A Gloomy Vista for Microsoft

Hiring a TV star from the 1990s to fix Vista's reputation only adds to the impression that Microsoft is in a time warp.

Comment: This article is slanted. The author chooses to perpetuate the notion that harware and OS are interchangeable. A fair comparison is to understand that Apple OSX runs well only on Apple hardware, while Windows of any flavor runs well on most any hardware that will load it.

Windows, as the new campaign shows, is the workhorse of the computer world, while OSX is the choice of a specific niche user base, and by people who are bamboozled by hipster ads.

Yeah. I have a 24" iMac on my desk. It runs Vista Ultimate in bootcamp. It runs beautifully. Nice hardware. Vista+iMac=good. That's because, in the real business world, the Apple supplied OSX operating system is useless for anything but loading my iPod.

Comment: I use Vista, and am pretty satisfied. I think, it is better than Windows XP.

Comment: Not disagreeing with you at all, but your comment about the phone company reminded me about the time a few months ago when a "third-party vendor" at our local phone switching station accidentally unplugged the wrong cable. It took SIX HOURS to reboot the system. Meanwhile, our entire county, including 911 systems, all cell services, utility companies and all emergency services had absolutely no phone service at all, whatsoever.

Granted, that has only happened once in a century or so, but to answer your question (sort of): Yes, I have had to reboot to make a phone call. And it wasn't pleasant.

Isn't it ironic: Xerox is hoping it can profit by teaching companies how to reduce their printing.
