Hey, I'm in love with my shadow! Now I want benefits, grants, healthcare, and a handicapped sticker to park near the front of the store. Oh, and it isn't sexual at all!

I believe this article is more about the care of people than it is about being gay. Lets talk about the respect of taking care of people who are getting older rather than calling each other out with names and religious views.
Would you want any elderly person to loose their home or lively hood. No! How can we as a nation founded on the idea of freedom be this cruel by dening any one some basic rights. Be proud America, Be kind and put your hate away and learn what freedom really means.

I must interject that the only choice I ever made was to live my truth and not something society forced on me. I mean, where are you people from? I don't understand this type of hatred, I thought this country was somewhat coming out of the dark ages into the age of reason. Think on it, would you harbor ill will towards your grandmother or grandfather because they were gay? I mean really what is happening to us when there is no compassion in this country except for people that agree with what you beleive in?

nrussell - You're not making anysense. They're just asking for the "gifts" that heterosexuals basically receive. They're not feeling some high sense of entitlement, they just want to be able to leave this world with the same benefits a heterosexual would have.

In Ms Bennett's article, she claims that gays have to go through extra legal steps but that's simply not true. The financial planning and steps are the same for married, 2nd marriage and other types of non-traditional families, with many similarities and very few differences. I have a number of gay and lesbian clients with whom I work. The key is finding someone who knows what they are doing. Try a CFP in your area www.plannersearch.org -- Chuck Newton Pres, UT Chap, Financial Planning Assoc

Not true. What about social security benefits, survivors' benefits, and pension plans? What happens when a loved one is incapable of making medical decisions? Can a gay person cover his/her partner through his/her medical insurance? This, of course, is not an exhaustive list of questions. Trust me, there are many more.

      • Posted By: Financial Strategies @ 09/18/2008 4:07:27 PM

Find a CFP in your area who will walk you through this. But in short, one can name anyone to a survivor's benefit or to receive the distribuiton on a pension plan. As for medical decisions, most states have a Medical Power of Attorney provision which allows you to appoint an agent (anyone) to make Healthcare decisions for you. This HPOA is more powerful than a Living Will. As for partner benefits on medical insurance - some insurance companies have come out (pardon the pun) for relationship plans. Separately, they can be covered on an HSA - which to me is more desireable since unused money rolls into an IRA at your retirement.

What is the stupidest post I've read yet, NRussel.
    Re-read the article.
It's not about giving "gay's any special gifts from the government."
    It's about equality.
A gay man does not deserve anything more or less than a straight man.
Could you pick up a gay man out of a line up of ten guys?
Is there something ridiculously different about gays?

I never said that. You made that up to confuse the issue. I said the original purpose was to procreate. Since sin came into the world, it changed. Any man and woman can marry anytime they want with Gods blessing.

    • Posted By: sffilk @ 09/18/2008 4:06:57 PM

but should a man marry a woman if he is not in love with a woman, but a man? should he live a lie?

Coming from a lesbian..."If God does not love me..then why does he answer my prayers"? Can someone answer my question?

    • Posted By: nonsheep @ 09/18/2008 3:59:37 PM

BECAUSE OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST LOVES ALL OF US :)

      • Posted By: Bigredmachine @ 09/18/2008 4:06:53 PM

Thank you nonsheep...that is what i believe also

      LMAO YOU IGNORANT CUSS

    • Posted By: mike3778 @ 09/18/2008 3:54:58 PM

It's not God answering your prayers, it's the power of Satan. Satan has been given authority over this world and you are a pawn. Sin wouldn't be sin if it wasn't so enjoyable and satisfying. God allows all this so that we can say we had the freewill to accept Christ as our Savior and NOT made to accept against our will.

Hey shortjames, I'm a Christian and I think this situation is tragic and I hope the government starts recognizing gay partnerships ASAP.

You say conjur as if you're talking about witchcraft.
Last time I checked, in American society, witchcraft ended in the wrongful killing of dozens of Puritans. Men and women who put your silly Christian devotion to shame.

Love is love, isn't it? It's emotional and mental. Not just physical.
You're assuming that all homosexuals seem to strictly be homosexual because of sex. Gays can't.... LOVE... each other?

    Homosexuality is about love.
Heterosexuality is about common law, religion, and crazy Christians shoving their beliefs down everyone's throats.
Let's put it into perspective again.
Christianity is not the dominant religion in the world.

This is not true in the lesbian culture but in the gay male culture their exist a culture of promiscuity and pervertedness beyond what anyone can imagine. Gay males are "directly" responsible for the world's AIDS crisis. Many innocent people died in the 80's from tainted blood transfusions related to gay males giving blood. Even some of our vaccines, specifically Hepatitis B immune globulin and the Heptavax from the 80's caused a small amount of people to contract AIDS. Gay male have the highest incidence, per capita, of STD's in America with AIDS, lymphogranuloma venereum and genital herpes leading the list. They also have a high rate of condyloma (warts) and a recent outbreak of syphilis was in a gay male group. I used to teach AIDS awareness and some of my student mentioned of having sex 20-30 times a night with total strangers. Despite all these dangers the homosexual male population still engages in high risk behaviors although there is a increase in monogamy because many are forced to or they will eventually become HIV positive. Despite all the studies and publications that are available God forbid one say anything negative against the homosexual community. I personally sympathize but do not understand the behavior therefore even though it has not been proved I believe it to be of a genetypical response of some sort. I have interviewed males and females and certainly believe they do not choose the lifestyle although many "do" choose it as part of an open sex or swinging community. This is quite dangersous as it puts everyone else at risk. It is very sad to say but anyone who chooses to have unprotected sex with someone who has not been tested or you are in a monogamous relationship (still risky) you are essentially playing russian roulette .

    DISGUSTING!!!!
Now public exhibitions of perverted behavior are being shoved in our face.

You've got to be kidding me! Have you never watched televsion, seen a movie, read a contemporary crime novel, or visited the internet? Adultry, infidelity, wife swapping, child sexual molestation, rape, teenage pregnancy, domestic violence---oh I forgot, if it is done by straight people, then it isn't wrong according to the Bible. If my partner and I had public displays of affection like you men and women do, we would be kicked out of restauarants, theaters, off the street!. So....if you want to quote the Bible, you had better be pointing the finger at ALL sin and not just the ones you don't commit! Besides, this article was about old folks simply asking to be treated with respect and dignity. There's nothing 'special' about that, unless of course you're a bigot who refuses to respect anyone unless they are just like you.

    • Posted By: chickysgirl @ 09/18/2008 3:32:19 PM

You must be kidding me! Have you never watched television, read a contemporary crime book, been to the movies? You think we are just now seeing perversion--look again. Oh, I forgot its ok to have teenage sex flaunted in our faces, rape on television, adultry, children being sexually molested---as long as its straight folks doing the deed right??? This is silly---the article was about old folks not having normal human rights and not being treated with respect because of who they love. It has nothing to do with special rights, just plain and simple human dignity. ,

There are many senior citizens I respect -- I don't know if they are gay or heterosexual. They don't make their sex life or orientation the focal point of their character. Let's go back to the phrase, "Don't ask and don't tell." The sooner we make personal traits (like honesty, loyalty, work ethic, kindness, etc.) the focus of our personal respectability the better off we will be as a society.

    • Posted By: sunsandandrocks @ 09/18/2008 3:57:15 PM

Hey Mike, don't blame your run-away-wife's sexual preference on this awful deed and ploy she used to get you to marry her! There are good and bad people in every group. You should have checked into your wife's background and those two previous marriages before you married her! Had you waited a year or two to get to know her before you married her, this may not have happened! Heterosexuals pull these "stunts" all the time, hurting people along the way. It is not because she ws gay.

No. God does not run a society.
Governments run socities. The Indians, the French, the Africans, the British, the Russians.
They've all gotten a long just fine for hundreds or thousands of years without the Christian God in their mits, agreed? The Chinese don't have the second highest population in the world, not to mention one of the longest legacies (thousands of years) of a kingdom by following God have they? Because last time I checked, China was not a Christian country.
America is supposed to be nonreligious.
    Supposed to be.
And yes, anyone hear of that old cliche: politics and religion do not mix? Funny that cliches usually have points.

    I'm a devout Catholic.
The Bible cannot be taken so literal.
    Seriously, people.

Homosexuality is a sin. Simply read the story of Lot and Sodom and Gomorah. Pro-gays can twist the facts all they want to hide their fear better after what awaits them in hell. As far as this article, I would have thought gay seniors will see 'the light' and repent before it is too late for them.

    • Posted By: nonsheep @ 09/18/2008 3:56:12 PM

I don't believe that GOD or our LORD JESUS CHRIST hates anyone. We are all GOD"S children, and he loves us all. So stop being a hater. Do you think CHRIST wants you to hate anyone? I am not gay, and don't necessarily know what would be fair for gay couples, but what I do know is that MY GOD IS A LOVING GOD. I don't know who you pray to, but I think you are confused. You can take all of the fire and brimstone crap that the Romans invented in the dark ages and stick it. GOD LOVES US ALL !!!
