Why would drvein99 have even read the article unless he (or she) is gay or a lesbian?

Becasue it's the first topic popping up. It is very ignorant to say someone is something because they read it. Are you are murderer because you read about someone who has murdered someone? No dummy!
brownsugah, you are very irate about this topic. Is there something that you want to admit and get off your chest? No, if there is a topic that is so inherently horrifying to me, then no, I would not read the article.....DUMMY!!!
Go back into the f****g closet. Who cares?
drvein99, you can come out of the closet. Those of us that are gay will respect you more for joining our community instead of hiding.
You know, this article is reporting a legitimate problem that is only going to worsen over the next 20 years. It is about honest Americans who have paid their taxes, worked hard, survived any number of catatophic events, assisted friends and neighbors, etc. In other words, these are our fellow Americans. Fools like you, drvein99, are part of the problem - ignorant boors who are not capable of reason, compassion, or intelligent discussion. You, and every one like you, needs to die out. The world will be a better place without fools like you!!
Thank you, Itcarpio. my sentiments, exactly. the people in this country who have gay/lesbian relatives and friends and the people who are gay/lesbian, young and old, CARE very much about their ability to be with who they want and when they want without discrimination. they are not second class citizens and need to be treated with dignity and respect just like i should treat you with dignity and respect even though i do not agree with your comment in any way.
very mature.. the people who have gay/lesbian relatives and friends, and the people who are gay/lesbian CARE very much. they are not second class citizens just because they are the same as you.
Sounds to me like drvein99 is in the closet himself.
Although it's indeed the case, as this article notes, that "gerontologists haven't traditionally viewed sexual orientation as relevant to their work," LGBT people and their allies in the field of aging have been organizing to change that attitude for more than 30 years. The National Association of Lesbian and Gay Gerontology, an association active in the 1970s and 1980s, held national conferences and presented programming at the annual meeting of the American Society on Aging (ASA) starting in 1975.
ASA itself launched a Task Force on Lesbian and Gay Aging in 1992; in 1994, the society established its Lesbian and Gay Aging Issues Network, a formal constituent group with a designated seat on the ASA Board of Directors. Now know as the LGBT Aging Issues Network (LAIN), this group remains very active, publishing a quarterly newsletter, organizing sessions and activities at the annual Aging in America Conference, and sponsoring a resource-rich website at www.asaging.org/lain.
The work of all these groups has been key to building the foundations of positive change for LGBT older adults. I would encourage readers who work with elders to join ASA and LAIN as the first step to connecting with the information and the professional networks they need to provide culturally competent care for LGBT older adults.
