What basis that people have to judge her intellectual qualifications. Isn't the definition for that relative to who you are? Being an intellect or have a mind that's broad enought o expand and consider multiple perspectives and angles with a need to pull in as much info as possible is not mutually exclusive to living in a small town, being a small town mayor, a governor, a woman, a wife, a church goer or a mother! The liberals are the biggest hyprocrits and closed minded bunch i have ever encountered. While some woman choose not to have 5 children, minimize the international travel, enjoy hunting, be a regular church goer, live in a small town an govern a far away state like alaska....that does not mean that a woman who went down this path is somehow less of a person..intellitually or worthy.

I was a moderate conservative before this election started and now i'm leanning to be a full blown republican after witnessing the closeminded liberal views on Palin in the last few weeks.

The belief in God does not disqualify someone to be an excellent leader. History is filled with great leaders who believed in God. The best presidents of our country believed and prayed to God, Lincoln, Washington, FDR. It is the left wing anti religion sentiment that stings americans who still hope for a better life after death. The liberal's stance on religion can be succintly summerized in "do and believe anything you want to, so long as its exactly what I believe. If not, then what you believe is wrong and you should be discredited for it."

Barack Obama went to church for 20++ years listening to HATE sermons directed at Americans by Jeremiah Wright. How can any supporter of Obama criticize Palin for her religious beliefs? Oh wait, thats right, Obamah was told he might not be given power and the presidency if he continued to defend his religoius leader and mentor for the greater part of his life. SO he did what liberal leaders do best, he lied to america and claims he never believed what he supported years and years. Right. Obama simply wants power and will say anything to get it. Even deny his own beliefs.

Why are we focusing on experience of the VP, when Obama has just as little. As for experience, look at Goerge Washingtons experience, or Lincolns expereince before they became presidents. They didn't have 'good' experience at executive powers. Washington led his men to a massacre during the French Indian war. Lincoln had been a senator, and had run a small law firm.

I agree with this discussion, that we should be exploring what each canditate beleives. How they think, what thier values are. We know what Palin believes, and McCain. What does Obama? What are his values today?

Mr. Harris' deep-seated and vitrolic prejudice toward the traditional faith of heartland America impairs his ability to render a sound, factual comparison of the relative leadership qualities of Sen. Obama and Ms. Palin. While the qualifications of each may be open to legitimate question, Ms. Palin has shown strength of will and decisiveness in three different executive positions of government, whereas Sen. Obama has not a scintilla of any such experience. And, Ms. Palin is not running for President.

This op-ed piece, an "ad womanem" attack on Palin ("Maybe she speaks in tongues!"), will do nothing to help the Obama-Biden campaign. Attacking Sarah Palin will only make people notice her more, feel sorry for her, and possibly vote for her and McCain. Saying she's ignorant and didn't have a passport until last year doesn't influence me. Look at W. (Yale B.A., Harvard M.B.A), Dick Cheney (Yale flunk-out), Don Rumsfeld (Princeton), Paul Wolfowitz, and Douglas Feith - plenty of elite education and/or passports to go around there, and look where it got us. Nope, the "she has no experience so will send us into war!" and anti-religion attitude in this article does not impress me.


The only person this article helps plenty is Sam Harris. Before reading this piece, sorry to say, I had never heard of him, then I "did a google" and found he's "famous" for being anti-religion. If McCain-Palin are elected, for the next four years, Harris can write op-eds in all sorts of newspapers/ magazines saying what a religious fanatic Palin is, thereby elevating his place in political discourse.

Obama-Biden supporters need to focus on the economy and Wall St. - the obvious week point. Ignore Palin.
Talk about Bailouts for Wall St. fat cats. Ignore Harris. He's obviously looking out for himself, and not helping to promote an Obama-Biden victory with this over-the-top piece.

I believe what Sam Harris is trying to say is not that she will be a bad leader because she believes in God, but that it is scary that she might give less-than-rational consideration to the many problems confronting our nation because of some notion that "God will lead the way," and all she has to do is blindly follow where God leads her. Obviously this is why she doesn't even question why SHE, of all people, was tapped for the VP spot. It must be God's divine will, right? Sorry, but I DO want an intelligent rational person as my president. They can be whatever religion they choose, but when it comes to making decisions I hope they put a little more earthly consideration into them, than simply believing that they can do no wrong because God Almighty is lighting their path. Does anyone else see the horror in having a leader that believes that? I'll disagree with Sam on one point - I believe Bush does believe that about himself to a certain extent. I believe his actions in the Middle East are directly influenced by his interpretation of the book of Revelations, and he sees himself as God's hand in everything he does. But that is neither here nor there.

I thought this was a good article. To her defenders, who seem to reject any notion that this woman would be anything other than a perfect, divine leader, I would ask you to look rationally (non-partisan-ly!) at her and what she really stands for. Where are her qualifications? How will she make decisions? The fact that we've slipped into a desire for a relatable "good ol' boy" type for president is not only scary and short-sighted, it is extremely ignorant. We are talking about the highest office in the nation, practically on earth, and you don't want someone intelligent? Wtf?

W and Clinton went to ivy league schools and we saw how wonderful of presidents they were. Find new material liberal media. She's running for vice president, while an under qualified Obama is running for PRESIDENT.

I think most on the right and a large proportion of those on the left would agree that Ronald Reagan was a very successfull president. Yet, which Ivy-League college did he graduate from? I can't hear you. There are many, many, many smart people in the world who did not graduate from an Ivy-League school and there many dumb people who actually graduated from an Ivy-League school. So I tend to look at accomplishments in assesing peoples abilities.

I hire people in a fortune 500 company and I use the same accomplisment rule. There are other colleagues of mine who always go for the Ivy-Leagues and end up disappointed more often than I.

Harris reported people who say,"I'm voting for her because she's a mom" How is that different than "I'm voting for Obama because he is black"?
Harris reported "things Palin thinks she knows but doesn't, like her conviction that the Biblical God consciously directs world events". At least he acknowledges that many hold to a belief in a personal and almighty God but on what does he base the statement (what she doesn't know... about God) and how does he know about God's involvement in the world. Sounds more like an opinion based on his presuppositions.
Harris reported "Bush...consulted a 'higher Father'...signs of incompetence". Is that his (Harris') test for incompetence or perhaps Harris is incapable of hearing God speak through the order of the universe, the Bible, or others with faith.
Seems that Harris only has an ax to grind and is so anxious to criticize that he forgets the inconsistencies and inexperience of Obama to be even partly objective.
