As a Sikh editorial cartoonist based here in the US, I dedicate the latest Sikhtoon to Narinder SIngh.

I also do want to commend Narinder Singh. What better way to show your faith than being patient and understanding.

In Sikh scriptures, it states all religious paths lead to God. All religions are good. It is indeed a shame when inordinate pride reduces them to tribalism.

Faith is a very private matter. If anyone asks me, I tell them it is religious requirement, and second, I like to wear it because I grew up with it. No explanation or apology is necessary. Siksh are butt of jokes in India. But they are the ones who tell me maximum jokes about themselves. It indicative of their self confidence. They are the hardest working people, full of life, gusto, passion, devotion and drive. They are held in a very high esteem. Few paranoid rascals in that sect as in any other are inducing paranoia. I think Christian evangelists have more to apologize for lying, conniving, cheating, robbing, and exploiting. Sikhs are the best of the classy people. So Narinder, you do not waste your time trying to be a bridge. It makes no difference. Let them come to you, or let them be.

Faith is very personal matter. Call it emotion, call it sentiment, call it identity, call it what you want. It needs no explanation. The Christian evangelists have most to apologize for. Most of them, like Jerry Falwell and Jimmy Swagart are proven crooks. They deceive, they exploit, they steal, they fake books, they lie. Just because they do not wear turban they are lucky. Here is something strange. The men of collar who exploited children in the churches are not hated as the innocent people with the turbans are. Sikhs are pride of India. They are butt of jokes in India, but they are very highly respected for their fierce loyalty, their devotion, passion for life and willing to do hard work. Yes, I have heard many jokes about them, but mostly from Sikhs themselves. That reflected their self assured nature, their self confidence, their strength of identity and their pride in their faith. They never deceived anyone, nor did they forcibly convert anyone to their religion. That is more than what I can say about rubbish that christianity perpetrates.

I have deep respect for Jains in India who practice universal nonviolence and strict ethical vegetarianism. India is a great Democracy with Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, Jains and Christians all trying to get along peacefully.

"Yet religious symbols don't always serve as a catalyst for truthful living. Wearing one for the sake of wearing it reduces religion to superstition."

That goes for all religions. I know a lot of people who employ the symbols of Christianity and the 'likeness' of Christ without taking their meaning to heart or mind.
