Hey Lori I'm back to do battle
Hey Lori I'm back to do battle
"You cannot blink"? That is a national policy stance? Dear God, please don't let this woman anywhere near the White House!
BEWARE of people who talk to God.
The Sunnis and Shiites talk to God, and God tells them to kill each other.
The Georgians, via the Georgian Orthodox Church, talk to God and God tells them to wipe out the inhabitants Abkhazia and South Ossetia. The Russians, via the Russian Orthodox Church, talk to God and God tells the Russians to invade Georgia. Does this make sense? And although the Russian Orthodox Church can stage demonstrations against gays in Moscow, they won't state an anti-war march or a Peace protest. Isn't Christ supposed to be the Prince of Peace?
And I could go on. The Crusades, the Inquisition, the religious wars of Northern Ireland, and Lebanon - all products of people who talk to God. Not to mention the trans-Atlantic slave trade and the genocide of native Americans.... All committed by people who talk to God.
And now Sarah Palin would have us believe that she talks to God, just like Bush. That alone should disqualify her from serving as vice president.
Where's Dan Quayle these days? He'd be a huge step up from this bible-thumping hypocrite. (Is "bible-thumping hypocrite" redundant?) It's unfathomable that she was elected governor, but Alaska is 47th in population and the least densely populated state in the union. She is completely unqualified for this job and McCain choosing her clearly shows that he is unqualified for the presidency. The fact that he has any support is a testament to the ignorance of the American bible-thumper.
I'm not sure the title of the article is appropriate. You don't need to be an atheist to agree dead-on with every word Sam Harris has written. Sarah Palin anywhere near the White House is a terrible tragedy waiting to happen. I still have faith that 50.1% of the delegates will make the right, sane choice come November. I can't let myself believe anything else.

Every condescending half-baked idea so arrogantly expressed in this grotesquely smug diatribe by Sam Harris tells you much more about its author than anything said about Sarah Palin. Most of this disgraceful and hate-filled rant so dripping with contempt, could easily have been applied to an untested Harry Truman as easily as Palin. The point that our reality-challenged and truly pathetic would-be columnist Sammy "Aluminum Foil Hat" Harris misses (over and over) is that a great leader does not need an ivy league education to possess incredibly impressive leadership instincts and superior capabilities.
I'd trust Sarah Palin to make much better decisions than the "well educated" Barack Obama with regard to nuclear proliferation, the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, the economy, climate change, Russian belligerence, the rise of China, emerging epidemics, Islamism, the United Nations, American schools, energy, infrastructure and Internet security as Sammy's simplistic empty-headed article itemizes.
In fact, it's not even a close choice. And just a reminder for Sammy "If I Only Had A Brain" Harris; Palin is actually #2 on the Republican ticket. When it comes down to who's #1 on the ticket -- McCain versus Obama -- on every last one of those listed concerns, it literally becomes laughable for those of us with fully active cognitive function as to how superior John McCain is to your highly conceited, self-important and excessively pompous lord and savior, the empty O.
For the record, I am not a particularly religious person, but the intolerance and ugly cartoon depiction of Sarah Palin simply because she has a God-based belief system that Sammy "God Is For Lunatics" Harris doesn't agree with makes him the ultimate "Ugly American."
Message to Sammy "Simpleton" Harris, maybe you shouldn't think in such black-and-white terms when it comes to people of faith, and gain a little nuance when it comes to those you don't understand and publicly belittle. The funny thing is, they happen to be smarter than you.
To elvisatemydoughnuts: Ugh.. I don't know where to start. Let's start with trying to sound intellectual while engaging in name calling of the author. Also, using the same 'in between his first and last name within quotes' style for every name you called him made you look increasingly ..well.. dumb with each name. As the post went you sit there and try to pose as an intellectual saying the choice is laughable to anyone with fully functioning blah blah. I am quite functional, thank you, and would have much preferred McCain to Bush 8 years ago, but I'm quite convinced it is no longer his time. He comes off (to some of us) as increasingly out of touch with the general public's needs the longer this campaign continues. Also, I loved his maverick attitude for years (I'm from Arizona) but that McCain is long gone, replaced with what some have called McSame. He finally fell in line with the party, got the presidential nomination that had eluded him because of his maverick reputation and with that, lost the main reason I always admired him. It was a move for power at the cost of integrity, and he couldn't have picked a worse president to fall in line with. This beauty queen, know-nothing candidate is a shameless play for the soccer mom vote, and a dangerous one at that. You think they're going to give her any power?? Really? She will be a pretty face to smile and wave if they get elected, give some speeches, nothing more. Tell me, how exactly is a woman with no real power unless McCain croaks, who knows nothing about foreign affairs or policy, is grossly inexperienced and undereducated and knows nothing of washington politics going to change anything? Unless of course McCain dies, and then our country will be run by someone completely incompetent for the position. THAT is the gamble that Mccain made, he risks having a completely incompetent leader of the free world if he should die, in order to win a campaign, because all he is trying to do (for most of his later life) is win this election, and I truly don't believe he's looked beyond that. Now do I sound...incapable of fully functional cognition to you? Please note how I'm not so unbelievably ignorant as to think that anyone who disagrees with my opinion, and my choice for this election, must be stupid.
This is hilarious. You could almost pull out the words Sarah Palin and put the words Barack Obama into nearly every reference here. Someone who gives a great speach, fans forgiving every indescretion, attends a church that most would be embarrassed to attend, no real experience. The author says Palin could not put important issues in order of relevance. It appears that he can't either. The number one issue for this election will be ECONOMY. For some reason neither party could figure that out last summer, but figured out quickly this year. Keep in mind Mr. Obama would just be some dude who ran for Senate had the Democrats not dug up a sex scandal on Ryan late in that Illinois election. Barry was way behind in the polls before Ryan had to pull out of the race. Well done.
Jesus Christ said that if you believed in Him, the world would HATE you. The way Sarah Palin is being treated proves she truly BELIEVES! May God bless Sarah and her family!
Hehe, you realize this is FLORIDA we're talking about, the state so collectively dumb that it got its own tag on fark.com from soooo many ridiculous stories coming out of it. (where some stories are labled 'scary' 'asinine' obvious' some are just labled "Florida" because only there could such ridiculous things happen) Your state is a punchline, probably why noone cares if 70,000 people wanted to see the Barbie doll VP candidate. She had her first world leader talk today though! Yay, good for yooou Ms. Palin (clap clap)
It appears that loriw has re-introduced the "Obama supports infanticide" meme back into the thread, again. Those who repeat this claim try to justify it by pointing to Obama's opposition to Illinois legislation that would have defined any aborted fetus that showed signs of life as a "born alive infant" entitled to legal protection, even if the doctors determined that the fetus had no chance of survival.
Obama opposed the "born alive" bills as backdoor attacks on a woman's legal right to abortion The bills sought to define the term "born-alive infant" as any fetus, even one expelled as the result of an abortion, that shows vital signs separate from its mother. The bill would have established that fetuses thus defined were humans with legal rights. It never made it to the floor; it was voted down by the Health and Human Services Committee, which Obama chaired.
Illinois law already provides that physicians must protect the life of a fetus when there is "a reasonable likelihood of sustained survival of the fetus outside the womb, with or without artificial support." Illinois compiled statute 720 ILCS 510/6 states that physicians performing abortions when the fetus is viable must use the procedure most likely to preserve the fetus' life; must be attended by another physician who can care for a born-alive infant; and must "exercise the same degree of professional skill, care and diligence to preserve the life and health of the child as would be required of a physician providing immediate medical care to a child born alive in the course of a pregnancy termination which was not an abortion." Failure to do any of the above is a felony.
By law a viable fetus will only be aborted if the life of the mother is at risk in later term pregnancy. In those very rare circumstances, Illinois compiled statute 720 ILCS 510/6 requires the physician to diligently care for the fetus as described above. The law was already on the books when the "born alive' bills were put forward.
All of this has been explained before, but that doesn't seem to stop loriw from proclaiming over and over again that Obama is "PRO-INFANTICIDE". With behavior not unlike that of a corrupted hard-drive that just can't accept new data, she responds each time to information that contradicts her story by "re-booting" and either:
1) regurgitating the same refuted claim later, and/or
2) spewing even more insightful and enlightening comments such as, "you are so full of SH!T.....the bill was voted on by the IL Senate and Obama was the only one who voted against it". That is of course, like the claim of Obama being "pro-infantacide" itself, just pure fantasy; if Obama had been "the only one who voted against" the "born alive" acts, then the measures would have passed despite his votes.
Why do we not hear much about Obams's pick for his VP, Biden? I heard from a reliable source that in '88 when Biden made his unsuccessful run for president, once the campaign was over, Biden refused to pay one of his campaign workers, and stiffed him for $150,000. This has been checked on snopes, and was proven to be true. Biden was/is rich, and could easily have paid his worker, but the man who was the campaign worker said Biden told him "The campaign is over, I don't owe you anything." Paying someone who worked for you is not dependant upon your winning or losing, its a legal contract, and should be honored. And this is the man some of you want as your vice president, who may end up being president if anything happened to Obama? Someone who is this dishonest? I would be concerned about what else he may be dishonest about, such as how he may handle his duties and who he may owe $$ to, which he may "borrow" from our funds to pay, or what else he may find to spend our $$ on, and then try to justify it with some drummed up excuse. Someone who refuses to honor his obligations will not get my vote.
Your comments about the electorate's fear of elitism is right on target. Why is "elite" suddenly bad? I think it would be nice to have as our President somebody who could speak eloquently and think intelligently. Palin might be a wonderful mom, a safer hunting companion than Dick Cheney, and every bit as friendly a drinking buddy as George Bush, but those are not qualifications for the White House.
Everyone is concerned with the VP knowing something about something. Have we forgotten that I country is designed so that one person does not make all the decisions that relate positively or negatively for our country. No we have a President, VP, many cabinet members (and each of their staffs) and 535 congressman who are suppose to look out for our best interest. The problem is that with our current system, and people, they are too caught up in building their own little empire and they have forgotten who they work for - YOU and ME!! I believe that it is going to take a Washington outsider to help steer our ship back on course. All government officials need to remember who they work for - and let me give them a hint - it is not themselves. Any time an entire Congress can get together and write a bill that says - oh by-the-way, if we don't get a chance to vote on that bill, it will automatically become law. They wanted their cake to eat it too. They were able to go back to their constituents and say, "I didn't vote for that raise". How stupid are we as Americans? We have let those who spend money on ads benefit themselves and many of Americans walk into a polling place, see a name on the ballot - oh yea, I have heard of him/her. We are so far removed from reality. It is going to take an outsider to correct the wrongs that have been done to each of us. Are you going to let the same people continue cheating you out of what is yours. This is your life...it is time YOU took control back. I don't care what level of government we are talking about...IT IS TIME TO TAKE BACK AMERICA!!! mrkellyp
Sam Harris is a neuroscientist, and clearly an extremely intelligent man. It would be wise to consider his opinions seriously. I see some people dismissing him quickly due to their political bias, and that's a shame. Republicans and Democrats alike should be concerned about Ms. Palin. This is a very important matter, and we should put our biases aside and think clearly about this. Sarah Palin is not qualified to be President. This is not my opinion, this is the simple truth.
Why are we so concerned politics? The real demise of our country will be the fact that we cannot move forward with any problems that arise because we are too worried about interpreting Palin's faith to see the big picture. We are in an econimic crisis that is unprecedented, not to mention an ongoing war in 2 countries! When will we stop worrying about how the voters view the other party, and start worrying about our nation?
The author of this article has read entirely too much into Palin's faith. Faith, religion, and all the theocracy that accompanies it is a fundamental part of our nation-flaw or not. The fact of the matter is that Palin's faith resonates in Americans because most of Americans are religious to some degree. The very core of American ideas centers around ordinary people doing extraordinary things...which we have seen times in history.
Thank you!! I'm so glad to read an article that so eloquently points out the obvious that so many people are over looking....as many say they're voting for Palin because she's a mom, and she's ordinary etc... She's a horrible mother! She left a special needs baby 3 days post partum to go back to work, and when the child was 4 months old she heads out on a campaign trail for 14 days, to come home to her pregnant eldest daughter holding her youngest and a modest crowd of 3,000 people. Perhaps someday she may have the compitence to be in office, but not now - not w/young children. She is a walking contradiction portraying herself as pro-life and telling the American public that she is supporting her daughter's "CHOICE" to keep her baby. She is exploiting her children and using them as props to portray a woman who can have it all, let's leave that to the old "Charlie" ads and let someone who can devote their time and energy to office. Perhaps she should take the next 15yrs using her passport and visiting some of the countries she's only read about and finish raising her family.
Excellent article, but it won't do any good. The people who need to read it will not, and even if they did (or could), they would not understand it. On the positive side, anyone who ever thought McCain puts country first has been proven wrong by this pick. It is clear now that he cares nothing for the United States and its fate. Palin is a sideshow for political gain, nothing more, and McCain has dishonored and disgraced his party and his country.
