with the mind set of the 7th century. If people around the world think badly of Americans while they sit by idly and pretend everything is ok in the world, then please dislike America and it's values. Furthermore, it seems that everyone has forgotten the original reason for the invasion of Iraq was that Saddam Hussein refused to allow the U.N. inspectors to do their jobs in Iraq. He had nothing to hide? Then he should have allowed the inspectors to do their job, and none of this would have happened. We served a warrant and he wanted to fight it out. You can thank your boy Clinton for allowing the inspectors to be kicked out by the way, it happened under his watch, just like the other terrorist attacks by Al-Qaeda leading up to 9-11. Thanks a ton Bill great job.

The reporter is stating facts. I happened to peruse the newspapers around the world i went though the Yemen papers. From what i have observed, Yemen is most certainly an enemy of the Bush interests in the area. i sensed support for Bin Laden as well. I definitely against the Iraq war, and think it was immoral and unlawful. But Americans in Yemen, beware.

Great article Michael and Mark. This new attack in Yemen just proves that putting all of our troops into Iraq was the biggest mistake in the administration's phony war on terror. We should never have let Osama escape from Tora Bora but some fool thought it was more imprtant to have him around to use as a boogeyman to win elections rather than in meting out proper justice to the man who masterminded the 9/11 attacks.

The point is, it happened. Yes, six of the dead were terrorist, but that they managed to kill themselves is considered generally as a sign they completed their mission. And as for the lack of American casualties: since when are the lives of Yemenis less valuable than ours? Dead is dead, no matter your nationality, and taking such a cavalier attitude towards it does contribute to America's poor reputation abroad.

What a bogus article! Claims of failure in the war on terror. Six of the 16 dead are the terrorists themselves and not one american casualty!! NOT ONE!! Yet, this attack is portrayed as a sign we're failing in the war on terror. No wonder the MSM has such low credibility. Incredible...

The very titles of this article just sounds like a justification for being in Iraq in the first place. Next they will try linking the insurgents in Iraq with the tainted baby formula in China.

I guess the guys who did this have not heard that Islam is the religion of peace. Someone from the US should inform the Yemenis about their religion as apparently they don't understand their religion correctly.

    Having seen stragi in Afghanistan
    and iraq Alqaeda and talbab
    has changed a track.

    In fact ,
they want to divert the attention of leaders
    busy in war of terror
busy in digging out the root of insurgency.

    Yamen is their first target
they took lives of innocent people,
    they destroyed property
    as their principle says

    Some time i feel,
as they have decided to ignite
    to whole world
    Raw

Al Qaida or Taliban are not behind every attack against the US or it's allies, The US was very succefull in creating a strong anti American sentiment especially in the middle east and the Muslim world, this sentiment will not change unless the US change it's policy to ward the area.

  • Posted By: keifek @ 09/18/2008 12:30:43 AM

Before the invasion of Iraq, not a single Al Qaida member was in Iraq. The Failed policy of the current US administration invited al Qaida to Iraq, most important, it trasfered millions of Arabs and muslim from supportive of the US to arch enemey because of it's agrresion and fake democratic claims, It's completly wrong to assume that Al Qaida is behind every attack against the US. If 2/3 of US population against the Iraq war, Imagine what's the percentage between the Arab and Muslim against the war and the agression of the US.
the resistence to the US occupation will out last this adminstration and unless the US correct it's course in the area, there will be more tragic events in the future.

Al Qaeda this Alqaeda that. The Bush administration, and most of the media want to put this brand on every act of "Terrorism". Few want to discuss the reality that there are perhaps hundreds of different grou[ps and thousands fo individuals who would like to take a shot at any American any time anywhere. They possibly think the folks down on the farm can't get their minds around anything so complex. Too, there's the possibility that the Goverment and the media can't get their minds around the fact either. A recent article covered the fact that the Courts of other countries who used to refer to American court cases for precident and rulings aren't doing it nearly as often as they did BB (before bush) and after our new attitude about what's legal in terms of arrests, interrogations and renditional detentions. Our behavior will no doubt brign even more Anti-American sentiment directed at us violently.,
