Here's some fuel for the fire: George Will opined in a column today that McCain lacks the appropriate termperament to make careful decisions.

You know, they say the batteground states select the president. We have had 8 years of bad decisions by people who keep making the same BAD decisions and now look at where we are. The same dumb people, please keep making the same bad decisions. Hatred and ignorance always keeps you from moving forward. Please continue to pick the same REP for the rich only party because it's only for one reason, RACISM and just admit it and stop with these dumb statements. This is a serious job. Pick McCain and see if your children will even have a future after we go to WAR.

As another Newsweek Chauvin for Obama, Howard informs us that the glorious second coming sees all knows all, and will cure all. It would nice if you were correct Howard, but you're too intoxicated on Obama's snake oil oratory.

It is not the end of the world no matter how much OBama might want it to be. The hopester has been preaching gloom and disaster. Why? If he could scare people into a run on the banks he would creat the disaster he has been preaching and be a shoo in for president. I agree with you, Obama is a cold calculating Machiavelli type who wants to be prince. all the more reason not to vote him in.

And I'm glad the Obama camp is taking a serious, thoughtful approach to this crisis. I feel safer and more comfortable already.

With McCain and his running mate taking great pains to distract everyon with entertainment and economic plans that could "fit on the back of a box of cereal," as one pundit put it today, it just underscores how farcical their entire campaign has become. But I'm not complaining - Obama will have that much more opportunity to put them far behind him by election day.

And we will finally, after all these years, have an intelligent, thinking person back in the White House again., And a strong VP along with him, who could easily and confidentaly take the reins should anything, God forbid, happen to Obama. And we all know what kooks we've got in our own population - our own homegrown terrorists, KKK and white supremists...all out there probably thriving during the last eight years under Bush. Ugh.

It's clear that if Obama wins, and he truly is the only viable candidate in this terrible time (McCain is too dumb, doesn't know more than an 8-year old about economics), he will have to shift his plans and put off major social welfare programs like healthcare, which is probably the next thing to go after the credit markets get through their crisis....especially if the Paulson thing doesn't work - in fact, it will be a totoal global economic meltdown of proportions never before seen.

Anyone voting for a Republican after this fiasco, exacerbated by Bush Jr, whose daddy' had the S&L crisis on HIS watch, is sadly underinformed, misguided or just blind. The GOP has been primarily responsible for this mess - even if it started under Clinton, the GOP was too busy trying to catch him out in a sex scandal to worry much about oversight. And Clinton's economic policies were fairly centrist, from the sounds of it, and even somewhat to the right of center - so he was only going with the flow of the GOP majority in Congress, I'm sure.

And enter Palin, a total and complete nincompoop whose addition to the race makes a laughingstock of the American elecctions; this looks like a plot from a popular comedy or sitcom - l'il Gal from Alaska picked to be VP and knows absolutely nothing about it, but is sure popular and cute so the masses of morons come out and vote for her.

The GOP candidates are farcical, particularly in this week's sobering turn of events.

    1. Yes, Obama has no emotional heat in his speeches. People, most often, do not respond to the essence they respond to the emotional heat. Look at the meetings from National Conventions down to the smallest - people react positively to the strongest emotions even the essence may be pure garbage.
    2. Yes, Obama campaign's people do not respond to any e-mail, however it may be for the candidate - they only need MONEY!

I have received 3 responses from Obama's campaign and they did not ask for money!

Even Fineman seems a bit on edge. His guy Obama is primed and ready to give us More of Pelosi/Reid plans, condemnations and hate of Republicans, conservatives, clingers, and middle America. Anyone who believes Obama's promises of govt-mandated utopia should be considered fools, especially in light of the Mac/Fay debacle-created, nurtured, and protected by the same folks who support Obama, Democrats. You want more of the same but More of it, vote for ObamaShow

The Democrats want to beat McCaint, but they are playing the same game. We all know the Dems and the Neo-CONartists Republicans are basically the same. How can politicians tell us there is no money for S.S. but then bail out insurance companies with $85billion dollars?! You want to save our economy? Stop sending money and troops to Both Iraq AND Afghanistan! We dont need EITHER of those wars! They are costing America an insane amount of Money! Thats why our economy is falling fast! You cant compare the Dems to RFK, RFK was for the people, RFK supported Nader, and the Black Panther Party for Self Defense, thats why they killed him! Our only HOPE in this nation is to break the 2 party duopoly and to elect a THIRD Party Candidate! And we have 4 to choose from. Well thought out articles like this is the primary reason I read and listen to Howard Fineman. Political analysis and reporting does not get much better than this. Let me share something here with you dear Americans:

Let me see if I have this straight.....

    * If you grow up in Hawaii, raised by your grandparents, you're "exotic, different."

    * Grow up in Alaska eating mooseburgers, a quintessential American story.

    > > * If your name is Barack you're a radical, unpatriotic Muslim.
    > > * Name your kids Willow, Trig and Track, you're a maverick.
    > >
    > > * Graduate from Harvard law School and you are unstable.
    > > * Attend 6 different small colleges in 7 years before graduating, you're well
    grounded.
    > >
    > > * If you spend 3 years as a brilliant community organizer, become the
first black President of the Harvard Law Review, create a voter registration
drive that registers 150,000 new voters, spend 12 years as a Constitutional Law
professor, spend 8 years as a State Senator representing a district with
over 750,000 people, become chairman of the state Senate's Health and
Human Services committee, spend 4 years in the United States Senate
representing a state of 13 million people while sponsoring 131 bills and serving on the
Foreign Affairs, Environment and Public Works and Veteran's Affairs
committees, you don't have any real leadership experience.

If your total resume is: local weather girl, 4 years on the city council
and 6 years as the mayor of a town with less than 7,000 people, 20
months as the governor of a state with only 650,000 people, then you're qualified
to become the country's second highest ranking executive.

If you have been married to the same woman for 19 years while raising
2 beautiful daughters, all within Protestant churches, you're not a real Christian.

you cheated on your first wife with a rich heiress, and left your disfigured wife and married the heiress the next month, you're a Christian.

If you teach responsible, age appropriate sex education, including the
proper use of birth control, you are eroding the fiber of society.

If , while governor, you staunchly advocate abstinence only, with no
other option in sex education in your state's school system while your unwed
teen daughter ends up pregnant , you're very responsibe.
    > >
    > > * If your wife is a Harvard graduate lawyer who gave up a position in a
    > > prestigious law firm to work for the betterment of her inner city
community, then gave that up to raise a family, your family's values don't
    represent America's.

If you're husband is nicknamed "First Dude", with at least one DWI conviction and no college education, who didn't register to vote until age 25 and once was a member of a group that advocated the secession of
Alaska from the USA, your family is extremely admirable.

    OK, much clearer now.

"The next big wave" as Fineman puts it will be OF RED INK, and will hit every one of us at the tune of 1.5 Trillion Dollars of bailouts. Is the kind of "wave" that will put our Economy under for the next few years.
The fact is that our Federal Government simply does not have 1.5 Trillion Dollar just sitting there to be used by Prima Donna's in distress.
Now then, Since our creditors are in no mood to lend us much more than advice, and commiseration (that's what happens when Wall Street turns into "The Strip" At Vegas), we will have no choice but to turn on the printing press and just make more U.S. Dollars. As a result we will have high inflation (Our Dollar devalues) , combined with a recession, or in technical terms a Stagflation. This unfortunate event will add even more strain on our Financial System (and believe me that's the last thing our Financial system needs now), in turn that will send the problems into "Main Street".

In the end we can run but we can't hide . The fact is that for too long we have lived beyond our means as individuals, as Corporate entities, and as a Country . Sometimes countries get lucky and at least get themselves good leaders that ease the collapse . Leaders that ask for sacrifices and make sacrifices and in return give us back a hard earned prosperity. But there is no such luck in our case. In our case what we have is a never ending parade of demagoges cutting taxes, raising spending, sending IOU's to every one in the world, and now looking like collective idiots that don't even understand the financial products they created or the regulations that were supposed to be enacted . So do not be surprised if they lost the credibility of the world. In the face of the clowns we have elected to the halls of power, and to the boards of Corporate America, .

After all even in the face of current events our Economic plan sounds like this; We will trow 1.5 Trillion Dollars to the trash , then we spend 3 Trillion paying for a war of choice where we got nothing in return other that hot air and a few oil contracts for Exxon , then we cut our taxes, then we spend more on Defense making a few new Carrier Battle groups to go after Osama in the mountains of Pakistan, and then we cut our taxes some more while we create a few new Governent Agencies with nice names like "Department for Bailouts and Crook Asistance". All these we patriotically do because you stand with us or against us..... Just don't stand under us because the bridge is about to collapse of neglect. But Hey !! Who needs bridges anyway swim across is more fun !!

So if I was Obama I would learn to hold my breath for a long, long time for if he is unfortunate enough to win, he will catch the Red Tzunami, and as every surfer will tell you that's the kind of wave you either let go, or die trying to ride it.

Be careful what you wish Obama. Hilllary might be feeling a bit better just about now.

Oops--typo in the last sentences of my earlier comment - here is what it should have said. Sorry!!! I think faster than I type!!

McCain CANT think off the cuff with out going a little off either in temperment or topic. So before we all throw in the towel because Obama hasn't dipped to the Rovian tactics of the Republican campaign, lets us wait it out until then. November 4 is only what 45 days away!

  • Posted By: Bethany724 @ 09/20/2008 2:14:48 PM

Everyone just needs to calm down!!! The polls show that we are back to the before convention numbers, with a few exceptions. The economic crisis unfortunately, has come at a time when the first debate is 5 days away. Now, if we nit pick and try to point the finger, it could go back as far as the 90's to the "clinton years". However, those years showed a steady stream of prosperity, even if the fat cats did take advantage. It was only after Bush was selected and he immediately bankrupted the federal surplus and then Cheney and his cronnies had their secret little meeting over energy (dont get me started!!), then McCain and Gramm came along and totally radically deregulated everything, that the proverbial defication hit the oscillating device!!!! So dont tell me OBAMA is a RISK. This man at least is steady in his thought. He does not go off half-cocked and fire just anyone. He has spoken with the main principals (republicans appointed ones!) in the economic forefront and will have more of a grasp on his proposed strategy, than McCain could ever hope to have.

The polls will continue to slip up and down for both parties until the debates. And while I beleive that neither candidate are exactly advantaged for them, I beleive given that there will be a structure to them we shall see that Obama will not only hold his own, he will show that he has ideas needed to get this country out of the quagmire that the last 8 years have gotten us in. McCain can think off the cuff with out going a little off either in temperment or topic. So before we all throw in the towel because Obama hasn't dipped to the Rovian tactics of the Republican campaign, lets us wait it out until then. November 4 is only what 45 days away!

    GO OBAMA/BIDEN 08

CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN????......and this ain't chump change either...more on the bought and paid for mohammed messiah.........

Compare the money Barack has raised from lobbyists with that McCain has snagged. Obama received a grand total (per Open Secrets) of $1,223,737.00 from Fannie Mae, Freddic Mac, Lehman Brothers, AIG, and Bear Stearns while John McCain received only $258,075.00.

John McCain $6,550((Fannie Mae) $9,100 (Freddie Mac) $117,500 (Lehman Bros.) $36,875 (AIG) and $88,050 (Bear Stearns)

Barack Obama $137,950 (Fannie Mae) $68,750 (Freddie Mac) $370,524 (Lehman Bros.) $75,899 (AIG) and $570,614 (Bear Stearns)

Hussein Obama is a CROOK and a FRAUD. Wonder what that $30,000 steak tasted like?

    NOBAMA!!!

thank you for this article. as a 33-yr-old committed democrat all my life, i find the reactions of many "top" democrats in the party this election infuriating and exactly what has plagued this party for so long. they are always second-guessing, doubting, and questioning the party itself to the point of self-defeat. we have selected obama; he is running a great campaign; there are a thousand reasons why the polls are what they are; none have to do with the campaign he is running. try: endemic racism; die-hard clinton supporters; fear of change in troubling times. instead of whining and doubting and feeding republican fires, these leading democrats should "put on a happy face" and get out there 100% behind obama, because that's how elections are won. i also worked in marketing and any marketer will tell you, you need a consistent message and people want to vote for a winner. portraying obama as a "loser" in any way just sends voters to the other side.
