people who choose to ride out a natural disaster, and could have left, and then have to re rescued should foot the bill. Why should I pay for their stupidity?

I think it's absolutely awful that that stupid man's dog died because he is a stubborn idiot. I have no sympathy for anyone who stayed behind as a true choice and ignored orders because they wanted to, not because they didn't have the means to follow them.

Why bother leaving? Can't you just do things the New Orleans way? Ignore all warnings, wave off rescue workers, and blame blame blame. After all, how many people are still living in free government housing from hurricane Katrina? I could careless about a dumbass who stays at home when the news broadcasts CERTAIN DEATH for people who don't evacuate. You make a decision, YOU should own up to the consequences.

Isn't it time for the Govenmnet to buy all the coastal properties instead of paying to rebuild....Ie Galveston and
turning the island and coastlines into national parks? With warming it is going to happen more and more often and will bankrupt us more than Irac and the middle east? Just a thought

My first thought in an emergency is to the ones who depend on my judgment to keep them safe. I learned that through the decades as an aviator, surfer, and long-distance ocean swimmer. Atmospheric and oceanic phenomena give, but also take away with a fury that I would never chance subjecting innocent people to, regardless of my survivalist feelings or abilities. Ego goes before a permanent fall.
