At the Very Least some HUGE concessions need to be made by these banks to get any help at all from "the govenment". That money isn't coming from a magic box, it's coming from US, THE PEOPLE. I personally don't even want to contribute to these bail outs. I don't use credit, I own my house and car free and clear, and I don't feel that I should be penalized for their greed. Let them burn.

Right! Anarchy may be around the corner if this 700 billion bailout is approved.

The recent bailouts AREN"T doing any better. The new head of Freddie Mac is to receive $900,000/year salary. This is a company you and I own folks and our government just gave this guy 900 grand saying that its 25% less than the last crook!
    Boot them all out!!!

No Bailout No way. The housing market is not going to get better. It is going to get much worse.
The difference we will be 1 trillion dollars in debt on top of the Iraq War debt. Giving the people that are responsible for this issue more money is totally ripping off the American people even more. It will not create new jobs ease inflation make medical care or education more affordable. People are worried about their 401k's they should worry where they are going to live when they get kicked to the curb or can't heat their homes this winter or put food on the table. The American people are sick and tired of being taxed for greed of people that don't even need the money. This is an outrage how dare they just make this shotty bailout plan without taking the vote of the people. People are trying and contacting their reps, senators, congressmen and presidential candidates in protest of this bill yet they continue to ignore the voters the American Public. Stop holding the people hostage to the greed. Use a fraction of this debt to invest in America like alternate energy and fuel, health care, education and jobs for Americans enough is more than enough check out the online petition and sign against the bailout bill. You say you want change well change it contact your reps, senators, congress. The website is already set up take action for change.

when there is a profit to be had...it's private......................if there is a loss it's a social problem .................let the middle class pay for government and big business...because the government is the biggest business in this country...hail to the thief

  • Posted By: ambershug @ 09/25/2008 5:58:16 PM

I totally disagree with the bailout.....when the middle class has to file bankruptcy due to the gas prices, increasing cost on groceries, utilities, and increasing percentage rates on loans, not to mention that they may even be laid off or fired, you don't see the government bailing us out. Once again, the upper class (CEO's and whoever else doesn't sweat for a living) get a slap on the wrist where the regular everyday person would be penalized. I don't care what anyone says, neither one of our presidential candidates will make a difference it they are elected to office. If any of you think they will, you're crazy. Your just feeding into the typical song and dance every presidential candidate gives....and not one of them or their peers have followed through. Our country has become a far cry from what our forefathers ever envisioned it to be.

  • Posted By: shawcar @ 09/25/2008 4:04:35 PM

GREED!!! Whether it be CEO'S or MIDDLE INCOME (pushers; like myself) asking for a bailout of ones own greed sickens me. Credit cards 90 days past due, homes that you can't afford 90 days past due, running companies into the ground and requesting a bailout...it is all the same. When our friends were keeping up with the Jones' we were still in our first home. When our friends were buying new cars, we were driving cars that were paid off. When our friends were going on vactions to Hawaii we were camping. It shouldn'g be a surpise to anyone who is loosing there home, they gambled and lost. Now they should have to pay the price. I for one don't want any of my tax dollars going to bailout ANYONE. NOT WALL STREET AND NOT THE GREEDY AMERICAN WHO LIVES BEYOND THEIR MEANS! There is accountablity that we all should have. Contrary to what I have seen in the last few years, it is very possible to live your american dream. Not the dream you wish you had, the dream you can afford.

    • Posted By: ambershug @ 09/25/2008 5:45:14 PM

I totally agree with you! My husband and I have a home we are paying on, one vehicle that is paid off and another close to it. We have 3 kids, and yes, we both work. AND WE HAVE NOT ONE CREDIT CARD. If we don't have cash , we just don't get it . I don't understand how some have tens of thousands of dollars of credit card debt!! Did you really need something that badly that your willing to spend the amount of the purchase AND the interest that is tacked on? You're part of the problem.

so how do we stop it? I have a saying, a spotted dog is a spotted dog. We elect people who we think will do the best job they can. We have been taken to the cleaners and we have no one responsible for it by us.
we keep electing and sending people to washington who promise change and it is the same old bull.
I agree, that living within your means is the right way to do your business, but we are a greedy group here in american, got help us if china forecloses on this country, they own us. My friend stated, : that this country could never be occupied by a foreign force, china can do that with their 300 million man army, I wonder what it is going to be like living under china rule. Remember what happen to Rome, corruption and greed destroyed them and the same thing is going to happen to us

      • Posted By: shawcar @ 09/25/2008 4:46:21 PM

I think it might be to late to stop it. I hope not but as you stated China owns us! As Americans we need to look at how our Grandparents did business. You pay with cash! (not that the dollar is worth crap) You work hard and buy what you can afford. Don't gamble with your family's future, be responsible for the decisions you make in your life (good and bad). Our own government doesn't believe that this is the way to do things. They are so far beyond their means that it may be impossible to fix! I don't think it is any one person's fault that we are in this spot. It is the fault of all of those who wanted the big life on the small salary. It starts with us. I DON'T WANT A DIME OF BAILOUT GOING TO ANYONE but at this point do we have a choice?

If the company loses money, no officer of the company should receive a "parachute"!!! They were paid well while the company sank, probably overpaid; there should be NO bonus of anykind. These Golden Parachutes are just the same as stealing money from the company and thereby the stockholders! An executive's salary should not exceed 2million. All over 2 million should be taxed at 98%.

  • Posted By: phember @ 09/25/2008 5:43:00 PM

Since the American people will have to foot the bill for this, the American people, who can't pay their mortgages, etc, should be given this money to bring their loans current. This would help the business by bringing in funds. And since we have to pay for this anyway, we should reap the benefits, not the scoundrels who have ripped off customers by helping them get into loans/contracts that the businesses knew the customer would not be able to pay.

Where do you think all of those people that were involved in the dot-com fiasco went to? Banking and finance! They now want to be assured that they will get those 'golden parachutes' that they negotiated in their contracts. Congress wants to assure stable financial institutions that their CEO's will not lose their 'golden parachutes'. They blame this on home-buyers that did not understand what they were getting into, but these were the people in charge. They were the ones that created those lending instruments. Now they are not responsible? Anyone, including Frank, Obama, Clinton etc. that received money from Fannie Mae or Freddie Mac should return the money they received. It may be a small drop in a very large bucket, but it would at least show some responsiblity.....

  • Posted By: Nightowl22 @ 09/25/2008 5:34:07 PM

If the company loses money under the officers, none should receive a dime!! They were paid well while they lost monies, that's enough. The golden parachute is the same as stealing from the stockholders!!!

I echo many of baronbee's sentiments save for one idealistic indulgence:

WE are no longer the elector of the office...it's all lobbyists, and until they are outlawed or
made to be transparent ( as proposed by Oblack I blameya and others), we won't be able to reign in nor punish the perpetrators.

It's funny. The American people will do noyjing about this. They will vote for the same people that signed this Bill and continue to eat fish and rabbit. I wish we could bring back the 50's. Democracy is dead. It doesn't appear God is blessing Ameroca anymore. I wonder why.

    • Posted By: mead @ 09/25/2008 5:30:37 PM

This country is a Republic, not a Democracy. Read the constitution. Read. Read. Read. and LEARN. Thinking our form of government is a democracy is one of the greatest dangers we face. We have representatives. If they don't represent me/you. Get Involved! Get someone in there who does. One of the greatest gifts we have is REGULARLY scheduled elections. We all know when representatives (Senators and Legislators) will be up for election (no term limits needed). We are responsible for the government; We must take charge, both of our own lives and for our government. If we don't WE lose. Did any of us contact our representatives and tell them if they vote for this onerous bailout we will vigorously campaign against them in the next election? The founders entrusted US with this magnificent miracle of the United States. Are we living up to that trust? I don't think so.

      Dumplin,
All Americans should be able to own their own home. I love Clinton and her was rigth by say what he did. It these companys fault for allowing peoplr to purchase the homes and get funding for them without checking to see if they were qualified. They just kept excepting everyone with a thought in their mind as to what might happen.. It not all their falut but id have to say 90% Them and 10% Ours.

      • Posted By: shawcar @ 09/25/2008 4:35:13 PM

Are you kidding me? 90% their fault! YOU ARE ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE DECISIONS YOU MAKE IN YOUR LIFE! You are the only one who knows what you can REALLY afford. If you can't afford it, DON'T BUY IT! Simple really. It is 100% your fault that you purchased a home with a loan that was risky. Quit blamming others for your mistakes, learn from them .

I don't pretend to know whether the economy absolutely needs this bailout, or if it is another scam by Bush and his cronies to shore up the Economy long enough so that at a later date they can point their fingers at Democrats. Nonetheless, the idea of executive compensation is absolutley ludicrous. Evidently some CEOs have considered not cooperating with the bailout measures contingent on how fat their wallet would become after the bailout took place. These CEOs whoever they are should sit in prison for such an affront to the American people. Our Senators and Congressman/women are asking themselves what executive compensation should be capped at, when they should be asking why these men and women deserve heaps of money for the mistakes that were made under their watch. The only party not involved in these negotiations is the American tax payer, and our future generations that will someday have to shoulder the burden of our National Debt, not that seemingly any of the knucklehead cracked out vagabonds on Capitol Hill would understand that. Our legislators have forgotten how they ended up on Capitol Hill in the first place, US. They are so detached from reality that they seek to govern in the way they best see fit right or wrong, when they should be governing on our behalf, carrying out OUR will. We need to expunge the majority of them from their seats in House & Senate (the idiot sitting in the oval office as well), and overhaul the entire system.

where did most of those people go from the dot-com fiasco? Investment and finance! Just another case of the rich getting richer. I know that I am responsible for the debts that I incur, but these people seem to claim they are not responsible and deserve the golden parachutes they negotiated in their contracts. Can the gov't give me a couple of hundred grand? I probably could do better than those monkeys that wear suits.
